Well now, it seems matters have gone well.
I'm so glad this demonstration went well, let's hope Anon's conversation with the princesses is full of praise and good news too.
That was a good reaction from the crowd. I wonder what the Princesses have to say.
And here I was worried that it had been sabotaged while they were under the mountain.
Poor Luna. The only thing worse than waking up early is staying up late.
Awesome chapter
Succesful test past successfully.
Now comes the tricky bit of Celestia explaining the reason for lack of advancement is keeping all races at least content with natural abilities, given multiple apex predator races being beaten by dinner?
Brilliant successful demo. That men just become invaluable to Equestria
"Second to None?" Absolutely kino pick.
There was more brass at this demo than in Anon's wagon. Surprised three princesses and the military command didn't shake any of anon's quaternion.
Anon the Great Business VIP Mode ON
SWEET NECTAR OF THE MORNING GOD(COFFE) ON
...THEY KNOW, oh boy, i'm nervous about how's gonna go...
Another great chapter, I'm anxious to see where it goes from here!
I can never think of the Bradley without also thinking of this:
Let's hope the same fate does not happen to the Whirlwind.
Quite the packed demonstration that was. Many VIPs present.
I wonder what Celestia could calling the group aside for?
wow... that was so well writen i was feeling like i was there ^^
oh boi. Honour will be in resents of both princesses at the same time!

So that's how that shitcan came to be?
10709350
Kind of, sort of, but not exactly. There's some truth to it, but it doesn't give the right impression of the Why behind evolving requirements. The success of the Bradley in combat shows that the revisions were well warranted and the final vehicle was one of the most effective combatants in its time.
10709350
Lmao no, Pentagon Wars is a farce. It's a comedy, which is OK, but lots of people take it as authoritative, which is hilariously isn't. The main character who is presented as this rational straight man is a sea of morons is actually a part of this ludicrous cult called The Reformers who have just pants-on-head ideas about military technology. Top hits include getting rid of all aircraft with radars and selling every tank in the inventory to build 1950s designs. It's really, really funny.
The bradley had issues, but the issues it had are basically none of the ones brought up in Pentagon Wars.
10709312
probably because of the fact he IS supposed to show off his bat pony guard
I am surprised nobody has made mention of the presence of Shining Armor amongst the demo's attendees, or how it seems he was promoted to major before (or maybe after) his retirement from the Guard.
On the other hand, I am curious as to what readers think will follow up next with the Princesses wanting to talk to Anon, and the resolution of this 'arc', of sorts.

10709357
I knew it's a parody, but it's interesting to hear that it was considered one of the best IFVs at the time, considering my 1 minute search says the US military has been trying to get rid of the damn things for quite some time now.
Also, the plot you described for the movies sounds like some genius's Hearts of Iron 4 strategies. In fact, I distinctly recall watching several videos were the person playing as Germany did that exact thing; completely abandon the airforce in favor of making shitty tanks.
The axis lost those games.
10709363
The main problem they're ditching it for is that it can't withstand mines, but, to be fair to the Bradley, no flat-bottomed vehicle of the era can. You're not going to do much better in a BMP-3 or anything else less than one of the Israeli mega-APCs.
10709363
It makes sense in context; 20 years of counter-insurgency and the evolution and proliferation of ATGMs have made the Bradley obsolete.
10709360
Since I'm using modern ranks, having Shining Armor be in charge of the palace defences as a mere "Captain" didn't make sense. The position should instead be at least a Major. Therefore I came up with the idea that he really is a Major, but that as the commander of the Household Division in charge of palace defences, anyone in that position is afforded the ceremonial title of "The Captain of the Guard"
“Second to none!”
Lol I was thinking about that Bradley video for nearly this whole chapter. That you linked it at the end is outstanding.
10709301
Why wouldn’t you want the whirlwind to share the Bradley’s fate? Disliked though it may have been by many of its operators, it has still by most metrics been a highly successful combat platform of its generation. Not an awful fate.
10709357
Your phraseology sounds familiar. Are you paraphrasing something? But, yea. Imagine believing a Hollywood comedy based on a book written by an infuriating ex officer with an obvious axe to grind.
Huzzah! Glorious success I think!
Wonder what's next for them. And Vi is such a good hardworking mare.
Also I wonder if Luna has any thoughts about "Blackspear" or not.
10709142
Horses are known to have killed tigers 1v1 in history.
Who is the real threat?
http://www.lrgaf.org/deadly_equines.htm
10709406
Which gives me the amusing thought that Canterlot is handled by the navy. If the world floods Canterlot may be used as a flotation device. No matter the rank the person in charge of the ship is referred to as captain.
10709312
Was she the one who asked for the demonstration before? It might be a debriefing.
10709363
They've been trying to ditch it because they have a boner for wheeled vehicles right now. Which is cool and all, except the Styker being a raging dumpster fire by all the accounts of my friends that lost their Bradleys for Strykers.
I wouldn't say the Bradley is obsolete, but it's starting to show it's age and the Army knows this with it's shift away from COIN back to conventional operations. It's why us in the Field Artillery world are getting the new shinies in the form of the 109A7.
this chapter and demomonstration was awesome, and i liked the ideo of the bradley. shows the inspiration ^^
Why do I get the feeling that they're going to have to use the Whirlwind in actual combat in the near future?
10709563
I thought the Captain of a ship was refered to as God?
10709921
That's Ivanova.
Am I the only one who's feeling slightly apprehensive about the on coming meeting?
Go team, go!

