I absolutely loved this chapter, it answered some of my questions about his inventions and money questions. I'm really looking forward to the results of the minotaur debacle... and yes it is notable that posting has slowed but I can almost guarantee that your readers are understanding of the situation, especially when we get an 11k chapter or more at times!
I adore those 'Weekly' Celestia and Cure segments and to be totally honest I would love to see this ship/pairing become reality.
It is interesting to think about the realities of effective immortality in a human versus a pony society. Having to earn a living at a job you hate, or even one you just tolerate, forever, sounds horrible. But the prospect of continuing to do the one thing you do better than anypony and that makes you special is entirely different.
Heh, Cure, you should focus on either fertility issues or immortality. They are negating each other big ways. Planet is a finite resource. So probably interstellar expansion with strict birth rationing is in the Equus creatures future? With giant living colony ships to boot : )
missing end quote
New chapter, yeah!
Don't worry about slower updates, real life comes first.
By the time Twilight is born, if she's born, the world is going to be such a different place it's insane. Society is going to either get overhauled or utterly collapse. Twilight will be born in Mad Max times or paradise, no inbetween.
Good stuff!
Random thought, I find myself wondering about Heavy. I mean, he was friends with Cure before he gained his human memories. Cure is so concerned with all these fillies he's become friends with lately, but how often does he think of or interact with Heavy, who was friends with him for so much longer? Heavy doesn't seem to mind, though. Maybe Cure wasn't very close friends with anypony until after he got his memories? Or maybe he was just there to provide the illusion that Cure wasn't just surrounding himself with fillies.
Thanks again LFOD for another amazing chapter. I really enjoy how you can keep each and every chapter of this slice of life story fresh, entertaining and atleast somewhat impact full to the plot, something other slice of life stories miss out on when doing filler chapters and such. This story is hooves down one of the best slice of life fictions I've read and definitely one of my top most favorite fimfictions. It has probably not been said enough, so I will take the liberty in thanking on behalf of all us readers for all the time and effort you take out of your personal life to sit down and bring to life such an amazing story for us all to read and enjoy. I hope you moving-in pains will soon pass and I wish you the best of luck writing your next chapter. CHEERS!
I honestly didn't expect the immortality issue to be resolved so quickly. I'm also a little concerned about it. There is A LOT of truth to the unfortunate statement that society advances on the bones of the previous generation. Given how closely people tend to hold on to outdated beleifs, without death a human society would likely stagnate pretty hard, at least societally... How will ponies handle it and how does that affect Cure's desire to advance pony society?
I'm also curious about the extent of Cure's control right now. Does he still sleep? It shouldn't be necessary since its primarily a biological need required for long-term memory formation and immune function (at least as far as I can recall), both of which he can change/fix, so does he still sleep and why? Does he still poop? Why when he could just excrete non-smelly blocks of pure carbon, phosphate, etc. Heck, he could just poop out directly-usable disease-free compost...
Can he photosynthesize? Imagine changing his feathers and backfur to cells containing chloroplasts. Could he go without eating if he did so? Or go on long-distance flights that no one else can keep up with because he only has to stop for water and not food while his back and wings photosynthesize?
awesome and fun chapter
new update to "life finds a way" available, can you hear the angels singing
Still loving the story. Can’t wait to see what happens when Luna shows up but also enjoying the slow burn.
I’m hesitant about the immortality virus. Not so much because of zombies but for some other issues.
First, would it target cells in utero? If so, then it might have to be restricted to those who’ve entered menopause.
Second, the issue of mutation while mitigated is still present. Perhaps a timer of 5-10 years could be installed in them. Once a pony is de-aged, they can grow old again and then request another treatment.
Third, if everypony is eligible for it, then there will quickly come a population issue. What will ponies do then? Go to other planets? Because Equus will get rather crowded when the life cycle is broken. And if only certain ponies are eligible, then who gets to choose and what will the criteria be?
Fourth, since chaos magic was mentioned, what would happen if Discord discovered this virus should it be present in everypony? Would it be better to wait for his reform before introducing it?
If Cure visited Sweet Apple Acres, could he speed those trees along? I wonder if Granny Smith will get this treatment given her extensive age in the show or if earth ponies are just like that.

