I would not know. I have more important things to be doing then inspecting unused ceiling fixtures.
That reaction seemed a bit over the top... it realy has been nothing but an inconvenience for him from what I've seen so far... It was becuase he had guards that we was stopped for the MXP games, it's because he has guards that he now has to get pushed into following all these unspoken and un-tought rules of their society while he was getting on fine before by just ignoring the stupid protocals. I would be angry if i had all that extra nonsense thrown at me without being consulted fist or brought up to speed on what it all actually means and tutored on all these silly rules. He has certainly taken all the extra hassle better than I would.
Really what purpose do they have other than ornamentation and what good have they done so far? None as far as I can see.

It certainly was an over the top reaction, and Bound immediately started kicking herself over it. What prompted her response, I wonder...?
Great end to a drinking night. Unexpected but very welcome.
The hell is wrong with Honor? That was very out of character... Than again because she actualy cares for his savety? Still she sounded very different from her usual self
This tantrum come out of nowere. Very puzzling.

THIS. THIS. If this were me, I'd be bloody FURIOUS with Corporal Honour Bound. "Hey, I never asked for or wanted you and your damn quaternion of Guardsmares, nor did I ask for these utterly stupid unspoken rules to be dumped on me when I don't know and quite frankly don't care for them! And as for the Don't Ask Don't Tell stuff concerning the Batponies, that's all bullshit, too; they're ponies of Equestria just like you are; pull your heads out of your plots! Useless mares acting like little more then teenaged fillies and drunken sots; I see you as little more than stable animals playing at being civilized! Now GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!"
It was ANON who enabled the Guardsmares to win against Kilfeather -- and then he did more to put a stop to the pegasus then they ever did, "Stop treating me as if I'm your highschool chum/stop treating my mares as if they're your toys." Pets and stable animals at best, an annoyance and inconvenience at worst.

At face value, I would say it was due to the drinks from last night; Honor doesn't seem to be in her right mind. But, in the magical land of these ponies, the possibility of some sort of magic at work here can't be ruled out.
Whether the answer be simple, complex, or both, we don't really have enough information to say for sure.
This is the Royal Ingenieur:
Minding his own bussness. Until the universe decided to take him for a ride... Sooo... How will be cope? I think he basicly drowned himself in work to run away from himself. But ones that work is done or he will exaused himself body his mind will come back with a sledgehammer to knock. I forsee a major mental breakdown.
Anyway... The hell just caused Honorbound to explode like that? I just dont get it:
- interessting and actualy hard working VIP
- cares for his VIP guards detail
- got her a ticket to the grand galooping gala
- give her a day of to better understand her team
( professional and personal )
it's almost bad. Your subordinates don't have to order you. Don't wait for the good life any longer. Especially if they wet you like a pissing kitten. And then the question is, are they his subordinates? Or is it not? If not, then we go to Celestia and refuse such a gift or ask to replace it with another group. And if subordinates, then we establish the correct discipline in the army and kick in the ass of the soldier who decided to yell at the officer. Well, this is the only logical thing in my opinion in such a situation.

Angerpone!

It certainly wasn't a hangover combined with feelings of inadequacy channeled into religious zealotry XD
Well, I'm having a hard time to see with who to side, in one hand yeah a bit dangerous various strangers in your room where a spy or an evil pony could place a curse, or a trap or a drug on his meal. (although yeah from his perspective, it can be an honest mistake he doesn't know anything)
On the other…she just sucker punch him with a reminder that he is the only of his species in the planet, he doesn't have a home to go back, and the home is currently in is not or ever was really his home so chances are high, that he is in shock or having a very severe breakdown or a wave of depression induce by home sickness…and a sense of alienation from everything around him.
Heck I will not be surprise if he request a temporal time off, and dismiss of his guards so he can think if he should move on and get a humble simple house in the woods so he can stop 'munching' off the princesses like a teenager refusing to move out, and be reminded that he will never go back home. (That one Celestia will have words with Honour if it happens, if she was viewing him as a sort of a son or a close confident that love to have around.)
