My guess is that she was the first one to disappear.

A million bits say the portal no longer exists. It never existed in fact. Hence why Twilight doesn't respond. She's not getting any of these.
So it's not just people disappearing, the world is deteriorating.

This sounds disturbingly similar to a false hydra situation. Horrifying indeed.
Alright, I'm going to make a plot twist prediction that would make M. Night Shyamalan both proud and envious.
Equestria doesn't exist in this story. The portal doesn't exist Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the ponies don't exist. None of them ever existed. What we're seeing is nothing more than Sunset Shimmer slowly coming out of a delusion, brought on by either substance abuse, mental illness, or brain damage. She imagined the entire world of Equestria Girls as a coping mechanism for the sad, lonely life she's really been living, devoid of friends or love. So strong were these delusions that she honestly believed them herself, even as they're vanishing right in front of her.
That, or she's slowly waking up from a coma, and what she finds when she awakens is going to make her want to go right back to that long, comforting dream.

I actually really like this one. There's a lot of moments throughout Equestria Girls where you think "all of this could just be a huge drug trip". First one that comes to mind is Sunset's Backstage Pass. Was it really a time loop, or was she just on something cuz festival?