I'll save a few of those to be answered in story, but I can answer some no problem. He does sleep, as does Celestia. It was discussed in "Reunion" that alicorns can (eventually) get by fine with only a few hours of sleep or go a few days completely without. Humans can do that - in fact, that's famously one of the requirements to become a SEAL, while getting your ass kicked no less - but just innately he could skip a day or two and be fine. Would he? Would you if you didn't need it? Maybe for a while, but long term I'm betting the answer is "Not unless I had a good reason to," and I'm confident Cure would say the same.
While your point about society stagnating is something I can envision, to a degree, just imagine the brilliant minds we've lost over the last hundred years and what the world could look like had they not died - or, better yet, had stayed in their prime indefinitely. Death is a huge, huge, HUGE problem for an advancing society, especially early death. Granted it wipes away the dregs, too, so there's an argument that losers would still be losers, just for all eternity, but that's where the societal component comes in. Also, there's the possibility that what has been given can be taken away.
Photosynthesis isn't efficient enough for a moving, active creature to live off of exclusively. [Citation]
EDIT: I forgot, I did have a chapter where instead of having to use the bathroom first thing in the morning he had his plant remove the waste from his system. Chapter 57... so I guess, canonically, I already have him doing that in some situations.

Good points, particularly the pregnancy thing. Your solution is a good one and I had tossed around the idea of making a "ten year" implant, but that's technically harder and Cure's solution is in its prototype phase. The mesopause idea is feasible since they would be out of eggs at that point, as was discussed in Chapter 70. Of course, if the implant is being given out universally or used to treat something else that will be an issue, but as you also observed, neither would be impossible to overcome. Population may be an issue in several hundred years. Right now the nation's population is around 3.5 million in a continent roughly half the size of North America.
For the Discord question, what would happen if he decided white blood cells should do something different instead? Or that O2 is now a liquid at room temperature? Or that digestive tracts now move in the opposite direction? (South Park did it!) He has plenty of material to work with already; adding a couple viruses to a pony doesn't make a lick of difference to someone that can literally do almost anything they want with a snap of their claws.
Would it be nice to invite her to a dance, using hir adult alicorn body, perhaps at the big ball?
Somehow I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed that they've been dating the princess in disguise. That's romance novel material right there.
They paid for early access! But seriously, Cure is a nice enough guy that if someone who is poor paid him their life savings for services that later became free, he would probably reimburse them if they asked for it.
great chapter as always, always love to read Cure Wordz, more so when you have him interact with Celestia.
while Cure "curing" aging is a great thing, i don't think Ponykind or Equestria in general will be willing to accept immortality as an option, when you have one or two alicrons is one thing, but everypony? chaos
i imagine Cure making a final version that can double life-span as a slow solution using his organ and still have de-aging as a quick fix for those who are willing to pay the extra premium, maybe getting a plant or two to pod ponies and de-age them instead of him working on it
do we have any Cure fans that are good with Gen AI? i belive we need a cover with at least cure and serpentinus with an option to his whole family, extended one even maybe
Lovely chapter as always! Hope you manage to get those little things sorted quickly enough that you can go back to doing what you enjoy. Until the next chapter keep on going my good author!
Presumably the brain part would need the new neurons to connect the same way they were before. Idk how that would be managed by a virus and some stem cells
I really can't stress this enough, you've put out almost a million words in 14 months. That's 15,674 words per week, or ~3-5ish chapters in a normal book per week. I'm not exactly telling you to slow down or anything, and I get that this is going to be a *long* story, but purely from an objective point of view, you are well above pace. To put it in perspective, Diaries of a Madman has achieved ~3.3m words since 2012.
Like, I really really don't want to advocate against my own best interests, because I've been eating good ever since I started following this story, but if you need someone to tell you to take a break and handle your life when you need to, I'm pretty content to be that guy. I get it if you're worried that breaking pace will put you in a situation where you have to maintain a slower or inconsistent pace or that you feel like you'll get lazy or whatever, but you are in the top bracket of writing on this site in both speed and quality.
