There have been several times that I think most authors would have ended a chapter that I didn't. I don't recall if it was in a comment or in an A/N, but I had previously said I don't like cliffhangers. I'll almost never use them. I could have ended the chapter when Cure reached over and turned off the lights in the back half of the train when the minotaurs were coming. I could have before the doors to the throne room opened. You're right, though; him being tackled by the foals upon his return is a not-really-cliffhanger stopping point, I suppose. A stop after him exploding would have been, though.
He didn't invent velcro because, offhand, I can't say exactly how it works. I don't want him to always have the answers.
There's been a lot of confusion about Celestia's vision regarding future alicorns.

Bingo.

I don't think this story is for you based on this and your other comment about the hands thing upsetting you. That's fine; there's no 'perfect story' for everyone. Just to warn you, though, I don't plan on delving into that a whole lot, but I also didn't plan on typing out three quarters of a million words in under a year of story time, so it will likely show up again. Given the story is rated M and is about a biomancer that screws with his eyes and brain in the first 80 or 90k, give or take, I believe all the warning signs are present.

I feel like maybe you missed the joke in the title and in the comment based on this comment about Pinkie Pie being the giver of a cream pie-ing. I can't say I recommend Googling the term without safe search on, especially at work, but for you innocent minds out there, there is an alternative meaning to the phrase.
Btw, Cure's staff wasn't destroyed. His comment about Ferric being upset is because his mark no longer matches the staff she made. The staff is fine, just no longer his cutie mark.
the princess’s private solar -- solarium?
Hehehehe
Loved this chapter to :)

I'm not 100% sure which is the correct term, tbh. I think they all may be accurate, but when I checked just a moment ago sunroom may be the most accurate word to use in the situation, at least as the room is described. Apparently the only real difference is how much is glass versus not, so... *shrug*
hold up, wasn't it explained when he first did it that the reason Cure has to make the "skin" pages from a living tree or himself was because he needed it to still be living to scan and store liek with other living things?
Ahh, I love long chapters! The more the better, especially of this great quality stuff!
11572728
He said he was unable to scan inorganic things, only living tissue. He dismissed the idea without even trying. In fact, looking back on the whole conversation one has to really wonder why he didn't at least try because the solution was, basically, to turn wood into a tablet. In the meantime he's scanned food, silk, even Ferric's insulated cover, none of which are any less organic than a piece of paper, and none of them are any longer "living".
It begs the question, when is something "organic" versus not. For dragons, minerals are used as organic material. He previously pointed out that enamel is nonorganic because it is, basically minerals compressed in a lattice.
Edit: Just to add on, Cure will not be getting any more powerups aside from those his alicornhood will bestow. The extent of the impact that this will have on the story will likely be "Cure scans the papers and moves on" rather than "Cure reads everything and moves on". After all, the only thing changing is removing the step of photocopying it prior to scanning.
Good catch, though. I think that was the Familia chapter when he got back from his grandsire's, so many, many words ago.
Is she talking about the death she figured out when they were talking about war, or the one from ascension?
I mean, having a schedule is good and all, but writing fanfiction is still just your hobby, I assume. You don't really have any obligation to us besides what you want to do for yourself. It's nice you're letting us know, though, so thanks!
awesome chapter
love cure and celestia interaction
Something that came to my mind last night was perhaps Brick and his team are perhaps a part of the SMILE agency. Just a theory i had
This is quite an enjoyable story. The beginning did. feel a little odd with nothing going wrong but I’m enjoying it.
I mean, Caelestia translates to "heavenly things", and Luna translates to "the moon", might as well go with Animantia for "living things"? :V
(Vita Plasmator is "life shaper" but it's two words and clunkier than Animantia. Vita for "life" is nice and efficient but Luna already has ownership of short names, no more shorties allowed!)
To be fair, while paper is made from trees, and parchment before it was made from scraped animal hides, ink isn’t necessarily biological in nature. Suspension fluid may be water or alcohol or something else entirely, but is mostly gone when it dries, and the pigment can be extracted from mineral sources, or from soot... and if something has been incinerated down to just elemental carbon residue, it’s possibly not biological enough to register on his talent anymore. So it might work with some books and not others, depending on the materials used.

