Chapter 65: The Second Round (Part 1)

The next day came, and the stands were beginning to fill in fast. And our heroes were among the first ones to get some good seats in the front row, "Alright, the first matchup is going to be Gladion against Sergey," Lisa commented.

"Both are exceptionally strong trainers," Will commented.

"So, who do you think will come out on top?" Rachel asked.

"Hard to say. Sergey specializes in Dragon and Steel Type Pokemon, while Gladion has a team of Pokemon that have high attack stats. Plus, there's also Silvally," Will replied, as the battlefield switched to a sandy battlefield, as both trainers entered the arena.

"I know my brother is going to win this!" Susie said, as she suddenly appeared.

"Can we join you guys?" Nico asked, as she, and some of the Bandit Star Pirates, including Byakko, Ruby, Chaz, and Amy showed up.

"By all means," Will replied, as they took their seats.

"The first battle of the Alola Pokemon League Second Round will now commence! Each trainer may have the use of three Pokemon, maximum. The battle is over when all of either trainer's Pokemon can no longer battle! Furthermore, substitutions may be made as each trainer sees fit," the referee declared.

"Alright, I'll start with Zoroark's illusionary mastery to bewilder our ill fated foe!" Gladion said, sending out Crobat. Sergey sent out a Garchomp.

"Zoroark, the Illusion Fox Pokemon, a Dark Type. It creates illusions to drive off those who enter it's territory," Rotom explained.

"Garchomp, the Mach Pokemon, a Ground and Dragon Type. Garchomp folds in it's arm to fly at supersonic speeds. Other flying Pokemon learn a painful lesson about colliding with this Pokemon," Fluttershy's Rotom Phone explained.

"Hang on, if Gladion sent out a Crobat, then why did that thing give information on a 'Zoroark' thing?" Ross asked.

"It's Zoroark's Illusion Ability. It makes itself appear like any Pokemon in the trainer's party," Will replied.

"BEGIN!" the referee declared.

"Garchomp, initiate Dragon Rush!" Sergey instructed. Garchomp then leapt high into the air, and started rocketing at the disguised Zoroark.

"Use Double Team!" Gladion instructed. After images of Crobat began appearing, as Dragon Rush missed, "Now, use Dark Pulse!" Zoroark then fired Dark Pulse, striking Garchomp in the back.

"Garchomp, use Stone Edge!" Sergey instructed. Garchomp then struck the ground, sending Stone Edge at it's opponent, which broke the illusion, showing Zoroark, "Now, use Brick Break!" Garchomp then swooped in at Zoroark.

"Night Daze," Gladion said. Gathering dark energy, Zoroark then slammed it against the ground, causing a shockwave, that knocked Garchomp back, "Now, use Night Slash," Zoroark then delivered a Night Slash, which was able to knock out the Mach Pokemon.

"Garchomp is unable to battle, the winner is Zoroark!" the referee declared, as Sergey recalled Garchomp, and got out his next Pokeball. He then sent out a massive, green elephant like Pokemon.

"Whoa, who's that Pokemon?" Will wondered.

"Copperajah, the Copperderm Pokemon, a Steel Type. These Pokemon live in herds. Their tusks are strong enough to reduce large boulders to dust. It's green skin is resistant to water," Toby's Rotom Phone explained.

"So, it's a Steel Type," Will commented.

"Copperajah is one of my brother's strongest Steel Type Pokemon!" Susie exclaimed.

"Zoroark, use Flamethrower!" Gladion instructed. Zoroark then fired off Flamethrower, which struck Copperajah.

"Copperajah, use Heavy Slam!" Sergey instructed. Copperajah shrugged off Flamethrower, and then charged into Zoroark, which was able to knock it out.

"Zoroark is unable to battle, the winner is Copperajah!" the referee declared, as Gladion recalled Zoroark.

"Alright, I was saving this one for last, but I guess I need to go for the gusto. Now, Silvally, to my aid!" Gladion said, releasing Silvally. It's plumage and tail were both an orange color, this time, "I gave Silvally a Fighting Memory, so it could become the beast who's fighting prowess has no limits. Now, use Swords Dance!" Gladion said. Silvally then used Swords Dance, and powered up.

"Copperajah, use Heavy Slam!" Sergey instructed. Copperajah then charged at Silvally, slamming into the Synthetic Pokemon, who remained resilient, and remained standing.

