Chapter 52: Necrozma Attacks!
Exiting the cave, the group found themselves at the base of a flight of stairs, which looked to lead a mile upwards to what they thought was the alter, "Is that it?" Will wondered.
"Indeed," they all turned to see Hapu, walking towards them, "It was believed that the Trial held in Vast Poni Canyon was the very first trial in Alola, ever. The people of Alola would often come to pay tribute to the Legendary Pokémon, said to be the incarnation of the Sun and the Moon," Hapu said.
"Solgaleo and Lunala," Will commented.
"Right. Since you have both the Sun and Moon Flutes, you should be able to call upon one of them. But to do that, you'll need to head up to the alter, all the way up there," Hapu said.
"I was afraid you'd say that," Lincoln groaned, as the group started climbing, with Hapu giving Lillie a ride on Mudsdale up the steps.
25 minutes later,
The group was out of breath once they arrived at the alter, but were in awe at the sight they beheld, "Amazing!" Lucy commented.
"I'll get into position with the Moon Flute!" Lillie said, heading to one side of the alter.
"Luna, you're the musical one of your family, right? Then can I trust you to play the Sun Flute?" Will asked, giving Luna the flute.
"Sure thing!" Luna said, as she went over to the side opposite of Lillie.
"I thought you were a musician, Toby?" Lola asked.
"I specialize in the piano, not wind instruments," Toby replied, as both Luna and Lillie played the flutes. Just then, the pools of water at their feet began emitting a strange light, which flowed over to the big center ring in the mountain, which opened up, and fired a concentrated beam of energy at the alter. The others all cleared out of the way, as it hit. Just then, Lillie's bag flew off of her, and into the energy beam. The bag fell to the ground, while Nebby was the only thing floating in the beam. Just then, Nebby began to change shape. It became a massive, metallic lion creature with a cosmic looking forehead and eyes. It roared as it landed on the alter.
"Is that...?" Lori questioned.
"No doubt about it.... that's Solgaleo!" Will exclaimed.
"Nebby!" Lillie exclaimed, rushing to Solgaleo's side, "Nebby, I had no idea you had this kind of power, or that you could evolve into the Legendary Pokémon!" she said, as Solgaleo nuzzled her. It was an all powerful Legendary Pokémon, sure, but it was still Nebby on the inside.
"Is this kind of thing normal?" Ronnie Anne asked Will.
"It's the first I've ever heard of a Legendary Pokémon evolving into or from another Pokémon," Will replied.
"Nebby, I need your hep, once more! Please, can you take us to where my mother is?" Lillie pleaded. Solgaleo roared, sounding like it was complying, "Great! Now we just have to...." Lillie was cut off, when, out of nowhere, Guzma fell out of the sky, and onto the floor of the alter, "Eek?! Mr. Guzma?! What happened?!" Lillie exclaimed, as Lusamine also fell out of the sky, on top of Guzma. All of their Pokémon fell out of the sky too. They looked completely battered, "Mother! What happened?!" Lillie exclaimed, rushing to Lusamine's side.
"Lillie, you and your friends need to run!" Lusamine said, sounding like she was begging them to go. Just then, an Ultra Wormhole, which the group all thought the two trainers fell out of, looked like it was being forcibly ripped open but large, black, crystalline hands. And out of the Ultra Wormhole, a large, black, crystalline Pokémon emerged.
"Is that.... Necrozma?!" Lincoln exclaimed, as Necrozma roared loudly, as it opened several Ultra Wormholes.
In Malie City, Ula-Ula Island,
"Ok, that's the last of it!" Twilight called to the others, as they finished setting up for their next Swap Meet Carnival, when an Ultra Wormhole opened over head. From it, an Ultra Beast, resembling a castle emerged, slamming into the ground below.
"What's that thing?" Nathan wondered, as an ox shaped Pokémon appeared before them.
"What is going on?" Rarity wondered.
Akala Island,
Olivia was staring down a tall, white insectoid Ultra Beast that appeared rather feminine, "I had a feeling things would get rough. Good thing you're here too," she said, as Tapu Lele joined the battle.
Melemele Island,
Both Hala and Hau were facing off with an Ultra Beast that looked like a clown, as Tapu Koko joined them, "Are you here as a guardian, or just to fight? Either way, it would appear the other islands are facing similar threats. Come my grandson, let's deal with this creature," Hala said, as Tapu Koko charged at the clown Ultra Beast.
