Rut roh, Silvers is trouble. Now where is the scooby doo emote.
I really wish I knew what game Celestia was playing here, this series is still making me paranoid as to her moral compass. Also Silver really needs to start thinking about the warning that the text gave him at the end of the last story, I can't help but feel it was pointing at this series of events leading to him mating with Celestia.
Thanks for the bonus chapter.
6076349 My muse cannot be contained!
Sometimes I feel like you are an evil DM who enjoys torturing your players and they are not allowed to quit... ever.
6076381 That is not an unfair summary.
6076344
I am having trouble finding said warning, or the whole final talk with the Text. Did it get wiped out through retconjuration? The Text is powerful indeed! Or I just suck at finding things.
I'm glad Alia called him on his rape, and looks like Shei is going to back her up on that. IMO, he should have enjoyed Shei's advances, let Alia remain a virgin and seek her own love in time, and sought Night Watch's forgiveness for the relatively simple matter of taking a much needed marefriend while he had insufficient support from Celestia in the foreign land. My guess would be Shei ultimately ending up as part of the herd, while Alia eventually finds her own stallion.
Whether this ends up better or not, he definitely didn't get there by doing right.
(To clarify: that doesn't mean it's bad writing. I'm loving the story, and this bit of conflict just adds to that. My own main protagonist does plenty of wrong things, for better and worse.)
6076410 Silver's a bit of a doof at times. He didn't mean to, but that just feels worse in this situation. How do you 'accidentally' a rape anyway? He manages it.
6076410
Not sure where it is, or maybe my mind is playing tricks on me... If I am remembering correctly the text said it didn't like the path silver was taking and was getting bored of it, the warning was either ease back on the clop or become nothing more than a jiggalo...
6076472
I distinctly remember the scene as well, I just can't find it now and wonder if David retconjured it away. It was a whole big exchange between Silver and the Text where the Text basically threatened to, well, stop updating the story for us. I gathered that it was more trying to push him toward an E or M rating, essentially. Reminded me distinctly of one of my comments to David on his Ponyfinder story, basically suggesting he wasn't using the M rating aggressively enough at the time: that he didn't make enough use of it to compensate for the audience that would simply never look at the story because it was M. The Text's comments definitely rang as an echo of that comment in my mind.
Silver you lovable doof what have you gotten into now?
wonder how much longer they will be in agnupt and how the herd is going to react to silver bringing the sisters back with one he somehow accidentally raped and probably being rutted by Tia? Gonna be a wild ride that is for sure.
6076905
Assuming he doesn't die in the process, rutting Tia is already pre-approved, since he is officially married to her as part of the Royal Circle. Night Watch already has to deal with both his weird dual-herding status, and his professional studding. The sisters are something else entirely.
Though, this is partially predictable. They were saying 3 months for the trip. Silver is known to have a very active libido, and the only wife he is bringing was one he had no prior sex with, and is only slowly warming up to him that way. They should have either brought another wife (Fast Change seems like the best option for many reasons) or made some other kind of provision for him to have his needs met on the trip. That said, it's only predictable that he would face temptations of some kind. It's still his responsibility to resist them, which he failed.
Yep Silver may be in a little hot water with Shei over taking Aila's purity.
the promise Silver made to Aila and to both Aila and Shei is life binding and really speaks of his goals to be so much better in his life and for Equestria over all.
"I'll watch you both get old, and dig your grave for you."
now I am hoping he survives trying to quicken Celestia, and Luna's wrath as she was promised first quickening. now she will have to weight for at lest a year so that three princesses are not heavy with foal at the same time.
Harts Fire
PS I love finding gifts like this in the morning.
PPS it sounds funny but at some point I would like to see Fluttershy come to Silver and ask to be quickened.
they would make such a gorges foal together.
found double spacing!
and another one
6077394 i believe she's too small for him. Pop goes the 'shy~
6077408 Typos arrested for conspiracy.
6077422
I imagine Shei-Silver talk like that:
-You promised me you won't deflower my sister!
