yay an update :3
going steady with Celly. I like that as it has the most long term potential.
Yea! An update!
*squee*
hey look
the story that never ends
Damn Celestia...
Also, Poor Fluttershy, she didn't deserve this at all.
Good Shit, team. Get ready for the next one.
Celestia's reactions implies she knows a lot more about how the pool works than Twilight does, who in "canon" vaporized them without a second thought. Wonder if there was a way to make the mirror pool be less screwy.
4829489 Actually, she kinda does. She doesn't deserve to be able to push a human around and try and "fix" them. She deserved the most cruel punishment possible for even thinking of doing something like that.
4829496 I think it was a mercy. At least they got to do something fun before they met their demise. The show's Pinkies had to stare at a wall for an hour before their doom, that must have been horrible for them to suffer through.
4829524 I thought, by the way it was described here, that Celestia used a different spell that killed them rather than just return their soul/essence to the pool. They wouldn't have to be trapped by the mirror anymore, and yet Celestia still beat herself up over it just like anyone would over killing even if it was for the best. Then again, that may just be me trying to justify Celestia's actions, but it's still a nice thought at least.
Great chapter!
4829558 I kind of forgot she did that, been while. I thought it was just Pinkie and Rarity that fucked him up.
4829572 Woah, wait a minute... are you saying that Fluttershy of all ponies raped him? That doesn't seem like something she would do, but then... I'll have to look out for it the next read-through. Thanks, mate!
No, kidding aside, all I was saying was that that was the reason that Fluttershy had a "crush" on Navarone, was because she felt the need to help him.
This chapter still isn't very informative on some thing. Seems like some filler for something bigger maybe...
4829558
Was it ever implied that they were now trapped inside the pool forever?
Aww, he missed a couple of relly good quotes.
My God, its full of Pinkies.
Scooter, whats the dumb level of the Pinkie swarm? Its over 9000
Maybe Celestia will make the perfect Carosel equine. Get her a long oscilating pole and some music, and you can ride her all day.
i will be eagerly waiting for the next chapter, keep up the good work sir.
Nice to see Celestia be treated decently by Nav for a change.
He/she's settling down. Any idea of how much longer he's going to be a she?
I'm still waiting for Fluttershy to be told that Navarone is immortal and she is not, and that their relationship if it ever occurred could only end in tragedy and tears. The only person Navarone could love and share his pain with forever is Celestia. I wonder if you'll let Fluttershy's element of kindness work her over into believing that Navarone would be happier with Celestia, or if you'll have another Phoenix situation, where she believes he would be happier with her.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.
On a side note, I believe that Navarone has seen and suffered too much to keep on living at the end of this. Sure, he could try and share his pain with another immortal, but let's face it, it will definitely "logically" only end in a double suicide. Cause we all know that the longer you live, the harsher life seems. Though two people can hold more weight, enough of it can crush both of them, and without Luna being a third support to them, it will only crush them sooner.
Rather pessimistic speech, I know, but let's be rational here, Navarone and Celestia have both already tried to kill themselves. An immortal by age can only die in three ways. Murder, suicide, or a horrible accident.
Either way, somber comment aside, great chapter WhatMustIDo. Bet this stories starting to make you feel somber too, as if you're connecting with your character on more than just an understanding of his character.
The joys of writing.
If there was only one way of getting rid of all the pinkies I wonder if twilight in the episode ever relized that she was basically killing all those pinkie clones awesome chapter by the way
4829470 and it wont any time soon by the looks of it
Good the sun finally gets a turn, tho she was a bit harsh on the tree.
A great chapter, as always.
4829630
Because of Stoopid Magic, possibly forever. Changing a gene from X to Y is apparently harder than changing one's entire gene code to some other species.
Navi be banging all dat royal ass
Seems like this is just a filler and nothing really important happened besides the celly stuff and a new soldier cloning pool. Endless war lol
Yay! An update at last!
FUCK YEAH update!
I do not belive that Celestia and Nav are going to stay together in the end. Either something catastrophic is going to happen and either of them will die or they will hate and distrust each other(at least Nav will distrust Celestia).
If Nav survives the events of the fic then i belive that he will end with either Spike(if still a girl), Rainbow(If still a girl, but hey... you never know) or Flo(with the swings in their relationship IT is hard to tell).
But, i may be wrong and won't get together with any of them or no one.
4829649
Loving someone who will not live as long will end in tragedy.
You can only love someone who can relate to you.
I'm really tired of these tropes, especially the first one as it's all over fimfiction. Where do people get the idea that it's better to die than to live longer than your friends and family? What do you say to that widow across the street that's buried three husbands? "I'm sorry you're still alive, it must suck." What about all the grandparents that outlived all their friends? Did they loose all the joy from their lives when their last childhood friend passed away?
Let's make it simpler: what about pets? It's pretty much guaranteed that anyone will outlive their pet, so why get one? It will only end in tears when they inevitably die.
