what do I say?
do I hate Text? there is no clear answer to that.
Text is cruel but Text is needed. when ever Text shows it face we the readers are in for a huge story shift.
Text must simple be David Silver from an alternate reality playing the Devil's advocate with himself.
Just kidding. I doubt that but it would be funny.
wouldnt that be learn any?
6227243 You found a typo!
6227488 yes i has!
does that mean i gets a reward? 030
6227709 Yes. You are now a hero. You also qualify for a hug from Silver. Warning, there are potential side effects.
6227729 Side effects always include Princely attachment and regrets for anything bad that will ever happen to you.
took a couple days but i have now read the whole story up to this point and now i must wait for updates...
6228016 Did you like the trip?
6228067 enough to keep reading, some parts made me want to stop, if i had read it as it was posted i would probably not have finished it, the whole he was a mare portion didn't spark my fancy. Through most of the story even up to this point I truly think his mid has either been drastically altered or completely broken to pieces by the Text, Celestia, or Luna, to make him so complacent with what has happened to him. The characters are mostly well thought out, though some of them seem to have been added on a whim (Celene, First, the human women he met at the library, and others) they appear, are given back stories and look like they will be in it for the long run when suddenly "poof" they are gone. Don't take this as me insulting you or the story (I would not have gotten so far if i didn't enjoy the ride.) I like the mystery behind "The Text," the manipulations of the Sisters seem very likely with their cannon counterparts. Though some parts just lump into the screen, with no marking and make me stop to figure out what happened (the assassin cats appearance, the poisoning scene, etc.)
And now I'm rambling, good story keep up the good work etc. etc.
6228198 Celene is a character I will never forget. She was quite important to Silver, and her passing hurt him even worse than Aila's, though Aila is more recent and sore.
6228208 I didn't mean to imply they were unimportant or pointless, just that they seemed closer to throwaway characters, they serve their purpose then are tossed away and rarely talked about. (Celene to get him to open up more, Aila to show his the consequences of his actions). Though after Celene I was surprised he even put his trust in Luna seeing as she knowingly made a false promise about having her until he died. I liked Aila though she had the perfect personality, but his actions felt a little to close to rape, using his position over her to press-gang her her into bed. (even if she chose him in the end, it still didn't feel right.)
6228235 You have a lot of company there, in the rape thing. Silver's ultimate failing was resorting to magic revenge against the cats, and that killed the question in its bed.
6228244 actually allot of the things he has done recently has been rapey, like the pirates (Let me knock you up or i will turn you over to the authorities for a slow public death...). also why is he not a little more concerned about the Turkeys i mean it is understandible with Horses, ponies, cats even griffins but he has almost assuredly eaten turkey in his life meaning he is talking to something he knows is tasty, the deer in the comics would get be Vinson taste in tacos and burgers.....
6228306 I'm not sure what you mean by the turkey comment. In theory horses are tasty too, and I'm told cats are also edible. Most animals can be devoured. Silver was an opportunistic eater as a human and remains so. He eats what is put before him and enjoys it. Trying to eat something capable of asking him not to do so would be... kind of awful. He can do without turkey, especially of the talking variety.
6228395 i mean i doubt in his past life he ate horse or cat so he would have no real reason to look at them hungrily for something other then sex, but with turkeys he probably would see a Thanksgiving dinner or a sandwich or something, just cause they can talk now doesn't mean he won't compare them to his old life.
6228406 All the turkeys he ate didn't have feathers, or a head, or legs. It's not -that- hard to put some mental space in there between processed and ready to go turkey meat and an actual living and breathing creature.
I'm not sure I could kill a RL turkey to make food out of.
Gobble.
Man, the Text is being a pretty big douche right now. We thought it moved on? Does Oman have anything to do with this?
Keep going! ;)
He is "renowned" throughout the world.
There are two spaces between "his" and "balls."
That should be "our time together."
There needs to be a closing quotation mark at the end of this sentence.
Tears streamed "down" her face.