Cure could just be scanning the scratches and dents in the paper tbh. Any writing source will leave behind an indent on whatever medium its written on, regardless of the toughness the medium has. Cure just needs to scan the organic medium. On that same note, I'd doubt he'd be able to directly scan a stone tablet with words etched in unless the etched in words were filled with organic ink/clay/whatever.
Thanks for the update! You've absolutely spoiled us with these novella-sized chapters, lol.
Celestia was so friggen cute in this chapter!! Totally trolled the Bluebloods.
Cure x Celly ftw. Was Heavy mackin on Ferric? Poor guy has the toughest competition out there.
Congratulations to Rising Pitch!! Who’s left unmarked? Dawn, Sapphire, Heavy, Glacial…?
Wind might be thinking about Cure after all this…
Thank you, author! Wonderful chapter, very fun, well worth the wait!!
thanks.
i love it.
11572668
Aaaahhhhh! Senpai noticed me (again)!!! It is nice that there’s a little back and forth conversation with an author who’s work I’m enjoying. I wonder if the other reader DID get the joke, but applied it to the idea of Schrodinger’s Pinkie Pie: simultaneously the most innocent and the most lewd, until observed, with all the double entendres available to her…
I just loved the way Cure shut down any meddling from the Bluebloods, “Yeah, I’m an earth pony, wanna fight about it?”
Others have mentioned it, but your Celestia is very well done, Sweet and smart and shrewed. Bravo, bravo
11572668
Says he needs a break, proceeds to post another long ass chapter lol
Excellent chapter. I did notice one small thing that was off.
I thought Cure was 9? Yet in this chapter, he's eight.
I really love the way you write Celestia, she really treats everypony like her kids.
11572895
That and he wasn't an alicorn before. Living things are made up of minerals and elements, which he can also affect... unless he is restricted in some capacity like life=magic and rock does not equal magic because its missing a couple of elements... if that makes sense.
11572895
Could also be squid ink. While not entirely common it was still used.
I just keep thinking that his dark personality would be like grandpa nurgle from 40k. He’d he absolutely terrifying and gruesome, but have the disposition of a loving grandfather.
LiveFreeOrDie i love your story.
Now that cure is an Alicorn i bet it would get harder to write about his life after the crowning ceremony for cure to be a prince. a few questions if you don't mind answering
1: Will you be using time skips more often and over longer periods of time.
2: What is your guide to writing stories.
3: Do you have a ending Planned for [Life finds a way] or are you winging it? If you are winging it good work man lol
4: Do you have any story ideas that you want to work on after [Life finds a way]?
I tried to not ask questions about the story itself like what does cure like to eat to avoid spoilers. thats why my questions may sound a bit odd i know you would explain or show them in story sooner or later.
Here's hoping Cure gets Celestia a proper massage covering ALL areas before they have to head home.
Also thought Cure would choose Ascleplius as his royal name.
i would have loved to see cure turn the princess into a puddle. but i also would bet that she has a team of the best massuses' equestrian has to offer on staff. she is the princess after all. and bluebloods (not so subtle) attempt at political shenanigans right off the bat, not even been an alicorn for a day and already random nobles are thinking about foisting their daughters on the poor colt. not even coronated yet, and he's only eight! for shame, for shame...

Hook and loop Velcro was invented by observing how seed burrs clung to fur and other materials, that one seems perfect for Cure to puzzle out at some point. In that same vein though I like how some of the uses of his talent are things he just missed and others point out to him. It's so great that you are able to write all of the characters to feel like intelligent independent and functioning people. There are so many stories where the side characters are just there to drive the plot and give the main character problems to solve for them.
With how well written this story is I've been curious, is this your first writing or do you have other works elsewhere? If so and you feel comfortable pointing them out I'd love to read more of your stories if they are out there.
You know, he could actually change their taste buds so that everything they eat tastes like manure, except actual manure, which would taste like ambrosia.
---------------------------------------
I said it before and I'll say it again, I think I can speak for everyone when I say, take your time. We love the world you're crafting immensely and a few weeks away won’t change that. If you do finish chapter 66 before 6/6 though, you're required by Pinkie law to release it on 6/6
Take care of yourself and safe travels.