-Jesus lady, all that fuss over something this miniscule. Alright, here [winged horse majick noises] As good as new!
also I don't think horses even have that part of anatomy.
I wouldn't call this rape. I dunno, i think either my internal rape detector is failing (i raged alright when Max received some rough love from Twi in another story) or well, it wasn't rape.
>inb4 SWJ shitstorm. "Mansplaining"&"rape culture"
6077534 There was no physical... thing, just mental. If she lied about it, it'd be hard to prove her wrong.
With court in session does that mean more petitions for more typos through out the city?
6077557 I would only hope Amenti would decline.
Thanks for the bonus chapter.
6077581 Sorry I took a walk through Anugypt and found this strangevehicles.com/images/content/149875.jpg . It looks like the petition got through some how.
6076437 He didn't 'accidentally' a rape, Celestia told him to rape her and he did. There is no other way to look at it. Honestly I am kinda shocked about it. He forgives a lot of things, but one thing he held above all else and never forgave is when people took choice away from him. And now he has done that with someone else and used it to rape them. Silver is, now and forever, a Hipocrite.
The rape was still hot, enough for me to click the Thumbs Up button, and I want more hot sexy sex, MOAR I SAY!, but he is still a Hipocrite.
Wondering at the future problems he was creating "by" making such a powerful promise to the two.
The "wealthy-looking" cat.
There is nothing to thank "me" (or alternately, "us") for.
6077910 There are, in fact, other ways to look at it.
6078086 Fixed!
6078152 I'm going to speak more to the "was it rape?" issue in my analysis of chapter 13; that's something I do mostly as an intellectual exercise, since I think that it's a minor issue otherwise. Essentially, I love to debate.
That said, insofar as Night Watch and "infidelity" go, I seem to recall Night Watch making up her mind that she did want Silver to keep up his studding duties shortly before she left. She still had mixed feelings, but she'd made up her mind that she wanted him to do it. Bear in mind, she hasn't exactly been consistent on this issue, as she initially said she didn't want to be reminded of his doing that, and then taking an active part in the whole debacle with Rainbow Dash and Applejack.
That said, I believe the crux of the issue here is that prior to leaving for Anugypt, Silver could divide all of his permissible sexual activities into two groups: his wives (including the "circle") and singular encounters with various mares specifically for the purpose of studding them. So in other words, he can have all the sex he wants with his wives, but any other mare has to be an encounter where they only have sex for the purposes of reproduction, after which point he's no longer allowed to be sexually intimate with them.
That's all fairly well established. My take on the current situation is that Shei and Aila represent the creation of a third category (of mares that Silver is permitted to have sex with). His slave girls occupy a position that makes them more than a "studding" encounter, but less than a wife. In essence, they occupy a status mid-way between the two; there are various differences that could be delineated in that regard, but I'd hold that Silver does have unlimited conjugal rights with regards to them. That is to say, it's not "cheating" if he has sex with them.
The basis for that particular point is that Silver is legally bound to them, and them to him, in a manner akin to his marriage to his wives. Simply put, Silver is legally responsible for them, until such a time as he formally dismisses them (if he ever does, which seems unlikely). On the flip-side, Shei and Aila do not have the freedom to have sex with anyone else besides Silver without his say-so. This could very well be thought of as a "marriage" where the rights and privileges are severely lopsided. That said, the various legal - and social - bonding between them makes them having sex permissible.
To put it another way, Silver having sex with his slave-girls does not mean that he's cheating on his wives.
6078189
I feel like his wives need to buy in on this before that third category exists, particularly Night Watch.
I think if you want to talk about legalities, you're right. There's nothing illegal about what he's doing with them, assuming the courts would uphold his claiming of them as slaves in the first place. (Alia is probably clear cut, and Shei essentially volunteered, so I'm willing to assume, at least in Anugypt or Saddle Arabia it would fly. And Celestia's personal approval counts for a lot in Equestria.)
