Chapter 48: Rescue Mission to the Aether Paradise (Part 3)

As the doors at the end of the Lobby opened up, the Ponyville friends and Hau were shocked to see a bunch of Team Skull grunts, standing in the path to a big white mansion at the end of the walkway. Gladion wasted no time in rushing past them all, only to be confronted by Guzma, who laughed cockily at his former lackey, "Team Skull? What is going on here?!" Hau exclaimed.

"It could be that whoever was behind this whole mess has been plotting with Team Skull from behind the curtains," Will commented, as five or six Grunts surrounded them.

"We got a bone to pick you chumps after what happened in Po Town!" one of the grunts declared, as he and the others released Mareanie, Grimer, Scraggy, Trubbish, and Raticate.

"Will, you go and back up Gladion! We'll handle these guys," Silver Spoon suggested, as she, Toby, Fluttershy and Hau all sent out Goodra, Glaceon, Metang, Steelix, and Raichu.

"Alright, stay safe guys!" Will said, dashing off to help the edgy trainer.

"You're strong, aren't you?" a grunt questioned, eyeing Will, who was quick to ready a Pokeball, "Easy there! I know better than to pick fights I know I can't win. You can go on through," the grunt said, stepping aside. Will, not to look a gift horse in the mouth, ran past, only to find all of Gladion's Pokémon on the ground, defeated. The edgy trainer in question was in shock.

"N-No! Was all that time alone, all that time getting stronger all for nothing?!" Gladion seethed, as Will stepped forth.

"The hated boss that beats you down, and beats you down, and never lets up. Yeah, big bad Guzma's in the house! I did that spoiled little brat a favor and crushed him. Yeah, that was me. Y'know, I kinda liked you, kid. Leaving home like that and wanting to get stronger and stronger. You had some real guts. Going so far as coming over to Team Skull. And rejecting your own mother?! That was impressive," Guzma commended, only to make Gladion scowl bitterly.

"That's enough Guzma! You've already been bested once, and I can do it again!" Will declared.

"Hey, no need to get all nasty on me. It's your turn, now! You little misfits keep getting up in my grill, like a cloud of smoke that I can't brush away. It's time I put out your fire at the source!" Guzma declared, as he send out his Golisopod.

"Alright Zebstrika, I need your help!" Will said, sending out Zebstrika, 'Most likely, Guzma's going to use First Impression, so I can only hope that Zebstrika can tank the attack,' he thought to himself.

"Razor Shell," Will was surprised when Guzma didn't initiate First Impression, as Golisopod charged at Zebstrika, striking it with it's shell blade.

"Zebstrika, counter that with Discharge!" Zestrika did as it was instructed, and flooded the battlefield with electricity, causing a tremendous amount of damage to Golisopod, who then promptly returned to it's Pokeball with Emergency Exit, and was swapped out for Pinsir, "Ok, now use Flame Charge!" Zebstrika then charged at Pinsir, while surrounded in fire.

"Use Earthquake," Guzma ordered. Stomping it's foot on the ground, Pinsir was able to stop Zebstrika's attack by causing a tremor, which damaged the Thunderbolt Pokémon quite a bit, "Now use Brick Break," with a powerful chop, Pinsir was able to knock out Zebstrika. Will recalled his Pokémon.

"You did your best," Will commended, as he readied his next Pokeball, "Alright, go Marowak!" he said, sending out Marowak, "Alright Marowak, use Flame Wheel!" Marowak then dashed at Pinsir, while surrounded in flames. When the attack connected, Pinsir then burst into flames, "Alright! Now try Hex!" Will added. Summoning some wisps, Marowak fired an energy wave at Pinsir, which took it's toll, and eventually knocked out the Stag Beetle Pokémon.

"Not bad, but I still have a few tricks up my sleeve," Guzma said, sending Golisopod back out.

"Golisopod is still weak from battling Zebstrika, so I need to land just one attack to finish this. Marowak, use Shadow Bone!" Will instructed. Marowak then charged at Golisopod, with it's bone club shrouded in shadowy energy, striking Golisopod with it, which was too much for the hard scale Pokémon to take, as it was knocked out.

"Thanks old friend. Take a rest," Guzma said, recalling his partner Pokémon, readying his third Pokeball, "Go, Masquerain!" Guzma yelled, releasing a small, bug Pokémon with four fluttering wings and two large eye shaped antennae on it's head. When it materialized, Marowak glowed blue, as it cowered from the Bug Pokémon.