Overall apologies must be issue and lessons be taught because Honour keep bringing a good point he doesn't know anything about customs so either bring a fifth pony to teach him or at least give him tips (or maybe Luna herself teach him about all that) or take it easy on the poor guy who is still learning.
And sorry to say it but Honor can't escape scoot free this time, this is a serious issue. She down right open a very sensitive and big scar in Anon, if he doesn't get mad at her he isn't human, and if he doesn't get depress or shock or both. Then he simple doesn't have a soul. Humans have emotions too. And this is not something that can be brush off, having a cool head or not.
…plus I think any effort or build up Ebonshield had with Anon and the option of companionship has officially been demolish, so congrats! Now it back to square -1, why -1? Before he was indifferent and friendly, now he would need to vent frustration and have time to think, before phantom the idea, and that could potentially take a while.
I have a feeling Honour Bound and alcohol aren't a good combination.
The VIP guards are supposed to be on 24 hour rotation.
They were having a drinking party.
The Royal engineer got work done.
Drunk guard only had passive hangover, cure, not treatment for any excess alcohol affecting comprehension and behaviour.
Is that metal chamber a water boiler, or using it as a vaccuum chamber? Theres several things needed for opeing up new regions of science, a vaccuum was very important?
10551569
After she shit Honorbound just pulled? He would be like:
She better somehow fix it... I dont see how
And your 100% correct
10551586
Come now, it's not like she just made Anon kill his own father.
10551574
Right? So sexy and yet so dignified. Like velvet.
Ok usually don't comment all that much. Very much enjoy the story and no complaints or comments there. But, was that an Anne of Green Gables reference there cause if so.... Kudos to you.
10551581
Technically regardless of the circumstances, theres a reason why there are armed guards that flow or just outright stare at staff or 3rd party help when they're entering restricted places, and the *personal office* of one of her most trusted advisors and engineers, that is currently involved in a case or trial, definitely counts as a "I'm going to have Security stare and check names and what the heck you're doing here."
10551586
Yeah exactly, I get that did a mistake but what she did, exactly calling him alien, guest and 'this isn't you home'…well I can't phantom a worse insult. She basically call him the 'other' the 'outsider' the freak of another world that will never fit. Boy I hope you hoof taste good because she just swallow it whole
10551592
We'll meet her some time later, but I think you'd find Aghdashloo to be an excellent choice for her.
Maybe, just possibly, it's not a good idea to go wafting off magical LSD farts with a 24 hour effect at everyone you meet.
It is an inconvenience, one born of archaic pomp and circumstance and self importance that has no place in the new modern society. But at the same time his job is modernize the industry and not in fact usher in a new world order in accordance with his sensibilities.
I know for a fact that I would hate it with passion and if anyone told me that I can't have someone in a room with me without their personal supervision, I would tell them to stand in a corner looking at it crosseyed for the rest of their shift.
10551589
Je, I see what you did there, but yeah she did something pretty bad. He is almost a refugee and she just call him 'outsider' THAT can really hurt
10551569
Por que no los dos?
They're both in the wrong. Honour for the outburst, Anon for being willfully naive and willfully ignorant. Honour certainly could have handled that better, but she was recovering from a night of drinking and was hopped up on magical princess religious spirit juice so it made sense that she was on edge.
Anon on the other hand have no excuses at this point. He has been told about the dangers and social offenses caused by not having his guard around, he actively chose to disregard them AND speak ill about the "inconvenient" circumstances of having a person guard. Anon has this odd notion of an inherent innocence to ponies and cannot bring himself to believing that a pony might do him or others actual harm. He sincerely does not believe he is in any danger whatsoever, despite his social status and all the feathers he has been ruffling. If he doesn't throw out these BS preconceived notions he's going to get someone hurt, or even killed.
