Oh boy! What excellent timing; I'm so excited!
Edit:
it's one big happ(il)y (insane) family!
I know sunbutt had it coming, but hell be damned if that's utterly horrifying. It is and it is.
Woona must've been severely...disciplined to have such a goddamned doggishly dogged determination to be a tool.
As for Taya, see Sunbutt.
Huh. That choice will be an interesting one...
Don't do it. That list for Navi is important for some reason
Haven't read it yet but, HOLY COW DAS A LOTTA WORDS!, I have my binge material for the next few months now.
The fact Nav even considers the idea of tampering with someone's mind without their consent is disgusting. Yes, Taya's lust for her mother may not be... proper, but at the end of the day those are her feelings. Nav has no right to alter someone's mind simply because she finds them problematic.
The situation with Celestia isn't as bad because she was one of the "bad guys" as it were, and the only options were brainwashing or death. But with Taya? Taya is Nav's daughter. She care's about him, puts her trust in him, and would defend him with her life. It's very, very wrong (or evil) to alter her mind without her consent.
And as far as I know, Taya has never once tried to rape Nav despite the feelings she has for him. Nav has no reason to consider doing such a horrible thing besides being uncomfortable. There are a multitude of ways Nav could attempt to solve the issue rather than going for the most despicable option the moment it presents itself.
Navs getting some effective rest before things kick off again? Is Nav getting teh coma done first so that they can get teh Academy started at least or track the build before collecting the Tarterus Army, or is the Army thing going to be another year or so of build up as simply using a dozen high yield warheads wouldnt be enough to do teh job, or react badly?
Yeah, the right one, get Newlestia to go brain spelunking with you cause she's the most stable out of all the groupies right now. Really, with the shit that's probably gonna come crawling outta the woodwork when this shit goes down, and he wants Taya manning the guns? At least Celly ain't gonna have her mind buckle under the unfathomable horror that's probably rampant in Nav's mind. Nope, send in the child.
Good word choice there. Besotted being both an adjective and a verb is super helpful.
Can't wait to see Pelt teaching his class of monster-hunters the proper way to suplex a treant.
Also nice how topical Discord has revealed himself to be.
Whelp, time to wait another month for the next chapter!

I'm not sure what it is but I feel like the story has become...boring isn't the right word, more like it has grown dull, when I read older chapters they seem as energizing as every and written perfectly but when I read these newer chapters it feels less like your writing a story and more like your filling an obligation, like there is no longer a passion in each chapter, or maybe I've just grown out of this story and the old chapters just hold nostalgia for me, who knows
I think Nav should talk to Taya about it first. Like, actually confront her, tell her how she actually feels about her obsessive creepiness, and tell here what she thinks it might take.
Brainwashing is good and all, but sometimes talking with people is more helpful.
9582604
yeah but even after she has been fixed would you still want her in your head after everything she has done? paranoia IS a human trait you know, I can't see him losing that
9582478
yeah, feels like nav no longer cares about his morals, with all the power he has he simply takes action for what he considers the best option
Here's hoping Nav doesn't force the change in Taya and chooses a more natural route. Things are picking up though! A lot going on this chapter
I KNEW IT!
a little while ago I got the strongest feeling you updated, i didn't check until now, but you're closer to my mind than I thought
9582464
You are in for a ride. I came in when the story was at 1.3 million words, before whatmustido patched it; he even made a changelog for it and everything.
This story, for every chapter, has had me super excited. I am hella glad it exists.
Huh. That talk with Lulu was rather enlightening. So that's why she is so nutty about command.
Looking forward to the coma.
Now Nav, I know those feelings Taya has for you are hella weird; but those are her own. She has never taken it further than propositions. Let her be her.
9582464
take it kind of slow. there's so much, you'll lose things if you go too quickly
Excuse me? What the fuck are you implying here?
