Twilight Sparkle's experimental interplanetary drive has malfunctioned, stranding Starlight Glimmer, Spitfire, Cherry Berry, a changeling and a dragon on a hostile planet in another universe. With limited food supplies, very little magic, no communications with home, and no way to leave the planet, they must survive until somepony rescues them.
Fortunately they crashed right next door to another creature with the exact same problem- a creature named Mark Watney.
They're going to science the buck out of everything- and do whatever it takes to survive Mars and get everybody home.

When Sweetie sees a griffon carrying a pony, and then sees the griffon drop the pony she manages to save his life with her burgeoning magic. The results of which may change Ponyville and all Equestria forever.
Set after season 4 with the exception that Scootaloo was adopted by Fluttershy in season 4. If you want to read how that happens read Ponies Are Animals Too. Knowledge of the story other than Scoots is adopted by Fluttershy is not necessary to understand this story.

I've been running from town to town trying to escape the hate that's been following me since I was small. Any friends that I've had have left me when they learn who I really am. I've been traveling around Equestria with my younger sister Bright Skies. She's all I have left now. I've been rejected and hated in every town I've gone to, but I don't blame them. If I knew that there was somepony in my town that was a monster I would probably hate them too. I'm about to go to a new town maybe it will be different, but I don't expect any such luck. Nopony has ever accepted me or even tried to. I hope I can at least stay here for a while before I have to leave for a new town again.

Written for the griffin-themed flashfic event on Equestria Daily. Thematically influenced by the short 2010 film Sintel. Teen because griffins have pottymouths. Rated just in case, though an average page of YouTube comments is probably worse.
