Take all the time you need with these, this story is absolutely worth the wait!
And he still haven't mention this issue with stallions and foal gender thingy. Gah! The mystery!
Nice!! Good thing for cure to know
I hope your IRL obligations are fun ones, like family stuff, (I was gonna say a cruise or camping, but not if you’re coming and going) and not chores, like getting sequestered for jury duty. You definitely had me on pins and needles after saying this chapter basically wrote itself and I have to say, it was worth the wait.
Why was Cure so upset about the incident report? Mrs. Hire was just doing her job, and there weren't even any disciplinary actions being discussed, just a consultation and having an incident report on file, which is fairly normal for most bureaucracies. Yeah, the complaint was stupid, but threatening to quit over it seems rather extreme.
Cure shouldn't have relented and signed that form, especially without it being modified.
It was a foolish showing of his strength and hence abilities that he shouldn't want to have in writing. It was in a way a confession to an inaccurate version of events. Really such a form should have a "but" section where one can rebut and/or explain actions.
I'd probably have been nearly as upset as Cure was, and would have required modification to sign it.
Take care dude. We can manage with a once a week update until you're able to do more. Thanks for letting us know instead of leaving us in the dark.
Now I am curious, was Cure's reaction to the complaint because he has an adult mind or because he is still a kid regardless? Or did he have another reason for his reaction?
Lastly, I've been pondering this for awhile, is Cure going to meet a pony with the talent opposite to his own? Manipulating the metaphysical that is. I've had a hunch that it's been hinted in the story here and there whenever Cure explains he can't do anything with the metaphysical side of pony biology. And when taking into account Cure is curious & studious to better understand it, it just bolsters my hunch.
Already half of what the Cure has done is enough to declare him a national hero, I think at the first opportunity, Trollestia cannot do otherwise. I can't wait for the whole color of high society to launch a honey attack on such a valuable character, it will be more fun than at Pinkie's party.
thanks

I agree. We can definitely manage with one upload per week, and even then it would be fine if you couldn't upload for a week or two.
I love this so much! Its awesome!
i love this story, and i love when stories go into detail about small stuff.
love cure not taking shit from the HR department
I'm not surprised Cure's reaction over the HR / CR thing is a point of controversy here.
There's obviously two ways you can look at it. First, he was a twat at the party and should have walked away. Walking away is a lot harder than you'd think, though. Ed wasn't a fighter, but he was a strong guy from a family that "handled" its business. The other side of the coin is that it is a petty, stupid issue to raise with someone who is barely an employee at all, especially one as irreplaceable as he is. Also, the incident was between foals, happened off the clock and off-premises, didn't escalate, and he already reimbursed whoever for the damage.
Everyone will have their own take on it, but if I was in Hire's position I would have looked long and hard for a reason to toss that complaint right out the window. His age alone is probably good enough given he's seven years short of adulthood. If push came to shove I certainly wouldn't bust it out in a meeting he called to show off a new thing. Praise publicly, criticize privately. HR 101 right there.
awesome chapter "behold the bacta tank tree...thingy"
i think cure for all his adult memory's still has the short fuse of a foal after all
the doc's reaction was priceless
good to hear you see writing this story as your entertainment, but don't stress yourself
Death to taxes!!!!!!!!
Always loving reading the new chapters, thanks for sticking with this. It’s been an amazingly detailed and well written story.
This Story is one of the things that keeps me going over, so hearing its gonna cut back on updates is sad.
That said, sorting out IRL stuff and taking it easy is MUCH more important
(Got dozens of dead stories cause author forced himself to keep going)
As for this chapter, the outburst was kinda sudden but it shows 2 things very well:
1. Cure very much knows how valuable he is and is not afraid to leverage it if something doesn't go his way
2. Even when trying to be humble, he subconsciously shows that he thinks himself above the protocol/law cause of his abilities which can easily hurt him later (will be interesting to see him get humbled later on)
T.L.D.R: love the story, take your time, doing amazing job, keep it up
11499270
I think he just was being childish, we need to remmeber he still a colt and can get emotional sometimes.
Another awesome chapter!
Sad to hear about the weekly release, glad to see the author taking care of themselves.
