"I'm willing to work with violent rapists, murderous psychopaths, sadists, torturers, Machiavellian despots, war criminals, government spooks, mind defilers, familiars, soldiers of fortune, corrupt politicians, hedonists, bloodthirsty revolutionaries, seditionists, racketeers, unfettered hypocrites, warmongers, assassins, and Sunshine Smiles, but if you're a thief, go fuck yourself with a rusty, jagged pipe, you despicable fiend!" ― Lady Navarone, First of Her Name, Protector of Harmony, Queen of the Monkeys, Soldier of Fortune, Hedonist, Government Spook, Revolutionary and Seditionist, War Criminal, Murderer, etc.
Ugh, I can't wait to see Aqua get revealed. There's just something so satisfying about a smug bitch having a breakdown because their "perfect plan" got fucked so hard that it's comparable to Moonie at her lewdest
OH HOW I WANT TO BEAT AQUA AND MAKE HER SO HER EXISTENCE IS HORRIRBLE. Jesus chrsit. I HATE Aqua. Nav better do somehing about her. Like... idk... talk normally about normal things then quickly say "AQUA IS IN MY HEAD" Or... SOMETHING.

You and me both.
I can't decide if Nav's theme song should be:
Broken - Lund
Above and Below - The Bravery
Twisted - MISSIO
Help me out, fam.
It'd be extremely interesting is aqua turns out to just be doing all this so that Nav has someone to fight against. He always seems to do better when acting to fuck over someone who he hates. I'm sure all the elementals, and most of his crew noticed this.
9173202
I think the main thing with nav is that thieves tend to have no set of honor, or stable morals. For the most part everyone in his crew has a line they wouldnt cross for their own benefit, or good intentions, while he views thieves as lacking either of those traits.
9173319
This isn't Nav's theme song but I do like it.
Assuming Nav's crew can lay down the hammer and raze the forest on their way in, this brute force method might work better than going Mission Impossible (only a few on board the entire ship have any experience being sneaky). At least it'll drain the area of guards, traps, pitfalls, and other nasties on the way in and the way out, Considering the accelerated growth factor of the local forest, a Scorched Earth policy might be needed to fully carve a path for the team so it's not all grown back in when they turn to leave the crater-- or at least it won't be anything but spotty weeds for a week or two.
That cache better be worth it-- and no, a case of NASA space pens and several reams of Office Depot paper doesn't count! (Stop drooling Twilight, it's unbecoming of you)

I disagree wholeheartedly. Nav has forgiven and accepted into his service several people (Kat, Luna, Watcher, Pinkie, Rarity, Cadence, and, until recently, Celestia) who have done objectively worse than a nameless professional thief ever could. His reaction to Felix was entirely disproportionate and extremely hypocritical when he shakes hands with rapists and professional killers. Hell, he originally built his fortune as a killer himself, upon the bodies of slavers in Egypt, Celestia's political enemies, and the Diamond Dogs he helped Moonbeam torch.
What it seems to come down to is how useful a person is to Nav: he forgave Cadence because he needs her support against Celestia; he forgave Kat and Luna because they are unparalleled in their skills of destruction; he enlisted Watcher because he's logical, experienced, and can get any job, no matter how dirty, done; he forgave Pinkie and Rarity because he no longer needs to be around them every day and they are bearers of the Elements of Harmony; he forgave the water elementals because they are powerful and wise; he initially forgave Celestia because, at the time, she was the icon of order and her assassination would have plunged Equestria and likely a good chunk of the world into chaos, not to mention she wasn't taking direct action to have him and his kin slaughtered.
He's been grievously wronged by a lot of people who he regularly interacts with; a thief who proudly wears his badge of illicitness is a shining beacon of morality and honor in comparison to most of them.

