I know I always say something similar, but today's update was a breath of fresh air in particular, as I've been down with fever and intermittent headaches for the past few days, and today was the first day they both abated enough for me to stay online for an extended period of time.
You'll also have to forgive me if this post isn't as detailed as my previous ones for the aforementioned reasons. In short...
- Dayum that was some spicy dream Sunny!
- Interesting way of Sunset realizing the differences between both Twilights.
- Wonder if that last almost-but-not-quite plea for help was due to Twilight's lack of trust on Sunset, or her own lack of coping mechanisms.
Dash, that is Twiggles' special peach-girl, so don't get any ideas. She's spoken for, and you can't have any.
As usual, I love the inner turmoil that's going on in Sunset's head. Though, I'm a little concerned how much seperation anxiety she's suffering if she has a "wet-dream" about Twi from being apart for just a few days. Though, its good that she's sorted Princess Twilight from her Twilight, because that could have been awkward if she hadn't worked through it.

Geez--I hope you feel better soon! And I'm glad that you were feeling well enough to enjoy the chapter.
Yes, that was a very...uh...intense...dream for our little unicorn. *waggles brows*
When it comes to the two Twilights and their interactions with Sunset, i've always enjoyed the very interesting compare and contrast in personalities. Sunset was set up, very deliberately, in her first appearance as a foil to Princess Twilight, and I felt that was a big portion of the kitchen scene in and of itself...that Sunset and Princess Twilight made that connection of just how similar they were. And in this case, we have a Sunset who has spent days worth of time in the presence of the human Twilight, who, as everyone can see in actual canon, is markedly different than her pony counterpart, and very little time with Princess Twilight. Ergo, in this story, I realized that there would be more layers to Sunset's realization--that not only was Princess Twilight a completely different person than the girl she's familiar with, but that it was Sunset herself who was more like the Princess. Once that connection was made, the rest falls into place.
As for the source of that failed plea for help...I guess that's for you to decide. I'm more in the mind that it was a little bit of both, because both are within Princess Twilight's character. She has a hard time seeking help when she feels something is her job (the pilot, the crystal heart, lesson zero even, etc), but we also see her having a hard time with former adversaries and trusting them completely (Trixie, Discord, and so on), especially if something they did against her was...personal.

To be fair, I think Dash is more enamored with the motorcycle than with Sunset.
And...yes, it is a tad odd, isnt it, a dream like that for no particular reason?

Oh, I'm quite sure there is a reason.
I'm really glad you didn't go for the sexual tension love triangle thing, that gets awkward and given the way you portray Sunset in this would be hard to believe.
As far as ages go, I had a theory that *kinda* works. Since the ages are never given of the mane six we assume they are all young adults since they have jobs, run a business, go adulting. But Horses mature much faster than humans. An excellent example of this is the Cake twins. Look at how much they can do at a month old. Trust me, it's a win for a month old human to sleep for longer than 6 hours without crying for food or dirty diaper. So theoretically, Sunset COULD be only 17-19 years in actual age. The only part of this that doesn't work is if it true Princess Twilight would have looked like a 10-12 year old when she came over. And YAY for stupid little voice! The snark is strong with this one.

Straight up? I’m not a huge fan of love triangles, especially with fictional portrayals. Most of the time, “love triangles” arent triangles, its a couple where one of them has some creepy stalker who doesnt understand the basic rules of decency, and the rest of the time its one person being wishy washy and deceitful to two others because they cant fucking be honest with their partner(s). In the end, most of them are created/perpetuated solely for drama, and frankly, i find that to be a cheap and boring storytelling shortcut. So no, i had no intention of going the “love triangle” route. (Especially because, frankly, theres just nothing to go with anyways. I know a lot of people see that scene as “oh, there are feelings”, but...lets be honest...by that point in the story, their interaction has consisted of what amounts to a handful of hours over a three day period where they were enemies, and some awkward group interaction over what is most likely an 8-12 hour period. Theyve barely had time to get through their issues, and this is the first one on one interaction theyve really had since Sunset ate a rainbow. At best, i consider it a solid point for a future friendship. Speaking candidly, it takes a bit longer than that for a romance to develop, even with teenage hormones—and i speak from experience.)
As for the age thing, not a bad theory, but not the one im going with, mostly because we have a metric in the show that suggests while foals are more developed at birth (just like real equines because prey species) they dont age anywhere near as fast as horses. The CMC are introduced as children, and while they do show signs of some physical growth over the series, its slow and only noticeable in hindsight...while there are also distinct annual events that we see marked more than once, such as seasons, holidays like hearths warming and nightmare night, and so on, implying that there is a measurable amount of time passage in which the cmc grow very slowly.
Besides...theres actually an in universe reason for the distortion and discrepancy in this tale. One that i will eventually address.
