Balanced Dawn an 'average' colt from Sires Hollow, one that wasn’t ever supposed to exist. At least according to his new memories.

About the money, dawn knows the midas, gold spell right. So can he just touch a tree or some dirt and turn it into gold. Because we saw the spell work on the collar an inanimate object. So dawn can just print gold.

He could, and risk ruining the economy like the US did by printing money. no but in all seriousness Dawn’s own morals stop him from doing that… normally.
I wonder if certain Mares will get jealous a little seen how close Lyra is staying next to Dawn

Bits could be an alloy…
Yeah, Celestia’s correct: neither Luna nor NMM would be especially proud of the Equestrian legal system if they learned of this event.
Is Frost permanently admitted to a sanitarium? She doesn’t seem like the brightest crayon in the box regardless of whether she ever gets out or not. But maybe she caught on to the ploy and played it out.
Was there a minimum time before parole would be examined for Flare or is that at the Princess’ discretion?
11772499
I feel like dawn should have a talk with Celestia about his ability to print gold. First economically second because I feel like that type of magic should be studied to have a proper spell to revert it with out teaching the spell to cause it
Thanks for the update!

Yeah that’s just one reason she is keeping him close.
Nice
Minor mispelling of dungeon.
At least none of them were able to trick their way out of a proper sentencing, despite any concerns raised in the previous chapters.
👍
You should fuse the 2 chapters.

Not worth it, also cliff hanger
And so justice was served even if it too light tbh.
NGL the fact that frost just got essentially a slap on the wrist make me question wtf are the jure and juges on even if she a kid...
Well anyway sentence seem as usual but still feels like they not of rgre setting but F it I'm glad to see one of my favorite fic get updated!
My personal head canon for fantasy sentences for murders is execution followed by turning them into undead ghouls with near full conscious awareness but striped of their will and force to relive all the torment they did as they work of all the years they forcefully cut.
11772709
Wow dark. Yeah Equestria has ‘no killing’ laws even for the worst offenders.
11772712
I'd say too bad but the other hand the amount of backdoor shenanigans might outweigh the benefits.
I'm surprised the cutting of horns isn't a punishment for unicorn. Especially for those who use magic to kill other ponies. Seem like a fitting punishment lose all that defines you as a tribe.
11772713
Nah no horn cutting but they will have to wear null rings.
11772515
Why not have metals or mineral that have anti magic property like cold iron, demitrium, petricid or something similar that nullifies or warps magic for checking? Or abjuration be used to check to make sure the gold is authentic?
11772725
Yeah magically created gold or other elements are not as ‘stable’ magically as natural ones, good idea.

Being committed to a psych ward isn’t exactly a “slap on the wrist.” We aren’t talking about a voluntary treatment center. This will be a secure facility for patients known to be a danger to themselves or others. It’s basically a prison, but with more doctors trying to fix the inmate’s mental issues and medical support staff doing double duty as additional prison guards.
Serial murderers getting life in the dungeon in a nation that doesn’t have the death penalty is proper. The possibility of their adult child getting a second chance after intense treatment for having been literally raised to believe that horseshit they tried to justify their actions with isn’t all that wrong. Second chances are kind of Equestria’s thing, after all. Or are we still ignoring that Starlight’s canon death toll is literally universal?
Really, the only thing I have an issue with is the mother having a chance at parole after seeing a shrink, and that’s only assuming she wasn’t sold to Onyx’s parents as a filly and/or magically influenced to force her to hold his beliefs at some point after meeting him.
11772769
So it practically an asylum? Well NVM then that as deserved as it gets.
Technically starlight never exactly happened because time shenanigans make it murky for lack of better words. But that a can of worms better left sealed.
My main grip with murderers getting life sentence is that it seems a waist of resources to contain them but that just me. The problem with rehabilitation is that it a delicate process that isn't guaranty to work especially if the behavior is ingrained throughoutly like it implied. Again this is how most cases are handled doesn't mean I have to like parts of them.
Personally I think the mother got too good a sentence because this is rgre where the mare are male and stallion are female so her getting a parole seems too immersion breaking because that the equivalent of a man saying he was coned by his wife(generally seen as a weaker) and actually being believe!
11772778
Do remember the two main mares of that herd are on the run still and she blamed them as the main culprits. They will get a harsher punishment if caught.
11772781
Ok that actually makes sense.
I'm not sure the jury is usually the ones who decide the punishments. I'm not very knowledgeable on it, but I doubt the civilian jury called in to decide if the defendant is guilty would be deciding life in prison or otherwise.
Enjoying the story~
11772785
Yeah it was a jury of nobles. Typically Celestia would pass judgment but she couldn’t since she also arrested them. Her own stupid laws.
11772499
The parents have already been doing it a while and IME in most fics gold is valuable but not anything like gold is IRL so I think he'd have to do it a lot more for there to be issues.
Plus they were basically being sold as gold covered food for more than what they would get for just the gold.
If gold really was as valuable as it was here I don't know why they would have bothered converting ponies unless it only works on ponies but since he was able to use it on the collar it implies he can use it on anything.
However IIRC his spell isn't exactly the same as their spell so maybe theirs only worked on ponies.
I just can't imagine if you could make solid gold plants you wouldn't, or at it's most basic you could turn regular bricks into gold bricks.
I saw this line and immediately thought of that scene from "My Little Doomsday: Applecrack" where celesita zots applejack after she pleads not guilty by reason of insanity.
It's implied they no longer have the death penalty so I don't know what more they could ask for, also the headline seems to completely ignore the family of serial killers that were selling ponies for meat bit in favor of the way less shocking "Unicorn supremist family".
Also spellcheck is telling me it's spelled supremacist.
11772511
Is there something different about this gold vs regular gold or can he turn regular gold into other things?
Would be interesting to see someone try to revert some bits and see if they ended up in a literal wooden nickel situation where one or more of the bits transformed into something else less valuable.
A really... Strange law system you've created there Celestia. Jury that are also the judges? I agree with Celly's demon voice, please burn this system and make a new one.
11773151
I think Celestia herself is the judge in most cases, it because she also the one who arrested them she can't be the judge now.
11773260
But aren't there like other judges? An entire country can't run on one Judge.
11773354
We're in Canterlot her city so i suppose she the main judge.
Since i see noble giving preference treatment to other noble/unicorn and wont let a non unicorn noble have sich a position
11773354
So yes there are judges, but not many. since the crime rate is so low most petty squabbles are handled directly by the guards and disputes between parties are handled in arbitration.
Yes! The assets! I'm so curious on how that'll go.
Kindness to the guilty is cruelty to the victim.
That is, to more succinctly say, it is sickening when anyone pretends that the death penalty is inherently immoral.
So they'll definitely be back...