You know what happens when a person dies and their loved ones live? They grieve and move on. And once they've recovered from the loss they will tell you that they are happy they had the relationship they did. The only regrets that you usually hear are that the relationship wasn't deeper.
And as for the second... That's pure garbage. Sure, oftentimes a traumatic event can hurt a relationship; but what keeps a damaged person going is having someone they can trust. This is entirely dependent on the individual, but quite frankly, a kind soul has a far better chance of making such a situation work than another damaged person.
I half-expected them to find the real Luna or at least her remains—don't remember how effective their immortality is in this fic—when they were looking around the cave at the end, and it turned out Luna's clone had incapacitated/killed her and gone on to become NMM. Luna had made a clone to take care of the nasty business she'd been saddled with. The Luna clone's flaws manifested as being an evil cunt, instead of the the Pinkie clones' stupidity and single-mindedness. Poison Joke does something different to each victim, so who says the Mirror Pool can't run off the same concept? Heck, you could blame Everfree magic if you felt like it.
The Elements of Harmony had "purified" Luna after her banishment was over, sure, but she was still a flawed copy. Cleaning something isn't the same as fixing it, so there were still plenty of cracks. The drama with Nav stressed her further, and eventually, something broke.
First of all, update. WHAT WHAT?!?!
Second, dat character development.
Third, poor Fluttershy.
By character development, I mean that Celestia and Nav are really starting to ACT like a couple (a strange open one, but still).
And Celestia has major mental scars, ones that kinda match Navs. Also, finally, Celestia knows that Taya is competing for Navs love (*shudders*), thought I don't know if you call it a competition when one is disqualified by the judge.
These are some of my favorite chapters of yours WMID. They are fun, they are sad, they build relationships, and it moves the plot along nicely.
Overall, 10/10.

Well said and thought out.
The pain of loss is damn near crippling at first, but in time, the poor memories fade while our favorites only become that much sweeter.
It is this favoring of the past and hope for the future that makes us willing to reach out again, despite the tragedy we know is coming one day.
Also, great analogy with the pets.
My birthday was yesterday, and I must say that getting a new chapter of this is by far the best present I could've asked for :)
4829917 Which raises the question of how they would be used. For the most part they come out as blank slates so unless used for cannon fodder how would you employ them. Perhaps a training dummies to the true soliders can get used to killing?
4830238
As much as you want to hope for it to be so, people can't mentally live forever. If a person were to live for a thousand years in comfort, they would seek pain to think of. If someone lived a thousand years in pain, they would seek comfort. What happens when you experience the maximum of both? What's the point of living? For the sake of another? Well what happens when they die? What's the point then? He's lived both of the ups, and the downs. The only thing that could really hold him together once everything is over is truly the love of another, a love that doesn't hurt him or control him.
The problem is though, love is a double edged sword. You put comfort into a pet, maybe sometimes even love into a pet. The difference is that you can find another pet that is the same if that one dies, hence why people get them and keep getting them. Once you feel true love, it's almost impossible to feel something like it again after the loved one dies. You can feel something close, but that's it. Situations where there isn't any love, like a marriage for money, that is a situation where the next love could be better, because that is not TRUE love.
The problem with Navarone, if I remember right, was that the person he "loved" a human girl awhile back, completely stabbed him in the back. Shattering most of his love unless he calls upon it. The thing is, what he feels for Celestia, Fluttershy, or anyone else, is lust. simply lust. Maybe a slight bit of commitment, but that is not love.
If you really want to complain about real life situations, after the first two deaths of widow's husbands, they feel numb. Sometimes they can cry, sometimes they can't, but even if tears are streaming, I can promise you after the second time, all they feel is empty. Maybe some self pity here or there, maybe some pain, but they still become moderately numb.
The difference between love and lust, is that love can hold someone forever, while lust is more of a krutch you can lean on. Eventually though, even if you become addicted to that krutch, it can still wear down and break.
I said that love, or rather, lust, between him and Celestia (Though I assume Celestia feels love based on the fact that she has probably experienced very little of it in her long life.) would hold Navarone together forever. I simply change the statement of forever to longer than with Fluttershy.
So I made a small mistake there, he wouldn't last forever with Celestia, just longer.
I stand by what I said though.
its fun reading comments about people voting who nav ends up with at the end, personally i think hes gonna die. we already know that nav is technically not real. he was created by discord. discord said this, remember how the deal said he is gonna put someone in equestria and that he will rekindle some of his powers should he feel his life is in danger? everyone wants a happy ending, but much like the manga berserk, i STRONGLY doubt this will have a happy ending.
4830544 train them or tell them to kill the enemy. Pinkie told her clones to have fun, they did, so tell the soldier clones to kill the enemy and they will. Also it really doesn't matter if they have proper training an army of thousands of easily replaceable soldiers vs an army of several hundred soldiers. The winner is pretty clear especially in equestria where the tech is so low. You probably wouldn't have to train them anyways just give them weapons and tell them to hit anything that doesn't look like them or the princesses with them
4830088 or he could end up being forever alone
This may not be the proper word. Is Fluttershy not still in Canterlot?
