I am HYPED for lore. Been waiting so long for it lol.
So, yea, the banter between Sunny and Sparky was seriously just so adorable, because I can totally see her using science to justify her chocolate habit (not that I blame her, I have one too).
Then we got heavy with the whole discussion of Sunset's mark, and the implications. The little end scene with muddy Sunny and tiny Philomena was delightful, and a bit sad, since it was one of her happy memories but her rememberenece was melancholy because she's questioning what she is yet again.
Yup, yup. Bring on the world building!
I'm glad and excited that we share similar logic conclusions about how their cutie marks are intrinsically tied to the soul. It was also interesting how the princess was quick to jump to Sunset's aid on a touchy subject.
Got her mark and didn't notice? No glow, no flash, hmmmm... the implications.

I try to work the lore in organically where it makes sense. Some people like reading thirty pages of expository text in the middle of a story, but most will get bored. By sprinkling it in here and there, I still get it out there, but without putting people to sleep. Still, these will be some lore heavy chapters, huehuehue….

I love writing the two of them bantering. I have it in my head that both of them can be witty and sarcastic, and that Twilight tells awful terrible nerd jokes that Sunset gets and most groans at. So when you get the two of them relaxed, they playfully poke and tease and joke around, because neither is worried about the other one “getting” the humor.
And yes, such bittersweet memories for Sunset…

I’m glad you’re enjoying it! And yes….i have…plans. Big plans…for the Games. Bruhaha.

For the Princess, it was a major socio-cultural faux pas, one of those things that ponies, by cultural osmosis, know not to do. But the girls are human and not diplomats, and they are innately curious about their pony friends. Sunset, as seen, doesnt yell at them when they commit those faux pas, because she has spent long enough in human society to recognize that they arent doing it out of malice, but because humans are just that way. Princess Twilight, on the other hoof, has only had a few short trips, most of them in high stress situations, and is still learning diplomacy.
As for the circumstances? Well, she was a pretty determined little filly, digging into a slurry of mud deeper than Celestia was tall, and she was so caked in the stuff that any flash wouldve been obscured. Couple that with her focus on Philomena and Celestia just being glad that Sunset didn’t drown in mud, and theres a good six to eight hour period where it couldve appeared that no one would have seen it happen. Not to mention, Sunset had powerful magic surges as a foal, so the magic surge of getting her mark would have been…little more than background noise to a foal prone to setting the room on fire.
I have a hunch there's more to her cutie mark resembling a cycle of death and rebirth with connection to phoenixes considering she saved one while the rest perished and she got it while she was saving them. I wonder how you going to play this card. And there's that song which she haven't sang here yet. Humans don't have 3 tribes, after all, to have an avatar of them all, but it doesn't means she can't became one for humanity.
Darn, I love long stories, but I hate to catch up. Now I have to wait for the next chapter!
I wonder, how knowledge that two most important ponies to Celestia end up falling to darkness and both had to get a rainbow to the face to get back to their senses impacts her?
Hmm, I'd never thought about cutie marks being something personal, although it does make sense. Poor Sunset, though, she must be having some very strange feelings. That entire discussion she had with the girls up until Princess Twilight cut them off had to have been very taxing, especially with the connection to the ying and yang symbolism.
And that little flashback was cute. So, I presume Sunset got her cutie mark when she was too "young", at least by regular standards? And she didn't even notice it. Interesting. All very thought inducing things that are being revealed to us. Unfortunately, I can't just press next chapter this time haha. But it's well worth the wait.
And I do agree that Rarity would be the most knowledgeable about these sorts of things. I don't know why, but it makes sense. She'd probably be the type to tell everyone that the Mercury is in retrograde and what that means for all of them based on their big three aatrological signs. I have a friend like that, it's actually quite interesting. They're very much into the sort of alternative "witchy" belief system, which I can appreciate. Always makes for good conversation and I get to learn new things.
Anyway, I'm excited for this lore stuff that's coming up!