Nav needs to get turned back into a dragon and burn Aqua out.
Anytime I read anything suggesting Aqua is still alive, I legit just skip to the next paragraph.
Lord Christ, just get rid of her. I will literally donate whatever amount of money it would take to get her axed by next chapter
9173445
If you don’t like Aqua, then don’t read the story
9173326
As a thief I feel I'm able to educate on this topic.
I wonder if Twilight can cast a shrinking spell on one of Jax runic golems so that it can be created as a viral nanogoo that can take on Aqua directly?
9173202
To be fair, he treated all of them roughly the same, if not worse, until they decided to change for the better.
I have this problem. Ever since a while I am thinking about a few possible ways this can go and more and more point to those points. But I do not wanna write them out. if I am right, I spoiled it. If I am wrong I can really live with that. I am just.. Worried that I am right. Not because that are badways the story can go, or super secret and not mediumly obvious ones. But still, the suspiscions are gnawing at me.
To be honest, with how long Aqua's been around, I think I'm starting to settle into a new habit of reading the story out of curiosity without even trying to emotionally engage with it.
(Probably the same sort of mechanism which results in phenomena like "disaster fatigue". The purpose of emotions is to prompt you to do something so the brain eventually concludes that "nothing can be done" and resets "normal", zeroing out the emotional response in the process and reducing the sensitivity to future stimuli the brain classifies as being of the same type. If it happens to readers, it's a clear sign of a mismanaged narrative because it cripples the author's ability to evoke emotions going forward.)
All yall gettin so salty over aqua.
Christ calm all your tits, stop whining and wait for the next chapter.
I am not sure what "bband" is, but I am pretty sure it does not "bbelong".
Filly Tree Taya! So cute!
The more you drag it out, the more satisfying it will be when Aqua finally gets her comeuppance.

I never said thieves were worse than the people nav has on his side. Didnt even hint at that being a thing. I agree that Nav's reaction was very disproportionate in term of how good a person Felix is compared to someone like Kat. I was just pointing out why I think Nav hates felix, but not the others. Whether thieves have any form of honor doesn't matter for this situation because Nav said himself he views felix as someone without honor.
Also, I dont think Nav has ever forgiven someone based purely off how useful they are. He just recognizes people's use and is willing to work with them I.E Luna. Then since he is working with the people they have a chance to apologize or make up for what they did. Even if he does forgive someone based off their use to him I would say that's a valid choice. If someone punches you for whatever reason then they later on help you move houses or something, them punching you could be looked over. Im not saying that is how life works, but it's definitely a valid mindset. Well, I think it is anyway.
9173564
Hugged her and started rubber her back
I assume anyway.
9173269 Aqua literally knows what Nav will do before he does. She isnt reaction to what he does, or he would have done that within like 3 minutes of being around taya, a fire or any competent person. Also, laying on the hate for Aqua way to thick there. Depending on how WMID does with her character she may end up being one of the better ones in the story.
9173403
Well, one of Navarone's character traits is brutal honesty. She doesn't like thieves, fair enough. However, insulting the master thief aboard your ship, which contains many expensive and valuable items, seems a poor decision. Especially when said thief is your guide for the incredibly dangerous journey ahead. Hypocrisy is also one of Nav's hallmark traits, hence the remarkable insight without the will to use it. I hesitate to criticize the character however, because of the severe trauma, and honestly, I take the inconsistencies in stride. This does come off somewhat as an <insert future complication here> but again, Nav insults and goads others because it's fun (and Felix probably won't survive that long, being a thief and all). No one knows just how insane Navarone is, hopefully we find out during the coma sequence, and it results in the mother of all smack-downs for the injustices Nav has gone through. At this point though, does she deserve any justice? Guess we'll find out. ON THE NEXT DRAGONBALL Z Sorry, I couldn't resist.
9173569
I'm not trying to trap you, but the wording of the argument put forth makes it seem as though that was exactly what was being said.
It appears the crux of the argument here is that "thieves tend to have no set of honor, or stable morals," which is highly contestable in regards to the rest of Navarone's acquaintances, and since it was also stated that "For the most part everyone in his crew has a line they wouldnt cross for their own benefit, or good intentions," that further pushes the argument that, despite the intent, the thief somehow is worse than the people Nav has on his side.
Every time I see an update from this story, my day gets a little brighter.
Fucking tasty fam.
This is fun. Wasn't expecting that with Taya though. I like what happened.
Waiting for more is painful but bearable. Please continue.
9173343
This is nav now mentally.
Ah, there it is
it's the conceit of it all
It took 9.2 billion years since the probable advent of light, matter and space for plasmatic globules of star to decay into a mostly liquid globule of dirt.
It took 1.2 billion years since there was a planet to stand on for a self replicating system which processed information to start competing with other self replicating systems for resources.
It took 3.5 billion years of endless argument through blood and gore for life to mold itself into our basic shape.
It took 300 thousand years of being "wise" to start harnessing electricity in any form.
In the blink of an eye discord was created, our species was gone, and we had replaced ourselves with the creations of less than a century of thought.
Thousands of years yet again went by in a semi-stable cycle of developing life, but another human appears and suddenly he thinks he can solve the essences of conflict, progression, and change. He thinks he should write off an immortal just because they lost their soul at some point to the hard choices of leadership and they mistreated their adopted son. He thinks he can solve all his mental ills with a literal magic shortcut and it will just be a nice nap. He thinks he can judge a thief without ever having really spoken to them or learning anything about them. He thinks that he won’t fuck people over before he has even written his laws, just because he has good intentions. Above all, he thinks he can solve a 3.5 billion+ long argument between every cell in every body in just a few thousand years without opposing any side of the argument.
It is the same mistake as aqua, and the same mistake as celestia, and the same mistake as the humans before them, to reach forward and make decisions for others and call that a lack of discord.
So he lets taya permanently lose her place in the genetic chain in order to be a filly forever without explaining to her that she isn't what a filly is anymore, and that what she is doesn't need or really have use for a mother. He just upturns longstanding traditions flippantly, and without bothering to understand the actual purposes of those traditions in order to see if they apply.
of his own doing, the fire upon him
I really hope Aqua gets a facefull of desintegration ray soon...
Nav, Father of the Year. /sarcasm
so i was wondering, are we going to get a scene where Nav goes into Athena's realm, something-something Aqua forces him to do something and Athena instantly knows, takes her out, and Nav has this whole thing where he tries to plan what to do, only to realise Aqua will be waiting right in front of the book, ready to take control all over again
just a thought
9173319
i'd pick Broken - Lund but i think the song from treasure planet, the one he listened to long ago, suits him best
9173343
he seems to be pretty certain who he wants dead, I don't think he would feel much heartache, he might fear he didn't fully kill her though, so a bit of the song makes sense
9173455
I agree with you, people seem to not understand this is Whatmustido's story, he added this whole Aqua thing for a reason he finds acceptable enough to not just axe her right away, and while a lot of people might look past it, she is, in her own way, teaching him some things, whether she does it intentionally or not barely matters, and not just that, take her out, and you have a nice beefy chunk of Nav just doing stuff with not antagonist pushing him. it would just be political plans, sex, and other stuff, and while I do enjoy that, I also like having someone around to take that smile of Nav's face, he is a character built around being fucked over, if he had his way for even 3 chapters long, he would lose his edge, at least that's my opinion
9173478
then why have you not said anything to educate us?
9173505
mind sharing them once the time comes that proves whether your right or not? love to hear em
9173564
someone who gets it, thank you
It's nice to see Flo again, I've missed her as a main part of the story. I don't hate the Aqua thing as much as most, but I am looking forward to the resolution. And hopefully getting a friendly voice back inside Nav's head.

