Set in the TwistedSpectrum's Five Score, Divided by Four setting. If you haven't read it yet I'd recommend giving it a look. Very interesting concept. Though the whole time I was reading it I kept wondering where the Princesses were. He said he didn't plan on using them so I decided I'd have a go at a side-story in his cool universe. XD

Princess Celestia conceals it well, in appearance and poise, but she is an old mare. A thousand years is a long time to dwell, and her's have been filled with laughter and tears, love and loss, achievement and regret.

With a fresh open book and quill, Twilight Sparkle endeavors to capture in some semblance the journey that Celestia, Queen of Equestria and Warden of the Sun, has trekked in her centuries.

But before Nightmare Moon, before Discord, and before the Crown; in the age when Equestria was little more than a patchwork of jealous princes vying for supremacy, there was a white pony.

Tall, strong, and mysterious, she'd creep from the wilds and realize a destiny forged in elder days. A terrible evil stirs after millennia of dormancy. Equestria needs a hero, and the Wanderer of the North will answer the call.

An epic work retelling the life of Celestia, expanding on the mythology created in De Surgente Cadenteque Alicornuum, but it's not necessary to have read it beforehand.

A tale of sadness and of tragedy, the likes of which not often seen. Celestia, Princess of the sun...grand ruler of Equestria, and loving sister. Painful are the tears she will shed, and broken her heart will remain.

There is no greater pain than that of utter helplessness.

Warning: Story will contain horrible romance clichés, cutsieness, and all around silliness.

You have been warned.

Everypony believes Princess Celestia has always been distant, aloof and dispassionate, but that's far from the truth. She cares very deeply for her ponies, and a tragic mistake long ago made her realize she's not perfect. Since then, she's been careful, nearly over-cautious, until a mother's plea gives her the opportunity to redeem herself in her own eyes, and save another, who becomes a very special pony, one who reminds the Princess that anything is possible, even forgiveness.

Set in the universe of Nathan Traveler's Omnius' Travels: Equestria. Omnius/Nathan/Sean appears with his author's permission.

"Everything scared me. The thunder, the twisted trees, and the darkness. The darkness was the worst. Everywhere I ran, it followed. No matter how fast or in what direction it was there....I cried out for my mother, but there was no response. Every cry was ignored, until she came."

While on her way back to Canterlot, Princess Celestia must stop in Ponyville for the night while a storm blows over. She finds a young colt crying for his mother in the Everfree Forest. He only remembers some basic spells and his age. She takes him back to Ponyville, only to learn that no one has even seen him before. The Princess takes him back to Canterlot and tries to find him a home, but something happens that changes all of that.

This is my first story so please be honest with me and help me become a better writer.

This story is a sequel to Secret Histories

To the precious peace-loving ponies of Equestria:

Has your life lost meaning in a world without Princesses?

Have law and order in your quaint little village collapsed under an endless onslaught of monsters and brigands?

Do you need a hero? Do you dare to be a hero in these dark and uncertain times?

Fear not, little ponies, for if you are brave enough, there is something you can do: Travel to Hoofington and spend a night at the Inn of the Prancing Pony.

I guarantee if you do, your life will change...forever.

This is a story set hundreds of years before "The Best of All Possible Worlds", yet it was written after and influenced by the events of "Parade Coverage" and "Secret Histories". It was co-written with Hope. The cover illustration is largely taken from part of the fan art "First Day", by Harwick.

The "Alternate Universe" tag is because this story explores a different way that the events following the banishment of Nightmare Moon could have unfolded. As for the "Human" tag...well, that will become clear later.