To put this further in perspective, I've recently been expanding my interests to other indie writers, mostly in the vein of SpaceBattles or Royal Road, and the common pace I've seen just from casual browsing is weekly or twice weekly updates weighing in at 2-5k words with large backlogs (like, 50k+ words, 50+ chapters sized backlogs) to help them buffer momentum.
You're a good writer, so don't stress it if you have to slow down. Back in 2012-2015 I saw a lot of decent writers start off at a break neck pace and then get super burnt out, and one of the easiest ways to burn out is to have the fun sapped from the writing and to start feeling like we're breathing down your neck.
Well, your word count per chapter seems resilient to your circumstances. Chapter length is as robust and satisfying as ever.
11760616
Yeah, right?
I cannot even imagine what the short-term effects of either will be, let alone the long term effects of both!
Am very intrigued, for sure.
Oh no... CELESTIA IS GONNA TURN INTO A SEX HAVER! THE HAG WIFE IS GONNA TURN INTO A SEX HAVER! NOOOOOO!!
I think this should be CINCH. It’s getting harder to find edits, LFOD, your writing is improving! And it already had me hooked from early chapters!
You have us spoiled with your productivity, don’t fret when you need extra time to put out writing of this caliber, we will be here waiting whenever you are ready, especially when you regularly keep us informed. I’m NOT saying you SHOULD, but taking the month of December off (from posting) to accommodate your move, settling in, the holidays, and to build a backlog would be understandable. The other writer I follow only posts monthly, so I know I (and the rest of your readers, I’d expect) would survive. That being said…
Your Celestia and Cure interactions are adorable! I almost don’t want Cure to grow up just so the two of them can keep their dynamic
11760707
I was expecting this chapter to be one where Cure reads the letters from his fan's and that could be a little Q&A with the comments being the letters Cure is Answering. But as always fabulous chap and well done so many reveals!
Without territorial expansion, one immediate way to balance this equation would be an Alicorn of Death. These developments of Cure’s are going to test Harmony’s limits, in terms of what changes are considered harmonious or in excess and a violation of natural order. I’m interested to see what sort of breaking point would prompt Harmony to go “Okay time to intervene.” Or not, that would be interesting too.
*of
Well that ship sank pretty fast, no cure x celestia I guess
11760871
You all romanticize death too much, it's just death, it's nothing special.
i absolutely love cure/celestia bonding time, and im really looking forward to the far, far, far chapter where luna is released and they get to meet
You know what? CURSE YOU LFOD, getting that chapter title song stuck in my head! (now who else has it stuck in their head that I’ve pointed it out?)
11760911
still in time cure is very young anyway, besides he will definitely become a model that every stud wants to achieve, in body, appearance and life, still hope.
This ship hasn't sunk yet, stay with me my friend.
Yo mate, loving the chapter. Question. We ever gonna get a time skip? I really want to see him as an adult or even teen
So basically a Tsuki basically antler bunnies that live underground around the Crystal Empire.
All she needs now are a dark set of shades.
Edit 11/28/2023:
Delightful chapter, and other comments here have better said what I would.
I'm assuming you are going to use the same spell that Twilight did during Discord's first appearance: the dispelling spell. Though, it kinda destroys the magical objects in question.
The next step in Cure's ageless 'cure' is literal immortality. But I think that is outside of his scope since it is more on the metaphysical side.
Cure telling Celestia to go outside, touch grass, and give weekly reports is a fun mirror of canon Celestia and Twilight's dynamic.
Good chapter. And it's cool, life happens, we don't mind if you miss a week or 2. We don't want to see you burn out.
Curr continues to complete a pony Astartes kit

That first point is probably why the clinical testing and trials will probably take decades. One simply does not bestow immortality upon the population without being 100% certain it works exactly as intended.
Cure is 9 and probably didn’t foresee everything with this one.
Thank you for the update.
Let's see what storms the flap of this butterfly further brings.
Honestly, I wouldn't have even noticed if you didn't say anything. You've been consistently hammering out these chapters, fairly long ones at that, while never dipping in the quality of your writing. There hasn't been a single chapter that I haven't enjoyed and didn't make me laugh at some point -- usually multiple times. While this would technically go against my interests as an avid reader of your work, life takes precedence above all else, so a break here and there is understood, for sure (even if it wasn't due to life and simply needing some time away from writing)
Now as for this chapter, it's insane how quick Cure has essentially developed a cure for aging. Equestria already loves Prince Serpentus, some near worshipping him, but once they get wind of this, a few statues scattered around is the least that Cure will have to endure.