9583006
i know oatmeal raisin is the best!
people are like those are just fake chocolate chip. I think they have no idea that raisins were the original chocolate chip
I would also point out chocolate is on Everything. it is annoying
9582464
months? i think i spent a week and it was well over a million,. then again you are in this much later in the game if it takes you months to binge, well you do you
9582813
It's cause their is nothing new. As Nav said himself, he only has to go into the Coma, then to Tartarus and then they win. It's the end game. And cause of that, there isn't going to be anything new.
But that also brings into perspective just how SLOOOOOOW everything thing. Think about it, look at it from a video game perspective for a second. Nav has many 'Side Quests' he still needs to do, and has done nothing with.
Finding and Freeing the Fire Elementals.
Finding and Freeing the Air Elementals.
Finding and Freeing the Earth Elementals.
Make Backups.
Have Taya make Backups.
Fix Kat's very out of character, and very deadly, love/devotion/slavery/creepiness with her.
Show Spider she likes him and doesn't fear/hate him.
Pick a Girlfriend between multiple choices.
Fix Taya's Lust for him. (I vote he loves her back and gives into the Incest fantasy since it isn't actually incest by blood.)
Become a Man again.
Fix Kat's 'Open anything' Curse which everyone including the Author has completely forgotten exists.
Have Jax make an Army.
Have Jax master Runes.
Have Jax find an apprentice to teach his skills to as a backup.
Have Jax make enchanted armor.
Find out what to do with that Undead Dragon Armor everyone forgot about as well.
And do on, that's just off the top of my head, but people that go back and reread the story, make a list. A list of all the 'Tasks'/'Quests'/'Stuff' Nav has said he will deal with, and STILL hasn't done yet. There are a LOT. Lets not forget the Dragonlord's Mother he has to deal with, Technology, the Elements of Harmony, and oh, killing a true god by literally killing a concept by bring world peace eternally.
I love how Nav's every seemingly one time encounter with a character ends up with them becoming someone more significant to the story later.
Examples:
First time Smiles is mentioned, he was spooning a hungover Shiny - Now he's the assistant to Nav's master blacksmith.
Mentions two or three encounters with Zecora - She is now his Shaman/Exorcist
The gay griffin, Aurora, he met in Atlantis - Now one of his servants
Silver Quill was one of the many of Pertz's prisoners - Nav's accountant
Fleur who antagonized him early on in the story - starting a revolution in Canterlot with Nav's help and is an important ally
Saved slaves from pirate ship - Ship is now airship and crew follows him
Sketch, a random changeling from Atlantis - Captain of Nav's second ship
There are obviously a lot more, but I don't want this comment to get much longer.
Honestly at this point, I'm expecting Minerva to join at some point, Anton to make a reappearance, and possibly Pelt to even be one of Nav's monster hunters with the CMC as his top students. That would be a horror show.
9583069
you forgot the whole {bring humanity to the future} thing, and I personally thought he destroyed the dragon armor, also doesn't he also need to find Grogar? I recall that being a thing
I mean she isn't wrong to an extent. Even if Celly was a terrible tyrant, she still provided lots and lots of harmony so removing her might cause lots of discord even if they were changing her personality.
I find the fact that how chill Twilight is reacting a bit off. Isn't Discord supposed to give off that super creepy vibe?
Was
Great to see that Celestia isn't an entirely fucking useless pony.
That's very interesting. He's like a computer program that is coded to follow one single vague rule. But does that mean there is a possibility to change him? Give him a mind and/or soul and give him free will. Remove the bits that provoke chaos and yay, a new Discord. I
Wait what?? I thought Discord didn't want him to meet his old self? If that's the case why would Discord want Nav to find the infodump from Anon?
Why does everyone want to change Nav into a bride.
Hohoho, you gotta tell Athena this man
holy fuck, I still remember that one comment when someone said "what was the point of bringing up the umbral knight". Damn that was long ago
Nice, let's make Nav even more monotone
Ask Flo to build an atomic bomb, done, you beat Tartarus.
I kinda miss these small details.
More sassy Taya please
Flat is justice?
Why not also have a fire elemental in your head while you're in your coma? Aren't they supposed to have insane regeneration capabilities?
