This story is a sequel to Den Fjerde Væg

Foul deeds are at hoof, and an ancient evil stalks Equestria once again. Its power will break and scatter even the Bearers of the Elements of Harmony.

Now, Equestria’s only hope lies far, far away—where rests a magic older and stronger than the foundations of the world. Though this magic is hidden beyond a fearsome barrier, no wall can stand up to a pony fighting for the sake of her friends.

This story is a sequel to Guiding Light

For those who have not read it already, Guiding Light is required reading. This is the second book in the series.

Warning: Description contains spoilers for Guiding Light, and the first chapter of this one.

After learning of her ascension from the Princesses, Aurora must deal with her changing instincts, the secrets she must keep, and the scorn of the nobility, who see her only as an undeserving student, and a threat to their lifestyle. A threat that must be removed.

Note: This story shares canon with Rites of Ascension (with permission), and is "set" a significant time after it ends. Since Rites is still unfinished, there may be minor differences in canon and story elements that have not been explicitly stated. New additions to RoA will most likely not result in a change in this story. Also, there may be personality differences - copying a character's personality doesn't do well for good writing.

However, this will certainly not be just a clone with an OC. It is part of the reason I had not cited the canon influences in Guiding Light, since readers would make assumptions. Even if there was no ascension element to my story, I still would have likely used the same canon.

The base and the glass are no different from any other snow globe, but it holds an endless void inside it. When two young sisters jokingly request for it to show them its magic, it gives them the power to fill it as they please. Within that dimension, they might as well be goddesses--but to the world at large, they're still confused, frightened children.

The younger sister, bitter and lonely, thinks it's a chance to make a better world than our own. The elder sister just feels responsible for protecting the innocent pastel quadrupeds they've created. But can two children really be the goddesses the pony race needs? And when monsters begin to threaten the ponies, what must the sisters sacrifice to create the Equestria they dream of?

Twilight Sparkle broke time when she got her cutie mark. Now Twilight and Sparkle are sisters from another time. Twilight is hailed as the potentially greatest light magician of all time, and already has a reputation as a hero by the time she goes to Ponyville. This isn't her story, not primarily.

Sparkle is an orphan - her dark magic killed her parents. She lives with her brother in Canterlot's industrial sector because they can't afford anything better. She can't leave either. She's a natural dark mage; while Sparkle won't go mad like Sombra, her reputation is hardly any better. Worse, the law doesn't see her as a good pony.

The fact that the dead don't stay dead around her, or that Thorn - Spike's double - is an undead, soul-eating abomination, are other matters altogether.

(Also has some Slice-of-Life, but fimfiction tags won't let me put it with Adventure.)

Has an ask blog to go with it: Ask Sparkle and Thorn.
Also has a TvTropes page: Split Second Tropes.

Spike led Thorax into the throne room of the Crystal Castle confident he could convince the others that the changeling could be trusted. That he meant no harm, and instead wanted to be an ally and live peacefully with them. That he could make them see Thorax for what he really was. That they could befriend the changeling and accept him as one of their own.

They didn't.

And consequences followed.

In Canterlot, every foal goes to Magic Kindergarten. Every unicorn, every pegasus... and even a certain earth pony.

I have to be the only earth pony here. Why in Equestria does this have to happen to me?

It wasn't as if Aurora was uninterested. It was that she was bored. Extremely bored. They taught her nothing about theory, nothing interesting. Class time was all about levitation for the unicorns, flying for the pegasi. But nopony really knew what to teach an earth pony. Not really. All of their magic was passive, right?

Right?

King Sombra’s dark influence was obliterated by the Crystal Heart, and the villain is well and truly dead. But when he attempts to steal the afterlife of an innocent victim, a human spirit is left hurtling towards Equestria, where this unfortunate soul is revived into the only vessel available: the reconstituted body of King Sombra himself.

Thus, a cheerfully oblivious alien is crammed into the form of the most evil and malicious being Equestria has ever known. Not that Shining Armor and Cadence know this, of course. As far as they are concerned, the King is back and he’s lost his fricking mind.
