What's going on in her head is a lot of dark magic trying to take hold.
I still find it amusing (and a little frustrating) that Twilight thinks her parents are the irrational ones.
Would it be too harsh to call her selfish for thinking Sunset should be showing attention to her rather than her parents (specifically her mom)?
I can only guess Cadance's story is about Luna, what with her being the grumpy type and the nerdiness of Star Wars and lightsabers.
Yeah, Cadence needs to keep her toys put away, lol. Or at least out of the reach of children.
"i am angry about academics and my parents have just been grievously emotionally wounded, i am clearly more hurt here."
hmm, no, i don't think so. oh dear (yes i know her behavior is almost certainly influenced by dark magic)
phew
she's also already had her big emotional beat down whereupon they reflect upon themself and find them wanting, you haven't gone through that yet twi... also yours is kinda, worse than hers. at least in canon, who knows how poorly it's going to go in this universe
that is 100% not how prejudice works.
poor twi.
ugh! her parents don't want her to sign an unread fae pact! how ridiculous.
you can do it twi, introspect past the magical mayhem
sunset: "wow i love my fantastic, lovely, smart, sciency girlfriend"
twilight: "ah, but you see, i have major self doubt issues, so i can't hear you. lalalalalala"
(note that this is in no way saying that that's an unreasonable issue to walk away with, she has several very valid reasons for doubting herself, no matter how incorrect or unnecessary they are.)
well, it's not fixed, but the day definitely got better. (and it's not going to be fixed for a while, she's still going to crystal prep after all.)
oh twily… there seems to be something dark hanging out in your head
Sunny, for the love of Faust. Go ask your friends for help and harmony blast the Sparkles. Just to be safe
It's interesting how the dark magic is playing/preying on Twilight's existing mental difficulties, making unclear how much of what happened is magically related rather than merely the mind of a teenager already dealing with an inability to read and act in normal social situations. What's really caught my attention is how... inconsistent the Crystal Prep influence is. It seems to lie dormant and act almost as whispers in the subconscious yet at times seems jarringly overt, causing an almost 180 degree shift in a target's personality even when they haven't shown signs of its effects as we saw with Shining. While Sunset has an advantage due to her race (and past dabblings), I'm wondering how long it will take the rest of the family to realize something is wrong; even if they don't think of magic- after all, everyone knows magic doesn't exist... right?
Daaaamn. I mean we all get ost in thought sometimes, but getting caught in the whirlwind that is the emotional rollercoaster that out think talking to the dog is the only logical way out... Girl, you got problems. At least she has a hell of a support network to keep her in reality.
Also, will be interesting to see Shining's perspective. If he has a "my eyes are now unclouded" moment.
Twiggles, there's a difference between wanting to be treated like and adult, and acting like one. One shows immaturity, one show's maturity. Guess which one is which?
I think Twi's also making a troubling conflation with Cinch and her parents when it comes to their feedback. What Cinch is doing (aside from being a unseelie witch) is telling her how to think, while her parents are trying to teach her how to think. Yes, the former is more straightforward, but it robs her of her agency, while the latter requires much more effort, but will make her a functional, intelligent adult that can make her own decisions through rational thought and consideration.
In any case, I don't think Twi and her cute, nerdy little brain are quite out of the woods yet. Especially since those woods are filled with prowies.
I really relate to this, it always seems I'm the only one not allowed to raise my voice in a discussion, my parents can shout as much as they want, at each other, or me, but the moment my voice gets a bit louder than normal in an argument and they're telling me to stop shouting and lower my tone. It's so frustrating!

Seems like it.
11205310
To be fair, Twilight, for all her intellect, IS still a teenager. Teenagers...they can get like that. Its why they're so frustrating to deal with. Twilight isn't immune to being a stupid selfish teen.
11205329
Heheh. And college roommates.
11205385
Wow. Don't usually get a long comment like this, haha. It was fun to read, all in all. :} Glad you seemed to enjoy the chapter!
11205405
*hissy shadow noises*
11205416
This made the whole team laugh. "NUKE IT. NUKE IT FROM ORBIT."
11205428
Interesting, isnt it? Its almost like Magic and Emotion influence each other...Hmmm...