If I was Cure, I personally would have quit, then after Deed suggests changing stances, inform Dr. Care that I will volunteer when needed.
11499270
I agree a more calm person would simply add the details they think are missing from the report then sign it. But Cure doesn't have to tolerate such politics, so I can see why he would simply quit, he quits because he can.
11499274
I agree, I'm hoping that's just an oversight not made clear. Especially since Mrs. Hire had to ask if Cure threatened anyone. No need to have such written inaccurate reports on Cure.
>>LiveFreeOrDie
Normally these incident forms have space for additional details or a rebuttal space for Cure's opinion to be added. Did Cure decide the details were accurate enough or something else?
I wonder if Cure will take any further action with this.
I don't remember if I said before on this story, but I had the thought that you could probably cause a heart attack or a stroke with just levitation or telekinesis, or whatever you wanna call it.
It's good to see Cure's making friends that could help him if some malefactor puts Cure in hot water
11499437
You can definitely say that was a childish act, especially since he didn't need much to be convinced to change his stance. That shows he wasn't actually concerned about it and more likely just reacted.
But I feel Cure reaction was pretty reasonable, given he doesn't need to care for any inercompany politics, he has no reason not to quit. Being a valued pony he could join any other hospital organization.
Mrs. Hire can't be faulted for anything either, except perhaps her timing, it is her job to get Cure to sign the incident report at the end of the day. Still I feel an argument between two foals should not end with an incident report when no injurys or threats occurred.
I think am misunderstanding this, is cure accepting responsibility for starting the conflict?
11499307
Actually Celestia tends to avoid unmasking heroes. I mean look at the exploits of the main 6 ponies. They could have been on the podium many times, but instead they are mostly unknown to the average pony. It is only when they step outside their roles that they are more known. Fluttershy is more well known for her short modelling career than as an element.
Daring Do was the same way for a long time.
I don't know if there is something magical going on to protect the heroes of Equestria from being inundated with fans and paparazzi, but magical or not, they don't hit the level of exposure that celebrities have IRL.
11499529
it is quite possible that the hunt for famous personalities is not in the nature of a pony, at least it would be logical otherwise every 2nd would be very famous in something, except for some special cases, but there was no persecution there, but those who climbed the wrong way were tracked...
Thanks for the chapter! ^v^ honestly, I'd be happy even if you slowed down uploads to being twice a month, don't worry about your irl stuff slowing this down. I thought the tree was gonna be an artificial insemination thing
11499520
You're correct, which is why he tore it in half and threw it back at her. If Deed hadn't told him to sign it he would've walked right there. They're very lucky it wasn't his mom with him. She would have been the first one out the door, likely after some choice words. Vines probably would have left with him and tried to convince him to reach back out later.
Cure acting like a foal
Cure takes out a medical breakthrough from his pocket
Cure rants against taxes
Cure gets Dawn a job
whats not to love? great chapter as always, will be hard to read only one chapter a week but we all have real life to take care first
can't wait for the next one
I won't lie if say that it is my favorite story since I found it. :)
Great chapter. Like you said, the CR problem is a bit touchy, but it's a good enough resolution to what happened in the long run. Love the stem cell printer. Even if it is tree shaped, it's an amazing work of science and technology.
As for your A/N question, if you hang someone, and they start to suffocate, you haven't hung them properly. It's supposed to be a quick death, snapping at the neck. So, the only thing keeping a horse from being sent to the gallows is the fact that they don't really have a place for the rope to catch if you do it around the neck. It could probably just slip over the ears.
Whether it would work on a pony or not depends on the art style.
That right there is the dream of SOOOOOOO many people with shitty bosses/co-workers
--------------------
I know he's talking about the tree, but my mind went to him using the mirror pool. Just an army of Cures running around screaming "SCAN! HEAL! SCAN! HEAL!"
-------------------
Meanwhile, in Dr. Care's head: '40 thousand bits?! Just how much money are you making?! If only I had a daughter his age I could 'introduce' to him. No easy life for me I guess.'
------------------
Or you could use that fancy new Sending crystal he gave you.

