And that wasn’t even her final form
Lily is about to maybe learn Sense Magic, Yay!
Perfect timing. Right on lunch break.
Why didn't she bring up the issue of manaburn and that it has a similar effect on the foals of pregnant unicorns who overuse their magics to that extent?

So, it's basically thaumic echolocation ?
10670869
I knew it had to be thaumic echolocation. He's a bat, after all! As blind as a bat!
As for these shadows, I'm surprised to learn that Ignacio isn't the one casting them. Is he performing a seance or something? Tapping into Nightmare Moon's power to conjure living shadows?
This should be interesting. My ongoing speculation goes roughly in the direction that Ignacio’s “Balladeer of Ghosts” title may actually be more literal than poetic and that he’s thus able to interact with and get assistance from, if not strictly the dear departed themselves, then at least some sorts of spirits that “regular” unicorn magic just plain doesn’t generally deal with and may not even have on its radar -- but whether or not that’s even on the same map as the actual truth remains to be seen.

Hey, look at that, more pl-PROGRESSION to Glamespear, let's see what happens then...now put that spears away and that speech to my ending please
The way he described, i see a mixture of echolocation AND a connection to 'raw' Magic. As how he 'acquired' such perception is another conspiracy story.
10670867
Oh my lord that was fantastic. (Not sarcastic: That was actually made pretty well) XD Artemis at the 2-minute mark had me laughing
I wouldn't say Echolocation, for that usually requires one to make sounds in order to measure the time of return and with that that get distance. What he does I'd approach more to magic vision than sound, although a blind stallion would have a real hard time describing it so as he's, well, blind.
This is how I see Lily and Ignacio now...

At what point in the series does this story take place, anyway? I’m guessing it’s some time between Seasons 1 and 2.

4mins of glory
I'm gonna go with that Ignatius can "see" mana flowing around him like Neo from the Matrix saw the coding near the end of that movie. And why do I get the feeling that the training arena is enchanted?
I figured this was clear from his interactions after Purity's first fight - he is the Balladeer of "Ghosts," referring to memories. He drew creatures of all types from Purity's mind, and gave to the sand their imprint, with which to form opponents. Perhaps with this he could even conjure what she subconsciously thinks Luna fights like, although severely lacking in power compared to the real thing. When the sand formed Anon, it was not that he saw the human and guessed how he might fight, but that Purity's memories had a human, and her own guesses of how he might fight; from this he instructed the sand to face her.
Also, I wonder if/when Lily is going to tell Ignacio her suspicions about mana-overloaded conception.

I'd equate it to being similar to Daredevil's ability. He doesn't create the sound, he just hears it, but at the same time he doesn't have to look in that direction to "sense" what is there. The only real difference being that Daredevil's "sight" is based on sound, which almost everything creates, while Ignacio's "sight" is based on the distortions of magic, which apparently Lord Anonymous has very little natural affinity for... or at least he hasn't absorbed that much of it, even in the time he has been in Equestria.
10671009
It's definitely sometime after the second season, given that Lily received the Order of the Ram for defending Canterlot during the changeling attack (Season Two finale), and that Luna's Nightmare Night episode was mentioned as being a past event in this chapter.
10670901
Calling upon the figurative shadows of someone's past in a more physical sense, ritualistically incarnating them in the blood-stained sand?
10671040
The training field is, I think, at least enchanted enough to protect the audience (hence our scout ping-ponging around off the deflection field)
10670836
I'm glad I'm not the only one to catch that.
10671055
Oh, right. I forgot about that.
10670867
The way Ignacio "sees" magic reminds me of Merlin's second sight. How he could see the flows of magic that are pervasive in all things. It also reminds me of how shamans talk about the flows of energy that they weave to heal and see things yet to happen.
My personal suggestion regarding a certain bats power is that he uses his "enemies" minds against them. He provides the magical power needed for the construct, the fighters minds provide the rest.
This would allow him to easily create an opponent without really knowing what he specifically created.
Calling it right now, all the Eclipse are Force sensitive, and Ignacio is using Farsight to see as well as using an unknown Force based technique for the sand ponies.
Imagine if the best warrior of the Eclipse has a Darksaber though. Maybe that warrior can be trained to deflect Unicorn bolts.
I am wondering if he is able to perceive the world though a magical heat vision, where obstacles emit magic and living beings emit more magic, but Anon being foreign to the world, he lacks magic and is 'colder', making harder to make out against the background
10670867
Oh my god, that was awesome! Would you consider attaching this to the description?
JotS? DON'T PANIC
10671209
I'll wait for a 'finished' version.
10670867
...why take away Bat? (I really did enjoy that , got a few good laughs out of me)
10670836
That is EXACTLY what I was thinking of and I was just about to post a picture of it.
So does that make the Meteors...
10670867
I love Sparks' armor. Probably should have resized her to 120%, though.
Reminds me of the concept of auras n shit. I wonder if anon could do magic if he got really good at tai chi or similar. Thinking about auras reminded me of Path Of Exile, and perhaps Anon could be their group's aurabot.
10670867
Dang that little cartoon was just too neat. I want some more of that.
This was a great chapter; one of the most interesting so far. I'm anxious to know what happens next, but it's not a "cliff hanger" as no one is in mortal danger... yet.
I really liked the interaction between the "Sorcerer" and Artemis and Lily. It was a most intriguing discussion and I'm looking forward to learning how he could make those figures fight so effectively without 'seeing' and creating a replica without having 'seen' the Royal Engineer. I love 'world building' and this was really excellent. I'm eager for the next installment.