Celestia is a sweet, kind, wonderful, loving, magnanimous, jealous bitch. Which is pretty awesome.
KBO.
So I just had a really sad thought. I noticed how Taya was acting towards Nav during some parts in this chapter. I though, " What if Discord is slowly corrupting Taya? Like it's slow enough to make it seem like being a rebellious teen. Then when it happens, the only way to stop her is for Nav to kill her?" I got the image of Nav holding a dying Taya with his crossbow in front of him and a bloody bolt in Taya's neck. Sorry for the unpleasantness of this, but you never know with Whatmustido....
Poor Fluttershy.
Hey whatmustido, do you think you could get a full body drawing of Navarone please? I've been dying to know what she looks like. On another note, I'm super excited that Nav could be in a relationship with Celestia. As always, keep up the good work!

What in earth are you basing this tripe off of?
Humans can't handle living forever? Show me some evidence. The human body starts to break down after 40 or so years (the human body only designed to last between 25 and 30 years), and lots of people decide to give up when their body does a few decades later. But show me one case of someone simply living too long in an eternally young body. What? You can't find any references? That's because it has never happened. People don't stay young forever so we cannot know if people can handle being young forever. But we do know that a healthy person can enjoy life right up the the moment their body gives out on them. I've shaken the hand of war vets who keep on enjoying their life into their eighties and beyond, and they have been through crap that I can scarcely imagine. I shook the hand of one guy who was stuck in a Vietnam concentration camp for ten years. That's far worse than anything Nav has gone through yet, and this guy still gets out of bed and faces life every day.
And what is his nonsense about love? If I'm following you correctly, you're saying that once you fall in love, if you loose it you're screwed for life. Because nothing can ever be as good as that, and if it is... well, then it couldn't have been love. It must have just been lust. So if your love leaves you, or gets hit by a bus, you may as well give up and never try again because you can only ever love once.
Give me a break.
And you think people simply replace their pets? Have you ever had a pet that you loved? If you ever had one then you would know that replacing a companion like that is not possible.
That widow I mentioned? She's a real person. My neighbor died and left his spouse behind. I spoke to her about it, and I'll take the word of someone that has lived through it that she grieved and moved on over yours that she had to be empty because you say so. She said a lot of things, but she never called herself that.
Reading your comments is like hearing "My girlfriend cheated in me! I should end it now because there will never be another! My life is over!"
I hope you'll forgive me, but it sounds like you are speaking from ungrounded conviction. Do you have any life experiences or research, or anything to support your statements?
Damn, this shit is as amusing as ever.
When I saw the title to this chapter I was like
pain is weakness leaving the body. Soldier. sued for copywrite
Also Pinkie is now a atheist

"And you think people simply replace their pets? Have you ever had a pet that you loved? If you ever had one then you would know that replacing a companion like that is not possible."
You just contradicted yourself.
Also, if you want to be rude, you remind me of someone who thinks they know how someone's feeling deep down just from words alone. You sound pompous and arrogant. It's like you believe that people can't hide their pain from you, so that whenever you see none of it, you think none of it is there.
And moving on doesn't mean not feeling anything anymore, it means forgetting about it. Burying the emotions so deep down that it becomes nothing but a minor ache. There's a reason people can still cry years later about what they lost.
Oh, and the late reply was because I got some serious shits from some homemade hot dogs and fries, am NOT used to digesting that.
4829600
Maybe so, but she went about it in a reprehensible way.
4831064
No, I didn't contradict myself. You don't replace a relationship; be it friend, family, pet or lover. Such a thing is not truly possible. But the end of one relationship does not mean you cannot build a new one.
And moving on most certainly NOT mean forgetting. Nor does it mean to burying your emotions. The first is not possible, and the second is the absolute worst way to deal with pain. Different people have different ways of surviving. Some people deal with their pain through cathartic exercises like sports or writing; but in the end you have to accept that pain as a part of you. Burying it and not dealing with stuff like that will allow it to fester. A lot of people use those words, true as they are, without realizing what it's like to have an ache that keeps gnawing at your mind, undermining your subconscious and making your irritable and unhappy long past the time you should have been able to deal with the pain.
You call me arrogant, and perhaps I am. But your lack of experience on this topic is glaringly obvious. From your commentary I would place you between 15 and 22 years if age. Male, with no current romantic relationship. Either one serious relationship in the past that ended poorly and you didn't deal with it well, or you saw someone that went through the same. Given that I'm basing this off of two comments in a fanfiction blog, I've got a pretty low certainty on that. But that is the impression you have given me.
Like I said earlier: It sounds like you are speaking with conviction but no knowledge of the topic. So unless you can support your statements with experience, research, or anything really; don't bother replying as I am likely to simply ignore you.
Tricked someone into reading this when I told him it was only 123 pages long. We aren't friends anymore