"Masquerain..... it's ability is Intimidate. On top of that, it can use Water and Ice Type moves. Guess you had this one in your reserves in case you were up against a Pokémon that was good against Bug Types, eh Guzma?" Will questioned.

"You got that right! Now Masquerain, use Bubblebeam!" Guzma ordered. Masquerain then fired off the stream of bubbles at Marowak, who deflected them with it's bone.

"Nice one Marowak! Now try Flame Wheel!" Marowak then charged at Masquerain, coated in flames, and struck the Eyeball Pokémon, which was also able to knock it out. Guzma recalled Masquerain, and readied his last Pokeball.

"Alright, Ariados, get out here and help me out!" Guzma yelled, releasing the Long Leg Pokémon, "Shadow Ball, now!" Ariados did as it was ordered, and fired the shadowy blob at Marowak, striking the Bonekeeper Pokémon, who was still standing.

"Nice resilience Marowak! Now, let's keep up the pressure with Flame Charge!" Marowak once again coated itself in fire, and rocketed into Ariados, gaining speed with each strike.

"Ariados, use Spider Web! Stop Marowak from moving!" Ariados began spinning thread all across the field, trapping Marowak in some of them, "Now, use Shadow Ball!" Guzma ordered. Ariados fired off the Ghost type attack, which was able to finish off Marowak.

"Thanks Marowak! You did great! Take a long rest!" Will said, recalling Marowak, and readying his next Pokeball, "Go, Lairon!" Will said, sending out Lairon, "Use Automize!" Lairon glowed red, with sparks coming off it's body, "Now, use Head Smash!" in the blink of an eye, Lairon smashed head first into Ariados, sending the Bug Pokémon into a tree, as Guzma recalled his Pokémon. He appeared to be calm and collected, before he had another one of his meltdowns.

"GAH!?!? GUZMA! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! TIME TO LET YOUR VAUNTED TEAM LOOSE AND DESTROY EVERYTHING!" he screamed, before stepping out of the way, "Alright, ya beat me, so I'll let you pass," he stated, as the others soon arrived.

"Alright guys, we're heading into the mansion," Will said, as they approached the doors to the mansion. Gladion did the honors of opening both doors, to reveal Phyco and Soliera, of the Ultra Recon Squad.

"Alola, everyone. I understand you have business with the President of Aether?" Phyco asked. From his tone, and both his and Soliera's stances, the group indicated they weren't about to let them pass.

"Actually, we're here to rescue our friends, Lillie and Nebby," Will retorted.

"I see. If that's the case, then you'll need to see the President. Of course, right now, she's in the middle of assisting us in a matter regarding the Blinding One. As such, we cannot allow you to interfere with this matter," Soliera said, as she released Poipole.

"One of the Ultra Beasts," Gladion growled, as Hau stepped forth.

"You guys go on ahead. I'll handle these guys," he volunteered, releasing his Espeon.

"Thanks Hau! Good luck!" Fluttershy said, as she and the others all darted past the Ultra Recon Squad. They barged into the door the Recon Squad were guarding, to reveal both Lillie and Lusamine, the latter looking ashamed of herself for some reason.

"Will? Flora? Sylvia? And Toby too?! What are you all doing here?!" Lillie exclaimed.

"Isn't it obvious? We're here to rescue you and Nebby," Toby replied.

"You all came all this way just to rescue Lillie and Cosmog? This is working out better than I hoped," Lusamine admitted, her tone sounding broken, and full of guilt. She pressed a button on her mirror, which then revealed a warp panel, "I hope you lot can talk me out of this crazy plan of mine. Come through this way, and I can explain things better," she said, stepping onto the warp panel.

"Guys, I know you all have done so much for me, but I must be selfish in asking you this once again, but, please! Help Nebby!" Lillie begged.

"Don't worry Lillie. We'll get Nebby back for you! But I wonder what has Lusamine acting like she did something super bad?" Will pondered, as they all stepped on the warp panel, one by one.

In an extremely large room,

Lillie was the next person after Toby to exit the warp panel, as she looked around, "What is this place?" she wondered, as Gladion and Hau appeared from the warp panel. Looking towards the center of the room, surrounded by cryogenic stasis chambers, Lusamine was standing in front of a large computer, with a small, cubic cage by her feet.

"Come this way," she urged, as the group approached her, "Welcome to my inner sanctuary, where all of my beloved babies can stay for eternity," Lusamine said. The group gasped as they saw various Pokémon inside each capsule, looking like they were asleep.

"Please.... I'm begging you! Don't make Nebby use it's power! If you do, then it could die!" Lillie cried out.