10671247
Cool animation, got a ckick out of Sparks armored animation
I cant wait to hear about Anon and Honour's dealing with the bat head honcho
10671163
The Darksaber didn't work and blew up. Really, people tend to hate on Kevin J. Anderson for giving General Madine such an embarrassing end, but he wrote some of the most important parts of the timeline.
10671811
I don't even know who Kevin J Anderson is until you mentioned him. I was talking about canon Star Wars' Darksaber, which is still perfectly fine with Din Djarin.
I also seem to have gained 4 dislikes for some reason. People must've really don't like my theory or Star Wars in general.
10670836
Damn nice referance 👍
10670844
More like advanced sence magic
10670849
Yours or someone elses?
10670862
Very good question. Maybe next chapter? Or because only Unicorns are known to suffer Manaburn?
10670869
Cant be that simpel... Or maybe ... ... Huh... Neat!
10670939
Sounds/looks about right
10671009
Well... The Invasion was the last big even and it was mentioned 2 years past since her return. It fits the discribtions.
10671816
Yeah, I was talking about the true canon too.
I don't know what Din Djarin is. Was that from one of the pre-Thrawn short story compilations or Marvel comics?
10671825
From The Mandalorian. It's a Disney+ Series.
10670867
Beautyful satire
Metal Gear Solid reference?
That humor was brilliant. I hope for more
10671826
Nope. Not canon. The Holiday Special is more canon than that. Hell, the Supershadow Script was more canon than any of Disney's heretical filth.
10671828
Although I agree that the sequels are bad at story telling, Disney also released some great movies and tv series too. Rogue One is quite good imo and The Mandalorian as well. Clone Wars Season 7 is also under Disney yet it's universally praised.
10671828
Discounting the horribleness that is the Sequels (which Disney itself seems to be leaning towards decanonizing), The Mandalorian is actually decent skip the Prison Ship episode, though. It's not good at all. It doesn't hurt that the plot's MCU-esque extension is setting up for my absolute favorite expanded universe character of all.
10671830
Clone Wars went down the shitter by Season 3. They ruined Aurra Sing and Qymaen jai Sheelal by making them generic villainous buffoons for the scappy brat to outwit, instead of tragic, raging forces of nature. (Aurra Sing being outwitted by scrappy brat 11-year-old Allana Solo a century later was a totally different situation)
Inexplicably trying to retcon Asajj Ventress to be Dathomiri was going too far.
10670899
Remote access to Moon mana/magic i guess. On a Eclipse born. Might be why there bodys are so damaged. Alicorn bodys are special and i guess there magic normaly is to wild or potent for a mortal body.
Kinda like in Starwars the force can decay a body by overuse...
10670901
Dark magic or Alicorn magic via remote access would explain the damage on a normal mortals body
10670906
Well he told em the hearing part was just for understanding and it was actualy a white lie.
10670908
I dont quite hold out so long
10671015
Glorious satire?
10671040
Huh... Actual a nice example how one can see the world. Reminds me of Neo losing his eyes and see the energys around him.
10671047
One sound possibility I guess next chapter they get back on scene they might talk about it.
10671048
Yes but he told us that hearing it was just a example for how to describe something that cant be directly referanced. Still nice idea. Love the comment section for stuff like that ♡
10671057
One theory after the next. Comment section shines brightly ones more Might explain why its used in healing like one would with healing paste etc.
10671143
That certainly sounds like something that could be possible considering what Ignacio is shown to be able to do. It's certainly nice to see him act as a mentor for our main characters also.
10671832
Who's your favorite?
10671843

10671838
Oh well to each their own I guess. I do hope you can enjoy Disney's work some day.
