I'll say it for you: Finally, an update!
Nice chapter. I do admit that some things seem... far fetched to me in the story, but it's still a great story. I am still wondering what's going on with Spike tho. I've got a feeling things are really going to turn out bad for him.
I know this is pure irony, considering how much I've complained about Nondis' lack of a spine, but seeing the character suddenly grow three sets of balls and 40 IQ points over the course of barely two chapters is... a bit jarring, to put it lightly. Going from being incapable of so much as saying no to his girlfriend to shouting at royalty and seriously considering a bloody coup against the goverment within less than a week of in-story time is bordering on the unbelievable. He certainly wasn't sharp enough to come to the conclusion that this whole "conspiracy" is moronic and that nobody could survive being god-empress of a nation for a thousand years while being as gormless as this matter makes Celestia appear to be before, either.
...although I'll admit the latter may also be because, until now, the setting genuinely seemed to run on that kind of cartoon logic. You've got some serious tone shift going on there, and it's feeling a bit sudden.
5727916 i guess he finally got his eyes fully open to the fact that equestria is not the perfect world he initially believed, and decided to take out the kiddy gloves and go at it the human way
What a bloody good update it is <33
YEAH! FIGHT! FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO LIVE!
5727916
When we are pushed to a certain point, we tend to just snap and let ourselves go. Instead of resorting to reason, we unleash what's in our hearts, what's on our minds, and even attack others. Ultimately, the character himself even had a bit of a 'wow-that-was-me?' moment in the chapter. He admits that his snapping at Cadance was a bit ballsy, even by his own standards.
In short, Nondis is now discovering his mental limits.
And plus you'd wanna retaliate if you found out that had power over you had intentions of killing you.
5728022
No doubt, but there's only so much that kind of thing can do for you. Five weeks at pony boot camp couldn't beat the pushover out of him, but a petty spat with his girlfriend is all it takes to apparently turn into Rambo and I just find myself not buying it anymore. It's just too out of character. For good or for bad, you have thoroughly established what kind of person Nondis is, and this isn't it.
Mmmmm, you beautiful son of a bitch! Armed coup d'etat? Hell fucking yes... But seeing as candy princess has other ideas, Political coup d'etat FTW! Oh man I can't wait, I want to see some c-span, law & order, judge Judy level political drama. Can 10k+ years of human society hold any secret power plays that will give them the edge, or our hero have to fight tooth and claw through to political mire that is Pony government. As our Nation is less than 250 years old we might not hold a candle to the 1k+ years that Equestria has. But consider where we come from, before we has America, we came from all over the world, from Europe to Asia, from Africa to India. Thousands of years of fighting political Bullshit, it what we humans do. What Americans do, a whole population of disgruntled, oppressed, impoverished, displaced, malcontents who fought the system in one ways shape or form to varying degrees of success. I'm sure with time and forethought our hero can bring the weight of humanity down on this political shit stye.
What would a college dropout middle son know about any of that, though?
5728051 Actually, I have not given full characterization to Nondis, not yet anyhow.
And yes, it does take a bit of a spat with someone to make you change your social outlook on things. It could be with a family member, a friend, a co-worker, and even a relationship partner. It doesn't have to be this humongous fight where you throw things at one another, it could be something as small as a difference in opinion.
And in the case of Nondis getting the brunt from Twilight, it made him realize that he was letting himself get ran-down too much. Despite undergoing 10 weeks of training because of a ridiculous law, he feels that the relationship could fall completely apart due to several issues. He has been lied to about her trusting him, she has shown herself to be somewhat controlling over him, the times he tries to cover for her ends up backfiring, being blamed for 'not caring enough', the speed of how things have progressed, etc. Now add in the stress of battle, politicians wanting to send you up a creek, and being placed in charge of royal security...
A total of about eleven weeks of hell on earth, you'd snap too.
5728051
I have to disagree with you there, if his training was designed to make him a loyal subject of Equestria why wouldn't he be. It was the fact that his Fiancé was hurt as a direct result of something he wanted, and there was nothing he could do about it. Men have gone on killing sprees for less, that feeling of powerlessness while a loved one is suffering is a very strong motivator.
SillyAnon PM'd me and explained some things, so I my concerns there have been addressed. I suppose it might just be that we have a different kind of life experience there. I've spent enough time around actual honest-to-goodness violently disturbed people to know from experience how someone behaves in the lead-up to "snapping," which is never nearly as sudden as people tend to think. With the main character giving first-person insight into his mental state, it should have been obvious, and I guess all those things I've come to recognize are just what I'm missing here.
5728211
I would not charecterize his *snap* as sudden, while he has been jovial and friendly pressure has been building on him from the beginning of the fic. Every time someone just shrugs off something it doesn't always go away. It buildz and builds. Then there was to signs, preceeding the break up he was arguing with Twilight. Then after the heart ache he felt with AJ and her family his nerves seemed frayed. Then Cadence started pushing her buttons, anew emotional outburst should have been expected.
Row row fight the powah!
Well if Heart Butt's plan fails, there's always the option of purging the nobility.
It's time to kick some inbred "nobel" ass, there will be vengance for all the headaches those dung piles have caused the princesses throu all those years.
Alright 'noble' tumors...
time to die...
Yet another excellent chapter.^^ Stinks that it came on so late at night. XD Had to finish reading it this mornin'.^_^
Oh, and loved how it seemed like AJ is now interested in him too. XD
Oh, and did some thinking. Wonder if Maud and her sisters would show up after learning that he's now 'free' sort to speak. XD Had some theories in regards to them to grant them more personality, actually.