"Alright Silvally, unleash Multi Attack!" Gladion instructed. Silvally, cloaked in an orange light, then charged into Copperajah, who fell to the ground.

"Copperajah is unable to battle, the winner is Silvally!" the referee declared, as Sergey recalled Copperajah.

"Whoa, that attack looked like it packed some serious power!" Clyde commented.

"I can think a few reasons why. For starters, Gladion said he made Silvally a Fighting Type with a memory disc, which also changed the type of Multi Attack, making it a good choice against a Steel Type, like Copperajah. Plus, Gladion also had Silvally use Swords Dance, which increased it's attack power," Will explained.

"And now, Sergey is down to his last Pokemon, while Gladion still has two of his. And one of them hasn't even battled," Girl Jordan added, seeing Sergey get out his last Pokeball. He tossed it, which released a Kommo-o.

"Kommo-o, the Scaly Pokemon, a Dragon and Fighting Type. Certain ruins have paintings of ancient warriors who wore the scales of Kommo-o like armor," Silver Spoon's Rotom Phone explained.

"Kommo-o is a powerful Pokemon, for sure. Gladion is going to have to play his cards right," Will commented.

"Silvally, take some time to recover your strength!" Gladion said, recalling Silvally, and getting his third Pokeball out, "Crobat, let's do this!" Gladion said, as he released Crobat, "Now, use Toxic!" Crobat then fired Toxic at Kommo-o.

"Protect," Sergey instructed. A green barrier then appeared around Kommo-o, as Toxic bounced off, "Now, use Thunder Punch!" Sergey instructed. Kommo-o then leapt into the air, with it's fist's cloaked in electricity, and punched Crobat, who still remained in the battle.

"Use Toxic, once more!" Crobat then fired Toxic again. This time, Kommo-o was unable to protect itself, and got hit, and became badly poisoned.

"Now Kommo-o will take more damage as time goes on," Will commented.

"Air Slash!" Gladion instructed. Crobat then used Air Slash, which was super effective, but was not able to knock out Kommo-o.

"Use Thunder Punch, again!" Sergey instructed. Kommo-o then struck Crobat again, knocking it out.

"Crobat is unable to battle, the winner is Kommo-o!" the referee declared, as Gladion recalled Crobat, and sent Silvally back out.

"Silvally, use Swords Dance!" Gladion instructed. Silvally did so, and powered up.

"Kommo-o, you use Swords Dance too," Sergey instructed. Kommo-o then used Swords Dance as well, and powered up.

"Silvally, quick, use Air Slash!" Gladion instructed. Silvally then used Air Slash, which did a lot of damage to Kommo-o.

"Kommo-o, use Sky Uppercut!" Sergey instructed. Kommo-o got in close, and delivered a powerful uppercut to Silvally.

"Quick, while it's close, use Crush Claw!" Gladion instructed. Silvally took advantage of Kommo-o being at close range, and used Crush Claw. Kommo-o fell to one knee after the attack.

"Use Clanging Scales!" Sergey instructed. Kommo-o then started banging it's scales, sending the soundwave at Silvally, damaging it. Kommo-o then glowed blue.

"Using Clanging Scales reduces Kommo-o's defensive power. Silvally, now, use Multi Attack!" Gladion instructed. Silvally then unleased Multi Attack, which was able to bring down Kommo-o.

"Kommo-o is unable to battle, then winner is Silvally! Therefore, victory goes to Gladion!" the referee declared.

"Man, that was intense!" Lincoln commented.

"Both Pokemon using Swords Dance would've made a difference in terms of offense, but I guess Clanging Scales sealed the deal for Kommo-o," Will added, as both trainers left the arena.

"Aww, I wanted to see my brother go further than that!" Susie whined, as the battlefield switched out to a water battlefield.

"Alright, moving on to our second match of the day, we have Guzma going against Nico!" the announcer said, as both trainers entered the arena.

"The rules are the same! Three Pokemon maximum, with substitutions being allowed on both sides. The battle will end when all of either trainer's Pokemon can no longer battle!" the referee declared.

"Alright, Golisopod, let's do this!" Guzma said, sending out Golisopod.

"In that case.... Corviknight, I choose you!" Nico said, releasing a massive, raven Pokemon, that looked to have armor on.

