I swear, this is my last time plugging the fanfic I co-wrote with Hope, which just so happens to be a prequel to the human part of At the Inn of the Prancing Pony. (Um, there's a human part to At the Inn of the Prancing Pony. Spoilers to anybody reading this who hadn't reached Chapter 22.)

As you may remember, "At the Inn of the Prancing Pony" was accompanied by a series of blog posts wherein Princess Luna of Equestria would review whatever pop culture ephemera caught her fancy. Well, the story may be over, but Luna's still reviewing.
In a bizarre coincidence of timing, fictional Twilight Sparkle becomes an alicorn on nearly the same day as actual Twilight Sparkle does the very same thing. I’d almost accuse the writers of using predestination magic, other than the fact that the means of ascension employed differed so much between the two.
Note: I would not be the least surprised if nobody is reading this entry, given the recent events. I am in fact only doing it as a way to keep my thoughts together, or perhaps to keep from thinking about what is really happening. Let me spend a moment to tell you that I know very little more than you do about what happened: The opening ceremonies of the Equestrian Games in Ponyville were interrupted by a human fanatic who attempted to assassinate Princess Celestia. A code of honor is an excellent way to conduct one’s life, as long as one remembers what “honor” is: the way you are seen by others. By its definition, one is judged honorable by your peers. Your own opinion of your actions and thoughts are irrelevant.
For this reason, a code of honor that hurts those around you, and cause your peers to hate or resent you instead of respect you cannot be considered anything other than a failure.
Here, let me summarize the entire episode in one sentence: The writers think Spike is so incredibly stupid that he doesn’t deserve to do anything worthwhile with his life ever again.
On second thought, that summarizes the show’s entire approach to Spike-centered episodes, so I’ve saved you the trouble of watching any of them.
After being somewhat peeved with Rainbow Dash’s character as displayed in “Sleepless in Ponyville”, she manages to completely redeem herself with her actions in this episode. The character of Lightning Dust is clearly meant to confront Rainbow with her past self, the completely self-absorbed pony she was at the start of the series. In the intervening episodes, she has learned the value of her element, and at some of the complexities of how to balance loyalties to groups with overlapping and
Dreams are a mirror to one’s soul, reflecting your problems back to you in a distorted form. Scootaloo’s dreams were a reflection of her insecurity, of her fear that she would never have a place of safety, a friend or relative who could be counted on to protect her from harm. With the advice of a guardian of dreams, Scootaloo summoned the courage to face her fear, and in so doing, found out that reality was a good deal less terrifying than her fantasies.
I honestly don’t have much to say about this episode. It is a sequel to an earlier episode, which I didn’t see, and it apparently references “Winter Wrap Up”, which is another episode I did not see. Being a fictional sequel to a real-life incident, it’s got to be rather weird to some of the participants to see this.
I continue to be amazed by the number of people—both ponies and humans—who suffer under the delusion that childhood is meant to be a period of innocence and simple happiness. Nothing could be further from the truth: childhood is brutal. Furthermore, childhood is supposed to be brutal.
The second half of the opening two-parter of Season 3 sadly fails to live up to the potential of Part One. Sombra is given a character barely above that of a mindless monster, and is then blown to bits. And given the extreme threat that we are told this Sombra is, the majority of the running time is devoted to the Crystal Fair—perfectly alright in a slice-of-life episode, but a major killer of momentum in an adventure arc.