Poni Island,
The entire Bandit Star Pirate Gang were busy battling an Ultra Beast that looked like a bunch of living wires, with the help of Tapu Fini, "What is this thing?!" Mako exclaimed.
"I don't know, but we can't let it run rampant!" Nico replied, as they all went into battle.
Back at the alter,
"When Necrozma awaked.... it flew into a rage...… attacking everything around it," Lusamine explained, as Necrozma took notice of Nebby. Nebby looked like it was getting ready to lunge at Necrozma, which it then did. High in the sky, both Necrozma and Nebby began to duke it out. However, Necrozma smashed Nebby into the alter, holding it down with it's giant hand.
"No way.... the Legendary Pokémon was...." Clyde was at a loss for words. Everyone was even more so, as Necrozma then split apart, and attached itself to Nebby, as if it were armor.
"Necrozma.... it just equipped itself to Solgaleo, like armor?" Lincoln wondered.
"We have to help Nebby!" Will said, as he leapt into action, "Go, Decidueye, Muk, Marowak, Aggron!" Will said, releasing his four Pokémon.
"N-No! You can't win against Necrozma!" Lusamine said.
"I have to at least try. Now, Decidueye, Muk, and Marowak, use Shadow Ball! And Aggron, use Head Smash!" Will instructed. Decidueye, along with Muk and Marowak, all fired Shadow Ball at the Necrozma infected Nebby, while Aggron smashed it's head into the opposing Pokémon. All four of Will's Pokémon were swatted away, as Nebby then leapted into the air, imitating the sun, before rocketing at the four of them. sending them all skidding back, "Marowak, try a Shadow Bone attack, and Decidueye, use Spirit Shackle!" Decidueye fired off the arrow quill at Nebby's shadow, trapping it, while Marowak then struck with it's club. Necrozma roared once again, as it opened another Wormhole, before escaping into it.
"No... Nebby!" Lillie cried out, just as everything went unnaturally dark. Just then, the Ultra Recon Squad showed up, looking distressed.
"Necrozma.... it's stolen the light of Alola," Dulse said, looking around.
"And I really liked Alola's light," Zossie pouted.
"So, what do we do now?" Luan asked.
"Necrozma just woke up. It lost all the light it accumulated over the years. The only way to get back the light of Alola is to return said power to Necrozma," Dulse said.
"And how do we do that?" Will asked.
"Well, we did some investigating, and the light Necrozma lost is similar to the light you've all gathered from the Trials you acquired from your Island Challenge," Zossie explained.
"Wait, so you're saying that all Necrozma wants is Z Crystals?!" Guzma exclaimed.
"Well, it is true that Will and them have received a large number of Z Crystals during their Island Challenge," Lillie commented.
"Yeah, unlike those captains and Kahunas who only specialize in a single type of Pokémon," Guzma said.
"Another thing we found while investigating these 'Trial Sites' is that Alola means 'to share'. In that sense, we will share something that helped us get to Alola. We call it 'Ultra Ride'. You can use this to reach Ultra Megalopolis," Dulse explained.
"You can take it to reach the White Wormhole. Come and get us when you feel you're ready," Zossie said, as she and Dulse went off to the side.
"We should heal up our Pokémon before we go through the Wormhole," Will said, as he tending to his Pokémon. Toby, Fluttershy, and Silver Spoon all tended to their Pokémon as well, with the help of Serenity and Lillie.
"This sounds dangerous. I hope you're all ready," Lillie commented.
"We don't know what's on the other side of the wormhole, but it's clear the Recon Squad want us to help save Necrozma and Alola, so it's our only chance," Will said, recalling his Pokémon, and heading over to the Squad, "Ok, we're ready," he said.
"Ok, we'll call on Lunala to get you to Ultra Megalopolis," Dulse said, as he pushed some buttons on his uniform. Within moments, a large bat like creature, with wings that looked like the cosmos, appeared.
"So that's Lunala," Lincoln commented in awe.
"Here, wear these while you're riding Lunala," Zossie said, giving the four trainers some jumpsuits that looked like Ultra Recon Squad uniforms, which they all slipped on, "And remember, you need to go through the WHITE wormhole," she said, as the trainers got into position.