By the time a certain purple book-loving horse comes around, I wouldn't be surprised if Equestria will be in a technological age over 500 years ahead of where we are now.
11760780
Makes you wonder how a baby's/child's brain self-programs itself, eh?
11760735
I feel like it's less what the lie was about, and more the idea that a relationship was predicated on a lie. I know I'd be pissed if for months or longer I was dating someone, had a life and routine and plans, and suddenly have it all ripped away and everything is different, and may have to change because I didn't know what to expect from a significant other.
11760585
Same! They're the primary reason I am totally fine without a time skip. I don't want to miss them.
11761005
I think a time skip should probably wait until he's started running or of things to implement. Like it'd be weird if we time skipped 10 years, and Equestria is suddenly a post-scarcity, space faring Star Trek society, or a biopunk dystopia, or at war with all the other nations who think they've become too powerful, or they're fighting all the ancient evils sealed away at the same time because Harmony is like "eh, they can probably handle it", or like all of the above somehow, any of which seem perfectly plausible to me at this point.
I think you underestimate the strength of entropy in biology a little. Looking at the immortality cure, there’s almost no magic involved at all; implying that a similar object could function in real life. However, creating biological immortality irl is not so simple. Otherwise, it’d be applied in real animals through evolution.
Consider:
* How does a virus recognize which cells are damaged? This is non-trivial, and why cancer is such a big issue. We have steps in place to catch this in our own bodies, and they’re just not enough
* How does the virus prevent itself from damage? This is non-trivial, as any damage to the virus could cause it to essentially become cancerous itself, and damage is unavoidable.
* How does the organ collect energy? This whole process requires energy to produce and upkeep, which may significantly increase the amount of food needed to be consumed
* New diseases. A likely outcome of this would be a new series of viruses or bacteria that use these as a new vector of attack. Imagine a bacteria that can trigger origin cell replication. Now, you’ve got a hyper-resilient infection. Imagine a virus that modifies the organ and changes the viruses it produces. This could make basically new forms of immuno-compromising diseases.
These points can also apply to many other inventions. What if an origin tree gets infected? If the origin cells it produces are all viralized, then anypony given them can end up a viral carrier for the disease. These products are all awesome initially, but nature adapts to new niches forming.
biggest issue if cure is able to stop aging/grant immortality is BIRTH controll, society stagnating and creatures trying to deal with memories.
For updates: I followed a long story that occasionally swaps from 3 posts per week to once per week so they can build up a backlog (though the chapters are much, much shorter...). I'd recommend something like that if you're worried about holding a schedule.
Change the schedule to an update every two weeks until you have a couple months of updates saved up, then go back to once every week.
11761675
Which is why Cure’s solution would probably take decades of testing.
I’m not saying he didn’t find the solution. He did. But as I’m pointing out now, he’s 9 years old. Even with the knowledge of a 60+ year old human retiree he doesn’t know everything.
Every point you brought up is probably something he didn’t foresee. So it should take a while for cure to perfect it while it is going through its clinical trials.
Seeing the little guy get frustrated with this as he grows up would probably be a good experience for the prince.
Cure: Banana!
11763130
Reading the author’s note indicates that they may not be aware of all the pitfalls of this kind of solution, which is why I bring up such specific points. This is a perfectly fine series of issues for the story to cover. I just want to make sure the author has the combined knowledge and thoughts about what can and perhaps should go wrong from as many readers as possible. With a situation like this, the writer is faced with the trouble of coming up with both the solutions and the problems- that is, anything he can think of, generally, so can his character. This often isn’t an issue in stories because there’s generally information asymmetry where the writer knows what’s going in in the background or knows the future where the character doesn’t. However, for a problem more technical in nature, where the asymmetry is actually inverted (canonically, cure at this point knows biology better than the author), it becomes nearly impossible for the author to have Cure make realistic mistakes. By providing outside context and possibilities as readers, we give the author more breathing room to allow Cure to make technical mistakes by re-creating that informational asymmetry.