There needs to be a space between "away," and "only."
He sank to "the" floor of the void.
6232939 Typos abandoned in the void.
So after a long absence, Silver comes face-to-text with the Text again. Again, this undefined entity highlights that Silver is at a crossroads in his life, this time asking that most ambiguous of questions "are you happy?" I've honestly come to think of that question as a trap, since even if we have the self-awareness to answer that question honestly, there's no guarantee that attaining that state will mean that it can be easily retained going forward.
In this case, the Text seems to be questioning whether or not Silver has gained enough women in his life to feel complete. This is a very germane question to ask, as Silver has always defined himself by how other people view him, rather than how he views himself. More specifically, he's prone to drowning himself in warm and willing females - emotionally, rather than sexually - to buoy his sense of self. My sense is that the Text is taunting him this time around, slyly asking "how's that working out for you?"
While Silver seems to understand the nature of the question, and even gives the supposedly-correct answer ("it's the quality of the women in my life that I enjoy, not the quantity of them"), his answer rings hollow. That is to say, it honestly seems like he knows what answer is expected, but doesn't fully grasp its meaning. He goes on about having "enough" mares in his life (even as he complains about missing his original wives) but there's nothing about what lessons he's learned in that regard; just more guilt and recrimination.
To give credit where it's due, the seeds of real personal growth are there. He does refuse to keep torturing himself over Aila's death, for example. But for him to have made so little progress on the most elemental lesson - that he has self-worth - is disheartening. He doesn't seem to have connected the dots regarding why he feels so compelled to seek out love, that he wants to have self-affirmation bestowed upon him, and that that ultimately can't come from anypony else. He can have all the sex he wants, but if he doesn't feel deserving of all that he has, then it's never going to be anything more than a distraction.
Again, he is making progress in that regard...or at least, he's making strides in realizing that his current course not only isn't going to give him what he wants the most, but is ultimately hurting those that are closest to him. Night Watch said that Silver has gotten "bigger" than her. While she's normally possessed of penetrating insight, she's ultimately wrong on this one: Silver is clothing himself in the trappings of being bigger in hopes that he'll eventually come to believe it. In this, I suspect that he's going to be disappointed; as his recent breakdown goes, he's still paying more heed to his father calling him "Dave the Destroyer" than he is to the good things that his various wives and concubines have to say about him.
Perhaps that, more than anything else, is why the story can't seem to keep its political focus, and seems to be tiring of its constant sexual antics: these developments reflect Silver's state of mind. After all, he's been trying to fulfill himself by inflating his sense of masculine pride, but that's no longer adequately serving his purposes. Likewise, his lack of political appetite - that is, his ambivalence to actually engaging with political issues and building his own portfolio, and reputation, rather than having those develop on their own - could also be attributed to his lack of self-confidence. You don't throw yourself at big issues unless you believe that you can handle them, after all.
Ultimately, this is the Text dropping in to nudge Silver along and let him know that he's mistaking the means for the end, and that it's leading him astray. I don't know if that vision of Night Watch outing Luna's scheme, as well as her leaving him, were real, but that's less important than the fact that they might (or even probably) will become real if he doesn't get his act together.
Because he doesn't have all the time in the world, and even if he did, most of his paramours don't. If he can't learn to love himself, then their love for him will ultimately end in tragedy.
6233165 Well, there's always Celestia for unaging snuggle time, but it's always easier to face the external demons and put off the internal ones. Silver is still faced with pressing needs around him that he is likely to focus on long before he turns any serious amount of time inwards.
Someone needs to gently set the stallion in front of a psychiatrist and lock a hoof to the sofa. It's for his own good, eh?
6228726 Or she? I'm starting to have suspicions who Text is, If I'm right after 1500 years on the ethereal plane I'd be bored too.
6942159 the Text is the Text. As of yet they haven't identified toward a particular gender.
That seems like an awful lot of situational awareness for a figment of Text's imagination...
Which could make for an exceptionally cruel twist...