"We can't afford to let any Ultra Beasts to come over to this world!" Gladion added, glaring fiercely.

"Really? Even now that I am trying to bring what we lost back to our lives, you both still have the nerve to talk to me like that?!" Lusamine's voice was still broken, but was now mixed with outrage, "The son who stole my Type: Null, and the daughter who stole my Cosmog! I am doing something good for our family, and yet you dare to demand something out of me?!" she screamed, tears streaming from her eyes.

"Wait... 'son'? 'Daughter'?" Hau questioned, looking at the three of them, before it hit him, "Wait, you're all a family?!" he exclaimed, as Guzma appeared through the warp panel.

"Hey, madam president! Ain't it about time to go through with the plan?" he called out to Lusamine, who bit her lip.

"Lusamine, what is this all about?" Will interrogated.

"You want to know why I am going such lengths? You want to know why I enlisted in the aid of Team Skull to help capture Cosmog? Well, if you must know, there are two reasons, both that are perfectly justified, even if I had to get the advice from that shady organization. First of all, I want to find my husband! He disappeared while researching those Ultra Wormholes! And the second reason is to take matters into my own hands in regards to Necrozma! I want to defeat that awful monster myself, because it is among the few Pokémon capable of opening those despicable Wormholes!" Lusamine screamed. Silver Spoon thought about something she heard when they were all back on Akala Island. While at the Dimensional Research Lab, she heard some of the researchers talk about how a man called "Mohn" disappeared while researching the Wormholes. She then thought about the man that operates the Poke Pelago islands.

"Could the Mohn that disappeared from the Akala Island lab and the one at the Poke Pelago Islands be one and the same?" she said, loud enough for everyone to hear her. Lusamine, Gladion, and Lillie all had looks of hope in their eyes.

"Wait, you said something about a Mohn that disappeared from Akala Island, yes?" Lusamine asked, a twinge of hope in her voice.

"Uh, yeah. It was one of our last stops on Akala Island. The Dimensional Research Laboratory. Some of the researchers there were talking about how a man named 'Mohn' disappeared while researching the Wormholes," Silver Spoon replied.

"Then there was a man named 'Mohn' that we encountered after the Wela Volcano Trial. He told us about somewhere called the Poke Pelago. We've been going there a lot to get Pokebeans and to help train the Pokémon in our storage boxes," Will added.

"What did the Mohn you encountered look like?" Lillie asked, ever hopeful.

"Well, I would say he's a bit on the chunky side. He had pale blonde hair and neon green eyes, just like the three of you," Silver Spoon replied, giving her best description of Mohn as she possibly could. Lusamine collapsed, fresh tears of joy flooding from her eyes.

"All this time, I always thought my husband was lost to the Ultra Wormhole. Now, I find that he's back in our world.... I was a fool to make that deal with that organization in the first place," she sobbed, happy at the thought of her husband was still out there. Lillie and Gladion were just as elated, knowing their father was out there somewhere.

"Lusamine, we can take you to go see you husband, but we would like for you to release Nebby first," Will insisted. Lusamine looked up at the senior trainer.

",,,, No. While I no longer have to fulfill my end of the deal I made, there is still the matter of Necrozma. I still plan to go and defeat it myself, just to prove a point!" Lusamine said, standing up, with the cage in her hand, "However, if you can defeat me, Will, then I will know I can't go and face Necrozma," Lusamine said, challenging the most experienced trainer of the bunch.

"Alright. How about a three on three?" Will suggested.

"Sounds reasonable," Lusamine agreed.

"Hau, Toby, Sylvia. The three of you keep an eye on Guzma, and make sure he doesn't do anything," Gladion said, not trusting Guzma not to interfere, as Will readied his first Pokeball.

"Alright, Muk, I choose you!" Will said, sending out Muk.

"Ok then, Milotic, I need your assistance!" Lusamine exclaimed, releasing a Milotic.

"Alright Muk, let's start things off with a Sludge Bomb!" Will instructed. Muk fired off the sludge attack at Milotic.

"Use Protect," Lusamine instructed. A green barrier formed around Milotic, shielding it from Sludge Bomb, just as the barrier went down.

"Alright, now use Disable!" Will instructed. Muk's eyes glowed blue, as a similar blue glow appeared around Milotic.

"Disable, a Normal Type Move. Prevents the target from using the last move it used for a while," Rotom explained.

"Alright, now use Toxic!" Muk then fired one blob of sludge at Milotic, striking the Tender Pokémon, which left it badly poisoned. It then glowed red.