"Whoa, who's that Pokemon? It's.... magnificent!" Lucy commented.

""Corviknight, the Raven Pokemon, a Steel and Flying Type. These Pokemon reign supreme in the skies of the Galar Region. The black luster of its steel body can strike fear into the heart of any foe," Serenity's Rotom Phone explained.

"Alright, begin!" the referee declared.

"Alright Corviknight, let's start things off with Drill Peck!" Nico instructed. Corviknight swooped in at Golisopod, spinning beak first at it.

"Use First Impression," Guzma said, When Corviknight struck Golisopod, the Hard Scale Pokemon struck the Raven Pokemon, before going back to Guzma, and swapping out for a big, yellow spider like Pokemon.

"SPIDER!" Leni screamed, as she ran away.

"Galvantula, the EleSpider Pokemon, a Bug and Electric Type. It launches electrified fur as its means of attack. Opponents hit by this fur could experience three days and nights of paralysis," Serenity's Rotom Phone explained.

"Guzma must've gotten Galvantula from a Wonder Trade, in anticipation of battling a Flying Pokemon," Will commented.

"Just like with Armaldo," Lisa commented.

"Alright, Galvantula, use Electro Web!" Guzma instructed. Galvantula fired a ball of electricity at Corviknight, which expanded into a net, which caused major damage to Corviknight, as well as making it glow blue.

"Electro Web causes the Pokemon that gets hit by it to become slower," Will commented.

"Corviknight, use Air Slash!" Nico instructed. Corviknight then used Air Slash, which Galvantula seemed to tank, "Now, return!" Nico said, recalling Corviknight.

"Nico will probably try to use a Fire or Rock Type," Will commented.

"Now, Coalossal, let's go!" Nico said, as she sent out a black Pokemon, that looked to have a large pile of red hot coal on it's back.

"Whoa, that Pokemon looks so cool!" Toby commented, taking out his Rotom Phone.

"Coalossal, the Coal Pokemon, a Rock and Fire Type. Although peaceful, it turns hostile when the coal mines it makes it's home in get violated. Offenders are incinerated with flames that reach 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit," his Phone explained.

"Alright Coalossal, lets start things off with Rock Slide!" Nico instructed. Coalossal then hurled massive boulders at Galvantula, causing major damage.

"Stay strong Galvantula! Use Electo Ball!" Guzma instructed. Galvantula then fired a ball of electricity at Galvantula, that seemed to do sizable damage to the Coal Pokemon, "Great! Now, use Thunderbolt!" Galvantula then fired off Thunderbolt, which seemed to do more damage to Coalossal.

Meanwhile, with Leni,

She had finally managed to stop to take a breather, having fled the stands after seeing Galvantula. But now, she was lost in the corridors beneath the arena, "Which way do I go to get back up top?" Leni wondered, as she aimlessly wandered around. As she did, she walked past several important looking rooms, including the broadcast room, where the matches were being televised. She saw on one of the screens that Nico had just defeated both Guzma's Galvantula and Scizor, and was down to his Golisopod, which made quick work of Coalossal.

"Man, I figured these Galar Region Pokemon would be full of surprises, but this Nico kid is something else," one of the men working commented, as he and his partner were monitoring the machinery.

"Hmm, Nico seems to be doing well. But how do I get back up to the arena?" Leni wondered, as she wandered away. As she did, she heard some people talking, "Ooh! Maybe they can help me!" Leni said to herself, as she closed in on the voices. However, she stopped as she was able to hear them more clearly.

"Hmm, this Nico kid has spunk. Master Giovanni could use someone like her on the team," Leni could hear one of the men's voices say. Ever since she and her sisters got back from Boot Camp, Ross and Randy had drilled them all on how to act when listening in on suspicious conversations. Leni stuck to the wall, and stayed a good five or six feet away from the corner, as she continued to listen in.

"Well, I'm not surprised that Guzma poser lost. He was nothing shy of a common street thug. Nico had no chance of loosing. Now there's that Byakko kid. He has a sort of ferocity to him, but maybe that Toby twerp can draw it out to it's fullest potential," a second voice said.

'I don't understand. If they want to see the matches, then why not go to the stands?' Leni wondered, as she chose not to linger any longer, and went back the way she came, in hopes of finding a staircase, or an elevator.