Ah hell, this chapter really got under my skin and a long ass, angry and profanity laden rant is incoming because of it...
If I was Cure Wave and Ms. Hire tried to get me to sign that stupid ass form to accept responsibility for the incident; I would have told her hell to the no, that I wasn't signing anything. Then when my pops tried to strong arm me into signing that damned paper, I would have told both him and her to go screw a couple of cacti. Then go douche with a bunch of lime juice before walking out after quitting and leave them all there to try and figure out what to do with the fallout of the situation. The doctor really should have just shoved Ms. Hire out of her office, if she started getting so angry and combative like that; then told the Medical board about her unprofessional behavior and the incident with Cure and what really happened with that little idiot colt. Then seen if she still actually had a job after that.
You don't accept responsibility (or apologize either) for things you simply didn't do, and that asshole colt basically started the whole thing. By him deciding to be a giga-douche about it, when Cure was merely trying to ask politely if he could play a few friendly games with all of them. Cure honestly in a way de-escalated the situation and got him to back down, avoiding a potential physical/magical altercation, by him demonstrating to that colt exactly what he would have effectively been getting into if he started a fight with him. Cure also never actually physically hit or threatened anyone and he also already paid for the one thing he did end up breaking.
So there really should be little to no issue with how things turned out, seeing as how any sort of physical violence was thankfully avoided and no real threats were actually made. The only thing that REALLY got hurt was that little jerk-off colt's pride and self confidence, seeing as how he got owned by a younger one in front of what seemed like a little group of his fan-fillies. That and a single broken game which had already been promptly paid for by Cure and then was replaced.
I honestly would have just taken my plant to the good Doctor Crystal up in Canterlot and worked with her on it and the other plants, me doing that actually would have made more sense for me to do in my mind. Since it's the capital of Equestria after all, and the "Boss Lady" lives there and can personally look into and oversee that project much more easily personally if she wants, rather than having to merely ask for secondhand reports from others. That and the plants can potentially be replicated and distributed better from there to other hospitals also, and Celestia can if she wants also possibly help to oversee their distribution to hospitals in other cities as well.
I seriously did lose quite a lot of respect for Deed though, seeing as how he more or less took the pussy route of forcing his son to sign that dumbass paper and accept responsibility for the whole mess. Instead of him actually growing a damned pair and standing up for his son, especially when Cure was at worst only partially responsible for the entire incident. He and the two mares seem to keep on forgetting that Cure has a whole human lifetime's worth of previous aquired life experience prior to his current one (whatever that counts for anyway), possibly even more than any of their own and that he isn't just some stupid little kid.
I really would have put Deed on my blacklist after that little incident, though it may sound bad it basically just means me distancing myself from him and thinking thrice; before I ever even took anything he had to say into consideration again. At least until he can prove to me that he isn't going to be a wimp and try some kind of strong arming crap like that again with/on me, just to appease some quarreling mares.
Not to mention the local guard would have been put on my permanent shit list as well, and once you are on there you can never get off of it again. I would have absolutely refused to help all of them anymore in any way, after learning they snuck onto mine and my parent's property and more or less stole from all of us.
You just don't do that kind of crap to somebody who is helping you out in the way that Cure has been. If they were smart and really wanted some seeds to test, then they seriously should have just sit down with and asked as Cure (and his parents as well) would have been a bit hesitant but still willing to cooperate and give them some samples. Rather than them being total dumbasses and risk potentially burning a bridge with and losing such a valuable "resource" by stealing what could effectively be world changing things from them. Not to mention they might also possibly be pissing off someone who could maim or potentially even just outright kill basically any of them, in at least several very horrific and painful ways, with just a simple touch if he wanted to.
When ponies do incredibly stupid shit like that, it seriously makes me really question just how smart they truly are. If they had actually done that in some other fan fictions, all of the idiots who were involved would have either been seriously demoted and/or reprimanded by the "Big Horse" herself. As they were effectively playing with a sleeping Ursa Major by poking it with a foot long stick, who was going to be seriously pissed if they actually woke it up and looking to brutally murder whatever had awoken it. With her realizing that fact and she simply couldn't tolerate any such further incompetence with such a delicate situation, and that she had to act accordingly to discourage any other similar idiotic actions from anymore of her guards.