That part with blue blood and his family that was funny
My favourite part about LFaW is the author's ability to surprise no one by once more writing a million word chapter.
Watch; I'm certain it'll happen.
11573366
Thanks! Fixed the typos. And grammar. I agree, some commas needed added in there.
11573363
That makes an enormous amount of sense. I remember digging those things out of my sweatpants once when I went paintballing. That suuuucked. This is the first story I have ever written. If you have any doubts about that, reread the first dozen chapters or so. I don't plan on writing anything after LFaW but, who knows?
11572998
I don't think I said I need a break. I'll simply be unavailable; or at least, I won't have sufficient availability to put the time into a chapter that I would want to so that the quality is there. As I've said several times, writing this story has been something I've been doing for my own entertainment.
11573008
Cure was born June 20th, 900 AB. He'll turn 9 the same day he's being crowned.
11573406
I didn't even realize that this chapter was longer than the 'Long Awaited Talk' one until after I hit publish.
Oops?
11573210
1: Will you be using time skips more often and over longer periods of time.
-- Yes, hopefully. I keep saying "timeskips incoming" then... well. I have solid plans for 3-4 majorish events before the end of the story year.
2: What is your guide to writing stories.
-- I'm pulling this all outta my ass as I go
3: Do you have a ending Planned for [Life finds a way] or are you winging it? If you are winging it good work man lol
-- Yes. We're a long ways off, again, I hope.
4: Do you have any story ideas that you want to work on after [Life finds a way]?
-- Not as of right now.
11573549
That's one Tartarus of a birthday present. Topping that next year is gonna be kinda hard.
Good chapter, much enjoyed
I am confused, it seems like Celestia knows good and darn well that he’s not from around here. “Do your parents know?” what is she asking about here? I did not think he had told her about coming from Earth?
11573597
I think he's let enough slip that she knows that 'something' is significantly different about him, but not what exactly.
“I beg your garden?! Puns are the highest fern of humor! Why, I laughed so hard I almost peeled myself!”
Fixed it for ya.
With Cure being such a smartass at times, it makes me wonder if Discord will be happy for more chaos or annoyed some "little alicorn" is horning in on his "job".
Personally, Wordsmith, I will miss all these long chapters when the time comes.
Hope you have a good break on your vacation then!
Awesome chapter! I always enjoy reading about Cure’s shenanigans
Perhaps Cure should use the law firm to research the laws that would apply to him as a prince. This way, he can avoid unexpected legal issues and potentially, if needed, negotiate some concessions with Celestia 🤔 In addition, he would get an informed and neutral opinion on the pros and cons.
Thanks for the update!
man your work is so engaging that i nearly lost ty time to go to my swiming leasons
11573648
pea'd like a pea, it makes sense.
this may just be me, but i cant find the part where Cure goes to the forest and jumps on the private's back.
what chapter was that in?
And that's how Cure turned a regular mare into a serial haggler. Vendors all over Equestria will hate him for this little trick!
11573903
That’ll be chapter 44; Weapons of Man. Pretty much right in the middle
11573090
Tbh, squid ink is semi-mineral. Also , our bones are unirganic, it's cells that create them are (kind of like coral). Not everything produced is proteins - term protein is reserved to chains of amino acids. Muscle fiber, wood fiber, hair, silk - are organically produced polymers, laced with some proteins. Organic, yes. Proteins, no.
I think, his talent is more meta than he defined before. He can design anything life-related.
11574318
I also feel like paper was discussed before in the story, and it was decided that because of intense processing it wasn't considered organic anymore. I don't feel like checking, but I think it was in the chapter they were discussing the whole skin writing thing
11574387
I would counter that Equestria is far less industrialized and much of their paper would be heavier and more yellowed/less bright than much of our chemically stripped, 20lb, 94 bright copy paper. Imagine some of the hand bound books from even a hundred years ago, not to mention Equestria doesn’t even know an extended periodic table, much less any sort of petroleum byproduct level chemistry. Perhaps Ed’s memories pushed paper into that ‘nonorganic’ category in Cure’s mind
Edit: looking back over chapters where Cure was scanning, he mentioned being unable to scan paper, without attempting to, in “Familia”, and paper was just never mentioned as part of his scanning in “Sharing is Caring” (in the Bostrot library with the unicorn siblings) or “Supply Run” (showing Emerald the scan plant). Admittedly, I’m not revisiting all the comments
And now I've finally managed to catch up. You know, there are very few stories I've enjoyed to the point of wishing I could forget them entirely so I could experience them for the first time all over again; you've managed to find a way onto that list. Incredible work as always. This one will be one of my forever favorites. Seriously though, it's hard to believe this is your first story; I've read stories of lesser quality from authors of multiple works, both amateur and professional.
11572721
The "official" difference between organic and inorganic in chemistry is, essentially, the presence or absence of hydrogen-carbon bonds in the molecule. As paper is mostly prepared cellulose, which is a chain of glucose, it's a carbohydrate, and thus organic.
