OH, FUCK! OH, FUCK! OH, FUCK!
SHE KNOWS!
Firstly I want to say that I love this story so much, I am very new here and just started reading a little while ago, glad to be fully caught up to the regular updates now! The creativity in the plot, how it has diverged away from the eqg canon is so incredible and inventive and I've been hooked, but what's really stood out to me this whole time especially has been the characterisation. Never have I connected quite so well with the characters in a story before, but you write them so... Human, haha. Complex and individual and flawed, and it's truly amazing. The relationships between them all are so refreshing too, just as complex and fascinating as the characters themselves, in such a natural way.
Secondly, and a bit of a silly point to make, but this is definitely the longest story I've ever read before, but not at all has any one word felt unnecessary. Like it's amazing, I've clung to every single word this whole time, your style and depth of writing are truly on another level.
Thirdly, I just love the way we get a glimpse into other characters' minds in the interlude chapters, all of them add so much interesting depth and perspective outside of Sunset and Twilight's point of views. I definitely have a bias, but I'm always so excited when I see Rarity's cutiemark under the chapter name, she's my favourite
With this chapter... Just wow, you've captured the way I see Rarity so well, and your author's note really hits the nail on the head of who she is as a character to me. I feel that her generosity is not just a giving of something superfluous, but rather her giving in the silent way that expects nothing in return, of bringing to others what they need in the way they need, regardless of what it may be or how it may 'cost' her (not necessarily the monetary sense). Your author's note is exactly how I feel about her haha.
Sorry for the somewhat long comment. I don't know commenting etiquette for this place, so I hope this was okay, and thank you for writing and continuing to update this wonderful story!
I just love this line and how much it both implies and says about their relationship.
Huh, Rarity not pestering her about Twilight?
Strange.
Oh my god, I can’t wait until Rarity decides to bring up the topic of Twilight’s fuss. Also, the hint at the Sunset/Rarity pairing interested me. Damn I wonder if there are fanfictions with these two?
Oh and of course the way you portray Rarity. Special respect, your note about her essence of generosity just goes straight to the heart. It actually reminds me a bit of Rarity from Fallout Equestria. I honestly don’t know why it was from there, but I feel like you both were able to catch this feature of the character
Well, after rereading the entire story, you can see the love for writing this, everything feels so good that I wish it would never end, just one doubt I have
Will there still be vacations on the beach?
Well, I guess that makes for three decent girls at CPA, Twilight, Indigo, and now Fleur. Fleur is a character who's... a bit of a near blank slate, really. I mean, one could assume the pony version is decent since she doesn't come off as too snobby, and she's with Fancy Pants who seems to be a decent and polite stallion in Sweet and Elite, so she can't be all that bad (unlike some... looking at you, Upper Crust). At the very least, this Fleur seems to have some sympathy for Sparky.
Rarity knows...
but, like a good friend, she has her priorities straight, and sees to it that Sunset gets some proper TLC before asking for details about Twilight.
Also, Rarity is the first of Sunset's friends to gaze upon Princess Celestia (through Sunset's memories of course)

Priorities. TLC for Sunset now, pestering about Twilight later
11883070
i half expected the chapter to end with Sunset leaving and Rarity going:
"Oh yes, before you go . . where did you go on that star gazing date?"
Interesting to see that Rarity has been added into the 'She knows' category alongside Dash about the Twilight Sparkle of their world. That juicy bit of gossip is going to be burning a hole in her soul until she's going to be able to talk about it, but I'm sure she'll hold confidence for at least... say, two more weeks? Or if she's going to tell anyone, it's going to be AJ.
And since you've given me the okay to share my theories, I'll do so here. In fact, this chapter here actually gives me a bit more evidence as to the theory I've been having for your story for a while now. So here's my major theory: Sunset here? She's the Sunset from the Human world, raised in Equestria. I don't call her human Sunset because... well, she's not. In fact, if my theory is correct, nor is Twilight and probably to a lesser extent the rest of the Humane 7.
Now while this is a bit of a fan theory that you might see for the actual show, for Rubicon here I feel like it fits for a number of reasons.
1. Sunset's an Orphan. While this is a popular idea and headcanon for Sunset in general, especially considering how much of the idea it adds to why she attached so heavily to Celestia, this just adds another pile to the things we've seen that makes me believe she's human.
2. How Magic works on Earth. So while we're still exploring how things work in story and don't have all the answers, we know a couple of things. Magic tends to be a bloodline thing, considering Trixie and the Fae's curse on the 'Solare Family'. Because of magic vanishing/drying up within the human world, most of that stuff is left dormant. Inactive. And magic, like nature, abhors a vacuum. The ley lines have been getting a steady stream of magic and that's making magic about Canterlot become active again... and that includes Bloodlines that couldn't be active before now having magic to draw on to be powerful again.