Eitber that or the MC would have caught them in the act and then beat all of their asses stupid (even more stupid than what they were before); or just brutally killed them all for those morons even daring to steal from them and called it a day.
Okay, rant over...
11499590
If I was Cure I would have avoided going anywhere with my "dad" for quite a while after that, especially if there was potentially any sort of business involved with that trip. As Deed effectively proved exactly just how useful he would be in such a situation: he would basically be absolutely worthless.
Then when both my mom and dam asked me why I was behaving differently, I'd tell them both exactly why and how much of a useless pussy my sire was when it counted and he should have been standing up for me and getting Ms. Hire to back the hell off. But instead of him doing that he more or less forced me to sign a paper saying I was accepting full responsibility for the incident.
It's pretty bad, but I really hope both of Deed's wives completely flip their shit on him and end up tearing him a new one. For him being such a pathetic little wimp and letting his son down like that, and that they don't trust him in the slightest to go out with Cure on any such trips like that anymore. Hell, I wouldn't even trust that idiot to go out with Cure to bring back some pecan pie.
Awesome chapter!
On a side note, yes a horse or pony can hang themselves. I've seen it done afew times.
Edit 2/7/2023:
Good chapter!
IMO Cure definitely over-reacted a bit with the conflict with CR but I kinda expected that since he's still supposed to be a child. It makes sense. If he were an adult, I would have expected him to at least remain calm and not shout, but again, child. He's shown quite a few things that he's still very child-like in character, despite the past memories thing. I don't think it's out of character at all for him.
I get the whole "pick your battles" thing but HR (from a real-world perspective) does have a duty to actually investigate those complaints (if they don't then they're not doing the job and opening up the company to a potential lawsuit). Now, given, it should have been done in a closed room with just the CR pony, Cure, and his guardian/parent, but otherwise the CR pony was fine. Those forms usually have the line "I acknowledge I received this counseling..." or something along those lines instead of "I accept responsibility for.." so as to avoid the whole blame-game issue.
This hasn't been that kind of story so far, but I could totally see that complaint form turning into a massive thing. If my understanding is right that by signing it he is accepting the narrative that he threatened the foals. In a world with nobles, politics and even just well meaning control freaks, someone would end up trying to use it against him. "See! He is dangerous, he admits it! If he threatens violence against a bunch of foals at a party how can we possibly let him run around free with his abilities. We have a responsibility to neutralize his abilities somehow before decides to create a super plague or army of monsters!" Bad noble! Put the stupid ball down! This isn't one of those stories.
Then again what Cure actually signed is a little bit vague. Hire described what the complaint contained but not really the details of what he signed. Something along the lines of "Yes, there was an incident, we talked about it, its resolved now." would make more sense than "Yes, everything in the complaint is true." For the former, Deed making him sign it could be seen as trying to teach Cure to take responsibility for his part in the argument. The latter case makes Deed's actions rather unsupportive with the complaint being grossly exaggerated. In either case like many others have said I'd probably have let that be the end of the meeting and walked out, probably with the intent to continue the volunteer work. It isn't the doctors fault and it isn't the patients fault, it isn't even really Hire's fault. I'd still be pissed and probably take the tree to other distribution channels, the princess did sort of indicate she wanted her people to go over new things for safety after all.
I am surprised that after the garden incident Cure is still making plants that can propagate. Especially with the whole 'she can take what she wants and you're lucky she even bothered to tell you' thing. Nothing I made after that would be able to reproduce on its own, much like Cure did with the oil plants he gave to the girls. Even with this being a philanthropic endeavor I think I'd rather spend a few hours or days making a whole bunch of seedlings or whatever instead of have it just make seeds. Granted, that might say more about me as a person than I'd like, but nobodies perfect. Environmentally it makes sense anyway. If there happened to be some major issue with the new plant for some reason it wouldn't get out of control. Although the vinegar trigger is a great idea to help cover that worry already.
Seriously though, everyone should be terrified of an eight year old that can create a plant like that over a weekend, especially if it actually works as advertised.