"Serenity, could you be a dear, and help nurse Lusamine and Guzma's Pokémon?" Fluttershy asked her daughter.
"O-Ok," Serenity replied, as Lunala swooped down, and carried them into an Ultra Wormhole.
"Be safe," Lillie said.
Inside the Wormhole,
Lunala, with the four trainers on it's back, flew through the Wormhole, in hopes of getting to Ultra Megalopolis, "Ok, they said to go through the White Wormhole, right?" Toby asked.
"Yes. So we need to get there as soon as possible," Will replied, as Lunala flew further into the vortex, collecting little spheres as it went along, which seemed to increase it's speed. They were doing well, until Lunala collided with an electrified sphere, which sent it hurdling into a Red Wormhole, along with our heroes.
On the other side of the Red Wormhole,
Dismounting Lunala, the four trainers found themselves on some kind of rock cliff, overlooking a sea of clouds, "This.... doesn't look like a city," Silver Spoon commented.
"So this is what happens if we enter a different colored wormhole," Fluttershy commented, as something flew over head, to an upper clearing, "What was that?" she wondered, as she went to investigate, along with the others. Once they got to the top of the cliff, they saw a swan like Pokémon, having just landed.
"A Swanna? In a world beyond the Ultra Wormhole?" Will commented.
"Well, I don't feel comfortable about leaving it here, so I'm going to try and catch it," Fluttershy commented, pulling out a Quick Ball, and approaching Swanna. Fluttershy then chucked the Quick Ball at Swanna, encapsulating it. The Quick Ball only rocked once before it clicked.
"Alright. It looks like Ultra Megalopolis is nowhere in sight. We should head back through the Wormhole, and try again," Will suggested, as they all returned to the waiting Lunala, and went back through the Wormhole.
Back at the Alter,
Serenity and Lillie were hard at work, nursing both Lusamine and Guzma's Pokémon back to full health, "Thanks kid, I appreciate what you're doing," Guzma said to Serenity, who nodded at him. Just then, Lunala came through the wormhole, with the four trainers.
"That was fast," Lynn commented.
"Eh, we didn't get to Ultra Megalopolis. We hit an electrified sphere of some kind, and wound up going through a red wormhole," Will replied.
"Well, all you can do is try again," Zossie suggested.
"She's right. Let's try again," Will suggested, as Lunala once again, took them through the wormhole
3 failed attempts later,
"Ok, this is getting annoying," Will commented, sounding less than pleased, as they were trying once again. Though the last few attempts weren't fruitless, as he, Toby, and Silver Spoon all caught different Pokémon as they went through blue, green, and yellow wormholes, respectively. Lunala got much further, as they neared a White Wormhole.
"There it is!" Toby exclaimed, as Lunala flew straight through it.
On the other side of the White Wormhole,
Exiting the Wormhole, the four trainers were met with an amazing sight. The entire city of Ultra Megalopolis looked to be made entirely out of black stained glass. In the center of it, was a large tower, which a beam of light emanating from it. In the street, there in front of them, they saw Phyco and Soliera, "So, you've come after all," Phyco commented.
"What's the situation with Necrozma?" Will asked.
"Necrozma has returned to Megalopolis Tower, there," Soliera replied, pointing to the tower, "When it awoke, it flew into a rage, attacking everything around it. And now that it's merged with Solgaleo, it is no doubt even stronger than before," she explained.
"There's no question that it may return to it's true form. Be careful if you're going to the tower," Phyco warned.
"We will. Thanks for the warning," Will said, as the four of them made their way to the tower. They boarded an elevator, which then shot up to the top most floor of the tower, "Necrozma. Didn't Rotom say that it's a Psychic type?" Will asked.
"I remember it saying something like that during out first visit to the Aether Paradise," Fluttershy replied.
"So, we need to hammer at it with Ghost, Dark, and Bug Type moves," Silver Spoon commented.
"Thank goodness that Metagross evolved during the last trial. It can lend some real muscle," Toby added.
"Indeed. Metagross does have incredible defensive power," Will replied.
"And I have Tyranitar too, so we have a Dark Type," Fluttershy chimed in.
"And then there's my Lycanroc, that knows the Dark Type Crunch attack and Haunter, whose a Ghost Type too," Silver Spoon added, just as the elevator arrived at the top of the tower. They exited the elevator, and proceeded up some stairs to the top, where Necrozma, still possessing Solgaleo, was at. A triangular, multicolored peg emerged from Solgaleo's head. Just then, a blinding light lit up the top floor, as Necrozma changed shape. It now looked like a massive dragon made of light.
