Are you teasing me with a potential Sunset/Princess Luna conversation where I'm going to break it down word by word to see if Luna read those letters from Tia?
I told you about playing with my emotions, you bloody tease!
The Pinkie comments and moments made me giggle tbh. I enjoy these types of chapters. I've always found the idea of Sunset interacting with the pony counterpart interesting along with her getting closer to Equestria. Princess Twilight always being gone is getting a bit sus though
Pinkie being Pinkie. Why do i get the feeling the Umbra's are involved in some way.
Well, Pinkie once again proves that she's paracausal to a level that I'm sure would scare even Discord.
Pinkies borrowing other Pinkies? ..I need a adult
Discord being related to Pinkie is both awesome and terrifying.
Luna would definitely be the go-to on all things nightmare and dreams if she is willing to field Sunset's questions. She may be hesitant being that she does not know Sunset, only that she was Celestia's former student and has a troubled past.
Well good we finally got this and yeah, beware

Majadin is an adult!
Another Pinkie gets to do what now?
Does Rubicon Pinkie know about the canon universe?!
Oh boy.
Love the hints of magical traditions that exist outside the standard "magus" paradigm with the Moondreamers Applejack mentioned.
I'm definitely on the same "can't wait for the Sunset/Luna conversation" train other readers are on, but I'm also curious what pony!Twilight has been doing with Luna so often that it's noticeable to outside observers.
I can certainly appreciate more ponies than just Twilight responding.
I'm curious as to if Luna could access Sunset's dreams even a dimension away. I mean, one could make the argument that as long as one is natively Equestrian (or a native pony, anyway), Luna should be able to access their dreams regardless of where they are, since Luna's duty is to protect and defend her subjects from nightmares, and Sunset (technically) is still her subject, albeit a self-imposed exile.
Yesss, give the Luna and Sunset interactions....

Pretty much this.

Yup. A lot of places put it on the menus as "chai tea." And given that the cultures responsible for it dont exist so much in Rubicon Equestria, Sunset was pretty much just glancing over at the menu board....since I highly doubt researching the complete history of teas and herbal infusions was on her to-do list in between 'control the school' and 'world conquest' and in the last six months she's been more focused on 'learn friendship' and 'be good girlfriend'. :P

Yes, she did screw up...but you aren't wrong about the perspective thing. From a certain point of view, it could appear to be abusive or at the very least, toxic. In Wallflower's case its a bit of "seeing what she was looking for."
And yes, Wallflower has done some pretty toxic things herself, in the same vein as some of what Sunset used to do, even if hers were for different reasons. Dark magic might be encouraging the negative traits of the students at CPA...but it doesn't necessarily mean the traits were manufactured by the magic, only exacerbated. On some deep level, Wallflower is spiteful and petty, which frankly is part of the canon character, given the whole "its not fair that I cant stop myself from erasing people's memories of me thus killing my social life, and yet Sunset gets to turn her social life around through hard work and dedication and no backsies or do-overs" thing that prompts her to use the stone to try and ruin Sunset's life. Here I'm just trying to construct a person around that spite and pettiness, and give her more depth and reason. Even if the reasons are "she's a petty teenager with issues because of emotional neglect by her parents."

I will neither confirm nor deny.

Sunset's relationship with Equestria is a very interesting piece of the character's psychology and her character journey. Its part of her history and the culture that shaped her identity as a person, and it is the world in which she was born. Its a part of her, and how she deals with it and interacts with the world and the denizens of it is important. Without moments like this, without showing her friendship with the Princess version of Twilight Sparkle, and even little interactions with Dragon Spike and moments like this where the other ponies do talk to her, even if its by letter, you miss some of the depth of the cultural differences that are much harder to showcase with only ONE member of that culture present.
As for Twi being away a lot, that's actually related to the eventual sidestory. In addition, you aren't being shown ALL her correspondence with the princess. Only relevant entries.

The Umbrum are not involved. In fact, they do not technically exist as they do in the comics in Rubicon. There's...something else going on in regards to Pony Sombra.

Discord has a healthy respect for WHATEVER THE FUCK Pinkie is.
This is where I laugh and say I've already given a hint to Pinkie's powers a few times now. They'll be the last to actually show up, but mostly because they have to be used...sparingly.

"I need an adult!"
*creepy voice* "I'm an adult..."
"...I need a different adult."
Quick. No one ever show Pinkie EEAAO.
11683249
Its a horrifying thought.
And yes, Luna is the one to go to about Dreams, isn't she? As for WHAT she knows about Sunset at present...well.
That will be explained in Supernova.
11683273
ok. I laughed so hard I cried, and then I had to show my spouse this. I wasn't expecting the nostalgia of a MMPR quote to apply to a chapter I posted this week.
11683346
Its a Pinkie thing. Pinkies know about all kinds of neat places!
...No. Bad Pinkie. Get back into the document file. Before I break out the squirt bottle.
You're no fun. They like me!
....No, they're terrified of the implications of you. Now go, or I'll turn on C-Span.

Yup. Theres actually a lot of stuff in our notes about how different species do magic in Rubicon Equestria, some of which have been mentioned, like Cervine Treeshapers. In point of fact, Rubicon Equestria actually only has three species that possess active spellcasters: Ponies (this is pretty much unicorns and unicorn sub-species), Abyssinians, and the Children of Inari. All the other species have their own magic and magical traditions, but its not the same as active spellcraft. Minotaur, for example, have an affinity for earth and stone, and are some of the best stonecarvers, architects, stonemasons, and builders in the world. They build sprawling, labyrinthian cities that descend deep into the bedrock and never get lost. They also have some impressive metallurgy, and can create enchanted metals that no other creatures can. The deer are masters of greenery, and can grow trees and shape them into structures--the Golden Oaks library was once the home of a Treeshaper who settled in the area of an early Ponyville and left his home on his deathbed to the town to be turned into their heart of knowledge.
Its actually my intention to do some blogs on different things like I had started doing before, and include some....entries on the other species in Equestria and their cultures.
As for what Luna and Twi have been doing, that will be revealed in Supernova, which takes place concurrently with Arc 2 of Rubicon.

Its one of those things that doesn't need to be said or stressed. Cadence has never really hidden that her bestie is an assistant principal, and what school exactly doesnt really come into her mind much. Yes, she knows now its the school Sunset goes too--that was put together during that first Cady interlude before the Rainbow Rocks stuff, but at this point the family is walking on eggshells with Twilight because she's had some very negative reactions about the school thing. And Twilight...honestly doesn't think to ask or dig more into it because she's still...not really with the idea of changing schools. So she's doing that thing where she avoids the subject.
11683995
An interesting theory, about Luna possibly being able to touch Sunset's dreams. Perhaps time will tell.
11684218
Patience, young padawan. :P

Based on the fact that Twi has expressed an interest in finding out why Sunset went all villain of the week on Equestria, I'm going to assume that they're hunting down info on Sunset, possibly through the letters if what you said is any indication. That or they're trying to find methods for magicless bipedals to defend against magic.
However, considering it's going to be shown in the sequal to the letter fic, my money's on the former.
Overall, my conclusion is that I will watch you very closely for hints on Supernova.
