Chapter 71: The Semi Finals (Part 2)

Both Will and Busujima made their way into the arena, as the battlefield was changed to a grass battlefield. Both trainers, and the referee took their places, "The second semifinals matchup between Will of Mahogany Town, and Busujima of Hau'oli City will now get under way! Both trainers will use the maximum of six Pokemon. The match will end when all of either side's Pokemon can no longer battle! Furthermore, substitutions may be made freely at any time! When three of either trainer's Pokemon can not battle, we will have a brief intermission for a field change! Now, trainers, choose your first Pokemon!" the referee declared.

"Go, Marowak!" Will said, sending out Marowak.

"This will be over quickly. Honchkrow, go!" Busujima said, sending out his Honchkrow.

"Alright, begin!" the referee declared.

"Honchkrow, keep Marowak in place with Mean Look!" Busujima ordered. Honchkrow then fired a dark ring at Marowak, which surrounded the Bone Keeper Pokemon in a dark aura.

"Now Marowak is trapped," Fluttershy commented.

"Keep up the pressure with Dark Pulse!" Honchkrow then fired Dark Pulse, which Marowak did it's best to tank. However, Marowak struggled to keep standing.

"Man, that Dark Pulse was strong! But we have strong moves too. Marowak, use Flame Wheel!" Will instructed. Marowak then used Flame Wheel, and charged at Honchkrow.

"Knock it away with Shadow Ball!" Busujima ordered. Honchkrow then fired Shadow Ball, which was able to stop Marowak, and knock it out.

"Marowak is unable to battle, the winner is Honchkrow!" the referee declared, as Will recalled Marowak.

"You did great. Alright, now, Mimikyu, let's do this!" Will said, sending out Mimikyu.

"I see. Mimikyu's ability is Disguise, which blocks one attack from the opponent for the match," Lisa commented.

"Not only that, Mimikyu is a Fairy Type, which is good against a Dark Type like Honchkrow," Lincoln added.

"Alright Mimiyku, use Play Rough!" Mimikyu then charged straight at Honchkrow.

"Honchkrow, use Brave Bird!" Busujima ordered. Honchkrow became enveloped in the energy of Brave Bird, and swooped down at Mimikyu. The two attacks collided, and caused a huge explosion. Both Pokemon were sent back, but only Honchkrow was damaged, and severely at that.

"Talk about brutal! Brave Bird damaged Honchkrow as well! Add that to Play Rough, and Honchkrow has to had taken major damage," Silver Spoon commented.

"Busujima doesn't care if he hurts his own Pokemon, just as long as he wins," Clyde commented.

"Alright Mimikyu, use Play Rough, once more!" Mimikyu once again charged at Honchkrow, and used Play Rough, smacking Honchkrow to the ground, unconscious.

"Honchkrow is unable to battle, the winner is Mimikyu!" the referee declared, as Busujima recalled Honchkrow.

"Muk, out here, now!" Busujima said, sending out his Muk.

"Ok, things may prove a bit more tricky. Poison Type Moves are good against Fairy Types, like Mimikyu," Fluttershy commented.

"Mimikyu, return!" Will said, recalling Mimikyu, and got out another Pokeball, "Go, Hariyama!" Will said, sending out Hariyama.

"Why a Fighting Type? I thought Poison Types were resistant against Fighting Type moves?" Zach asked.

"Alright, Hariyama, use Earthquake!" Hariyama then stomped one the battlefield, causing a tremor that damaged Muk, "Alright, now use Rock Slide!" Hariyama then summoned large boulders that it then chucked at Muk, damaging the Sludge Pokemon further.

"Muk, use Toxic!" Busujima ordered. Muk then fired Toxic at Hariyama, which then badly poisoned the Arm Thrust Pokemon. Hariyama was then surrounded by a red aura.

"There we go!" Will commented.

"Is that Guts?" Lola asked.

"Yeah. I think it is," Lincoln replied.

"Alright, so what's 'Guts'?" Liam asked.

"It's Hariyama's special ability. When it suffers from a status ailment like Poison, it's attack power gets a jumbo boost," Lincoln explained.

"Alright Hariyama, use Earthquake!" Hariyama once again used Earthquake, but it carried more power than before.

"Protect!" Busujima ordered. A green barrier then formed around Muk, blocking Earthquake, "Now use Venoshock!" Muk spat Venoshock at Hariyama, which caused a lot of damage to the Arm Thrust Pokemon.

"Shake it off Hariyama! Use Rock Slide!" Will instructed. Hariyama once again used Rock Slide.

"Use Sludge Bomb and obliterate all those boulders!" Busujima ordered. Muk then fired Sludge Bomb, which demolished Rock Slide, with a few more hurdling straight into Hariyama, which knocked it out.

"Hariyama is unable to battle, the winner is Muk!" the referee declared, as Will recalled Hariyama.

"What Pokemon are good against Poison Types?" Ross asked.

