Never watched Doctor Who? That's a shame.
Well, since each actor who does him is their own Doctor, his various regenerations have different attributes; some get pretty hardcore in kicking ass, others tend to avoid fighting, some are more comedic, while other's get pretty grimdark.
But consistently, he's always clever, has lots of good zingers, and never gets local customs down quite right, mostly out of not giving a fuck.

Dunno what ya'd need to know to write his part. Well, he's killed (mostly indrectly) thousands, if not millions (if not: more. ALOT more) of beings (almost always evil, but people do get killed basically just by being near him), including effectively genocide a few times (at least once, on purpose; his own people), and he always has been running from his own past, from the resulting guilt of being essentially the most fatal entity in all existance. Davros really tears into him on this in the Season 4 (Tennant) finale episodes (Stolent Earth/Journey's End).