But 'cheating' in a marriage isn't normally about legality. It's about betrayal of trust with the spouse, which is why I generally consider it okay with the spouse's permission (though there can be further issues there, like if you are pressuring your spouse into allowing it when they aren't really okay with it).
Silver can't just create a new category of sexual encounters for himself and thus get Night Watch's implicit permission without even discussing it with her. Night Watch has accepted the previous two categories as acceptable (despite her misgivings), but this new category is being done entirely outside her knowledge so far.
My prediction is that she will be hurt by it when she learns of it, feel he did cheat on her, and then either
a) come to terms with it, and accept the third category as you suggest or
b) divorce Silver.
David may well surprise me with some third option, and there's a very real possibility that things will take some time to process before Night ultimately lands on one side or the other. I think it's unlikely, but not impossible, that Night will somehow convince Silver to keep the sisters on in a purely non-sexual capacity going forward once they return, or that she'll invite them into the herd (I can't see Silver actually objecting on that one).
But Silver arbitrarily adding new categories of 'acceptable' sexual encounters for himself is exactly what fake-RD was all about. It was even masked by being 'studding', wink wink. Night Watch and the other wives need to be consulted.
Again, I think they should have foreseen this, especially Night Watch, and figured something out in advance, rather than, what, assuming Celestia was going to satisfy him the whole time? Not that she couldn't, but it was a bit much to presume of her. But now it's going to be going on for weeks, or supposedly three months, before she even finds out. And with 1-2 foals living in her household as a result.
6078113 This is, without a doubt, the best chapter yet for this story. Seriously, this one not only brought the political intrigue to new heights, but it also managed to perfectly balance it against intricate character drama. It really feels like this tale has hit its stride now, and I hope that it can keep this pace up for a long time to come.
First was the immediate fallout of Silver's having had sex with Aila. It's a truism that sex changes things, and the opening scene shows that this is no exception. What I found fascinating here, however, was the subtle way that Silver and Aila were talking past each other. There were quite clearly a number of understandings and presumptions - due to differences in cultural upbringing, in all likelihood - behind her words to Silver that made it clear that the implications of what they did were very different for her than they were for him.
Luckily, we weren't left in the dark, and Aila managed to make herself understood. It seems clear, at this point, that she wasn't concerned with issues of consent. Rather, she's markedly afraid for her future, particularly in terms of how much value she's lost as a potential wife due to no longer being a virgin. Rather than caring about any issues of agency, Aila is far more upset at the idea that, since she's just a servant and not a wife, she'll be thrown away now that Silver has had her, and she won't have anything worthwhile left with which to offer a potential husband.
Indeed, everything she said and did spoke to this. When she mentioned that he was a stud, she was making a sly reference to the fact that a stud's usual activities could be crudely summarized as "pump-and-dump" a mare (which means that she clearly knows she's pregnant). Indeed, her rebuking him for having sex with mares who weren't his wife or girlfriend was, to me, meant specifically in that regard (e.g. her rejection of the very idea of studding, with its lack of responsibility on the part of the stallion). Even her reference to being given a bag of bits and a farewell when they got back to Equestria was a reference to her fear of abandonment.
Insofar as the question of whether or not Silver raped her goes...she did make the accusation, but that struck me as her lashing out at him (due to her aforementioned fear that he would throw her aside now that he'd taken what he wanted) rather than her honestly feeling that he'd violated her. Of course, that brings up the question of whether or not he actually did rape her.
I could write quite the polemical on this, but I'll try to keep my thoughts on that particular topic to a minimum, mostly because that particular debate has the potential to become a true tempest in a teapot, and while I enjoy debating, certain topics are controversial enough that less is more. Simply put, I don't think that Silver raped Aila, for a number of reasons.
The first of these is the legal argument. While we haven't gotten an exact look at the legal system of Anugypt (or any other country, for that matter), it seems like indentured servitude/slavery is legal there, at least in certain circumstances. Given that both Aila and Shei immediately accepted Silver's claim over Aila without protest, this seems like an implicit endorsement of this system (which means that that's likely the case in Saddle Arabia as well). That this grants unlimited sexual rights to someone so bound was stated almost flat-out by Aila in this chapter: she noted that, as Silver's property, she cannot withhold consent.