Screw traditions, Nav has green hair!
You do such a good job of writing Aqua that tons of people actually wish death on a fictional character. That is wild.
Also yes, fuck Aqua
9174069
Well, once I feel like there is no way around it, I might share them. Like.. Once our protagonist loses an arm or a leg I will know 100% But the next thing is going to be what A certain H2Hoe has in mind. And in Celestia's and Nav's mind of course. Though, that one is a little obvious, yet, a few... Things, throw me offguard now, especially in this chapter, in the talk with Luna and Moonbeam and Flo. But I am pretty sure I have an idea what "The wet b!tch" is planning. Just imagine what a girl would do with two dolls.
Hurray!
so, I have a question whatmustido. I was on the gdoc for the new chapter and saw what you're trying to keep track of but there is something I haven't seen referenced or brought up in a long time and was curious. Is nav gonna run into the 3 eyed genie, or is it an abandoned plot point?
I found this a month ago, being a sucker for long stories - I caught up two days ago, felt kind of lost after reading it every night and suddenly there was was no more (like when I finished The Water Margin) and now it's updated again! Hurrah!
So, anyway, I have a question. Roughly whereabouts in the story have I joined the wild ride? Are we nearing the end, halfway through, or have we barely started?
All you guys out here hating Aqua while I'm playing 4 dimensional shogi and hating Taya. I'd rather die than deal with filly Taya for eternity. That being said I do of course love the story, loving AND hating characters in a story like this is integral to the experience, you're not supposed to be rooting for everyone guys.
You know WMID, I did some research, and if you were to publish this story right now as is. It would be if not, close to the second longest novel ever published in English. First place tops out at 3.2 mil though.
*sigh... things just haven't been the same since aqua got xehanorted.
9174697
Hard to tell how far along word count wise, but story wise probably 2/3rd of I were to guess. Of course this depends on how smoothly everything goes for Nav.
