I'm starting a miniseries here in my blog posts to talk about things that could cause a changeling's appearance. My first guess is Osteoporosis. If the changelings really are bug-like, then their chitin is something of a skeleton, meaning that Osteoporosis would be outwardly visible. Osteoporosis chances increase when you have a family history with it, and since Chrysalis might have it, most, if not all, of her drones would have it as well. Any successor Chrysalis has might have it as well,
