Know your mare, know your mare, know your mare...
The stage was occupied by a beloved face known throughout all of Ponyville, smiling and giving a little wave to the canned audience applause.
Mrs. Cake...
...First, we want to express our respect for you...
Pony Joe speaks highly of you...
And we speak highly of him...
So you're cool in our book...
"Gosh, thank you very much."
Now away from the pleasantries...
Mrs. Cake...
If that is your real name...!
"Oh, well, I changed it some time ago.
Chiffon Swirl...
Eats her toast jelly side down...
"Can't remember when I last had a piece of toast, much less if it had jam on it."
We said jelly...
"Jelly, jam - both get the job done."
Chiffon Swirl...
Doesn't know the difference between jam and jelly...
"Of course I do, dearie. But I'm a baker and even I've got to admit they suit the same purpose."
Chiffon Swirl...
Should turn her apron in now...
"Alright, smart-guy. Tell me the difference between the two, hm?"
...We don't know...
"Thought so."
Mrs. Cake...
Prefers pears over apples...
"It's impossible to pick one over the other. What baker worth her sugar would count an ingredient out?"
Mrs. Cake...
Adopted the twins...
"Oh-boy-howdy! Believe you-me, I know for a fact they're not adopted."
Mrs. Cake...
Where do babies come from...?
"Umm... Well... Ask your parents, dearie."
Okay...
Cap'n, where do babies come from...?
Now you know...
Mrs. Cake...
"Didn't they ask you a question?"
I didn't hear one...
Nor did I...
Shouldn't you be getting home?
"I'm going, I'm going," Mrs. Cake cheerfully took her leave, head held high.
...So where do babies come from?
Ask your sister.

That bit at the end made me laugh!
Looks like Mrs. Cake got the best of this encounter, though.
And the difference between jelly and jam is consistency.
Ah, this is so hilarious

That, and texture.
Surprised they didn't try to pull something about Pear Butter and the Apples. But I guess that would've been crossing a line.

Keeping things lighthearted for right now.
Oh, snap! Mrs Cake just turned the tables

What's that supposed to mean?

Okay, I skipped to the end looking for the joke. It never happened. Oh well.

Maybe you'll never get it. Seems everyone else does. The point is that you tried.

No, I get it... I've just never thought causing people pain or annoyance without reason to be funny.
I don't laugh at the Three Stooges either, for the same reason.
If I see you slip and fall on a banana peel, I won't laugh at you. Instead, I'll ask if you'd like me to help.
Personally, I try to avoid anyone who laughs at another's misfortune.

All comedy derives from misfortune or pain in some fashion. If there's nobody at the detriment of the joke---most likely purely in jest with them in on it, willingly---then comedy itself falls flat. Someone has to play the fool, take a hit, or draw ire for a joke to land.
There's nothing at all wrong with that. Even the most safe jokes take root in that. Such as "why did the chicken cross the road?", while you can debate where it originated or why it is the way it is, the core answer is "to get to the other side". The joke making the one who was asked such an obvious question seem a bit foolish for not knowing a simple answer.
In the end, comedy takes on whatever form you desire it to be. It's short sighted of anyone to say "that's not funny, thus everyone who finds it funny is repugnant". If you don't find it funny, so be it. I'm sorry you could not enjoy it while others do.
That went well. At least better than that one shot when Chryssie was trying to explain that stuff and Discord butted in.

Good times... good times.