Back in Toby's match against Byakko,

"Go Liepard! Use Assist!" Byakko instructed. Liepard then formed a ball of light on it's front paw, and fired Dark Pulse at Toby's Scizor, who tanked the attack, as they battled on an Ice Battlefield.

"Dark Type moves aren't very effective on Steel Types! Now Scizor, use Fury Cutter, again!" Toby instructed. Scizor then closed in on Liepard, and used a slashing attack, which knocked out Liepard.

"Liepard is unable to battle, the winner is Scizor!" the referee declared, as Byakko recalled Liepard.

"Gallant try, Liepard," Byakko said, as he got out his next Pokeball, "Alright, Bisharp, to the battlefield!" Byakko said, sending out a Bisharp.

"Bisharp, the Sword Blade Pokemon, a Dark and Steel Type. Bisharp leads a group of Pawniard, and keeps a sharp eye on them, to make sure none of them even think of double crossing it. No matter the strength, Bisharp will resign it's position as leader if the blade on it head ever gets chipped," Serenity's Rotom Phone explained.

"Alright, Bisharp, use Swords Dance, then into Iron Head!" Byakko instructed. Bisharp powered up with Swords Dance, as it charged at Scizor, who blocked the attack the best it could. However, it already sustained damage from battling Liepard.

"Quick Scizor, use U Turn!" Toby instructed. Scizor then struck Bisharp, before being recalled to Toby, and being replaced with Delphox.

"Delphox, the Fox Pokemon, a Fire and Psychic Type. When it stares into the flame at the tip of it's branch, it achieves a focused state, which allows it to see the future," Rotom explained.

"Delphox, use Double Team!" Toby instructed. After images of Delphox began appearing around the battlefield. Byakko smirked.

"How interesting. This makes the battle more enjoyable," he said, as he and Bisharp both became more focused then before, "Bisharp, home in Delphox, and use Shadow Ball!" Bisharp watched the movement of the Double Team, and fired a Shadow Ball, hitting Delphox.

"Stay strong Delphox! Use Flamethrower!" Toby instructed. Delphox recovered, and blasted Flamethrower at Bisharp, damaging the Sword Blade Pokemon.

"Quick Bisharp, use Night Slash!" Byakko instructed. Bisharp then closed in on Delphox, and delivered a powerful Night Slash, defeating Delphox.

"Delphox is unable to battle, the winner is Bisharp!" the referee declared, as Toby recalled Delphox.

"Thanks Delphox. You did great!" Toby said, as he got out his next Pokeball, "Alright, go, Heracross!" Toby said, sending out Heracross.

"Good move on Toby's part. Heracross is a Bug and Fighting Type, which is a huge advantage against Bisharp," Will commented.

"Heracross, use Close Combat!" Toby instructed. Heracross then opened up its wings, and flew in at Bisharp, and started attacking at close range. Eventually, Bisharp fell to defeat.

"Bisharp is unable to battle! The winner is Heracross!" the referee declared, as Byakko recalled Bisharp. Heracross also glowed blue.

"That move Heracross used looked powerful," Liam commented.

"It is, but it comes at a cost of defensive power. Toby needs to be careful when battling with Heracross now," Will replied.

"Alright, now the hunt can really begin! Now, Persian, to the battlefield!" Byakko said, releasing his Alolan Persian.

"But Alolan Persian are Dark Types, right? Which is the worst possible thing for Byakko to do, right?" Ronnie Anne asked.

"True, but Persian does boast considerable attack power. As long as Toby doesn't use Close Combat recklessly, he should be ok," Will replied.

"Alright, Persian, use Work Up!" Byakko instructed. Persian then looked like it was getting worked up about something, and powered up.

"Be careful Heracross! Persian has become stronger now! Let's use Megahorn!" Toby instructed. Heracross focused all of it's energy into it's horn, making it larger, before it charged at Persian.

"Use Play Rough!" Byakko instructed. Persian dodged Megahorn, and then unleashed Play Rough, which proved too much for Heracross, as it fell to defeat.

"Heracross is unable to battle, the winner is Persian!" the referee declared, as Toby recalled Heracross.

"Now Toby's down to just Scizor," Lincoln commented.

"Scizor has the advantage, but Persian shouldn't be taken lightly," Will commented, as Toby sent out Scizor.

"Alright Scizor, start off with Double Team! Try to keep Persian off your trial!" Toby instructed, as Scizor began using Double Team.

