Mort, also known as the Pale Pony (of Death), has been tasked to take time off from his rigorous duties of reaping souls. Seeking guidance, he is directed towards the town of Ponyville, to learn about the magic of friendship from Twilight Sparkle and her friends. All he needs to do is keep his true nature a secret. That shouldn't be too difficult...right?

The world can change immensely in a thousand years. Radical ideas can spread from one end of the world to the other, empires can rise from nothing and crumble to dust, and new inventions can turn everyday life upside down. Also, ponies can completely forget about you.

Luna is completely baffled to find out her place in history has been omitted entirely. But it's not a problem that couldn't be solved with coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. And necromancy. Shady, shady necromancy.

And what's it to anyone else if the Princess of the Night ends up with a skeleton in her closet that is just a little more literal than everypony else's? Especially when Berry Punch is going to be blamed for it anyway.

Death's job is simple. When somepony dies, it's up to him to make sure they pass on smoothly. Equestria isn't that large, and so his job is normally simple. A few here and there aren't ready to move on, and he helps them as much as he can. For him, life, or whatever it is you want to call it, is simple. Until Princess Luna, the only living being who can freely acces his little office, shows up with a request.

After all, Twilight is an alicorn now, and certain pieces of paper need to be filled out.

Alright, do you want some advice?
Don't go evil if you don't want to have heroes trying to kill you repeatedly. I know, sometimes you have to do things that are morally questionable, but at others, just be a good guy. Wait in line rather than summon a horde of undead to tear the throats out of everybody except the barista. Or just freeze everybody in place. That's at least funny in a conventional sense.
I'm (sort of) reformed now.
Unfortunately, there're these six mares and their ruler who are making this VERY DIFFICULT.

When a Necromancer is hurled into the place between places then escapes to another world at the cost of his life it is not the end. Being a Necromancer he returns to life with ease, but is skirting the edges of consciousness, and unable to truly wake as a mysterious figure uses magic to put him on the back of a horse to carry him away into the night.

To make matters worse the phylactery he used to save his own life recreated him as a member of the dominant race with... some errors. His injuries are still present and he's now in a much smaller body with his magic drained to nothingness.

So now he's horribly injured, held captive by an unknown force, in an unfamiliar body, in an unfamiliar world and completely exhausted. He's had worse days. He just can't think of any off the top of his head. So familiar territory then, nothing to worry about.

Due to an unexpected coincidence, the Grim Reaper himself is summoned to Luna's chamber in the Canterlot Castle. Princess Luna, Derpy and Twilight are forced to face the Master of Life and Death. Will Princess Luna be able to defend her subjects from the Death?
