Honour's really phoning it in there. I guess she's keeping herself fresh and unevaluated in case there's an ambush but I thought the point was to go all out as a method of instruction.
10602746
She's not phoning it in on the effort department.
On the next episode of Everyday Life With Guardsmares:
Specialist Glamerspear asks what everyone has been wondering all this time! What are the skills of their secretive bat pony Sergeant? What secrets does she hide under her mysterious, dark cloak? And why does she seem so eager to skip over herself in training?
Will the reader's expectations be fulfilled, or is the next chapter holding a surprise like no other?

Chapter 69.
Nice.
nice chapter again lets see those jaws drop from EBs performance :D
1) Nice.
2) I love it when the Engineer goes into sciencey stuff. Wonder if he's also going to teach her to apply gyroscopic stabilization when using these new "rounds".
10602746
In previous chapters, she's been feeling rather unconfident about her abilities in comparison to the others of the quaternion; this is in part why she's taken more readily to driving, because she sees herself as average at best amidst a trio of excellent fighters.
Huh. I guess this technically means Lily isn't a mage, but an archer. Artemis is warrior, Honor a brawler, and I'm gonna guess Ebonshield is a rogue, the most glass-canon. Anon seems to be shaping up into a barbarian class (that is, until he gets the first gun made :P)
But I would lose my shit if she turned out to be a dark mage.
Keep up the good work!. I was finally able to "Binge", the last few chapters I missed and I'm enjoying every second of this.
10602823
Barbarians do not use shields, they tend to use a large club or mace only. Anon would be closer, in D&D terms, to a Fighter, although if he were able to para-virtualize magic that might put him closer to a Paladin.
Edit: Clarifying that while I now know they can use shields, they cannot use Tower Shields.
Oh, there is a LOT we could teach a conjuring launcher like Glamerspear. I mean, you may not be effective piercing bronze plate as it is, but if we can get the equivalent of a weak HEAT round, you'd basically ruin most infantry plate in a jiffy. It'd all depend on what you could come up with for a shaped charge.
Ebonshield: *exists*

Point of order even since 3rd edition d&d barbarians do in fact get shield proficiency and can equip all shields smaller than tower shields (which anon's qualifies within) and unlike clerics there have never been restrictions on edged weapons for barbarians, hell I ran several using two handed swords. The only thing that really puts him in fighter over barbarian class would be the heavy armor, as barbarians can only sport up to medium
The A-10 warthog's gun (The GAU-8 Avenger), or its later ancestors, sometimes use depleted uranium for the rounds. It self sharpens as it pierces, becoming extraordinarily sharp. Other ideas for this might include incendiary rounds or bolas. They might be a thing to look into, as they are more effective thrown weapons at even lower speeds.
Wonder if a gun can be virtualised by a narrowing tube of increasingly rapid spun air, along which the mass projectile is accelerated with a magical pulse triggering a spark in a small amount of lamp oil in the core air, or by collapsing the conic vortex for slingshot acceleration?
chapter 69, nice
Chapter Nice

But they can't use Tower Shields; Anon's shield may well fall into that type.
Hrm... Hey, Engineer! I think you missed a couple questions. "What's Lily's conjuring range?" and "What's Lily's maintaining range?"
Because the best defense against a charge is an obstacle. You wouldn't need to penetrate Artemis' armor, though that could be ideal, just manifest a weapon in the line of attack (charge) at a distance that can't easily be dodged and then let mass and momentum do the work for you. Especially for a flying opponent. A stalled flyer is a falling flyer, and then even non-damaging hits may be enough to keep them out of control. Because armor doesn't protect so well from a crash.
Which is honestly my main issue with Artemis' attack style: barring pegasus magic of some type, being thrown around inside her armor should be a serious issue. If for no other reason than things like her neck trying to dislocate or her rump trying to continue through her ribcage when her chest suffers Sudden Deceleration Syndrome. Plus, assuming she's at least somewhat slowed by impact and additional weight, that reduces her mobility when in the immediate vicinity of combat.
I predict a whirlwind of slashing.
10602973
From the description and context of the armour itself, it is a armoured large round shield in the Greek vein
I have been thinking about who is going to be Stellar 8 for two chapters already
They should request the March of Cambreadth from the musico attendants. Or maybe Hell on the Wabash.
Chapter 69 yet no lewd jokes? A missed classic opportunity

That did cross my mind, but I'm not an immature teen.
10603076
Considering the chapters have been written beforehand and that the way in which they were originally written was not really numbered and was mostly depending on how long the update was and how often they could be posted, there really was nothing out of the ordinary about it when it was first released.

