I might be an idiot but what exactly is going on.
Deer in the headlights much, Sunny Buns?
So close to the games. You're in deep now Sunset. Good luck!
well time for some inter-school inter-friendship drama llama's with Sunset vs. Twilight.
Nice reference to Men in Black. Quite fitting. Also enjoyed the little nod to why some readers/writers don't like adding in Elements. Because it's too easy. And not always done well.
I'm wondering if we'll finally get around to Sunset and Celestia having a talk. While we know that Celestia's been going crap since the Dazzlings, she's been harboring things about Sunset for AGES now. Here's hoping she'll finally get that off of her chest.
The school nominated Sunset for the team despite her prohibition on extracurricular activities... I guess they were like "yeah, buck that, we want Sunset. No, we need Sunset!"
Do Celestia and Luna honestly think Sunset intentionally coerced the student body into nominating her? (and I say intentionally, since her recent past actions could've had good unintended consequences.)
I want to think that, if Celestia and Luna dropped Sunset's detentions after the Battle of the Bands, they might drop her her prohibitions and restrictions entirely after the Friendship Games.
Stubborn fool, your friends love you, love yourself too.
Looks like most of the school was in on getting Sunset in. Can't blame them. They know how smart she is, and with her turn around who wouldn't want her on your side?
Sunset is going to be shocked about how this conversation is going to go. She is expecting them to think she twisted something. They, on the other hand, are probably going to be more worried about her, and if she can take this on top of everything else.
Lyra and Bon Bon were the stars of this chapter.
Since Sunset and Princess Twilight are on decent terms I'm slightly disappointed she has not considered more heavily having the alicorn help her with such unknowns regarding the elements. I understand it could be a sore spot, but one must consider all the possibilities. Sure, Twilight is often but at least she could ask. And Twilight can handle a little combustion. FWOOOSH!
Time with the administrators again. This should be interesting.

*chuckles* whatever works for you. I'm glad you're still enjoying it.

Horse in the headlights. *grins*
11632345
Its gonna get...interesting.
11632425
Oh, trust me, the drama is just beginning.
11632442
Yeah, I'm hesitant to stretch too far...however, I've actually accounted for that in the worldbuilding--the nature of the Elements, where they come from, how they work, etc....its actually fairly important to the plot, lol. But I can also see where it could easily be done poorly.
As for Principal Celestia...she's not...really harboring anything involving Sunset? She's got some struggles, but they're more about her own confidence and choices not some weird relationship with Sunset. Though she will be in the next chapter, haha.

The students had OPINIONS.
As for what the admins think, that will be addressed next chapter.
11633026
Easier said than done.
11633053
Its definitely going to be interesting.

So it doesnt come up because I don't address every possible conversation that goes on. This story would be three times longer than it already is if I did that, lol. She has been in talks with Princess Twilight, but Twi has a life, and is quite busy in Season 5. She does however, talk to Sunset via the journal, and Sunset has copies of all of her notes, which she's read several times over.

Basically:
They announced the people on the Games team..
Sunset was the last name on the list. She shouldnt have been because part of her punishment back in chapter 1 was being banned from all elected school positions, club positions, dance royalty, positions where she represented the school or student body, etc.
Celestia and Luna point this out.
The student council preempted it, and had gone around and collected a petition and notes from the bulk of the student body to show that it was the will of the students, not some game or accident, and they were petitioning the administration to allow Sunset to compete.
Sunset has realized she was voted in and is panicking. A little. (Okay, maybe a lot.)

ok so only good news

officially one of the head writers on EQG said Sunset's Element was "Empathy" so there's officially a seventh element. WTF happened to it over on the Equestrian side or if it existed before Sunset put on the crown we'll probably never know, but it's fun to theorize. I know in my stories they were made from the remnants of the Rainbow of Light, with the Seventh part, Trust/Empathy, disintegrated and cursed by Discord when he split it. The curse being it can never be reformed by someone from the universe in that universe. Sunset loopholes it by being extra-dimensional in EQG.
Also thanks for clearing up the reams of paper part. I was confused what happened as well. It has been a very long time since Chapter 1.
Hiya! Quick question, I've come across your story Cross the Rubicon, and why is it considered mature in FIMficton?
11634161
Hopefully. :P
11634367
The stack of paper will be more thoroughly explained next chapter. It was supposed to be a little vague.
And yeah, I know all about Empathy being Sunset's official Element designation. There's a long, convoluted explanation about the Elements, their origins, why Sunset has one that is seemingly missing in Equestria, etc, that I've already hinted at a few times (including in a side story), and it will come into play eventually, but the full explanation will not really settle in until part two of Rubicon.

I rated it Mature for several good reasons.
The first is that while the initial plot for Arc One is not particularly mature, Arc Two has villainy going on that delves into some unpleasant, and what I would consider mature subject matter.
The second is that the developing relationship between Sunset and human Twilight is an integral part of the story, and that includes physical intimacy. I did not want to have to dance around the material with a T rating.
Third, I take a very realistic approach to things like the human world and in particular how I look at things like mental health--with a great deal of the story from the perspective of either Sunset (who is dealing with a variety of issues, from abandonment to guilt to some depression at points) or human Twilight, who suffers not just from anxiety but other issues as well. As I do research as much as I can, or get assistance from others with familiarity to some of the struggles of the characters, I know that some of the topics I've touched on can be...a bit intense for some readers (and personal too, as a number of comments have shown), and I'm performing the traditional ritual of "Covering My Ass."
In summation, its not Mature for being a tawdry smut-fic. Its Mature because it delves into Mature themes in subjects that includes but is not limited to sex. Hope that answers your query! :}
11634547
Ah, gotcha.

Amusingly in mine Sunset ran away with the original Element of Magic in stone form and spent a few years trying to depetrify it. She failed. Nothing in Discord's curse stopped the other Elements from recreating the Element of Magic/Friendship however. Yes the Element reference book is filled with lies and was planted there by Celestia in the hopes Twilight would manage to recreate Magic/Friendship since Sunset stole its original vessel.

I mean, I was just saying how just shoving it into a story is why people don't accept that idea. If you build it up, doing different stories and evidence that it exists, then people are usually a lot more lax about it. Because that's the importance of anything when it comes to stories, build up maters.
And I was fairly certain this story was the one that had Celestia knowing what 'Little Sun' meant for Sunset? I seem to recall that being the case, but it was something that never really came up afterwards. We know that Celestia has some connection with Sunset here, but if this is the right story then Celestia has a history we aren't privy to yet and I'm curious as to what that is.
11634742
See, thats an interesting take on the subject. We do have implications that Sunset studied the Elements at one time, but we dont know what she learned or how much of it was truly useful. Only that she knew enough to build a plan around stealing the crown.
Having it tie into the Elements history and Discord is a fascinating idea and it sounds interesting to explore. (I wish writing left me time to read lol)
We have a little something planned with the Elements, but I cant really explain it yet because its…kind of a massive plot spoiler, haha. But its a bit of lore for Rubicon that I’m super proud of.
11635447
Fair. I’m just weird about it, i guess.
And yeah, theres some personal Principal Celestia history I’ve hinted at. It will come up more in the side story I have planned, and yes it involves the nickname “little sun”…
Though whether that has anything to truly do with Sunset, remains to be seen.
Time to go do some writing, lol.