10551619
Yep definitely both parties need to apologies, and make amends, like grown ups. And hey they are reasonable so at the very least things will not get out of proportion right?
10551568
Those are all factors, but there is one that I think your all forgetting, remember the Familia? Those fuckers are in Canterlot and capable of stuff that other ponies would believe are made up, do you really want to confront those fuckers without armed back up? No? That's why the guards are supposed to be there.
Even if it's not the Familia the maybe the fact that this is the same world that spawned psychos like Chrysalis and Sombra should clue you in on just what could possible go wrong in that world so yeah Honor Bound is going to have issue with a breach of protocol like that because that protocol exists for a reason.
For fucks sake, Honour.
10551632
While the threat is real, it felt like Honour Bound felt more offended by (and focused more on) the hierarchical/social side of things. I imagine these hangups are part of why she has the name she does.
10551589
But only because Anon was transported alone to Equestria
But seriously, its a messed up situation and he seems to drown himself in work to forget about it...
Anon has dealt with princesses, and hot-shot adversaries like at the bridge. Honor Bound blowing up on him won't throw him into tears. It will make him think though, and probably ask some questions at levels higher than his quartet of guardponies. It will also make him wonder about ponies and alcohol.
I almost wonder sometimes if he isn't under some kind of calming influence from the princesses, or if that is how Equestria's magical field affects him.
if we began to look at Anon's guilt, then send him professional guards. Provide him finally with a good etiquette consultant and let this consultant do his job and the guards do theirs. And then his "professional" security only thinks about sex or about a career. And Honor is so principled that she abandoned the guarded object (left her post) and, regretting only her career, went after another guard. She left the guarded post. But he teaches others the rules of protection and in the end only thinks about his career. It is said in her charter that she can do whatever she wants at the post by her nerves?) As a former lieutenant of the army guard, I can say. that this is at least a guardhouse.
Ok, cuz I think many folks are having a tough time stepping back out of their own comfort zones and seeing things from a different perspective... The whole idea of guards for the Royal Engineer are not there for him the human. They are there to protect the station of the Royal Engineer, who just so happens to be the human. The station of the Royal Engineer is an extension of their Royal Highnesses'. The human has not bothered to understand just how important the station he occupies is, nor the semi-religious position in society. He understands that he is an adviser to their Majesties', but not what that means to the whole of the county. By disregarding the honor of the guards gifted to him, he dishonors the whole county. Keep in mind, he is an alien. He is the other. He is trying to change the ponies <for the better we understand>. He, simply by acting like a modern times person, is spitting on all the long held beliefs and traditions of a semi religious folk. They honor their princesses as near-deities. These deities choose to honor an office with some of their chosen own. It is not up to the person in the office to abuse said gift, he did accept them. It is his duty to learn and understand why he received them and what to do with them that is socially acceptable.
That said, Honor pushed the bitch button hard...
thumbs.gfycat.com/InferiorNecessaryAnkolewatusi-max-1mb.gif
Seeing as his guards are directly above him it seems dumb that he doesn't have a pull cord attached to a bell up there.
10551719
Damn! Didnt viewed it from that point...
This is the most emotionally invested I've been in any story on this site.
10551791
Anon and the readers be like:
Some expect him to react like that:
Other like that:
What ever will come next will be...
*pause for dramatic build up*
Huuuge
that cute pony just went boom xD
gives anon and us some nice stuff to thiunk about
10551719
While Anon definitely deserved a reprimand for brushing off Equestrian customs like he did But I think Corporal Bound went way overboard with it.
Anon, Anon, Anon, we do not simply ignore matters of noble propriety. It is impolite, and reflects poorly on you, on anyone unlucky enough to suffer your presence, anyone you've had dealings with, anyone you've had contention with, and particularly anyone who has spoken well of you.
When we go out in public we observe Custom. We maintain our grooming, we wear appropriate clothing, we engage in civil conversation, and we ensure that we respect the honors granted us by our superiors.
