With a bit of blushing on Silver's part, I'd wager.
I found this leaning on the fourth wall...Is it yours?
Does any pony in this cult even get that the only thing keeping any of them alive is the fact that Silver's family is humoring her campaign to prove he's a not-evil-good-pony? And Nef's officially stepped in and put in notice that she will only go so far to humor Silver Stars. Always liked Nefertri. Nef be like, "Yeah, I'm evil. So?"
Huh, I don't recall the horn blocker being removed...
So Nefertari is watching as well, it seems the sides are evening out as far as strategic positioning is concerned. It's stating to feel like a business trip...
Keep going! ;)
Hey bad time and all but I don't think we've seen silver's parents in a while.
6651991 Rough Draft and Trixie? It would be awkward for them right now.
Knew Nef would make an appearance. Naturally she's yet to act while gathering info about Silver's kid. Clever. Is she omnipresent, or perhaps just semi-omnipresent.
"Middle-aged" has a hyphen.
There's also a hyphen in "self-improver."
Hyphenate "middle-aged" and "barely-adult."
A "sexually-attractive" female.
Capitalize the "F" in "Father" there, as it's being used as a proper name.
That should probably be, "What is this? An x-ray?"
6965940 You made me re-read this chapter, you fiend! I rather liked it. The personalities on display were a treat to retread.
What the hell, Nefertari? You show up to defend your people's honor, but nothing else? I get that as an Anubian warrior she has a very different sense of ethics, but I'd at least think that she'd have saved Silver's foal by now, since I can't imagine her signing off on taking infants hostage. Beyond that, I can see her not lifting a claw to help Silver - she clearly believes in the creed of "the strong do what they like, and the weak suffer what they must" - and so it would make sense that she isn't going to step in if Silver won't stand up for herself, but at some point she should go searching for the missing colt, and let Silver know if/when she's found them.
So this is twice that a rescuer has appeared and then walked away; as though letting these terrorists have two hostages instead of one was somehow an improvement.
Beyond that, I really feel like Silver is drawing an artificial line in deciding that Samantha is "amoral but not evil." If this were an alignment discussion, then there's certainly room to talk about the difference between being neutral or evil. But this isn't the case here. Unless there's evidence to suggest that Samantha is somehow mentally-incompetent, then there's no excusing what she's done. Barring some sort of extreme circumstances in how she's been raised up until now, she's made the choice to pursue her research without regard to moral concerns, and so she can be held responsible for violating those concerns. That she's performing medical torture dispassionately instead of doing so to manifest a hatred is not an excuse, nor is it any better (in fact, one could make an argument that it's worse). She is a collaborator with these evil ponies, which makes her evil as well; she is not a sympathetic character.
I'm still hoping that she gets her just deserts soon.
6965954 The characters were very true to themselves here, from Silver's dogged optimism to Nefertari's tunnel-vision where honor is concerned to Samantha's amoral focus on research.
EDIT: Though now that I think about it, it was slightly weird how Silver decided that Samantha was an enemy in the beginning of this chapter, and then ended it with thoughts about how she "wasn't really evil."
6965960 Goodness, you certainly are ready to see justice brought fully to bare. Patience, my faithful reader. Everyone gets what they deserve in my stories, usually... Sometimes.
Well, there's always a resolution. People aren't always happy with them. It's much like the real world.
