*Pauses from obsessively mashing F5* FINALLY!
Well, duh. Her name is Sunset, not Sunrise
And Velvet and Sunset's bonding was so adorable. Also how her sleep addled brain keeps reverting to ponyisms.
Kidding aside, blog posts is a good way to go about it to not clog your actual story with exposition. I like the way Voice in the Water did it when expanding the setting they're building in their stories.

*snickers* THat eager for an update? I'm honored. :P
Oh yes, believe me, the "Sunrise" joke will crop up eventually.
Honestly, I love writing the moments where sunset bonds with Twilight's family members. This scene with her and Velvet was so much fun to do, because here's Sunset, with her very limited experience with mothers--because Celestia really had no fucking clue what she was doing--and she just doesnt really know what to do about Velvet mothering the hell out of her. It also helps to further cement, in my mind, not only SUnset's personality in a lot of little ways as we see her interact with others outside her friends and Twilight, but to also define the minor characters as people in their own rights and not just cardboard cutouts and scenary. (There's upcoming interactions with Sunset and Cadence I'm excited for you guys to read as well.)
And yeah, I try hard to ride that line on exposition, giving background explanations where its important, but only as much as makes sense for the time, incorporating it into the larger narrative. But I also know that what I've done is a million times more in-depth than the story actually displays. (Seriously, I've worked out the broad strokes of Equestria's history back to like 10 million years, with detailed history for the last 10K-15K years. Got a timeline kicking around among my notes.) Its something where I'd be hesitant to dig into things that have yet to happen or come up, but that I'd love to ramble about after they appear in the published part of the story....Like the origins of the Elements, or things about the Sirens, or stuff like that. I just wanted to see how many of my readers wanted something like that.
weird question but you mentioned how the human brain doesn't fully mature till about mid 20s .hoever i figure thats for a normal brain how much do you figure with me as an example 3 month erliy brain hermitages mess up that maturing process . i know i have cerebral paisley because of it a yet as mild as it is i wonder how much that messed up my brain for example that fact that i dint learn multiplication till i was 17 .im asking because im turning 20 in a month and im wondering if my brain maturing could ever happen past this point again weird question but considering im a weird person not all that strange
So, the timeline is Fall midterm exams? When does Friendship games happen? After Christmas break?
I have this idea that Sunset is still sophomore, CHS has middle school levels and she enrolled as a Middle Schooler.

Honestly, thats a question I do not have the medical training to answer, friend. I know in my research on human psychology and behavior, that the human brain, just like the body, grows and matures over time, and that studies suggest that the process of maturation for the brain takes longer than the body, continuing to develop and settle itself until you are in your mid twenties. But that information is about a baseline brain in someone without any kind of complications. How something like what you have would affect your brain’s growth, I have no idea. It might be something to ask a doctor or psychologist, of you are curious. And no, i dont consider it a weird question, but instead an interesting one.

As I have noted before to numerous people, I will not be doing the Anon-A-Miss storyline because i found it to be a terrible storyline with poor characterization. The closest this story will get was sunset being on the receiving enD of bullying in the first part of the story.
And as for timeline, Fall Formal (basically Homecoming) happened in late September, early October. By the time the end of Rainbow rocks events occur, we are in mid December, right before winter break. In this case, CHS and CPA do their end of semester exams right before the break, in that last week of school. Hope this clears up any questions. :)

It did and sorry, i realize i already asked that question before so hence why i change it to the timeline question so i don't look too dumb . Lol you already answered so i apologize for asking again. On that note, do you think its more plausible that CHS caters to Middle School grade levels?

alright wasint actually expecting an answer more just it poped into my head and when something pops in my head i have to ask .thanks for the answer

So, what ive done with CHS is something you sometimes find in smaller or older school districts, where you have a “combined campus” for two schools. In this case, Canterlot High is actually two schools—a junior high (what we think of as a middle school nowadays) and a high school where the academic portions (classes) are separate wings, but they share elective facilities or common areas (Gym, cafeteria, sports fields, administrative offices, library.) its not done in newer schools but in someplaces where money was not as abundant or there just wasnt a population to justify the expenses, it happened. Since CHS is at least four decades old (if the friendship games happen every 4 years and theyve happened 10 times...thats 40 years) and seems to serve the suburbs and rural areas outside the city, it felt logical to do.
In answer to the author notes question, yes please.
Mmmm morning snuggles are the beeeest. I'm glad to see Velvet being a good mom, which is not an easy job don't let anyone tell you otherwise. As far as extra back ground, absolutely. I know in my own writing I researched details or added things I wanted people to point out or ask about because I was so proud of the effort I put in to make a better story and wanted to deepen the experience for those that follow along.
That is indeed some wise mother action here. I like how you gave precedence for Cadance only describing people via nickname through her never telling Velvet Luna's real name. Makes the fact that Luna has never heard Twilight's real name more natural.
As to the background information, definitely. I've seen it done in blogs via Voice in the Water, and in a separate story, as CvBrony did for a while, and both were quite enjoyable.
That was almost unbelievably adorable.
And, yea, Velvet, and all of the Sparkle household are good people. I'm glad Sunset's got them.
As for Sunset's past behavior, I agree. Hell, her behavior wasn't that bad compared to a lot of adults out there.
I know you mentioned how your not doing anon-a-miss story line, but I've got to ask if you're going to do forgotten friendship storyline?
Also great chapter, love the development for Sunset.

