I get AJ was just teasing Sunset, but really, best not try and tell the native pony how equines should act and behave.
Sunset does bring up a good point about human propagation of flowers. For the most part, we propagate flowers to improve their form and beauty. Though, if you want to get technical, humans do eat flowers (sort of), they're just in the form of vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower.
The comparison of flower languages does bring a thought to mind: if a pony gifted their special somepony a bouquet of flowers like roses on Hearts and Hooves day, would it be like giving a human a box of chocolates?
Oof, Sunset trapping Trixie in her own ego was brilliant. I mean, human illusions are skillfully impressive, but real magic they ain't. Even pony Trixie mixed basic unicorn magic with skillful illusions.
With the magus certification, it almost seems like the equivalent of a mix between a academic degree or diploma and a gun license, in that it's not something mostly everyone has (unlike a driver's license), something they work towards, is needed as it's dangerous to use without proper training, and it's kept on at all times.
Why is Applejack of both Worlds the most reasonable one of the whole bunch?
You got played Lulamoon. At least she accepted defeat somewhat gracefully.
Once again, i apologize for the delay in responding. Life's a bitch right now.

I'm glad you're enjoying, lol.

Sunset is...hyper aware of her girlfriend being a bit...anxious and neurotic at times...but part of caring about someone is adapting to and taking their mental quirks into account, along with figuring out the healthy compromise of consideration/compassion with your own boundaries. Sunset's learned the first part, and Night/Velvet are trying to help her learn the second, but that takes time. (Took me years to figure out how to do that with my spouse, its not always easy!)

Nothing worth having is ever easy. Especially relationships. They take constant work, compromise, communication, and compassion, but the reality of a healthy relationship, be it friends, partners, family members, etc, that's a true treasure worth having because it makes a person stronger. Sunset is learning that...and she has already internalized the lesson that you have to be willing to forgive the little things. Besides, from her perspective, yeah, it stung, but Twilight getting snippy with her is....well...when you compare it to some of the things she's done, or some of the things done to her, its pretty low on the ratings scale.

Yes, could have been better, could have been way worse too.
11515320
Yes, she will, but girl has some trauma to deal with first.
No. Teenagers are not subtle. At all.

Appearances can be deceiving. Just because she doesn't dress like a Prom Queen doesn't mean she isn't capable of things. :P Wallflower judges a great deal on surface level things.
Maybe it does exist. Maybe it doesnt. I've never transformed physically into a raging she-demon, but I do have the ability to Rage-glare people into backing the fuck up. Hell, I once had a friend from high school who actually Hate-stared a hobo-creep in Baltimore into literally crossing the street to get the fuck away from her--and for the rest of the convention weekend if he saw her, he'd immediately stop trying to panhandle from con-goers to run the other way, cross the street, and be as far away as possible. And Ed, she was like 4'11, and as big around as your pinkie. So maybe its a monster, but maybe its just a ragey little unicorn girl. Who knows?
Oh waaaaaaaaaaaaaaait.
I know. >:}

Aristocrats are pretty similar whether on two legs or four, it seems. Even if the cultural nuance is different, the "i'm better than you" attitude can still happen.

It was mostly good natured ribbing, because if you've ever been around a horse that has decided you are its favorite human, they can be like 1200 lbs laborador retrievers. Horses are extremely emotionally sensitive animals, and Sunset, on a subconscious level, uses equine body language cues. I'd call her an unintentional horse-whisperer, but I'm not sure it counts when you're BORN A HORSE. :P
And yeah, while we humans can actually eat a number of flowers, we don't often unless they more resemble vegetables. For us, the floral side of horticulture is mostly ornamental and artistic. However, one of the things that we talked about with the subject was that Equestrian ponies clearly eat flowers--I always laughed at the Winter Wrap Up song line when AJ talks about what they're planting and its like three food items and then flowers... to humans it would be ornamental, but for the ponies, its all foodstuff. So we talked about the fact that such a thing would actually open an entire dimension to "flower language" because they might not distinguish too much between things like daisies or violets and something like the leafy bits of some vegetables, or even fruits or the flowers from agricultural plants, or bits from various herbs, not necessarily just flowers.
It was quite fun and exciting to work out, especially because I'm a huge fan of the indepth flower language stuff--not just "red roses for a partner" but complex messages, like "I would like to meet you at X time at Y location, will you be there?" or even entire love letters written in an arrangement of blossoms. For Equestrian ponies, in this story, Chocolates are the less meaningful gift. They're a sweet treat, but a complex arrangement of flowers conveys not just a potential message, but shows thought and consideration by the giver about the individual, their emotions, and what they would really like to express to them. (Kind of like picking out that perfect sappy mother's day card to make your mom cry happy tears--I know I'm not the only person to do that.) In a way, I suppose, flowers for ponies in Rubicon are more like...a type of visual poetry.
Yes, trapping Trixie with her own ego is pretty satisfying, but it was done in such a way that didn't humiliate the stage magician. She was allowed to back out gracefully, instead of being mocked. The Great and Powerful Trixie will remember that.
The way we designed it, Magus Certifications are somewhere a smidge higher than a high school diploma, but not really a degree, mixed with, like you said a firearm's license. They don't worry too much about a unicorn (or other spellcaster, like abyssinians or fox folk) casting some basic spells (levitation, basic shielding, light spells, purifying water, basic illusions, etc) or things associated with a pony's cutie mark--like rarity's gem-finding spell....but anything that falls under potentially dangerous or complex spellwork, or that will be used on others, or if you plan to teach any of the more complex magics, requires regulation in a society. Just like we regulate things like science, medicine, operation of heavy/dangerous equipment, and you don't just...trust someone without them proving their credentials.
There's even a higher level, as I believe Sunset mentioned: Archmagus Certifications. These are the Equestrian equivalent of your PHD studies. Ponies who dedicat themselves to a narrow field and become masters in it. They are the ones you see teaching the highest classes at CSGU, or advancing a field of magic to new heights, or writing books, or being consulted as experts in their field. They require a lot of dedication and effort, and they are expected after to give back to society in some meaningful way, even if its just consulting when needed. Its not just a fancy title, being an Archmagus. (To quote an old Warcraft guildy "You're an Archmage? Fantastic! What are your office hours?")

Because AJ is the most reasonable, down-to-earth, practical individual in the main cast.
11524030
She did. On both counts, lol.
I'm wondering how Sunset will react when she finds out Trixie actually has magic, even if she has little control over her teleports. Or is that bit from the Memory Stone special not canon to this universe? It'd give her a chance to analyze actual Earth magic without breaking established lore (Cranky did confirm sorcerers exist, after all). We'd just need to have someone willing to take Trixie at face value and not assume it's boastful hot air, which may take a while considering her personality.
Dark magic was trying to latch onto Twi again?? Yeah, I'd be seeing red too and burning up to do something about it.
So, the Harmonic magic forgave Sunset for abusing the power and welcomed her to learn and better understand. Since we know from canon the tree has a level of sentience it is not beyond the probability that it left a 'seed' behind in the human world to grow and spread. AJ and Rarity were not trying to hide that they are more than friends AT ALL. I can see AJ knowing about arrangements but outright saying she would give them to Rarity... I suppose they feel comfortable enough for Sunset to pick up on it. Honesty and all that.
Its okay. While I love weekly chapters, gotta deal with real life too. No need to apologize.
The delay's alright and I second Trixie having actual, if minorly malfunctioning magic. It'll give Sunset a good baseline.