"Steel Type Pokemon are Immune to Poison Type moves. As for types they're weak against, Poison types are bad match ups against Psychic and Ground Types," Silver Spoon replied.

"Alright, Garchomp, let's do this!" Will said, sending out Garchomp.

"Garchomp has high attack power. And being a Ground Type, it's good against Muk," Lori commented.

"Muk, return!" Busujima said, recalling Muk, and pulling out a Dusk Ball, "Weavile, go!" he said, sending out a Weavile.

"Weavile, the Sharp Claw Pokemon, a Dark and Ice Type. It works with others of it's kind to bring down enemies and prey. They leave signs for other Weavile by leaving marks on trees and rocks sing their claws," Serenity's Rotom Phone explained.

"That's going to be a bit tougher. Garchomp is doubly weak to Ice Type moves," Lincoln commented.

"Maybe so, but Will has trained with Garchomp to counter Ice Type moves," Fluttershy replied.

"Weavile, use Swords Dance!" Weavile then used Swords Dance, and powered up.

"Let's use Swords Dance too!" Will instructed. Garchomp then used Swords Dance, and powered up as well, "Alright, use Dig!" Garchomp then burrowed underground.

"Keep moving Weavile! When Garchomp comes up, strike with ice Shard!" Busujima ordered. Weavile then began running, in an effort to keep Garchomp from finding it. Garchomp then halted Weavile's advances but coming out in front of the Sharp Claw Pokemon, and striking Weavile. Weavile retaliated with Ice Shard, which caused major damage.

"Quick, use Brick Break!" Will instructed.

"Use Night Slash!" Busujima ordered. Both Pokemon exchanged blows. However, with it's smaller frame, Weavile was able to evade Brick Break, and struck Garchomp with Night Slash, knocking it out.

"Garchomp is unable to battle, the winner is Weavile! Because three of Will's Pokemon are unable to battle, we will take a brief intermission for a field change!" the referee declared, as both trainers recalled their Pokemon, and the battlefield sunk into the ground.

"Man, things are not looking good for Will," Girl Jordan commented.

"So far, he's only taken out one of Busujima's Pokemon, while Will himself has already lost half of his team. Mimikyu has taken damage, but so has Muk and Weavile," Lisa added.

"Guess things are going to get decided in the second half, huh?" Toby said, as he joined the group. Soon, the intermission ended, as a rocky desert battlefield rose up.

"Alright, both trainers are now going to try to defeat the other's remaining Pokemon, now, choose your Pokemon!" the referee declared.

"Alright, Aggron, go!" Will said, sending out Aggron.

"Hmph, Salazzle, go!" Busujima said, sending out Salazzle.

"Salazzle is a Poison Type, right? Doesn't that make it a bad match up for Aggron?" Rusty asked.

"Ordinarily, yes. But Salazzle has an ability called 'Corrosion', which can poison Steel and other Poison Types. Add that to the fact that it's a Fire Type as well, and, well, you get the idea," Toby replied.

"Alright, Salazzle, use Toxic!" Busujima ordered. Salazzle then fired Toxic at Aggron.

"Use Protect!" Aggron then formed a green barrier around it, deflecting Toxic, "Alright now Automize then into Head Smash!" sparks flew off Aggron, as it glowed red, then charged head first into Salazzle at blinding speeds, using Head Smash, which caused a lot of damage.

"Whoa, who knew such a big Pokemon could be so agile?" Rhonda asked.

""It's because of Automize! A Steel Type move that drastically increases speed," Rotom explained.

"Plus, thanks to Aggron having the Rock Head Ability, it can use Head Smash with no worries," Fluttershy added.

"Alright Aggron, now use Dragon Claw!" Aggron then started slashing at Salazzle, with green glowing claws. However, Salazzle kept instinctively dodging each attack.

"Salazzle, use Toxic at close range!" Salazzle then fired Toxic straight into Aggron's face, badly poisoning it, "Alright, now use Flamethrower!" Busujima ordered. Aggron got struck with a full powered Flamethrower, which sent Aggron back a few feet.

"Aggron, use Head Smash!" Will instructed. Aggron once again used Head Smash.

"Use Fire Blast!" Busujima ordered. Salazzle then blasted Aggron with the powerful Fire Type move, which sent Aggron down to defeat.

"Aggron is unable to battle, the winner is Salazzle!" the referee declared, as Will recalled Aggron.

"You did your best. Alright, so for my next Pokemon, Crawdaunt!" Will said, sending out Crawdaunt, "Use Bubblebeam!" Crawdaunt then fired off Bubblebeam, which was able to take down Salazzle.

"Salazzle is unable to battle, the winner is Crawdaunt!" the referee declared, as Busujima recalled Salazzle.

"Salamence, go!" Busujima said, sending out Salamence.

"That Salamence again!" Lynn exclaimed.

"Crawdaunt, use Ice Beam!" Crawdaunt then fired Ice Beam at Salamence, who evaded the attack on instinct.

