Just another SARpone, here for my daily fics.

Xenith's 31 Questions Every Character Should Be Able To Answer · 4:10am May 25th, 2012

One of my clever non-pony writer-bros shared this list with me some years back, and it's been an invaluable tool not just for defining characters, but also for keeping them in character as they develop. It's an old idea that predates the internet and exists in a hundred variations, but this particular flavor has done right by me.

Well, hello from a fellow SARling then! I'm with a team in rural California; we do mostly wilderness work in mountains and canyons, which keeps me a little more honest about not sitting on my butt staring at horsewords 24/7. Type 2, though going for a Type 1 cert as soon as they schedule a qualification hike on a day I can make. :P

We missed out on the mass hurricane redeployments to TX/FL because where we're at we don't do urban search or fast-water work. There was some grumbling from a few corners of the team about that, though it's a pretty big commitment to keep up with certs that we'd use almost exclusively for mutual aid.

Out of curiosity, have you written (or seen) any SAR stories? That's a niche of ponyfic that I hadn't even really considered could exist, but in hindsight it's ripe with some compelling ideas.

Much obliged for the watch, I'll do my best to be witty enough to make sure you don't regret it.

As a matter of fact it does. I was on a SAR team in New Mexico for a while, and it's my OC horse's professional niche of choice. I'm hoping I'll be able to join one in my new location, once I'm properly settled in.

Out of curiosity, what does "SARpone" mean? My first assumption wouldn't be that it has anything to do with Search And Rescue, but if it does, we should compare notes.

Arrrrrc! :D Thanks for the watch, fellow jurist!