Fair enough, but notwithstanding legal technicalities, could the act be characterized as rape? That's a much murkier issue, simply because there's not going to be an objective metric by which to draw upon (moreover, I'd like to preemptively caution against any such judgments as being taken to grant insight into the moral/ethical frameworks of the person making them - fiction isn't reality, and so we need not hold it to the same standard). As such, this is one of those questions that's going to have a different answer depending on whom you ask.
For my part, I don't think that Silver raped Aila. Leaving aside the fact that last chapter's narration flat-out stated that she wanted this - which is probably the single most salient point - the question of whether or not Aila consented is ambiguous. The closest thing we have to a denial on her part is in the last chapter when, in response to Silver's telling her to raise her tail, she replies "make me." While that might be taken as an outright denial, it could also be taken as being challenging, in that she wanted him to be forceful (which, it should be noted, she responded positively to when he interpreted it that way). Likewise, when asked after the fact if she didn't want it, she sidestepped the question, noting only that slaves can't say no. In neither case did she unambiguously make it clear that his advances were unwelcome. Hence, I think that it was a consensual - if rather dom/sub - encounter.
Moving on from there, the chapter masterfully switched gears to the political scene in the pharaoh's court. And what a scene it was! Apparently, whatever happened last night lit a fire under Amenti, and she's actively getting involved in administrating her country again. This was quite interesting, as we got a glimpse into issues of infrastructure, issues along the southern border, the internal finances of the country, etc. We even got a glimpse of a certain "fat cat" (in terms of wealth, rather than girth) who may be the first opposition we've seen so far (notwithstanding the intruders in Amenti's room last night).
We also got to meet the Equestrian ambassador to Anugypt, which was a nice touch. Moreover, she provided us with what I felt was the most relevant tidbit of this chapter: that Amenti would come very close to going broke if she financed a plan for urban renewal in Catro. That's not a minor point, since money is the lifeblood of an economy, which is one of the main ways you measure a country's health. This tells us that Amenti's government is running out of money, and that's going to be a very big deal regarding future endeavors...though those will have to be considered in terms of how her political opponents react to her suddenly taking an interest in active governance again. (That, and it was nice to see her call out that warmonger on his attempt at profiteering).
I also wanted to take a moment again to talk about how much I appreciated the story showing us insights into the thoughts and feelings of the characters. Here, I felt, was an excellent example of it, when we were told that Amenti was embarrassed into withdrawing her request to borrow Silver, and that that was Celestia's plan. Of course, that means that Silver won't be getting any time with that high-ranked pussy (doubt entendre, for the win), but as Celestia noted, even the appearance of impropriety right now won't help Amenti overall. Hopefully she has some trustworthy guards.
For now, Silver has to face Shei's wrath, and I suspect that she'll make Aila's anger seem tame by comparison. Stick to your guns, Silver! You won't be able to be the strong prince they want if you're hiding behind Celestia's tail!
6078265 Insofar as the emotional aspects of this being "cheating" or not go, I can see where you're coming from, but I don't agree. As Celestia noted, Shei is essentially a broodmare - that is, a mare for whom the studding will essentially be recurring; Aila could very well be viewed in that light as well, especially in the wake of Silver taking her virginity.
Of course, those are more technicalities, similar to the changeling-Rainbow Dash, as you noted. Likewise, I do think that you raise a good point with regards to it being unrealistic to expect that Silver would suddenly go celibate for months on end (notwithstanding the highly-questionable presence of Celestia in that regard). Moreover, this would obviously go down better if Silver had his wives signing off on it, but in this case, I think that Silver has more leeway. He made the best decision he could with what he had at the time - having sex with either of the Windsong sisters wasn't something he did until he had the permission of the only wives he could speak to (e.g. Luna encouraged him, when she met him in a dream, to bed them. Likewise, Celestia encouraged him to do Aila).