11499590
I'm still confused as to why Cure signed of on the blame, or am I still misunderstanding?
Why didn't Cure correct that responsibility factor or add any details regarding the fact he did not actually threaten anyone?
I get everything else, Deed suggesting to sign it and declare the narrative is accurate and that he's been consulted, but the "accepting responsibility for the conflict" bit, confounds me.
11499369
The other other side is that the entire written record shouldn't consist of a biased version of events signed by both sides. Cure is worried about assault but if he's going to ever face an actual threat in this story, which I doubt, his signature on this document is his weak spot.
11499254
Didn't he want to confide in Celestia first before talking to anypony else?
11499613
I understand Cure's anger at being painted as the bad guy in that report, I've been accused of throwing (didn't) a shoe sizer at a customer and since it's retail, the customer is always right. Doesn't matter if I had dropped it a half-foot onto the carpet as anyone would, Karen's gonna Karen. I'm really surprised the report is about kids though.
But, it's a different world, with different governments and societal rules.
11500265
i don't mind him being angry, he should be... but in the end, we know cure isn't an 8-year-old foal and he should know better. quitting a job because of an HR claim that he knows to be false even if the facts are correct should be a reason to quit a job, more so a life-saving job like he has.
we know cure has his own pressure points, one of them being taxes
11500195
His actions were unnecessarily terrifying. Sure, bullies were being mean. But this is like being insulted at a bar and smashing your glass into the table, obliterating both. It’s total overkill. It says he’s at fault because the level of escalation he applied was not appropriate. In fact, while the bullies committed no crimes aside from being an asshole, Cure in his temper actually did through the destruction of property that wasn’t his. Yes, he resolved it afterwards, but that doesn’t make what he did okay. His power scaling is so high that sometimes when angry he’s losing touch with reality in terms of just how terrifyingly powerful he is, and at other times, he does recognize it. He’s paranoid people will be scared of him because frankly they should be. He’s a good person but when he loses his temper, or decides that something is Right, you’d better stay the hell out of his way before he atomizes you with a touch.
He needs to learn to take moral, not just financial, responsibility for the damage he does when he fucks up, because financial damage is so trivial to him as to be irrelevant. I honestly think that this personal conflict is going to be one of the most important and interesting struggles in his story.
11500279
Mmm, a bit of a Superman dilemma? His best option would be to talk it over with a psychologist or go directly to somepony else who has the same issue... Celestia.
I’m a little surprised Cure didn’t start having panic attacks when she said, “National asset,” and start imagining international foal smuggling and espionage threats.
Hearts and Hooves should be up and coming! I wonder if any of them fillies will try to make a move.
11500322
Ya I think talking to Celestia would definitely help but proly only so far because Cure is not wired like she is. So professional help would proly go alot further.
Cause unironically I don't think Celestia is dealing with her powers in a healthy way either. At least for herself because to do what she does for a millennia would be maddening. At least I think so.
Ah, quick (if morbid) note on hanging;
A proper gallows and noose is set up so that, on the floor being dropped. the weight of the prisoner and the slide of the rope through tie of the noose result in the neck being broken instantly; a hypothetical painless death. A horse *absolutely* has sufficient body weight relative to their neck to accomplish this, assuming things are set up properly.
Strangulation via hanging is amateur hour stuff where either the noose is improperly tied, the drop isn't high enough, or a suicider just wraps something around their neck and kicks away a chair, utterly failing to engage the proper physics of a 'humane' hanging.
11499590
Sorry to be a bother but there are a few things i was wondering if you could clarify
In chapter 47
Was there no intended follow-up with them discovering he has a horn?
The other thing, am i right in thinking Cures Hybrid Mk II mitochondria are the alicorn ones he was working on with griffon too right?
And just to throw in a positive note with my story, i am absolutely loving how you've been putting out such consistently great chapters, i havent encountered a single one where i felt it was dragging on and its kept me engaged the whole time, truly rare to see on Fimfic these days
Thanks for the update!
I almost feel like cure is looking for a reason to have a Vendetta. It's been mentioned a lot almost like foreshadowing.
Hope the personal life stuff is going well, thanks for the updates!