"Mother's Milotic has the Marvel Scale ability, which increases it's defensive power by fifty percent if it has a status condition, like poison. I hope Will has a strategy," Lillie commented.

"That I do. Now Muk, use Venoshock!" Muk then fired more sludge at Milotic, which did a lot of damage, but Milotic was still standing.

"Milotic, use Refresh, then use Dragon Pulse!" Lusamine instructed. Milotic glowed blue, as it appeared to be cured of it's poisoning, before fired of the dragon energy beam, which had Muk skidding back.

"Nice resolve Muk, now, use Sludge Bomb!" Muk then fired off Sludge Bomb once again, which proved to be too much for Milotic to take, as it fell unconscious.

"Thank you old friend. You were most helpful," Lusamine said, recalling Milotic, and readying her next Pokeball, "Go, Lopunny!" Lusamine said, releasing a Lopunny.

"Wonder how she's going to use Lopunny against Muk?" Toby pondered.

"Lopunny, use Acrobatics!" Lopunny then started glowing cyan, as it charged into Muk, causing a lot of damage, "Since I didn't give Lopunny anything to hold, Acrobatics is much stronger," Lusamine stated, as the battle continued. However, unbeknownst to anyone in that room, a small, spying device was watching from behind one of the cryostasis pods.

In a big office room, somewhere on an aircraft carrier,

"So, Lusamine has decided to betray our deal? How unfortunate," Giovanni commented, as he and his cohorts watched the President battle Will.

"Well, we did anticipate this as an eventuality, but it matters not," Lysandre replied.

"Thanks to our scientist's tireless efforts, we should be able to open Wormholes without the need for an Ultra Beast on the other side," Cyrus added.

"How is the progress coming along, anyway, Professor Nanba?" Giovanni asked, as the image of the mustached man appeared on the screen.

"We've almost perfected the system. And we've been able to update the Dark Ball system to be able to capture Ultra Beasts with as much ease as the Beast Balls that the Aether Foundation provided us," Nanba replied.

"When can we expect the system to be done?" Ghetsis asked.

"I would probably give it about a week, give or take ten days. We have to be sure all the bugs are worked out," Nanba replied.

"Well, for an operation as big as this, it is important to take any and all necessary precautions. Very well. As you were Professor," Giovanni said, dismissing the call. They returned their attention to the battle between Will and Lusamine, as the former had just defeated the third of Lusamine's Pokémon. "As for these ones, we'll have to deal with them, personally," he smirked evilly.

Back at Aether Paradise,

Lusamine recalled her Tsareena, as Hariyama stood with Will, "There, now, release Nebby and give up this whole scheme!" Will demanded. However, Lusamine kept her grip on the cage.

"I thought you of all people would see this situation the way I would see it. Despite your victory, I am still going to face Necrozma on my own," energy began to pool up in Nebby's cage as Lusamine held it up, releasing some of the built up gas, which formed an Ultra Wormhole, "You'll see. This is for the best," she said, as she entered the Wormhole. Guzma was quick to react, and ran past the others, and leapt into the Wormhole, just as it closed up.

"And just like that, they're still going through with this crazy plan," Gladion commented. Lillie wasted no time in rushing over to Nebby.

"Nebby? What's happened to you?" she was shocked to see that Nebby had stopped moving. Instead, becoming like a cocoon.

"Could this be a result of it using too much power?" Toby wondered.

"We can figure that out later. For now, we should leave. Nothing good can come from staying in this place," Gladion suggested, as they all left.

Back in Lusamine's Bedroom,

Having left the inner sanctum, the group was greeted by Wicke, "Hello everyone. I assume things didn't go the way you wanted them to?" she asked, not seeing Lusamine or Guzma with them.

"No. Lusamine, she and Guzma went through the Ultra Wormhole to go and fight Necrozma themselves," Will replied. Just then, the Ultra Recon Squad came in. They looked anything but pleased.

"Did I hear that right?! The President went through the Ultra Wormhole to fight the Blinding One, just for a personal whim?!" Phyco seethed.

"Not only that, but Nebby has stopped moving," Lillie said, showing them the cocooned Nebby.

"Well, there's only one thing you can do to help now. You need to go to the Alter of the Sunne on Poni Island, where the people of Alola would pay homage to the Pokémon, said to be the incarnations of the Sun and Moon," Soliera suggested.

"So, we need to go and try to find Solgaleo and Lunala," Will commented.