But the question that seems to be at the heart of your point is: how will Night Watch react to this? In all honesty, I don't see her divorcing Silver over it. Simply put, that seems far too much like cutting off her nose to spite her face.
Night Watch is eminently logical, and able to predict situations based on small amounts of evidence. She must have guessed that this was extremely likely to happen, and mentally prepared herself for it. That she would be betrayed by this simply doesn't seem like her, since she knows what Silver is like, in terms of forming intimate emotional bonds at the drop of a hat. Moreover, she knows that when he does this, it doesn't lessen the feelings he has for the mares he already loves, even if it does create some logistical problems with who he can be with at any given time (hence why there are smaller sub-groups forming within his massive harem, such as Luna-Night-Fast, etc.).
I think that there's also the fact that Night's insecurities blossomed just as her pregnancy entered its later stages; it's quite notable that she warmed to the idea of Silver being a stud when she had that project to make a road through the Everfree Forest - and then set up a training school for guards - to cheer her up. Her depression, in my mind, was souring her on all everything, Silver's dalliances included. I suspect she knows, even if only subconsciously, that after she gives birth and gets back into shape, she'll feel better about everything, including Silver's slave-girls.
6078423
I agree it's unlikely. But it's probably the only realistic recourse she has other than just getting on board. So I'd guess most likely is that she has a short lived problem with it, works through it, and then accepts it. You make a good point that she'll probably have predicted it by the time Silver gets home. Not necessarily the particulars, but she'll be expecting to hear the details of just whom it was he found to be intimate with, rather than being completely blindsided.
For that matter, I think the lack of communication is the big issue at the moment, and one that is probably solvable in some fashion. At the very least, Silver could ask Luna to talk it over with Night Watch for him. Perhaps better, maybe they can get a letter to her?
I jokingly pointed it out in a comment a few chapters back, but he does technically have the Itinerant King's comms device in his inventory, if he hasn't removed it from his saddlebags at some point, and could get a message home very quickly that way. (He never thinks about it, though, and would probably be quite surprised to learn the IK has members in range that can bounce the signal to Ponyville. I would be kind of surprised if he did think to try it. He didn't even think about it when he was trying to figure out a guard to bring with him, despite South Wind's offer to try to protect him, especially when things got violent.)
6078456 I suspect that a letter is impractical; it'd have to travel by the same sea route that they're going to take home, after all. That said, I do think that talking to Luna and having her soften the ground up for when he brings his new servants home is a good idea. Hopefully he'll think of that.
6078475
Equestria has well established letter teleportation magic, in particular Spike <--> Celestia. And Spike could easily deliver it to someone who lives in the same castle as him. But that assumes the range isn't an issue. It's also established in Silververse that even alicorns can't teleport themselves across the ocean, and so that may well prevent sending a letter that distance.
But Luna seems like the most likely and perhaps best choice, especially given Luna's relationship with Night Watch.
6078543 Ah yes, my casual disregard for Spike as a character means that I do tend to forget about that.
I realized another reason I am annoyed with the series, silver is according to the stories quite young. Like the oldest he might be ie sixteen.
6424750 Physically, but he's an alicorn, making him larger and more intimidating, and has the brain of a 35 year old man.
It is pretty messed up in a few ways. Welcome aboard!
Pharaoh."
the Pharaoh
It was like 'going good, going good'. "HE DID WHAT!?" 'shit' now you are in the hot seat sliver.
Ha ha ha
7397958 He tries so hard...
The word of should be between much and an here.
This should be led.
7423832 Fixed!
Sigh. Silver never learns. He committed what might be the ultimate mistake here: he listened to Celestia.
Now he's promised Celestia something he shouldn't have, in trouble with both Arabians, Luna & Night Watch (when they find out).
The chapter starts with Aila dressed and ready to leave - presumably already clean. Then, later after their delay to converse, Silver urges her to clean herself and she does. While still dressed. Why?