Why not just talk to Taya? I feel like they rarely have enough time to bond with one another so Taya craves Nav's love constantly. Spend more time with your filly and talk things out. Set boundaries and teach her common sense. Maybe instead of asking Taya you could ask Twilight? It's a better choice in terms of safety but could also give bad vibes to Taya. Boy I'm glad I'm not Nav.
I am so glad I was not wrong with either the merrying Celestia idea, nor the Eris idea. It is good that the author hints to his plans and ideas, setting them up beforehand and not throwing them at us. It also is good that I am not a blind mongoose, who came to utterly wrong conclusions. Man, that would be bothersome with how long I have been reading this..
9583163
I don't think he was going out to FIND Grogar, but Grogar WAS mentioned, as he's responcible for all the undead in the Arctic and all the Ghosts in the Haunted Bunker that Nav STILL hasn't returned to.
In fact, remember when there used to be a ghost possessing Nav, making him do girly things like braiding people's hair when he wasn't paying attention? Nav and the Author doesn't seem to remember.
Spider Continent that still needs to be dealt with, with the Spider/Human Queen. Also the Dragons. And the Zebras which have turned away from the light and are all evil and were following that ambassador pony turned ruler. Wasn't there also a place full of evil monkeys.
There are a LOT of evil places still left in the world that Nav needs to 'Fix' before World Peace happens and Discord in the world stops being a thing. All those 'tiny' nations and forces causes discord with their neighbers and the world, and Nav mentioned wanting to go back to deal with them adventually too. Never did. So many things started and just never finished.
It's like picking up every side quest in an RPG, and in the beginning you did them all, but after a point you just started ignoring them and went right to the main quest, but still picked up every side quest you came across anyways.
9582814
Nav has done this multiple times. They've also had several talks about why Taya's desires are not acceptable.
9583163
Nav gave the dragon armor to Twilight, who was planning on studying it.
9583208
Discord didn't want Nav to go back in time. He doesn't care if Nav meets his old self in the present.
Building a nuke would be literally retarded. Why bother conquering Tartarus if you make a huge chunk of it unlivable in the process?
They do have insane regenerative abilities, but that's why Nav is going to Athena and Hera to help him heal. He doesn't want to give too many external entities the ability to modify his brain.
Nav has talked to Taya. Multiple times.
9583377
Why would Nav return to a smoking hole in the ground? Luna utterly destroyed the Antarctic bunker.
I do remember. Nav is considerably more feminine than she was as a dude. And there hasn't been a chance to braid any hair recently. The last time she did it was the hotspring chapter, to Twilight.
Nav already dealt with the evil zebras. They pretty much genocided the entire village. The remnants would have been quickly mopped up by all the nearby villages who were pissed at Pertz. I don't remember any evil monkeys.
Me when the new chapter came out yesterday but I didn’t get a notification email 🙃
9583425
Didn't Nav end up being a Monkey Princess dressed up with her 'consort'/'knight' Spike. I remember Spike being all thrilled and trying very hard to get lucky with Nav. I think it was very early on in their round trip adventure.
I don't ever remember Luna destroying the Bunker, wouldn't that NOT deal with the Ghost and let them all free to wander around?
As for the Zebras, I thought it was the whole nation, not just a single village. After all, why then did the other Villages not band together to purge them? Why did they do nothing? Either way, they didn't 'Help' causing Discord by their inaction, it's still a problem to solve.
The story is very long, a LOT of things have happened. Cause of that, I've NEVER went back and reread anything. So I've probably forgotten a lot of facts, like Luna wiping out the Bunker. When Nav talks about it, he talks like it still exists and wasn't destroyed.
9583496
Nav was a monkey princess, yes. But what about the super peaceful, incredibly lovey-dovey and loyal monkeys makes them seem evil?
