It has been several months since the disappearance of Twilight Sparkle..

One night, after watching her sister raise the Moon and set the heavens alight, Princess Celestia begins to bed down for the night, only to be interrupted by portal forming in her room. From out of the portal comes none other than Twilight Sparkle, garbed in strange armor.

Princess Celestia, along with Luna, Cadence, and Shining Armor, are overjoyed by the Element of Magic's return, but are justifiably curious as to where she had been and what she had been doing. And so, Twilight begins her tale. A tale of survival against impossible odds. A tale of a people fighting for the most basic right of all sentient beings. The right to exist.

It's been a long time since I've last updated this story, mostly because, looking back, I'm not really happy with the way a lot of the chapters turned out. It's been almost four years since I first started, and though I didn't put out many chapters, I really enjoyed writing it. Looking back, I see lots of room for improvement, and I set this fic up for more than I feel I can realistically expect to fulfill. Nevertheless I can't thank my readers enough for the amount of support and interest they've shown my first real fanfic. I may try to pick this up again sometime in the future, but if I do decide to continue the story, it'll be a full reboot. Thanks again, everyone, and sorry for the bad news. After being rudely awoken from Cryo-sleep, John-117 finds that the Forward Unto Dawn has been sucked into a gravity well, causing it to fall towards an unknown planet. In the crash, he is separated from Cortana and falls alone into the Everfree forest. In addition to this new complication, old memories from a scarred and tragic past haunt his dreams, putting his remaining sanity on edge.

However, he has little time to ponder these thoughts, as he encounters the planet's... peculiar... inhabitants.

But as Nyx's magical abilities begin to grow out of her control, the pair quickly earn the attention and ire of some powerful ponies who do not have Nyx's best interests in-mind.

During the night, the Elements of Harmony mysteriously vanish, and Princess Celestia enlists the aid of their bearers to find them. Twilight is forced to choose between her duties to her princess and her duties to her daughter. In the process, she discovers a web of conspiracy surrounding her daughter that reaches back a thousand years into Equestrian history. Will Twilight be prepared to face the things she learns along her journey's path: about Nyx, about Celestia, about Equestria, about the Elements...
