The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity. – Yeats

Big Box O'Links

You're not a gardener, are you? So perhaps you don't know that once a garden is established, much of good gardening is about removal rather than planting, honing what you have to produce a pleasing effect, sacrificing the particular for the good of the whole. Gardening is a creative pastime, but the result is always a work in progress; unlike a painting or a piece of music a garden is never fixed in time.

― Rosalie Parker - In The Garden

The most solid advice for a writer is this, I think: Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.

― William Saroyan

Our choicest plans have fallen through, our airiest castles tumbled over, because of lines we neatly drew and later neatly stumbled over.

— Piet Hein - Grooks

I'm just scribbling up an art for a thing.

It's not a great thing. In fact it's probably the most cliché, trite piece of thing I've written in a long time (and that takes some doing, believe me). It may not even make sense. I could, of course, have pretended that I'd intended all the weird holes and issues as deliberate affectations, or that it was in some sense artistic, but no. I'm not that pretentious.

2380667 That would explain why I started getting favs on it again.

2319402 Oh yes, how dare you appropriate my culture and mock it so with your slightly decadent alternative behaviours beneath the brim! Words shall be had! In fact I dare say I shall write a letter to the Times!

Good day, sir! *nod*

Well, nice hat.

By the way, apparently I owe you an apology for culturally appropriating British headgear at Bronycon and handing out top hats to people who were not British, and wearing one myself. The top hat reflects an outdated stereotype of British people as sartorially sophisticated and a bit stuffy.