"So... that's Necrozma's true form?!" Will exclaimed, as Necrozma roared ferociously.
"Now isn't the time to analyze! We have to defeat it now!" Silver Spoon yelled, as she released Azumarill, Lycanroc, Goodra, Glaceon, and Haunter.
"She's right! We need all of your guys' help too!" Toby said, releasing his entire team.
"Come out and help too!" Fluttershy said, releasing Primarina, Crabominable, Steelix, and Tyranitar.
"You guys too!" Will said, releasing Decidueye, Muk, Marowak, and Aggron, "Attack now! Keep hammering away at Necrozma!" Will bellowed. All of the Pokémon then began firing off their best attacks, which seemed to affect Necrozma a little bit. Necrozma then launched a Dazzling Gleam attack, which was able to damage all of their Pokémon.
"This thing's tough! We're going to have to hit it hard with some Z Moves!" Toby suggested, as he and the others got into position. Will with Decidueye, Fluttershy with Crabominable, Toby with Raichu, and Silver Spoon with Goodra, "Here we go Raichu!" Toby said, as he began doing the pose for Electric Type Z Moves, "The energy of electricity courses through our bodies, and our minds! Now, go and use both at once! Use Stoked Spark Surfer!" Toby bellowed. Raichu, now enveloped in Z Power, then began gathering tons of electricity in it's body, as it flew high into the air, before charging at Necrozma, slamming into it with a power electric blast. Necrozma seemed to be affected by that.
"I'll go next!" Silver Spoon said, as she began to do the pose for the Dragon Type Z Moves, "Raw, untamed power! Focus this energy into one powerful blast! Now Goodra, use Devastating Drake!" Silver Spoon bellowed, as Goodra became enveloped in Z Power. Goodra then fired off a dragon shaped projectile, which they all assumed as made of Z Power, which collided into Necrozma, damaging it immensely.
"The Fresh Fallen snow coats the lands. Now, to return it to the sky!" Fluttershy said, as she did the Pose for Ice Type Z Moves, which enveloped Crabominable in Z Power, "Now Crabominable, use Subzero Slammer!" she bellowed. Crabominable summoned a massive ice pillar from beneath itself, and then fired a beam of icy energy at Necrozma, causing a massive an ice cluster to form around it, before exploding. Necrozma looked to be getting weaker.
"I'll finish this.... let's go Decidueye!" Will said, as he did the pose for Decidueye's signature Z Move, "Archer of the forest! With precision so great, home in on our ill fated foe! Now Decidueye, use Sinister Arrow Raid!" Will bellowed, as Decidueye became enveloped in Z Power. Decidueye then summoned several arrow quills, and flew high into the air, before swooping down at Necrozma. The arrows hit it's shadow, causing an explosion that appeared to finish off Necrozma. The light on it's body dimmed, as several orbs of light began to flow off of Necrozma. It was then they saw that Solgaleo had been freed from Necrozma's grip, although it did look ragged.
Back at the Alter,
While they were waiting for the four trainers to return, the group that stayed behind saw several light particles that were flowing out of the Wormhole, "This light.... does this mean...?" Lillie asked.
"No doubt about it. They managed to stop Necrozma!" Zossie replied, as the light of Alola returned.
Back at Megalopolis Tower,
After Solgaleo went off somewhere, the four trainers had all recalled their weary Pokémon, just as Phyco and Soliera walked in, followed by about five Poipole, "Simply marvelous! You all have not only saved Alola and Solgaleo, but all of Ultra Megalopolis as well!" Phyco exclaimed, sounding ecstatic.
"You're welcome, but what happened to Necrozma?" Will asked.
"Necrozma has been stripped of it's light. Now weakened, it's gone off somewhere to recover. I doubt that's the last we'll ever see of it though," Soliera replied, as four of the Poipole started floating around each of them, seeming to really like each of them.
"It would appear that these Poipole have taking a liking to you lot. Why not take them with you? They're popular enough in Ultra Megalopolis to serve as what you would call a 'Starter'," Phyco suggested.
"Well, I have no objections to it. Do any of you?" Will asked. The three others shook their heads, as Soliera gave them each a Beast Ball. With that, the four of them all caught their own Poipole, as the Beast Balls teleported away.
