That Lieutenant's a waste of gravity, he's just lucky he's been put in charge of troops too dense to understand how useless he is.
Sparkshower making a showing. Dragon indeed! =D
10558266
Or the troops do know and are trying to get rid of him because he has a habit of making racist remarks
I've been enjoying this greatly, however I noticed in this and previous chapters that the tense switches between past and present on occasion, which is jarring to read.
I've been on a language binge these past few days, so here's hoping you use some truly unique languages as inspiration for some of the Equestrian species!
I'm crossing my fingers for Coptic!
Oh, and I love that Sparkshower is still thinking of approaching Featherhooves as a gryphon, even though Featherhooves has already corrected Sparkshower about being Equestrian...
10558302
gryphon is his species, nationality is equestrian...
That lieutenant is a dumbass. Leading a company of pupperinos sounds like a dream job!
10558297
My own eyes are kind of glazing over at some points, apologies. Can you point out where you mean in particular?
10558266
I wouldn’t put it entirely past even Privates Dilly and Snuffy to have figured that one out already and play dumber than they really are on grounds of “Hey, with that idiot in charge even we can get away with stuff!”. And they’d be right on the money, too...
10558318
Hey, wait a moment. I don't remember reading this in the original version. Could the editors be expanding into writers, or did TMFA rewrote some parts when I wasn't looking?
🤔
10558305
Well, yes, but Sparkshower's approach has been has been to engage Featherhooves as the standard gryphon nationality, whatever that may mean, while not really realizing that an Equestrian gryphon may very well react more like Sparkshower's preconceptions of "Pony."
It's a mix of assumptions about species/nationality intermingling.
10558163
And that is why I shouldn’t write posts immediately upon waking.
10558341
That's one of my changes. I've been removing the inappropriate salutes throughout the story, but I thought it would be funnier here if the Diamond Dogs kept doing it wrong.
10558335
10558289
I'm really not sure how "Joke's on you. I was merely pretending to be retarded!" is a good strategy for yourself or everyone else to keep in any organization whatsoever, regardless of how bad your superior might be.
Either way, even the perceptive and good-hearted Sparkshower couldn't help but notice to herself that those Diamond Dogs were a horseshoe short of a full set, especially considering they don't have any hooves to wear horseshoes on.
I must say the level of military detail is wonderful in this story
Damn it... How many chapters until we get Bismarck on his show and see what becomes of it...
Nice chapter. Damn! This mixed military is rather a research experiment than a actualy working military branch. At least this will help Equestria if they ever need to judge a enemy from another race and the tactics to defeat em.
I really hope Anon gets a decent armor...
I find it kind of odd that some of this quaternion haven't been promoted. I mean one has a medal of honor from saving hundreds of ponies from changelings. Another speaks fluent griffonese, and is a heavy armored pegasus... That these are simply specialists seems very weird to me.
10558380
Mh. Well, I do think even if not out of necessity it wouldn't be out-of-character for Sparkshower to salute fellow soldiers out of respect and as a formal greeting as she did at the start of the story.
10558431
>agonize over change for hours to try and keep things in the same spirit and flavor of the original text
>nobody likes it
cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/661749298500730881/662663377323032586/confident_bab.png
Not gonna lie, private Dilly is so gosh dang adorable. Fetch da stick ya adorable doggo.
10558452
Oh, It's not that I don't like it as much as I don't consider it a very necessary change. Maybe even TMFAT will prefer this more accurate use of salutes by the Specialist. Don't worry about it too much.
10558422
Well, maybe there's something dark spot to their record that hasn't been revealed in the story that's keeping them from getting promoted by their superiors?
Or maybe they do are late for a promotion and only now are people taking notice to their hidden talents? Who knows. The only way to discover it for sure is to keep reading.
Snuffy and Dilly are too precious with their shenanigans...kinda reminds me of the Orkz but less maniacal
Member of the Valkiries eh? My foreshadowing senses are tingling!
