Somehow i imagined Twilight would give spike something like this ^^
- "The Nastinomicon! Wow, I've been wanting to summon a shogoth since I was little filly, how'd you know?"
And I've enjoyed the holy hell out of reading it, thanks for asking.
Oh Shei, what have you done?!?
And then everypony forgot the foals that miraculously slept in.... ;p
Keep going! ;)
darn this is a super good chapter and it reminded me for what the true meaning of Hearth's Warming Day is thank you DS.
There are two spaces between "streak" and "of."
There's no need to capitalize "violet" or "black."
Shouldn't that be "quite similar to Twilight's"?
6572993 All fixed!
6573165 This was...kind of a sappy chapter, in all honesty. While I suspect that the entire gang is starting to get used to the sheer fluidity with which their relationships fluctuate, I still can't help but feel that the issue with Fast returning was resolved too quickly and easily. The entire focus was on how bad Fast felt; that's all well and good, but was no one else hurt by her actions? The entire thing felt like it was too quickly resolved with a hug.
After that, we got a spate of gift-giving, and while that was nice it was also, for the most part, incidental. I say "for the most part" because the scene with Nefertari was rather surprising for how she reacted. We virtually never see her caught off-guard, so having her appear abashed at getting a gift, and being welcomed so warmly, seemed to come out of nowhere. That said, I thought it was uncharacteristic of her to let Silver's "you're not my wife" bit slip by her, since it seemed like she refused to accept anything less than being considered one of his (now her) mates proper.
Beyond that, there really isn't that much to go on about. Silver's gifts were nice, though I thought perhaps a touch too showy (a bejeweled sword? Wow, that's...ornamental). I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the return of Humanway, though. The problem with that is that chapters of the characters playing a game is just that; they play a game together, which means that we, the audience, are left watching (or rather, reading about) them playing a game, which is boring when you can't be a participant. Hopefully the game will happen off-screen.
Overall, this was a nice enough chapter, but seemed like decoration rather than substance.
6573467 A holiday-themed episode that turns sappy? Say it ain't so! That was the target, and I thought it struck it quite solidly. Night and Fast and Silver all have issues that need more work, but the ability to turn to love and friendship is one of the stronger themes of the source material. This doesn't banish their issues, but it can be paused a moment at least to enjoy a holiday together and remind one another just how wildly in love with one another they are.
I think they're all better off for the moment. It also felt nice to write, and it was nice to write how they loved instead of just saying they had these emotions. Both given and received, every gift was a little emotional exchange that I thought worked well.
I don't plan to describe people playing Ponyfinder, er, I mean Humanway, unless it becomes plot central.
I could do that.
Easily.
Not sure why the instant disdain on it being mentioned though? Silver's ponysona made it, and Silver made his own RPG. It coming up is hardly a stretch.
6573495 I wasn't saying I had a problem with it being brought up, I was saying that I was worried that this was a harbinger that it would become the focus for a chapter or two.
David be like, "Damn, let me hype my books man."
In this chapter, Silver gives Nefertari a pearl necklace, and Rough Draft reminds us that Chekhov says bang.
I just feel I should say, for the record, that longswords are terrible weapons for ponies. The dynamics and range of motion are all wrong, unless they adopt a bipedal stance.
Gripped in the mouth, they won't be able to cut properly-- they may be able to get enough force, but they'll have basically only one angle they can cut from, and they won't really be able to get the cross-guard in front until the swing has nearly connected, which will leave them basically unprotected.
Gripped in only one hoof, with three hooves on the ground, they can (presumably) get a lot more range of motion. I'm assuming they've got at least as much flexibility as a human at the wrist. Unfortunately, they're low to the ground this way, and the blade is quite long, which still limits their range of motion a lot more than a human with a one-handed grip. This option is at least feasible, but they'd be much better off with something shorter, enough that they can strike from underneath. Or if they really want the reach, something like a spear or lance, with more room to grip and hold it firm.
The bipedal option is kinda plausible, I suppose, but really awkward. Ponies just aren't built for it.
So Night, Twilight, and Fast are here. We even got Rough, Shei, and Nefertari. Hell, we even remembered the previously-forgotten Fiddah.
It still feels like we're forgetting something.
Hmmmm...
I wonder what it could be.
It's like it's just at the bottom of my thoughts and just needs to be rung out... Gah! It'll come to me eventually.
Night still has the artifacts, right? Do the others have theirs?
