I'll gladly give her a hug
Sunny's inner turmoil is just heartbreaking. Very "The Last Unicorn"-esque.
Oh the push, pull, twist, and shout of raging hormones and betraying sexual thoughts. It really can be tough growing up. I really like and adore the concept of the friendship and mutual attraction and bond before moving to full intimacy aspect that you craft for pony culture. I agree that many, especially young, people jump in and are sooooo in loooove without really knowing the person they are fooling around with. Also, Sunny, trust begins with taking the first step. Trust your nerd.
oh ow, ow, ow...
ah geez...
fuuuuuuck, species dysphoria sucks, especially since the solution is "abandon everyone you know, jump across the mirror, and hope that they don't immediately throw you behind bars", which is super easy and super difficult at the same time
oh wait except the princess still hasn't responded to her messages, so there's likely something going down in equestria too, oh dear
oh thank fuck she admitted it immediately
ahhhhh
ah, yeah that's a special bonus "don't fuck up" added to the pile...
principal celestia's good at this
almost like she runs a school or something!
you can do it!
awwwww
ahh!
ahhhhh!
ah geez...
Ah
sigh... really making me long for that reunion, y'know? But I'll wait, I'm sure (and hoping) the payoff will be worth it.
She may not be the Princess, but the Principal has her own bouts of wisdom to give Sunset.

All the hugs for Sunny!

I really like digging into the idea that she is not human and she never really will be, as much as she's trying to fit in. Its meant to be disorienting and jarring and just really uncomfortable from her perspective, and the Last Unicorn is such a great example of that body-horror and species dysphoria.

We do a lot of behind the scenes world building about Equestria, and one of the things we really dug into was how their interpersonal relationships work, and what kinds of things are "culturally common" and how they view things like sex, romance, intimacy, family, and emotional attachments often feature in those discussions. One of my favorite things is the idea that, as my editor puts it, "being demisexual is more the norm," as compared to the human "nice boots, wanna F*ck?" attitude.

Dysphoria of any kind is a bitch, and I dig into both my own experiences and other people's to try and capture that "unsettled inside one's own skin" and just....feeling of being raw and exposed in weird ways, even when logic says that no one actually sees what you think they see.
Yes, special "don't fuck up" incentives.
Run a school? Perish the thought. No one learns anything at school.
*gentle pats* don't get too overwhelmed. Its only going to get more traumatizing.

I promise, it will be worth the wait. It will be the big climax to a side story that gives you all the more pieces to the puzzle and a close up of the Equestrian world building we've done. Just be patient. Got to get through the games first, lol.
Hrrngh, I'm liking the story, but every time Sunset's issues with Equestria are brought up I feel like strangling the consortium of princesses who, in any way, shape or form, thought that this was the best way to deal with her. Sunset is improving in spite of her banishment, not because of it. It's strange how none of them - even Cadance, who it feels like would have the biggest issue with this - have said or done anything. Maybe they just don't realise? It's either gross incompetence or actively malicious. Idk.

*chuckles* I can understand your feelings on that.
However, one point I would make is that you're seeing all of this from Sunset's Point of View, and, as we've seen with some things, she does make some assumptions based on that point of view. Particularly with things that happened when she was a child. With things like that, there is always the question of how much is based on her perceptions, versus how much is what actually occurred, or what she was unaware of.
Its something that will be addressed, once I get through the friendship games arc. We'll be doing a side story called "Supernova" that will focus on things in Equestria, and actually answer a lot of the "What actually happened with Sunset and Celestia?" questions.
All the same, I do hope you're enjoying the story! :}