You're right, it didn't deal the ghosts and did leave them free to wander around. That's why there have been several conversations in the story about all the ghosts wandering around the world after Luna destroyed the bunker, improperly exorcising them. That's literally the reason for Nav's first date with Soarin': Celestia had to leave their date early to deal with the ghost whales showing up in Florida, hunting for Navarone.
Other villages did try banding together to stop them. When one stallion has true magic and has an incredibly powerful warlock working with him, along with a ton of various races who view him as a god, conquering normal ol' zebras is pretty easy. The reason Pertz was viewed as such a monster by pretty much everybody they spoke to in Africa is because he destroyed every army that tried opposing them.
9583377
9583163
He was supose to find grogar while in tartarus or hope twilight learned enough to merge the the dead russian to him
There wassent any necromancers around the bunker since from what i gathered from death "The war was so great it caused tears in reality" so the humans that died there was so fucked they permanetly made a deadzone that made undead.
He didnt destroy the dragon armour since nav wanted to study it but that hassent happened
9582478
She tried forcing herself on nav but he got pissed so yeah,,,, but if she jumps in she could change nav so that nav woundt care about incest.
Oh look, slippery slope psychology in action.
Used the mind wipe once, suddenly starts to become acceptable in his mind....
I mean, I think that *particular line of psychology is utter bullshit, because such decisions only lead one to that conclusion when they make the initial decision out of convenience rather than Nav's situation where it was legitimately a viable option. (Talking about debating to mind wipe Taya's lust)
Since we're dealing with psychology here, I want to talk the major flaw of psychology in general, in that it takes into account too little variables, and its whole ordeal is to strip away the individual and find the primary code of a human being's responses. Each individual is usually put into a group, fight or flight, aggressive, passive, or defensive, decisive or hesitant, etc, etc.
Exceptional cases such as individuals who defy their own flaws, define themselves beyond their mortal coil, and commit great evil and great good in quick succession, with little emotional bias despite emotional presence, spit in the face of most modern psychology. When you have such an individual, psychologists HAVE to trace back and reason out why they act the way they do because of how unusual it is.
Navarone is that guy, he is the guy who spits in the face and just moves with godlike determination.
I accept this is the author's story, and that Navarone is supremely uncomfortable with his daughter's feelings, and I even take notice of how Aqua actively influenced his opinions and may have had a role in his current musings, but I also think Navarone is aware and paranoid enough to realize the only reason he's thinking the thoughts he is at the end is because of both Aqua, and what he has recently done to Celestia. While Navarone is a terrible father in a few senses, its well established he is extremely protective and supportive of Taya, and I can't see him doing something to her that he'd kill and torture for being done to him, especially given whose giving him the go ahead.
(For the record, Psychology is a good and well needed field and all, but I feel that in its current state, it more often fails after it succeeds, marking off those helped without tracking them to keep good records. Its not good at the moment, and people need to realize that and refine the variables people take into account. Location, culture, biology, and especially race due to hot button responses, are generally left out far too often.)
MORE!!!! if it'snot to much trouble that is.......
Just finish the chapter, kind of anticlimactic with Celestia. Kind of hoping for more secrets to be revealed from her. Could of swore there was more.
9582478
I mean, what did you expect? Nav is pretty fucked in the head.
9583425
That's a fair point. I should probably reread the whole thing again just to be safe, y'know?
9583613
I've pointed this out before for someone else, but you're making a bit of a mistake about what Nav thinks. Nav is totally fine with someone changing his personality. That's the backup plan if the Coma doesn't work, remember? Getting Flo to do a hard reset of their brain. Nav's problem with what Aqua did wasn't that she was mindwiping people, it's what she was replacing them with, and that she was doing it slowly to make them suffer. Probably also that she was doing it for mostly personal gain. Nav wouldn't be doing something they would kill or torture someone else for doing, they would be doing something they would have someone do to them. Now, it's pretty obvious that Nav doesn't see mind wipes as a go-to method for dealing with problems, more as a last resort. They only did it to Celestia because all of the other options were worse, they only plan on doing it to themselves if all else fails, and they've already tried normal means of getting rid of Taya's EXTREME THIRST.