And I promise, its not as random as it appears. There's a pattern to it.
11205702
*cackles* Don't worry. I have plans for Shining..
11205857
As always, my friend, you are particularly astute.
11205867
Mm. There's a sense of unfair double standards for some people, though in this case, Twilight is being more belligerent and ugly than she is assertive, and there is very much a difference between "assertion and confidence" and "Being a bitch." (As someone well versed in both, its one of those "its not what you do, but HOW you do it" things.
11206109
Yeah, something Sunset was kinda forced out of due to her circumstances. I mean, you become more mature and independent if you're trying to survive.
11206109
I actually think you've done a good job showing that its not that random at all, once you recognize the pattern. It seems to only 'flare up' in response to threats to Crystal Prep, Cinch, their reputation, and/or their goals/contracts. I was just commenting on how its dormant state is so subtle compared to how overt the magic's active state is. Yet it manages to stay under the radar of everyone who isn't a darkness-scarred magical unicorn by way of dredging up memories and thoughts in the victim's subconscious and bringing them to the forefront (no matter how buried they might be) and highlighting specific stimuli in the victim's environment rather than using a truly outside influence such as a whispered voice or the like; at least at this stage of the game.
I really hope we get to see how Shining is taking things. From what we know so far he doesn't have any preexisting psychological conditions like Twilight, yet he just got hit with a massive mental whammy turning him against those he'd normally protect above all else only to get slammed with the rebound of Sunset dispelling them magics (for now). He's helped Twilight in the past with her issues, but that might not necessarily be enough for when he's experiencing this himself. On the other hand, he could be grounded enough to recover soon now that he has some time to recenter himself.
Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!! why world, why must i now suffer with the rest.... curses to my fast reading and enjoyment.... curses that my question about will sunset tell Twilight and her family about the magic world she comes from, curses that the lovers have yet to come out yet, and curses to myself for catching up so soon.... darnit... now i must wait in the moonlights shadow till the next chapter arrives luring me back into the light of, wholesomeness, cruel drama, and a wonderful love story slash friendship...... and one more curse for you Majadin, a curse that your brain will be overfilled with words as you write out the next chapter....
hehe jokes aside, wonderful work Majadin, really got me hooked and binge reading this week, and both wish for the suspense to be over, but also knows how short the story would become without.... still dont mean i hate not being able to read more though XD
11206257
>:} I'm sure Sunset'll get there. Eventually.
11206299
...I never said it was Actually caused by the paper, now did i? >:} Only that Twilight assumed it was.
As for what's going on with their interest in Twilight, well...there's an explanation for that, one that I might've already dropped hints about in previous chapters. *cackles*
Sssssssshadowsssssss....
11206460
Sunset's age is also...messy. Given that there was temporal shenanigans, and passing through the portal shaved close to a decade off her physical age. She's lived a few more years than her girlfriend, for all her emotional maturity being closer at this point to her physical age.
11206721
Oh, I'm glad--sometimes I worry that I'm a bit TOO subtle sometimes.
As for Shining...well...We'll see.
11207147
I mean, most of the Chapter Titles are "not really as clever as I like to pretend" wordplay, or just straight up song titles/lyrics/quotes from literature or movies/etc. So...I suppose if it made you think of a song, then mission accomplished. :P
11207166
hmmm...I'll take that curse. I need more wordses. Yesssss...more wordses. *steeples claws*
As for the curse of having to wait...May I direct your attention in the meantime to the various side stories available?
11207597
i am so sorry for commenting so much Maja XD, but thanks for replying to all the different things i was writing while i binged this... and ya will be taking a look at your side stories to momentarily quench the thirst for the world you have created lol.
11208408
Please, don't apologize! I love reading comments! I makes me feel good to know people are enjoying the story and world we've built! :} And in case you didn't know, updates are weekly, on Thursday Night/Friday Morning.
I must say that I am uncomfortable with a parent intruding upon the privacy of their child. By no means do the Sparkles come off as strict. At the same time, I believe that teenagers are entitled to their own secure space, away from other people. If they find themselves agitated, and move exclude themselves from the agitation, it does them no good if the agitation comes to them. It's true that there are occasions where there is a pressing safety need, but I would only find it acceptable if there was physical danger.
