Yeah these Friendship Games are gonna take it up to 12. Good thing there's now a specific thing to prep for that everyone knows.
AHAHAHA! THE CHAT! THE LONG AWAITED CHAT! THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS! SO MUCH SHIT HAS BEEN SCRATCHED OFF MY BINGO CARDS!
First, I believe CPA are the Shadowbolts, not colts. Unless you changed that and I goofed.
Secondly, that was not nearly as painful for Sunset as I was expecting. I had not considered that Luna was going to give Celestia the rundown prior. But it was good that they are sharing and keeping each other up to date. Celestia needs to be there. She would never forgive herself if anything happened to the students while she was spinning wheels in her own head. That was one hell of a declaration of decree. Giving her and her friends protected free reign to do what is necessary, even breaking the law, to protect their peers. And, of course, another chance for Sunset to further amend for her past sins by saving lives instead of making them miserable.
The lightsaber incident... that could go soooooo many ways. Wonderful interlude.
Glad to see Luna’s thoughts and feeling’s about realizing how close she was to her own worlds Twilight. This version of Celestia and Sunset’s relationship always has me intrigued and I’m excited to see what happens, how it’s handled and Sunset’s feelings on it.
December will being a boring month with you 🫡
I think I know the answer to the question but I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see the end of this arch by the end of this year?
Since there’s only three or four updates left, I doubt it. Kind of Mind blowing how this is so in-depth it’s taken over a year to barely scratch the surface of the beginning of this arch’s climax, I commend you and your team for that.

I read this and assumed it was a group chat between the Bearers, lol. Also, I need a Bingo card!
Loved the shock on both Celly and Luna about Twi.
"Hey Princess, you're not my type but your human counterpart really gets me going. You don't mind if I tell her all about magic and the portal and the body doubles and stuff, right?"
Seeing Luna tear Cinch a new one was so satisfying.
Though it seems Luna was equally satisfied with Sunset's effect on the nurse.
Is it getting hot in here? 'Cause with Celestia taking the magic business more seriously, things are heating up.
Pretty sure there were tears Luna. Somehow those damn onion ninjas snuck in here too.
Big sister teasing privileges, they exist.

*continues cranking the dial up* Heh. Who says I'll stop at 12?

...Is that where my bingo cards went?
Share with the rest of the class, :P

I changed it because its the mascot thing. A 'shadowcolt' can be done as a horse with a decorative bit of drapery or just a dark colored horse. I'd be hard pressed to figure out what a "Shadowbolt" is without the connection to the pilot of FiM. Besides, having both schools have horse mascots sets the rivalry up as a "you cant have a horse, we have one", at least originally.
Luna was always going to inform the principal (her boss) of the details involving things like major discipline or emergency scenarios. She...kind of has to. In this case, it was even more imperative, and she's trying to do what she can to help her sister...and they both believe in taking care of the students under their aegis. So yeah, she prepped Celestia for the talk.
At the end of the day, Celestia, be she Princess or Principal, cares about those in her charge, and she would never truly stand aside and allow them to come to harm. The Princess might give Twilight and her friends a chance, but the instant she needs to, she steps in to get dirty. Like when she and Luna challenged the Everstorm so Twilight could repair the Crystal Heart, or when she tried to interfere with Chrysalis at the wedding. And the Principal version, in both Friendship Games and Legend of Everfree directly gets involved in trying to get students to safety and protect them from magical nonsense while the girls do their thing. She's a leader, a deft hand, and her symbol is the sun--a burning disk of fire and majesty. She faltered for a bit, but when reminded, she found that fire again and used it to follow her nature and follow her truest self. She cant cast magic herself, but she can give those who can as much support as possible, and take pains to give the children in her care as much protection as is available...and that's what she plans on doing.
Mm. Lightsaber incident. Both a callback to a line in an earlier chapter, but also part of the College story for Cady, Luna, and Shining.

Yeah, it took a bit to click, but the shocked realization was always planned, because she's only really met Shining's family like twice before this, lol. Both years prior and when she was in college, and she only saw Twilight the once. Besides, next to demonic singing fish-horses mind controlling the students and staff, the fact that her besties' baby sister is the duplicate of a magical pony princess is pretty tame.
Principal Celestia and Sunset have moved towards and I think fairly well settled into the relationship of a teenager with a trusted adult authority figure. She recognizes that the principal is doing her best to be fair, just, and honest, and that she is not the same as the alicorn who raised her. Any events triggering her emotionally and mentally are something Sunset realizes as being entirely on her own end, due to her unresolved baggage with the Princess.
And as for her relationship with Princess Celestia...well. Sunset is...starting to realize some things there. Things that are gonna get addressed soon.
I know, but I like to be able to focus on my family and myself during the holidays, since December is my birthday, Xmas, New Years, the Solstice, and my mom's last Winter Break at school, as she retires in June. And I want everyone else to focus on the people in their lives that matter, rather than staring fixedly at the screen waiting for me to post, haha.
This arc is not done, no and it has a lot more than 3 chapters left. There's probably another 15-20 chapters before the games, then the games themselves...which I'm not sure how long that will be.
I knew going in that this was going to be a long haul. Considering my version of the document is around 900k words, the fact that I've done this in just under five years is astounding. Consider the length of actual printed novels, which range between 50-120K words depending on genre and author, and how those often take 3-4 years each. I've done at least seven times the words in not much more time, plus editing and acquired a glorious piece of cover art. I'm actually pretty proud of myself and my team.