Thus, if we are granted bodyguards in recognizance of our honorable duty, we use them, in honor of our duty.
Though I will admit, the lesson could be conveyed in ways other than a half-hungover diatribe.
10551619
Willfully naive and willfully ignorant when: you can never go home again, is the sole individual of your own kind, a literal alien in the place you are in and has not been taught the rules and traditions of the country/world you are in by anyone? On top of that, he is human, they are ponies, both are mortal species and never making mistakes is mathematically impossible by that definition!
Putting so much blame on him is unfair, even if the blame does partially belong to him. After having proven his "worth" to the Princesses as an engineer and advisor of said field, they rightfully thought to make use of his talents while offering friendship to him, but has made the mistake of NOT teaching him anything about what his title, responsibilities and what having royal bodyguards means culturally and socially. Bound did have it right that she is not the one that's supposed to teach these things to him but exploding like that was just plain wrong.
Being told a few tidbits about the truth and the risks involved is not the same as being taught the traditions (pointless or not) and rules in full. Until the guards brought it up to him, no one had even mentioned what it really meant to have Royal Guards specifically guarding him.
This leaves me with only two conclusions: Celestia knew about these things and is being an inconsiderate troll, or she is in this universe an incompetent ruler when it comes to these kind of things.
10551953
There is a third option: the Princesses, as Sovereigns, command that their will be done in the land, and it is up to the ponies acting in their name, as representatives of Their Majesties, to carry them out to the best of their abilities or as they see fit. This can get complicated and messy, especially where the interests of the entrenched nobility get involved.
10551953
I have to strongly disagree, mainly because I said "willfully" - as in he is actively choosing not to learn. He's been the royal engineer for close to a year (9+ months, if I remember correctly), and it's hinted he's been in that world for much longer (as he knew ponies outside of the palace, and was referred to the princesses by a pony). How does one work a job for almost a year without knowing or understanding ones responsibilities? I get that no one has gone out of their way to explain much, but Anon hasn't made much of an effort to do anything outside of following through on his plans on industrialization. And the few times where ponies HAVE explained to him what is expected, he's ignored it. Or he's forgotten it, which means to him it's probably not that important, or that he didn't take them seriously.
Either way, it's willful ignorance. You can only claim that he's lost and alone for so long, honestly. At some point he has to take responsibility for his own acclimation and education to/of this world. He's been there for a LONG time now, it's not like he was dropped in Equestria last week. And that is exactly what my problem with Anon is, he has this skewed vision of what he thinks ponies are. He believes he already knows what's up and is therefor not going out of his way to ask questions, as he doesn't believe there are more questions to ask. And when things are explained to him he's like "oh what confusing cute ponies haha adorable :D" and don't take them seriously, except when they throw curveballs at him like Honours outburst, or Ebon's making moves at him. I honestly and seriously don't believe he even saw them as sexual creatures before Ebon was asking which one he was going to bed.
Surely she has to realize that almost any government job will be an inconvenience to somebody else on a frequent basis.
10552036
She's totally right tho; Anon has a protection detail for a reason. It doesn't matter if it's inconvenient; it's there to keep him safe. And as a military bodyguard, she has every right to chew him out over this. What Anon needs, is someone to really sit him down and tell him this is how things work.
10551956
So... how it was historically?
10552080
Exactly so; there's a broad tendency to ascribe malice or incompetence as a binary choice to bad situations, where the one being blamed was never directly involved in carrying things out to begin with. Princess Luna's apology serves as an interesting and direct exception to this, with Honour's request for a culturally familiar pony being directly overridden by Her Highness' own desires and efforts to improve relations between batponies and Equestrians.
I thought the reason Celestia gave him a guard squad so he could make friends or find love. She certainly had an ulterior motive, from the way she was acting.
10552065
She's right, but it's not her place to call him to task on it like that. This is a matter of formal expectations and social norms and she broke them as much as he did, which is worse because she knew better.
Whoa ... mega bitch moment!
