Equestria and the Griffon Republic have been at war since before it even was a Republic. The griffons have always been on the losing side of that war. Commander Astrid has been sent to Canterlot under the guise of having peace talks, but her mission isn't what it appears to be. Honor demands blood and sacrifice, and honor is the only thing her people have left.

Written for a certain Equestria Daily contest, with the challenge of writing about ponies from the perspective of a non-pony.

Warning: Contains significantly less EXPLOSIONS than my usual stories. I wanted to try doing something a bit more calm and slice of life than usual.

A terrible new day rises when a tragedy, foreseen only by Celestia but preventable by none, occurs right in the middle of Canterlot, turning Twilight Sparkle's world upside-down. Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship, goes to Las Pegasus to attend the Great Equestrian Bake-Off. Being Twilight Sparkle, she can't have a pleasant trip, no. She finds herself in a convoluted mess of tribalism, government mandated fairness, a dying element of earth pony culture, and what just might be the remnants of the Great Equestrian Dream, a unity that might have never existed.

Left with no other choice, Twilight decides it is time to smash the system, forgetting that she is the system. Somehow, Twilight manages to lead a revolt against her own authority.

Chrysalis has a small purple filly named Twilight in her castle, and it looks as if she's going to be adopting her for a long while. Can Twilight's love change her, or even the entire hive?

Only time will tell, though Chrysalis is determined that she could never find something so fuzzy and energetic in any way cute.
