Princess of Friendship Twilight Sparkle presided over the case, and handed down a very lenient sentence of six months, after Rock and his father wrote letters begging for leniency, Rock claiming he'd been a victim of Stallionford's partying culture and that the cider made him do it.

In her response to the outrage, Princess Twilight Sparkle urged for calm, telling the crowds that the six-month sentence would be spent performing hard labor in her castle. She oddly kept emphasizing the word "hard."

Still, anyone thinking this is poor taste clearly hasn't been reading news article comments that DEFEND this scum sucker.

Is this chapter risque? Absolutely. Poor taste even for me? Hell no, I've done much worse, and certainly pales in comparison to commentary elsewhere. This is purely satire of the events.

Okay I get that this chapter is short and could have more jokes but to say this is bad taste or at rock bottom? You seriously need to rethink what you have been reading these past 165 chapters.

Jokes don't obviously would never hit the mark for everybody. Everyone has preferences. Letters will unlikely hit a low point as the story itself keeps adapting.

Here are some examples:

-Last Round Up: Poke fun at people overreacting to Derpy's voice

-EQG Movie Series: Lots of humor poking fun of to human cultures, the EQG music, and jabbing at Hasbro Merchandising

-Season 4: New letter style with the diary entries. Snippets were shorter and multiple instead of the original one long letter summary.

-Pinkie Pride: Had hidden weird al related easter eggs instead of the normal main stream media

-Hiatus Bonus Chapters: News Articles are a great laugh especially during Season 4 Hiatus.

-Even Extra Bonuses on some chapters that had more material with jokes: Bats!, Twilight's Kingdom and Amending Fences

So if you don't like this chapter? Wait for the Celestia damn next one!

Of COURSE this chapter was in poor taste. That's what MAKES these bonus chapters what they are. What's really in bad taste is that this situation even happened in the first place for it to be written about.
Waiting for the last letter before the mid-season break. Hope to get some decent bonus hiatus chapters from you, Miles, but DON'T hope for more situations like these to arise.

I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon of defending the author. Was this the best chapter he's ever put out? No, but with a story that's been going as long as this, you have to expect weak spots every now and again.

Was it in poor taste? I'd argue no. The "too soon" argument might have merit here, but with the way the "Foal Free Press" chapters are written, what did you expect? I know I may be in the minority here, but I think it's okay to joke about rape provided you do it the right way. Of course jokes that make the victim the punchline are never okay, but miles didn't do that. He obviously made the rapist into the butt of the joke. I don't want to get too political here, but I think the role of comedy is to take the power away from things that horrify us, and so some rape jokes are fine, because they give us a pass to laugh at things that would otherwise make us cry. (Sorry, I just can't stand the people that perpetuate the notion that ALL rape jokes contribute to rape culture. Let our comedians push boundaries and do their job.)

Anyway, this is the first comment I've made on this story, though I've been reading pretty much since I entered the fandom. Keep up the good work, miles. I always look forward to new chapters.