I should hand out bingo cards. Well, if I had any. Someone seems to have swiped them all.
Yup. Celestia's just like "...uh, whut?"
Believe me, that is Sunset's exact dilemma with telling the Princess version about the human version. "I'm absolutely into another version of you, and I want to do the horizontal monster mash with her--that's not going to make our friendship weird, is it? By the way, can I tell her state secrets about the fact that the portal exists and I'm really a horse?"
11739701
Luna was particularly happy to be able to do that. To be fair, this is a woman whose big hobby is livestreaming while playing FPS games, and I'm rather sure she has some creative insult capabilities under her belt that allow her to make boys on the internet cry.
*plays with Hell's thermostat.* I have no idea what you mean...

*drops onion bomb* NINJA! VANISH!

Sibling teasing privileges are real and time does not stop them. My youngest brother turned 30 this year, and we still give each other shit. He calls our mom, and she puts it on speaker and is like "Say hi to your sister!" and he's like "Hey fucker" to which I'm like "Sup, Asshole. Give up on the hairline yet and shave it, or are you going to go for the combover?" This then prompts a debate over whether or not I'm jealous of his goatee.
11739989
Indeed.

So first of all, Welcome to the story! We're so happy to have you with us and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it so far! Comments are much appreciated and loved by the whole team (all three of us, haha.) I'm glad you were willing to give our little story a chance--I suspect many people are put off by either the length or the fact that its rated M.
I suppose we don't think of it as bravery, but rather...writing the story we'd love to read, and digging into the kind of character development and deep dives that we normally reserve for Roleplaying and our own characters. So many of the characters in the story have these tantalizing glimpses we see in the show, but due to ratings and time constraints, they don't really get to explore them...so we often sat around asking the questions and trying to piece things together. My two partners and myself all find a deep fascination with a lot of different subjects, but human behavior, psychology, and even things like sociology, theology, cultural studies, gender studies are all points of interest and casual study, and to me, in particular, people are puzzles to be solved. The answers to everything a person says, does, or reacts exist, but its this complex four or five dimensional thing with a hundred different inputs contributing to it, and its a very satisfying type of mental exercise to search for the patterns.
That's what's going on with Sunset--we watched, studied, and dissected every scrap of material available about Sunset, and by extension, Princess Celestia, ponies in general, and even characters like Luna and Twilight. It allowed us to build a real world, a real culture, and reverse engineer "How Sunset got to where she's at in the first movie." It feels realistic because we treated her like a real person, with real traumas, real flaws, and real history. We wanted her, and everyone else, to feel like real people, not caricatures, not archetypes.
*hands over a box of tissues.* You....might need this for the rest of the story. Its mostly getting warmed up.
Its okay to come in late! We still enjoy comments and knowing that people are enjoying our story! Comment as much as you want! :}
11740037
*gives a blanket and a nice mug of hot cocoa* Yeah...sorry about the emotional punches. They're...kind of a thing here.
And the answer to "how long spent planning?" is "A long time." We had the first arc pretty well mapped after the first month or so, but its really a continuous process. The overall story is mapped out with the major story beats noted in a timeline, but we then outline each arc as I start work on it, and narrow in on the course of events that need to happen to progress the various plots and character stories. And that is further refined as I do the writing part, with each "event" being mapped out in detail before I write the chapter itself, and then the three of us going over it as I'm writing, as I post it in our development discord, making suggestions, tweaking dialogue, tying things into other events or making callbacks to other chapters, or leaving breadcrumbs for future events, and even occasionally debating word choice in a particular description.
Even the chapter titles are carefully calculated and decided upon.
11740048
So fucking WHOLESOME.
All of them.
This is the family dynamic I know many people would love to have. Its not perfect, but its a place of love and support. Plus Velvet's just decided she wants to keep Sunset. "This is ours now." And of course the girls are both adorable and somewhat oblivious.
11740315
Ah yes, Stupid Little Voice.
*chuckles*
11740394
Compassion does not mean being a doormat. Its a form of selflessness that is different from generosity...and in our world, there is a form of compassion that is considered the hardest: Mercy. Fluttershy's gift is working with animals, and she volunteers at an animal shelter.
Animal shelters are both wonderful and terrible places. On one hand, pets are saved and find new homes, new owners, new families that they might not have found otherwise. They're taken off the streets, fed, watered, have at least a fair amount of medical care to make sure they are healthy enough to be adopted...
But they are also the place that takes in the orphaned and unwanted, the abused and the lost. They take in victims of cruelty, of apathy, of neglect and violence. They are places overwhelmed by humanity's rejection of our most beloved companions, who have stepped out of the wild to walk our path with us. And sometimes, the only thing that can be given the worst cases is a swift and painless end. Human Fluttershy would be made aware of this, working there. She would see the darkness, and yet still be kind and giving, able offer love and comfort. If anyone would be able to see the pain behind someone's anger, it would be her...just as I feel like she is the one in the group who would be able to grant mercy to someone that could not be saved.
If anyone could see Sunset's hidden pain, it would be Fluttershy.
11741651
Right...
Now it'll be interesting to see how Sunset gives the rundown about the situation at CPA to her friends and how Principal Celestia has given them the authority to do what needs to be done, all while seeing if Sunset will come up with an excuse of why she was at CPA in the first place and dancing around the nugget of information that is her secret girlfriend.
