damn im sorry for your lose .if its any consolation at least you know what happened to him .helps with closure
Also very sorry to hear about your loving fireball. I can still name every cat I've ever had including the ones we had when I was a child. They are family and will not be forgotten.
I really liked this chapter. You can really feel the inner turmoil of Sunset being reluctant to be "burned" again with opening up to people and then a few breaths later she is ready to go find the other adults in her life to possibly comfort time. (I too feel Sunset's conflict on having to fight that little rage demon that wants out some times. It's one of the many reasons she is my favorite character in the series.)

It helps knowing that it was fairly quick. Until a few weeks ago he was completely fine (the second trip to the vet, the day before he passed, the vet did X-rays and Told me he thought it was a cancer in the lungs.) And his actual passing was very gentle. He just sort of relaxed in my spouse’s arms, and went to sleep.

Pets are family, just furry. We had him cremated and now his ashes sit next to those of the dog who taught him to be a housepet. (The cat didnt realize he was a cat—he was a small fluffy dog that meowed.)
I was pretty proud of this chapter. Sunsets temper is something that sticks out as fairly unique among ponies (only Starlight Glimmer comes close and its not the same kind of fury.) And shes reaching a point now where shes really starting to open up to the girls....expect to see more of that in the future.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love chapters like these where you not only insert some culture clash but also drop some bits of worldbuilding like this.
Also I can't help but picture the cliche'd "boiling teapot" regarding Sunset's temper.
And I'm sorry for your loss. I've lost pets too and know how hard it can be. My condolences.
Are we talking total, or this month?
Sunset always struck me as more of a spitfire than even the pony named that. With the way you described it, yea, it makes sense that Sunny's an outlier. My guess is that sort of anger and aggression is not considered appropriate for ponies because they're a herd / prey species. Such volatility could be considered a threat to the herd, so it'd probably be frowned on.
Glad the ground apes have something up on the pastel equines when it comes to dealing with emotions.

I love being able to dig into things like this, especially with a character like Sunset, caught between two worlds, two identities, and trying to reconcile that divide. And i also love getting to make the world come alive.
Less a teapot and more a volcano, really. Similar principle but much more explosive and volatile...

Eh. I imagine they have long since reinforced the garage lab’s structure. So maybe thats just for the year.
And yes, sunset’s a firecracker. Shes got this...intensity and a lot of passion, but passions can be good or bad, and when youre looking at a culture that has the not only its origins in prey herds, but also a social and cultural history that includes a belief that powerful negative feelings like anger and hate and jealous cause bad magic or attract monsters, someone like sunset who cant just turn off those “bad feelings” is going to be an outsider. And when the ponies she would have interacted with were primarily Canterlot aristocracy, and foals at a prestigious school (many of them aristo-bratlings) it would be worse.)
Humans are violent savages with a history of murdering each other over tiny disagreements. Sunset’s got nothing on us apes.
Even if this was over a month ago, sorry to hear about your cat. Always sucks. Sounds like he was quite a character.
I know I'm late but I'm sorry for your cat