Velvet’s mothering habits are modeled after a mix of my own mother, and my editor/beta-reader/sounding board, who is also a mom, in order to flesh out the character we get hints of in FiM in only a handful of episodes.
I know I appreciate author’s attention to detail when I read, but I wasnt sure how much other people shared that sentiment. (For the record, i very much enjoyed your story, and hope you choose to do moooooore with that universe. Im huge about asking “and then what happened?” and your story jumped a looot of years between the last regular chapter and its epilogue, lol)

Human Cadence just strikes as the super informal type of person. She’s big on the internet as a niche celebrity, where nicknames and handles are a way of life, she works as a radio DJ, she went to college more to “find herself” than for a specific field of study, and shes this cheerful happy woman filled with a lot of energy and love. The idea of her using mostly nicknames for people she’s close to is an easy sell for me, and its one of the ways I use to denote her particular speech patterns compared to other characters, just like how VP Luna always uses exceptionally formal language when she’s wearing the vice principal hat, or how Rainbow Dash tends to be crude.
I dont think id do most of the world building as separate stories, but i do have plans for a lot of the side characters and events having their own short stories.

Yes, that bit of Sunset demanding snuggles may in fact have been born of my own grumbly nature when im half asleep. My spouse has been the victim of aggressive “no leave yet, five more minutes of snuggles,” on more than one occassion when i dont feel good. I figured super tired Sunset would not want to give up her nice Twilight shaped pillow.
The Sparkle household is made of pretty awesome folks. I try to have a variety of fairly realistic characters and families and such, because ive read way too many stories that make everyone “all or nothing” in one way or another. (Stories where everyone is gay or no one is or where everyone has shitty families or everyones family is awesome, or where just...theres this flat, unvaried, universal reaction to a thing in the story and thats...its just not realistic to me. Or as interesting as variation. So here the Sparkles are super awesome, and represent that healthy, supportive family. By contrast, Rarity’s parents are kinda lousy, and youll see further examples of various kinds of familial relations.

I have plans for both Wallflower and the memory stone but it will only superficially resemble the movie. I am not going to go into a lot of detail because i dont want to spoil anything, but yes, i have...plans. Dramatic plans.

Makes sense to me, that picture of Cadance I mean.
Regarding the concept of world building in a side story, I should probably mention that CvBrony's side story that had the world building in it was only tangentially a "story", it was formatted as chapters of "Twilight explains", so one was "how does ascension work", another was "what are the traits of the various pony mixed breeds," and so on. I only mentioned it cause it stuck out, it would only really work in certain formats, and with certain types of information.
Bless Twilight Velvet. She is very much so the motherly figure that Sunset has always needed, and I love that. And Luna finding out Sunset’s girlfriend is Twilight is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. Man, I can’t wait.
I’d also be super interested in some world-building/background lore for this story. From what you’ve given in the story so far, it’s clear that you’ve put a lot of time and effort into the lore and I’d honestly just love to see more of it.
10372710
Oh yes. Velvet is exactly the kind of mother figure that wayward unicorn girl needs.
And as for the big reveal, its going to be a hilarious moment, that will have to involve Cadence, Luna, Sunset, and Twilight all being in the same place at the same time, so imagine how THAT is gonna go on all sides.
10372107
its funny you bring that up cause i remember being in middle school in 7 and 8 grade and during 8 grade they told us we were going to be the last ever class because they were folding 7 and 8 into the high school .so for me its weird cause every time i see a 7 or 8 grader i know they went to the same building as the high school instead of there own building like i did .thank god im out of high school no more daily fights and teachers getting hurt and people vaping in the bathroom

I was a military brat, so we moved around a bunch in my early years. The very first elementary school I went to was Kindergarten, First, and Second grade only. Then they had a school that was Third and Fourth grades, and the "middle school"/"Junior high" was grades 5-7. The local high school was 8-12. It was a weird district. But it was a mostly rural area with some weird population breakdowns.
10378999
holy shit thats weird .elimentry was kindergarten to 6 then middle school was 7 to 8 and high school was 9 to 12 before my last year of middle school when they added 7 and 8 and made it a junior/high school
I love, love, love Twilight Velvet and Night Light in this story. I was ready to love Shining too, but I was expecting a good heart to heart between him and Sunset now that Cadance knows Sunset was the victim of the Carrie prank. I'm surprised nothing has come out of that (yet?).
Also, the family still doesn't even know what Sunset did for their daughter when they first met. I hope that will be revealed at some point and I'm very much looking forward to that scene if if happens.