3. Sparky and Sunset's Bloodlines. Many thing in this story point to a hidden power within Sparky, not the least of which is the Big Bad wanting her for the power she has. Now while you could just write this off as her being Princess Twilight's Counterpart, I'm sure that's part of things here that the human versions of the girls have the same potential as their pony selves. But for Sparky, I think it's more than that. I think that with her family being mostly the 'rich snooty' kind of people that I could see them doing their best to keep the line pure, even if the reason for it no longer exists.
Sunset, on the other hand, if my theory is correct is... she was BORN a Succubus/Half Succubus. We've got no shortage of gods, fae, and other mythical creatures mating with humans in our own history and I've no doubt that this human world that has more than a kernel of truth to it. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised that most magical creatures became human after magic left the world, only to start regaining/returning to their old power once Equestria got involved in things.
4. Sunset's Emotions. This here is the kicker. I originally thought, before this chapter, that Sunset was human because she experienced emotion different from ponies. She's said so herself in previous chapters. She's HATED. She's been angry. She's felt emotions in ways that ponies haven't felt and purposely DON'T try to feel. She couldn't help herself because she was human. Now though, thanks to Rarity? I believe Succubi in this world feel emotion a great deal more strongly than others do.
The fact that not just the love that Sunset feels for Sparky... but the overwhelming, unbridled fury of how Princess Twilight ascended being that intense? I think it's all more than just how Sunset is. Emotions are both food and power for her kind, so having them go all out to the point even a human feels exhausted just experiencing it for a fraction is telling. Add in the fact that Sunset wasn't human when she hit the ground and the rest of her life experiences in Equestria?
Sunset was never a pony. Just someone raised as one.
But that's just a theory~
Sunset, maybe connect the dots a bit more in that unicorn brain of yours. You put a magical blockade in your brain. What are the chances that it's causing your problems?
Also, Rare's both on the prowl and a good friend. Glad Sunset has her.
I think poor Rarity is gonna pop with her new information. I wonder if its gonna be like on Friends with Joey and Rachel knowing about Monica and Chandler. Both Dash and Rarity knowing what's up but not being able to say anything, lol.
unrelated to the chapter however i’ve been wondering this for a while
is old ponish the pony adjacent to latin or some form of old english? since ponish and english are virtually the same in either world would that mean hypothetically if sunset spoke old ponish there are humans who could understand what she’s saying?
The analogy of the quilt is a good one. Many parts to make a whole. Brought together by others often by love and companionship. And as you said, made in such a way to allow Rarity's mind to interpret.
Hammer or Needle. That is probably the best line in the history of Rarjack. And I've read a few so yeah. Brilliant.
Why is her magic going red alert? At a guess, because when you are not being harmonious within yourself all you get is chaos.
Looks like Rarity is the second person to find out about Sci-Twi. Can't wait to see how AJ, Pinkie, and Fluttershy will react to this revelation.
11878070
There is not one planned at the moment, but we'll see.
11879046
You assume Twilight will be that lucky.
11879272
Lol. Yup. The clock is ticking down to trouble.
11882786
*ominous music*

We're so glad to hear you like the story and have caught up to current chapters! We're particularly proud of our work on characterization and making them feel like real people rather than flat cutouts, so to hear that that has really sucked in many of our readers is fantastic! :} That and the interpersonal relationships, because a good bit of who we are as people is how we interact with others.
Yeah....Its longer than I expected, but its been one of those where it NEEDED the length to tell the whole story in the right way. I suppose that is the benefit to people who have been reading it from the earlier days, and digesting a chapter a week--they havent had to try to work through most of a million words all at once. At the same time, I'm not a huge fan of pointless filler, hence why every chapter and interlude is written with "what is the purpose of the chapter" in mind. (I will freely admit that the style and depth is a result of 30 years of being a Roleplayer and a Dungeon Master/Storyteller. You get a feel for how to draw people in without getting purple or taking 20 minutes between posts.)
I see you have discovered the purpose of the Interludes. That's exactly what they're for: to provide you with a perspective and information that Sunset/Twilight do not have. Information important for the readers to know for one reason or another.
Rarity is one I enjoy writing for, though as I've said, a lot of her dialogue is attributed to my spouse, who can pull off a Rarity voice far too well for someone who looks like Conan's Librarian cousin. We take great pains in the writers room to make sure the characters feel like themselves...and it pays off.
Lastly, there are no real rules for commenting or etiquette here beyond "Please be polite and civil to me and to each other" (The standard "dont be an asshole" policy, really.) and "please dont be creepy about whatever fetish you wish I'd write, because I am not going to." Other than that, go nuts. Speculate, ramble, express opinions, what ever. We all enjoy reading what people have to say!