In an official book, it is learned that Pinkie's mom and dad are Cloudy Quartz and Igneous Rock respectively(but, that's official names. Nicknames are another matter, eh?), and her other two sisters are known as Limestone Pie(a.k.a. Blinky, the one with yellow eyes) and Marble Pie(a.k.a. Inky). Got to see some of the parents personalities, but the siblings got nearly no limelight in that book. Their parents did all the talkin'. So, did some thinkin'...
For my thoughts, it involves a few things.
For one, Golden Delicious in Pinkie Apple Pie showed that the Pinkie Weirdness is inheritted. Pinkie's parents showed no signs of this, BUT, Cloudy Quartz seemed to be an awfully hesitant yet kindly considerate sort, so it could stand to reason that SHE was the one of the family the weirdness came from, but was too scared of being labelled a freak to showcase it.
As for the sisters... we could consider both how Maud was along with their nicknames for this, eh?
For Maud, Pinkie said that she was going to an academy, so she could be considered the 'Twilight' of the siblings. In fact, her studying COULD explain how she wasn't there at the start of Pinkie's first party, but was there long enough to take part in the family photo.
Maud also seemed to have not as many weird special abilities as Pinkie, but this seemed to be compensated by making the weirdness she DID have all the stronger. Such as super speed and super strength.
For Limestone(Blinky), during Pinkie's first party, you can somewhat get her personality based on dancing style. She was dancing gangnam style, so you could sort of view her as the 'Vinyl Scratch' of the siblings, despite the lesser emotions of the rocky siblings.
As for special ability, we could use her nickname for that. 'Blinky' could represent her having heightened versions of Pinkie's mobility. Her ability to appear from anywhere, and the ability to stand anywhere(like from the ceiling), only more potent than Pinkie's. It'd certainly explain the nickname, cause if you blinked, you'd miss her. XD
Then, for Marble(Inky), she was dancing with an almost sophisticated look in her eye as she danced with her father, so she could be the 'Octavia' of the family.
As for Marble's abilities, consider 'Ink'. Ink can spread all over, being thin or thick based on how it's used, and is often used the write, which can be used to record past and future. As such, I could see her as not only having Pinkie's foresight to a heightened degree, but also have her body control skills. Like how Pinkie stretched her legs to pull everypony in for group hugs, or how her body shifts and changes during her 'doozies'.
Though, that's just my theories on the siblings, so as to make them each more unique. XD
Where the heck's Luna in all this? I can't imagine she likes this law any more than any of the other Princesses do. Maybe more so since it didn't exist before her banishment.
5729444
...seriously, where is she? A thousand years of timeout and an attitude of divine wrath to match should mean she's already kicking everyone's face in over this. No way she'd take being shoved around like that by a bunch of jumped-up nobodies sitting down.
5732309
My hope is that, since she's obviously not going medieval on the nobles, she has some bat-pony special somepony that she's screwing every night while giving a middle feather to a dartboard with a copy of that law on it.
5732309
You know...it occurs to me that, assuming Luna is portrayed as she is in the show, and especially in the comics, that if the nobles actually tried to enforce this thing with her...it would end badly for them.
Luna wouldn't be the type to roll over to their whims like Celestia has, and has made Twilight do. They take away her title, and she'd probably just go "Yay, no more court!" and take off into the Everfree to go monster hunting. They try to mutilate her, even 'just' a clipping like Twilight, and she'd probably jam the clippers up the surgeon's plot.
I would see the only way to even attempt to make her comply would be to make Celestia do it...and really, I almost hope they try. She might actually grow a spine and put a hoof down if it's Luna being targeted by this atrocity. Though considering she won't even go against it for Twilight's sake, it's hard to say.
Its time for me to kill baby seals until next update bye!!!
5759335 No reference, Just all that was going through my head at that scene...
5775518 Hah!
Okay.
I have to ask though. When Cadence said Twilight had her wings clipped, did that mean she no longer has wings?
5816830
Nope. Her wings getting clipped means her primaries, the feathers essential for flight, were clipped so she couldn't fly. People do it to birds to keep them as pets.
6036424
Can primaries grow back?
I remember somewhere that they could
Seriously, antiseptic doesn't hurt that bad. I get cut and splinters all the time. Cut the splinters out with a knife and douse with 99% isopropyl alcohol.
6774464
With birds, yes. Not one hundred percent sure about ponies. Probably the same, though.
6979154
To get rid of splinters I never use a knife. I either use tweezers, or i pick the dead skin around it and slip it out.
This Cedance really wins the most valuable "OOC" character reward available.
I have never seen a Cadence out of character like that, aside from parodies (dark/funny) or clop fics.
And I hate her so much, because here she pretends to be the great planner "who's got this", while completely ignoring the storm that is already closing in to them, with how she handled Spike, which was of course completely wrong.
As much as I despise the silly Nondis, he was right this one time when he said "She doesn't deserve her 'princess of love title' and can fuck off", simply because it's true.
She caused Spike to go "Godzilla round two", because she understood jack shit about him.
Just one time I would like to hear a "What have I done?" question out of her, instead of Rarity.
9043983
Technically Spike was on exactly that way before she gave him her piece of mind. The problem is she got distracted at the last moment, so it didn't stick and Spike made wrong conclusion. He doesn't deserve Rarity not because someone is, but because nobody deserve anyone. A few more minutes and they likely would talk this out, but we can't solve stupid drama this easy, can we?
It's the [cureent] year. Modernity, progress blablabla. He's been to college alright.
It seems Anon is confused. What is his motive to throw a revolution exactly? To plow Twilight some more without fully dedicating himself to her in the sanctity of marriage? If he is so ready for her love, why can't he just wait out the 6 months to marry Twilight, and deal with the nobles, who obviously have some leverage over Celestia, after he becomes Prince?
I’m guessing they didn’t have rubber cement to got all the splinters at once.