10558393
Well, as for me, I never claimed that they were necessarily geniuses either (unless perhaps it’s in the mold of Wile E. Coyote). Just perhaps not quite as dumb as they’re acting...
...and, I suppose I may be stereotyping there a bit, but I figured that even a fairly dim diamond dog would have a minimum set of instincts needed to function in a pack -- even if for any given dog that may on occasion only amount to figuring out quickly enough when goofing off and being lazy while the alpha’s back is turned is reasonably “safe”.
10558318
Uh, sure, lemme find them again...
'Finally, he lets out an awkward laugh.'
'He flinged one forehoof' This is past tense, but should be 'flung'- 'flinged' isn't a word, though this is admittedly one of those weird cases of English not conforming to its own rules.
'and the Colonel leans forward in her chair,'
'the Colonel looks annoyed at his interruption.'
'Lieutenant-Colonel Percheron looks over Artemis’ shoulder'
...I think that's all of them in this chapter?
Those diamond dog guards were worth a good laugh.
Considering who he seems to be based on Ill be surprised if Lieutenant Bertie doesn't cause some huge disaster, a single aunt can only do so much.
Oh no.
They got a Bertie.
If theyre not careful, Nemo is going to end up a Jeeves. What with all the Frying Tonight?
Havent seen any Zebra yet, or are they out training the Tatzlewyrms?
10558518
Thanks! Fixed!
10558474
Wouldn't anything like that also stop them from being in the VIP corps?
10558422
Neither Sparkshower nor Glamerspear, for all their talents and achievements, have actually served in the Royal Guard for long enough to be eligible for promotion to NCO ranks.
10558469
It turns out I done goofed on Gate Guard protocol; I've switched things back to read the same as the original text.
"Featherhooves" sounds like the itchiest thing imaginable. It also sounds like the Equestrian equivalent of "twinkle toes".
10558982
"take your lumps like a man private twinkle toes"
- Soldier from TF2
I feel bad for the diamond dogs. They were doing their best.
10559096
10559098
Blame da Lootenant...
Diamond Dogs are canines and socially should thrive in military life. They require a clear chain of command in the pack to function. His refusal to promote has left them all as Omegas in the pack. They don't even know who is in charge when he isn't around...
10559153
During WWII, the enlisted-men of the US military had a couple of choice names for men like him, one of the more polite ones was, Ninety Day Wonders.
...Gives you an idea what they thought of their wet behind the ears 2nd Lieutenants.
10558534
They might not be competent dogs, but at least they're good dogs.
Damn, fucked it up.
I must say, you write orkish very fluently.
10559116
Well never let it be said that I passed up an opportunity at knowledge. What then would be the proper term for the man who would teach the art of the sword to his clientele?
Honestly I would love a story about sparkshower post VIP detail in this regiment
Going to go out on a limb and guess that barring a truly life changing experience, lieutenant Woodhouse is unlikely to be officer of much renown...unless Darwin Awards exist in Equestria.
10558452
This story to the picture is quite entertaining.
Nice you have use of it. It fits the chapter.
10558492
Pinkie sence human edition? I dig it
10558515
Sound about right. Unless they go into more detail i guess we can take it as truth.
10558535
He was almost kicked out... Perhaps he needs to work on his basics?
10558544
That... Sound actualy pretty awesome
10558594
Yep. Violeta just stated that only highly trained Soldiers normaly used for VIP service. Exceptions are
Pony who buy themself into military ranks.
Perhaps they dont have enough time spend in there military like idk maybe eatch 5 years you get one promotion or stuff
10559096
Priceless
10558484
That’s exactly how Diamond Dog magic works, they can’t actually dig through rock, but they can because they think they can, and no one who has seen it thinks to tell them otherwise, since they obviously can dig through rock.
10559342
With Discord around, it is a good bet they do. He probably holds an annual awards ceremony and everything.
10559538
nice referece hahaha...needz moar dakka