"But it's late. Why don't you all stay the night, and head out tomorrow? We have guest rooms," Wicke offered.

"We may take you up on that offer Wicke. Thank you," Will replied.

"I'll sleep here tonight," Lillie said. approaching the bed, "In the room I would often share with Mother when I was young," she said.

"Alright. We'll see you in the morning," Gladion said, as Wicke showed them to their rooms.

The next morning,

Silver Spoon had volunteered to go and check on Lillie, but when she arrived, Lillie was no where to be seen, "Good morning Sylvia," she turned to see Wicke, standing in the main foyer.

"Hello Wicke. Uh, did Lillie go somewhere?" Silver Spoon asked.

"She went to go get dressed for you adventure for today. It's going to be a difficult one, as you'll be heading to the very heart of Vast Poni Canyon. It may prove more prudent to wait for her outside with the others. She'll most likely find you all out there," Wicke replied.

"Ok, I'll let the others know. Thank you for everything you've done for us," Silver Spoon said, as she left the mansion, and rejoined her friends. Off to the side, they saw Lillie, but in a completely new outfit. She had taken out her hat from her outfit, and did her hair up in a ponytail.

"Lillie?" Fluttershy questioned, as the girl in question turned to them.

"Ah! Guys! I wanted to try out this outfit I bought on Ula'ula Island. I wanted to change up my whole persona. I guess you can call this my 'Z Powered Form'," Lillie said, as she did the Normal Type Z Move pose, albeit weakly. Just then, Gladion and Hau joined up with them.

"Hey guys!" Hau called, taking notice of Lillie's new outfit, "Whoa, Lillie! You look amazing!" he complimented. Lillie blushed at the compliment.

"I found these in the storage area," Gladion said, handing a Master Ball to Will, and a blue flute with a moon like crest on it to Lillie, "That is the Moon Flute. My guess is that our mother was planning to use it in conjunction with the Sun Flute to summon the Legendary Pokémon and then catch it to add to her collection. Well, whatever the reason, I should take you all to Poni Island. The islanders there can help you find the Sun Flute," Gladion said.

"Thank you for doing this for us Gladion," Will commented.

"No problem. I know we aren't friends, but, I'm glad we aren't enemies anymore," Gladion stated.

"Actually, you guys, I'm heading back to Ula'ula Island," Hau said, getting their attention, "Don't get me wrong. I would love to go with you guys to help with this whole Wormhole mess, but, every time something happens, you guys always have to bail me out of a jam. So I'm going to take Acerola's Trial and the Grand Trial, while also training under Tutu, so that I can help fight back against any wrong doings," Hau stated.

"Very well said Hau. Best of luck in all your battles," Will said, as Hau used his Ride Pager to call for an Air Ride Pokémon.

"How about the next time we meet, we're all at the Pokémon League?" Hau asked.

"Sounds good!" Will agreed, as Hau took off for Ula'ula Island.

"As for us, let's get to Poni island," Gladion said, as he made his way to the elevator.

In a section of the Pokémon League Stadium,

Rita, Lynn Sr., and Rita's siblings were all coming to as they found themselves in a place that was unfamiliar to them, "Where are we?" Randy wondered, looking around.

"My guess, based on the oceanside view, we're on some sort of manmade island," Ross deduced, holding Lily's stroller, the infant of whom, was happily playing with a set of keys.

"Could this be what happened to our kids?" Rita wondered, noticing what looked to be an arena of sorts.

"Well, we can at least go and get some information from someone. There has to be someone here," Ross suggested, as they began a short hike down the path to the arena.

Somewhere near the Seafolk Village on Poni Island,

Clyde and friends had regained consciousness, only to find themselves in some sort of tropical clearing, "Ok, this is weird," Ronnie Anne commented.

"I would have to assume that we're on an island somewhere,," Zach commented, seeing the ocean, and a nearby village. They saw a cruise liner that was beginning to dock at the port.

"Well, maybe we should go find some information from that little town down there," Girl Jordan suggested.

"Sounds good. Beats just sitting around here," Ronnie Anne replied, as they began hiking down to the village. It was then that Liam saw something completely out of the ordinary, which also caught the attention of the others. It appeared to be a large, sauropod creature with four big leaves on it's back, and what appeared to be bananas growing from under it's chin. It was eating some fruit on a tree.

"What in tarnation is that?!" the farm boy exclaimed.

"I haven't the slightest clue, but it doesn't look like it's noticed us. We should try and keep it from noticing us, and continue moving toward the village," Clyde suggested, as they snuck past the creature.