"Salamence, use Dragon Rush!" Busujima ordered. Salamence then charged straight at Crawdaunt.

"Crawdaunt, use Blizzard when it get's in close!" Will instructed. Crawdaunt then waited until Salamence was close enough, then unleashed Blizzard. It didn't stop Salamence, but it was able to damage it. Crawdaunt was also still standing, "Alright, use Dark Pulse!" Crawdaunt then fired Dark Pulse, which struck Salamence hard, who remained unwilling to fall.

"Salamence, use Draco Meteor!" Busujima ordered. Salamence then fired Draco Meteor, which was able to hit Crawdaunt, and knock it out.

"Crawdaunt is unable to battle, the winner is Salamence!" the referee declared, as Will recalled Crawdaunt.

"Alright Mimikyu, it's up to you now!" Will said, sending out Mimikyu.

"Will's last Pokemon," Luan said.

"Even with the type advantage, Salamence is just too strong," Lincoln added.

"Use Play Rough!" Will instructed, as Mimikyu charged at Salamence.

"Use Flamethrower," Busujima ordered. With a mighty blast, Salamence unleashed Flamethrower, which sent Mimikyu back into Will's arms, knocked out.

"Mimikyu is unable to battle, the winner is Salamence! Therefore, facing Toby in the final round will be Busujima!" the referee declared.

"Whoa, I never thought Will could loose," Lana commented.

"Busujima..... He may be a total jerk, but it's clear he doesn't slack off when training his Pokemon," Lincoln commented.

"And now Toby has to face him in the finals," Silver Spoon added, looking at her boyfriend, who stared down intensely at the battlefield. Lynn was also looking at Toby. In her mind, she believed his showing up before the second half might have had something to do with Will's loss.

'Could Toby possibly be....?' she thought as the announcer came on.

"Talk about a major turn of events! We now have our two final trainers who will battle it out for the title of 'First Ever Alola Champion'! Who will win? Who will loose? You'll just have to tune in tomorrow, as these two talented trainers duke it out in one final battle!" the announcer declared, as people began leaving the stands.

"We should go see Will in the Pokemon Center," Silver Spoon suggested.

"Right," Fluttershy said, as they all left with the crowds, and made their way to the Pokemon Center.

On Team Rainbow Rocket's Carrier,

Giovanni was watching the semi finals in his office, "Hmm, these two show promise. Archer!" Giovanni bellowed. Just then, Archer came in.

"Yes sir?" Archer asked.

"Make plans to have our operatives procure these two trainers. They'll prove to be valuable assets to Team Rainbow Rocket," Giovanni ordered.

"Right away sir! is there anything else you wish of me?" Archer asked. Giovanni placed his hand over his mouth, in a thinking manner.

"Yes. Contact Proton's Team and have them on standby for that part of phase one," Giovanni replied.

"Very good sir!" Archer said, as he left the office.

"Very soon, my plans will come to fruition. It's so close, I can taste it!" Giovanni said.

Elsewhere, in the world,

"....Understood. Our squad is standing by," a man with cyan colored hair in a Team Rocket uniform replied, as he hung up his phone, "Alright troops! We just got our orders! Be on standby to begin the raid. The International Police must not be allowed to interfere in any way!" he said to the multitude of grunts he had in the camp, just outside a sprawling metropolis.

"Very soon, we'll be the big shots!" a Team Flare grunt said.

"I can hardly wait!" a Team Plasma Grunt replied.

"Commander, when exactly are we to proceed?" a Team Galactic Grunt asked Proton.

"If things go according to plan, first thing in the morning," Proton replied. The sound of rustling from the bushes nearby caught their attention. Out from them came a Geodude and a Mankey, "Well, it wouldn't hurt to bolster our ranks a little more," Proton said, as he chucked a couple of Dark Balls at both Pokemon, encapsulating them both, and catching them instantly. He then released both of them, revealing both had been corrupted, as they turned into a black mass, and evolved into Golem and Primeape, respectively.

"Whoa, these new, improved Dark Balls are amazing!" a Team Rocket Grunt commented.

"Yes, aren't they? They force Pokemon into their final forms by maxing out their power to the highest limit," Proton said, as he recalled both newly caught Pokemon.

Back at the Pokemon Center in the Stadium,

"Sorry about your loss Will," Fluttershy said.

"Eh, I'm not too bummed out about it. This isn't the first time I've been bested when entering a League tournament for the first time," Will replied.

"What do you mean?" Lisa asked.

"See, each time I went to compete in each regional tournament for the first time, I always wound up loosing before getting to the finals. When I loose, I just go to another region, train up my Pokemon there, and try again another time," Will replied.

"That sounds like a perfectly reasonable thing to do," Lincoln commented.

"So, what now?" Lori asked.

"Well, why don't you guys go get some dinner? I'll join you guys when I get my Pokemon back," Will suggested.

"Well, alright. We'll see you soon," Fluttershy said, as they all exited the Pokemon Center.