Isn't Bradley a massive "hangar queen"? I've heard it takes insane amount of manhours just to keep it running
Also, the core criticism of the Pentagon Wars seems to be valid: what exactly is the point of the thing? Back in the day they might have not known better, but now we know that line of sight guided missiles are so much worse than MBT cannon shell they are basically suicidal.
It doesn't carry many troops and is giant, not-so-survivable box
What function is it supposed to fulfill, outside of imperialistic occupation?
10710821
I don't know where you've heard those rumors, but the ones I've spent most of my career around needed less manhours than the M109s and M1068s in our battalion to maintain.
And the point of it is an infantry fighting vehicle, you know... like a BMP. You have the M2, whose job is to taxi infantry dismounts and provide a massive force multiplier against opposing infantry, hard points, and light vehicles with the autocannon as well as screen them from enemy armor using ATGMs. And then there's the M3 reconnaissance model. And lastly is the BFIST for artillery spotting. The Bradley is literally a BMP but better, it's a vehicle meant not to be incredibly good at one specific mission set like a tank but fulfill multiple roles well enough that you don't need to burden your logistics chain with half a dozen different yet more highly specialized vehicles that may not even do a better job.
As for the invalidity of LOS guided missiles? I'm not sure where you get that idea from, but tanks have been getting fucked up by missiles a lot more than by cannons. Even in Desert Storm at 73 Easting, the M3 Bradley outscored the vaunted Abrams, and only took three losses from enemy fire (the other 17 were from friendly fire from the Abrams supporting them). Furthermore with missiles, you can mount a TOW launcher on just about any vehicle to give it the capability to kill a tank (see: Great Toyota War). Whereas a cannon needs a dedicated platform to carry it. So logistically speaking, the TOW is a more efficient anti-tank weapon than a tank cannon. And a case in point against the cannon, look at all the failed light tanks the Army didn't adopt as well as the dumpster fire Stryker MGS.
Just stop believing Pentagon Wars when it comes to any serious discussion about the Bradley. The movie is a comedy based on a book written by a total fucking retard, the kind of retard that wanted the US to ditch any kind of technological superiority for literal hordes of expendable Ersatz weaponry. He tried to drown the Bradley and sabotage its development so hard he got investigated by Congress and forced into retirement.
Well done :)
I have to ask, has anyone else thought that an additional unicorn crew member to either tag out with the current gunner in case they need to rest, or to act as a shield caster for the vehicle to deflect incoming fire would be a good idea? Just curious if it's just me. Can't wait for the next installment of 'Tech Wars'... err, i mean 'Pimp your carriage'... umm, no that's not right, oh ya! 'Everyday Life With Guardmares!'

Or a version of it's design.
War brings about innovation, but innovation makes war worse. And without peace, innovation becomes stagnant.
It's a sad fact that we discover good advancements in technology that will eventually be used for nefarious ends.
Isn't it three of them since at that time Ebonshield hadn't joined the quaternion and he only had three guards?
10710821
Imperialistic occupation,really?
I'll keep this civil since you clearly have no service experience and are obviously basing your statement on heavily biased materials you've no doubt read online,I would also like to give you a little of my own background,I am a retired military veteran with a total of 24 years service between the U.S. Army and the Army National guard, nearly all of which were spent with Infantry companies.
During my time in uniform I have not only witnessed The M-2 in action in the Nations of Kosovo,Iraq and Afghanistan in real combat scenarios, but also give it credit for helping to protect and even save the lives of my fellow service personnel, like any vehicle or weapons system it has it's flaws but is,for the most part,a solid and reliable system.
Just finished binge reading this over the course of 3 days, and I've got to say, you've done a really amazing job here! the character and world building is top notch, and you've done a really good job getting me invested in the lives of a very diverse set of characters. I really love how you're handling Anon's awkwardness, misunderstandings, and difficulty assimilating without making it the central focus of the story. Keep up the amazing work!
10709314
uuuhm,... you got it faster than me... xD
10712577
Out of curiosity, which Spanish dialect are you using specifically for the batponies?
10712587
Castilian with quirks borrowed from other dialects for other characters
10712605
Interesting! I had assumed you used a south american dialect. A very good choice indeed. European Spanish is very rich, what with it living so close to other beautiful languages like Portuguese and French. It gives more freedom for the quirks you mention, indeed.
10703498
Maybe, but considering it was called out as a specific VIP ancient tradition rather than 'everyday thing we do all the time everywhere', I'm going to assume that's not the case, though.
I’d like to imagine Celestia having one day a year where she just screams cutting insults at any who cross her path. Randomly decided each year so no one can be fully prepared for it.
Why do i wanna see something similar to this but with a Sherman tank and with the US Artillery Field March playing along with it?