"I understand you have another member of your little group. Could you take this fifth Poipole and tell her it's a gift to her?" Soliera asked, giving Will an empty Beast Ball.
"Sure thing," Will replied.
"Splendid! Though I doubt this is the last you'll see of us, we wish you the best on your travels!" Phyco said, as Lunala flew up to the tower, looking ready to take them back to Alola.
One Wormhole Ride Later,
Having successfully averted a crisis to the region, the four trainers arrived back in Alola, safe and sound, as Lunala returned to through the wormhole. They were all greeted by their friends, "Guys!" Lillie exclaimed, rushing to them.
"We assume you were able to defeat Necrozma?" Lincoln asked.
"Yeah, we did. Though it was a bit of a hassle getting it under control," Will replied, as he, Toby and Silver Spoon filled them in on all the details. Meanwhile, Fluttershy went over to Serenity, followed by the last Poipole.
"Serenity, sweetie? We brought a little gift for you from Phyco and Soliera," Fluttershy said, as Poipole floated around Serenity, looking at her curiously.
"A P-Poipole?" Serenity asked, as Will gave her the Beast Ball.
"Indeed. They wanted to give us each a Poipole as a sign of thanks for stopping Necrozma," Will explained. Serenity then used the Beast Ball to catch Poipole. Once it clicked, the Beast Ball teleported away.
"Lillie, you've made a lot of wonderful friends. How about we try a fresh new start, and try being a proper family again? Not just you and me, but your brother as well?" Lusamine asked. Lillie was shocked to hear her mother acting so friendly towards her after so many years, but was happy nevertheless.
"Of course, Mother!" Lillie exclaimed, as Lusamine approached Will and them.
"I can't undo what I've done to realize my desire to find my husband, but I just want you all to know that I am deeply, truly sorry for what I put you all through," Lusamine said sincerely.
"Hey, don't worry about it. You were acting based on what you thought was right. Anyone can make a mistake when they're like that," Will reassured. The others shared similar sentiments.
"Thank you all. By the way, the Pokémon League will be held in one month's time. I'd just thought I'd let you know," Lusamine said, as she and Lillie took off.
"I ain't gonna lie," Guzma said, drawing attention to him, "You guys are something else. And just so you know, I plan on entered the League myself. If there are strong trainers like you out there, I want to bring my A Game," he stated.
"But will the officials accept you as a participant?" Silver Spoon asked.
"She's right, seeing as your the head of Team Skull," Toby added.
"Not anymore. Once I get back to Po Town, I'm disbanding Team Skull, in order to go straight. Then, I'll see if Hala will be train me to use Z Moves," Guzma said, as he took his leave.
"And then there's just us two!" Zossie exclaimed.
"We discovered something while researching the Trials of Alola," Dulse said.
"And that is...?" Will asked.
"We found that the Z Crystals and the phenomenon behind the 'Totem Pokémon' as you call them, are a result of Necrozma's light, leaking into this world once it is lost," Dulse said.
"So, all this time, we've been fighting with the power of Necrozma?" Toby asked, eying his Z Power Ring.
"Well, yes and no. It's a little hard to describe," Dulse stated.
"Well, why don't we just leave it at that? Any more of that kind of lore, and my head will spin," Will suggested.
"Fair enough. With that, we bid you Alola," Dulse said, as he and Zossie took their leave. Now, the Ponyville friends and the Royal Woods kids were all alone at the alter.
"So..... what now?" Liam asked. His question was soon answered, as Mina appeared.
"Looks like you've all been busy," she commented, in her usually aloof way, "Am I right in assuming you guys are responsible for bringing light back to Alola?"
"We are, yes," Will replied.
"And I assume you've also cleared the Dragon Type Trial?" Mina asked.
"We did that before we got to the alter," Will replied.
"Well, then all that's left for you guys to do is to take on my trial. Come back to the Pokémon Center at the Seafolk Village to patch up your Pokémon, then I'll get you guys started on my trial," Mina said, as she took her leave.
"Well, we have no further business here. Let's head back," Will suggested, as they all left the alter.
On a beach on Poni Island,
A small, Pokémon with a silver liquid like body emerged from the water, and slithered onto shore. It had a gold, hexagonal nut like head, with a black ball in the center of it.