What do you mean? Some Wicker ponies got a nice hard spear, heck Glamerspears took 2 at once!
Honor is feeling a bit more inadequate in this chapter it seems.
But...
While she may not be as specialized as the others in her group, she has a cool head during stressful encounters, and-by far the best benefit to the table in my opinion-Honor Bound has experience.
We saw her resourcefulness during that mass duel with Kilfeather's boy band. Honor was able to create a battle plan with limited time, resources, and information. Her years of service has allowed her to gain insight on things that are not so apparent at first glance.
I know this could be argued with Ebonshield, with her claiming to be older than Honor and thus more experience, but while our batpony has shown to have a wise head on her shoulders and be quite knowledgeable, she was not born an Equestrian and thus does not have a deeper understanding of Equestra's inner workings; militant or civilian. This is why I don't see Ebonshield as a replacement to Honor, despite having a higher ranking. Ebonshield is there to fulfill her purpose: to give a different perspective.
In the end, I believe Honor's role is to be the leader. By it's very nature, it is not going to be an easy job. But being in charge and leading is what Honor Bound can do, and do well.

Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome."

"Equestria doesn't have capability to work steel or tungsten yet, and we're ages away from doing anything with uranium, so I'm not sure how to get you an example to study, but I can certainly describe it and sketch it out, and then maybe you could try imagining it yourself."
Dear Celestia, Anon is trying to bring KEP rounds to the Equestrian military...
I wouldn't be surprised if the Engineer pulls a few tricks of his own. Heck, in High School I took fencing and archery. And (ha ha) martial arts, as is with all kids of my generation from elementary to high school.
(I'm a squishy lady now).
But hm... I swear that I think I know how Ebonshield is going to fight, but I have no idea how to explain it or it's region. Especially considering their armor. Rodelerro? I do know that historically Spanish fighters were really agile and had a particular flail for knives, and more 'agile/precise' bladework. (Fencing/sabre and the sort).
Yes! Bring on the PAIN!
Artemis: Better armor?!
Lily: What's a bullet?
Bound: ....Martial arts?
Ed: If I show you, I'll have to kill you!
So ready for the next chapter!!!

Nor am i yet... Classic opportunity

To sad...

*Brohoof* (^.^)/)'(\(^-^)

Depending on how well unicorns can get a round up to speed he could introduce the idea of KKWs ( Kinetic Kill Weapon) should be possible for a magic user to get a round up to a decent % of c. Yes fire and boys physics are scary as fuck once you hit high enough velocities.
So, only about 16 or 17 feet? Considering a hoof would only be about 3 or 4 inches.
10603981
In this story, despite pony hooves obviously not being physically the size of one “foot” in measurement terms, one “hoof” is exactly equal to one “foot”.
10603999
I'm aware. I'm just poking fun.
Chapter 69 wasted.
Is the arena director's name Manuel, by any chance?
Getting a soft and dense material as an example. Sounds like gold to me. After all, if you can just conjure it out of nothing, there's no reason to not use that. Might even be able to get a hold of platinum or iridium too.
10607039
Iridium? What's this, Stardew Valley?
10609363
Or SubTitans maybe?
10602853
How about the fact that much of D&D barbarian lore is based on the (mythology of) norse berserkers? Berserkers were often known as "shield biters" by those who faced them, thanks to part of the 'act' they put on, gnawing on the rim of their shields like feral beasts. In fact, there are several examples of surviving chess pieces of the era depicting this behavior.

Ooh, I sense a training montage!
Also, I'm picturing Eb's fighting to be something like this:
Eb: ¡Tengo un secreto, no soy zurda!
¿Si no estoy equivocado?
¡No, no: más rápido! ¡Rápido!
¡Tememe So, te atreves!
Sounds really awesome!
Thats the surroundings...
Hehe confidend...
Yeah, fighting with music. Best eher! Feel the Flow and let your enemy be your dancepartner!
Tartarus yeah!
Yes it is!
Wuhu, yeah! Panzerpegasus ftw!
Jupp, clearly someghing you have to do in a battery of gunner...
Note to self: avoid airspace above Glamerspear...
Oh wow... thats a lot of armor than!
Good for the Panzerpegasus ^^
Hehehe i bet that looks funny xD
Neat! A Sharp edge is a good edge
Tartarus yeah, und lighter too. Artemis would be mich more dangerous whit lighter armor and greater mobility...
Huehuehue thus wil be interesting ^^
For some reason I just find this funny.
Equestrian: "Music, please!"
Bat: "wtf did she just say?"
Apparently not.
... Or maybe he's just dumb.
I wonder if it's some taboo thing for a bat pony to train in the presense of Equestrians?