9582478
I try and point this out a lot, but Nav is fine with someone doing the same thing to him. That's literally his plan if the Coma doesn't work, get Flo to hard reset his brain so he doesn't want to die all the time. If her feelings were harmless, you would be right that forcibly changing them would be evil, but they aren't harmless. Taya obsesses over Nav. She would destroy the world for him, whether he wanted her to or not. That obsession isn't healthy. The fact that he doesn't keep her as his little pet attack daughter shows he's doing the exact opposite of what you said he is. He isn't doing what's best for him, he's doing what he thinks is best for her. That's what most parents do. It would be best for him to keep Luna and Taya and all of his vassals as puppets, so he could do whatever he wanted like Celestia did. Instead he's trying to make them balanced people that don't worship him. It's like making someone go to a psychiatrist. They don't want to go to the psychiatrist. They don't see anything wrong with them. But they're unhealthy. If they don't change, they'll keep getting worse and end up hurting themselves or someone else. Nav isn't a psychiatrist. The world he's in doesn't have psychiatrists. The closest thing to a psychiatrist are the elementals. If he lets Aqua do it, I would probably say it's a bad move. If he goes crazy and tries to fix everything, I would say it's a bad move. Getting a normal elemental that can actually say no to him, like Flo, to get rid of what's keeping him from being an actual parent to Taya? Not so much.
And Taya did try and rape him, she just didn't succeed. It was back when they were first freeing the Crystal Empire. The only reason she stopped is because he said that if she kept trying he would have nothing to do with her, that she could be his daughter or nothing. If he didn't give her that ultimatum she'd keep trying.
9582464
Careful not to binge too hard; you may forget details earlier on and lose your track. I know I have several times.
Holy shit, when Discord says that you know you're doing shit right. Or wrong, actually wrong is probably more likely.
Hymn .... nav using water elementals to purge things he doesn't like about people sounds like something evilish ... especially since it was gonna be used against him he should know how wrong it is. How long before he justifies it against people who annoy him. Plus its too much of a deus ex machina to just be able to change people against their wills. Whats next getting gilda to agree to casual sex but have her mind changed to not want to be married to him. It erases actions have consequences ... he raised her whily nilly now he has to pay the piper same with his mares and griffin playthings you dont get to turn them on and off with a switch.
Also Celestia could've been handled differently too. Flo couldve given her another personality like eva but without a way for her to gain control. Might of actually been entertaining to her celestia say ..my other self is cursing you out right now.
9583861
So treat this as a reply to both of your comments.
The reason why Nav is fine with someone helping his personality along isn't because he's fine with being changed, its because he sees it as a necessity to beat an entity far beyond his own capabilities and run a lower risk of being used as a puppet. Navarone is doing the same thing he did with Celestia, where it's just the smart and best way to handle the current dilemma. The key word involved is consent.
Throughout the entirety of the story, Navarone has displayed an extreme dislike for the destroying and forceful changing of minds, he even threatened Celestia's life if she ever attempted it with him way back near the start. He actively avoids the "broken" ponies that the changelings feed upon despite it being his idea because it disturbs him so greatly, and the kicker is each of them were straight up criminals, whose existence while less pitiable due to their past, Navarone STILL finds disturbing.
Not to mention Navarone has dealt with perversions of a corrupting nature before, and while abstaining did help him, at no point was he forced to stop, just carefully coerced. If Flo could stop him for his own sake without him losing all faith in her, I'm sure she would have stopped him during that whole fiasco.
Under no circumstances could I see Navarone entertaining the idea of wiping someone's mind without their consent going by his core based morals he's lived by since the beginning of the story, and him saying, in Aqua fashion I might add, "It's what's best for you" is wickedly out of character considering all the OTHER things he let's Taya do that may have not been for the best. Its clear Aqua is playing a role again in trying to influence Nav's decisions, she's just doing it extremely subtly, because the Navarone we've all been reading thus far wouldn't think that thought without immediately shaking his head at it.