11882835
It was one of those lines that just...came to me. Ironically while I was rewatching LoE for some characterization points.
11882871
11883070
This is pretty accurate--she wants to, but she is aware Sunset is not in the appropriate mental state to discuss the matter, and she has no desire to make it worse.
11882951
Lol, it will be funny.
I'm sure there are? People like pairing Sunset up with everyone, which, hey, whatever floats their boat and doesnt sink mine. I dont tend to read them, but thats a matter of personal preference because I have a hard time believing any pairing that is "smash the dollies together screaming 'now KISS!'" I acknowledge that Rarity and Sunset COULD work, if something was done to either remove or fix the baggage of Sunset's villain days from them (its heavily implied that Rarity was publically humiliated by Sunset at the spring formal dance, and that Sunset viewed her as competition for her Top Spot in the hierarchy.)
Ah yes, Fallout Equestria. I've read it, and believe me when I say I made notes on that too. It was a lovely demonstration of how their flaws could be their undoing, which was, of course, part of the point of the story.
11882997
Writing and storytelling are my passion. If I was a pastel colored equine, I'd have a book and pen on my hip.
11883045
*passes over tissues and a nice mug of cocoa*
11883069
Yeah, Fleur is a bit of a blank slate, but again, I cant see Fancy Pants being entangled with a right bitch because he's so damned nice and genial but also clearly very smart and savvy.
And yes, Rarity is the first of the human cast to have seen Princess Celestia in any fashion.
11883135
Thats a very interesting and complex theory there. I guess we'll have to see how things shake out. I will say you've definitely picked up on and are thinking about what a lot of our clues could mean, which is great.
11883274
Sunset is overworked, overstressed, and not thinking clearly, sadly. She's suffering from "Overfull plate syndrome."
11883307
Rarity making high pitched noises and not able to speak.
11883397
An interesting Question, and one I can answer for Rubicon.
The answer is...not really, no.
Modern Ponish and English are an example of "convergent language evolution." English, if you look at it, is actually the offspring of about four to seven parent languages, including latin, old norse and germanic tongues, french, and a few others, that was then "raised to maturity" by yet more languages in different parts of the world. Rather than making up its own terms for things, English simply incorporated the original as part of the lexicon, often by mashing root pieces together. Half the reason its so hard to learn is because of this mismashed, patchwork nature. For every rule you invent to explain, theres a dozen exceptions, and thats not even getting into dialect and slang.
Modern Ponish has a similar origin in Rubicon. For close to 2000 years, the species of Equestria went through a pseudo apocalypse, between the Windigo and Discord. Cultures fragmented, were lost, and scattered. Groups were independant for hundreds of years, regardless of species. When Celestia and Luna stopped Discord and began helping bring the various scattered sentients (ponies and all the other species they could find), they had to develop a common tongue for them. Over the centuries of the reconstruction of Equestria, modern Ponish--which is really more the "common Tongue" of the world and the language of travel, trade, and diplomacy, was born, much like English, from dozens of different parent languages. Now. Whether some of those parent languages were from Earth....
THere are three tongues in Equestria that are a match for a language, past or present, on Earth. Modern Ponish is one. There are two others, both of which have fun origins. Heheh.
11883647
I was rather proud of the imagery with that. Hehe.
11883656
I'm sure it'll make the Games interesting.
11883135
but if this is the case how does principal celestia’s reaction to the nickename ‘little sun’ come into play? i imagine that there was either a human sunset or our sunset Was human sunset before being tossed into the portal to be protected; perhaps even leading back to that slight curve in her horn thats been mentioned
11884021
It's possible. As it is, we do know there's SOME connection between Celestia and Sunset, but out every thing that we've seen within the story thus far, it's something that's not been touched on for some time. We're talking like... 100+ chapters here. While I don't doubt that something like that might appear again when it's a tad more relevant and I even expect as much with the Friendship Games (Especially considering the Fae cursed Celestia and Luna's family) I'm also aware of the possibility that this might be a dropped or changed plot point as well considering Majadin has shown to be very good at weaving things together within their narrative and that particular nugget has been absent for far too long.
It strikes me as odd that the 'Little Sun' meaning for Celestia wouldn't come up again or there being any expansion of what's going on with that in such a long time. I feel at this point that we would have seen something else to it, but we've only had... a single chapter, I believe, where we even get to see things from Celestia's point of view, much less interact with her in a meaningful way. And that was her basically resolving not to be a victim to magic any longer.
thats a lot to unpack here.
couldnt hide her forever sunset, rarity found out
i love the 'hammer and needle' phrase rn
sunset stop pushing urself too much >:(
damn those memories were.. a lot