"Persian, use Dark Pulse, and spread it all across the battlefield!" Byakko instructed. Persian then unleashed Dark Pulse, that was spread across the battlefield. Fortunately, Scizor was able to evade it, but revealed itself in doing so, "There! Use Shadow Claw!" Persian then charged at Scizor, and started slashing away at Pincer Pokemon, that kept its distance, "Keep slashing until you make contact!" Byakko yelled, sounding more aggressive. Persian started attacking more aggressively, breaking the ice battlefield.

"Scizor, use Quick Attack, and get away! Then, once you get an opening, use X Scissor!" Toby instructed. Scizor then darted away with impressive speeds, hiding behind a pile of ice that Persian had dug up. Persian then charged at the pile, completely obliterating it, only to find Scizor was gone.

"What?!" Byakko exclaimed, as he looked around for Scizor. However, he failed to see Scizor descending from above, delivering X Scissor to Persian. The attack carried massive damage, but Persian remained standing. Byakko then roared loudly, as did Persian.

"Oh boy.... looks like Toby just lit the fuse for Byakko's fighting spirit," Nico commented.

"Persian, use Dark Pulse on the Battlefield! Smash it to pieces!" Byakko roared. Persian then leapt into the air, and fired Dark Pulse at the battlefield, breaking it apart. Scizor struggled to find a good foothold.

"Scizor, keep moving! Make it harder for Persian to get close!" Toby instructed. Scizor then started using Quick Attack to bounce off the large pieces of rubble. But it wasn't easy, given that the ice was still slick.

"Persian, use Night Slash!" Byakko roared. Persian then began to relentlessly attack with Night Slash, striking the ice chunks, as Scizor evaded all the strikes. This was in turn, making both Byakko and Persian far more aggressive.

"PERSIAN!" Byakko exclaimed, as he began to do the pose for Rock Type Z Moves.

"A Z Move!" Silver Spoon exclaimed.

"Now Persian, use Continental Crush!" Byakko roared. Persian leapt high into the air, and gathered up enough rocks to make the massive boulder, and hurled it at Scizor.

"Scizor! Let's counter with our own Z Move!" Toby exclaimed, as he did the pose for Steel Type Z Moves, "Tempered steel can break through any rock, no matter how big! Now, focus it on a single point! Use Corkscrew Crash!" Toby instructed. Scizor then charged at Continental Crush, will spinning at a high velocity, like a drill. Once it made contact, the boulder began to crack, as Scizor pierced through.

"Oh no! Where's Scizor!?" Byakko exclaimed, looking around for the Bug Pokemon.

"Now Scizor, use X Scissor!" from behind a large boulder that hit the ground close to Persian, Scizor leaped out, and delivered X Scissor to Persian, knocking it out.

"Persian is unable to battle, the winner is Scizor! Therefore, moving on will be Toby!" the referee declared. Toby, Scizor, and Byakko all fell to their knees, completely exhausted.

"Nice work Scizor!" Toby commended.

"So, this is where my run in the league ends..... well, if that's the way it has to be, then so be it," Byakko said, as he recalled Persian, and left the arena. Toby did the same with Scizor.

"Now that was a battle! Two Z Moves clashing against each other is truly a sight to behold! Well, anyhow, on to our next battle; Chaz VS Will!" the announcer declared.

"Well, I better get down there," Will said, as he got up from his seat.

"Same here," Chaz said, as he got up as well.

"Speaking of heading out, think one of us should go look for Leni?" Lincoln suggested.

"Yeah, you're right. I'll go look for her. Let me know how the match goes," Randy said, as he went to go look for his niece. Just then, Silver Spoon's Rotom Phone pinged.

"I just got a text from Toby. He's at the Pokemon Center with Byakko, getting their Pokemon healed up," she explained.

"Well, that's good," Fluttershy commented, as both Will and Chaz entered the arena, and the battlefield changed to a grassy battlefield. The referee once again explained the rules; three on three, substitutions may be made freely, and all three of the opposing trainer's Pokemon must be rendered unable to battle to win.

"Alright, for my first Pokemon, Glalie!" Chaz said, sending out a large, ice covered rock Pokemon with with two large horn like spikes at the top of it's head.

"Aggron, you're up!" Will said, releasing Aggron. And with that, the battle got underway.