9584085
that would have been an interesting way to do it but without the ability to merge personalities and make dominant ones like what she did with the ling I can't see it actually happening, I mean...she'd have to break Celestia's personality into fragments and then reshape it with a main part of it as the dominant one
9584359
that's my main fear for these newer chapters, it feels like navs main core has been ripped out and now he is just this husk of a character, he no longer seems to have morals anymore or any core beliefs that he won't break
Yeah I’ve been reading from the very beginning for a while now but I think this is where I leave. The story just doesn’t seem the same and I don’t like where it’s going or just went. Any ways thanks the for fun times and hours of keeping me entertained but I’ll probably only read the earlier chapters if I come back to this story now. I think the whole thing where everyone just parades to Celestia the fact they’re about to do what they are and she’s helpless is kinda fucky to put it lightly.
9584359
The Navarone we've been reading. The one who didn't massacre a community. The one who didn't torture someone who's entire existence revolves around making others happy. The one who hasn't repeatedly said he wants to destroy the world and is actively working towards that goal. You're very mistaken in one thing. You think that because Navarone sees something as wrong, he won't do it. But we've seen time and time again that that isn't the case. He'll do it without a second glance, and hate himself for it afterwords, like he does with everything else. It doesn't matter how bad the option is if he sees it as the least terrible, or the only one. And I've already explained how his mindwiping is different than Aqua's. When Aqua said it was for their own good, it was just empty words, and she was alone in her opinion. Nav genuinely cares about Taya, and everyone he knows has kept telling him that what he was doing wasn't working. When what you're doing isn't working, you change what you're doing. He's tried ignoring it, that didn't work. He's tried being a good parent, that didn't work. He's tried being stern and issuing ultimatums. He's tried asking her to stop. Taya is crazy. She just is. She isn't just crazy though, she's crazy, violent, and possessive. What do you think would happen if Nav dies? Is Taya going to peacefully get married, or maybe get a pet, and then live a normal life? Or is she going to murder everything in sight and then off herself? What do you think she would do if she had another ten years of obsessing over Nav? Or fifty? Or hundred? What happens if Nav married someone she didn't like? The way she is now, she's bad Luna in waiting. Potentially even discord 2.0. Only she doesn't listen when Nav, or anyone else tries to tell her she needs to change. She was an inch away from raping her father, and she hasn't gotten any better, she's just hiding it more. If he was changing something that wasn't relevant, or dangerous, like how Aqua wanted to turn him into a perfect bride, you might have a point, maybe Nav wouldn't do it. But making it so that he can be a parent, and try to guide her into not being a psychopath like what he's doing with half his other vassals? I doubt it. He might feel bad after, but I'm pretty sure he would still do it.
Oh, almost forgot the food ponies. He was uncomfortable around the food ponies, sure. Before he rewrote Celestia. And he's totally fine with Newlestia. Its what the food ponies got turned into that disturbs him. So he's obviously still fine with using the methods. And he wouldn't even actually be rewriting, he'd be making a minor edit. One that would be seriously inconvenient if he was evil, because it would make one more person who could criticize his actions instead of following blindly. If he makes the decision unilaterally, using Aqua, where he can rewrite whatever he wants, that might be evil. If he asks someone who can say no, someone who's mind is less fucked, someone pure, like Flo, not evil. I've already said this in one of the other comments, but it's like making someone go to a psychiatrist. They won't like it. They might hate you for it. But it keeps them from cutting people up in their basement. Only ponyland doesn't have psychiatrists, and Taya is almost strong enough to take out a country single handed. And that was before she got tree stamina.
9584594
Sounds like you're telling me you believe Navarone won't measure sins differently and that to him, they're all equally bad, and he'll do them when they're convenient and not uncomfortable. I heavily disagree if that IS what you're saying, keeping this short this time around so you can clarify. I will merely point out that he has been raped, tortured, and people have even attempted to murder him, but the only time he swore he would kill someone, was when mental destruction came into play, this somebody being Celestia for God's sake.
