Chapter 69: Quarter Finals (Part 3)

"Chandelure, use Will o Wisp!" Nico instructed. Chandelure then fired off Will o Wisp at Lucario.

"Lucario, Safeguard," Leo said. A barrier then appeared around Lucario, which repelled Will o Wisp, "Now, Bone Rush!" Lucario then summoned a bone like staff, and then charged straight at Chandelure. Lucario then proceeded to start hitting Chandelure, until it fell to defeat.

"Chandelure is unable to battle, the winner is Lucario!" the referee declared, as Nico recalled Chandelure.

"Thanks for trying Chandelure," Nico said, as she got out her next Pokeball, "Alright, let's see how you like this! Go, Sandaconda!" she said, sending out a rather peculiar, beige snake like Pokemon.

"Sandaconda, the Sand Snake Pokemon, a Ground Type. It stores sand in the pouch around it's body. If it runs out of sand, it becomes disheartened," Toby's Rotom Phone explained.

"Ground Types do have the edge over Steel Types like Lucario, but we'll see," Will commented.

"Sandaconda, use Sand Tomb!" Nico instructed. Sandaconda then manipulated sand to trap Lucario in a pit of sand, "Alright, now, use Mud Shot!" Sandaconda then fired mud at Lucario.

"Dodge by using Aura Sphere on the Sand Tomb," Leo instructed. Lucario fired Aura Sphere at the sand trap, and propelled itself out of the pit, just as Mud Shot nearly hit, "Now, Ice Punch," Lucario then used Ice Punch, which knocked out Sandaconda.

"Sandaconda is unable to battle, the winner is Lucario!" the referee declared, as Nico recalled Sandaconda.

"Man, this guy may be even more brutal that Busujima! It hasn't even been ten minutes, and he's already taken out two of Nico's Pokemon!" Silver Spoon exclaimed.

"Well, he hasn't won this battle yet. Nico may still have a trump card," Lincoln replied.

"Alright, for my third Pokemon, go, Garchomp!" Nico said, sending out a Garchomp.

"You're pathetic," Leo stated coldly. This caught the attention of not only Nico, but everyone in the stands, "You're wasting time on raising multiple Pokemon. A strong trainer only needs one, really strong Pokemon, and that's how it is with me and Lucario," Leo explained.

"Wait, is he saying...?" Ross questioned.

"That Lucario is his only Pokemon?!" Will exclaimed.

"Well, I agree with you that a trainer needs to have a strong Pokemon on their team, but have additional Pokemon to help doesn't hurt," Nico stated.

"You're a fool. And I'll show you this truth the only way I know how. Lucario, use Aura Sphere!" Lucario then fired Aura Sphere at Garchomp.

"Quick, use Dig and dodge it!" Nico instructed. Garchomp then burrowed underground, evading Aura Sphere.

"Lucario, sense where Garchomp is going to emerge, then use Ice Punch!" Leo instructed. Lucario then began to focus, trying to pinpoint where Garchomp was.

"That won't work. Garchomp, use Earth Power!" the ground from beneath Lucario started breaking apart, damaging Lucario, as Garchomp erupted from underneath. However, Lucario was still hanging on, and struck Garchomp with Ice Punch, knocking out the Mach Pokemon.

"Garchomp is unable to battle, the winner is Lucario! Three of Nico's Pokemon are unable to battle, so we will have an intermission for a field change!" the referee declared, as both trainers recalled their Pokemon, as the battlefield sunk into the ground.

"Leo is really strong. Having only defeated half of Nico's team in less that fifteen minutes," Lisa commented.

"Maybe Corviknight can help her out? After, wouldn't Fighting Type moves only half as effective on it, being a Flying Type?" Toby questioned.

"That could work, but we don't know enough about Corviknight or any of Nico's Pokemon from Galar to know for sure," Will replied, just as Fluttershy came by.

"Hey guys. How much have I missed?" she asked.

"That Leo guy already took out three of Nico's Pokemon. And Lucario is his only Pokemon," Will replied.

"Oh my, he must be strong to to that," Fluttershy commented.

"Sorry about your loss, Flora," Silver Spoon commented.

"It's fine. I'm not to broken up about it. I'm more about caring for all creatures, rather than having them battle," Fluttershy replied. Soon, the intermission ended, and a rock battlefield rose up.

"Alright, the second half of the battle will now begin! Whoever can defeat the opposing trainer's remaining Pokemon will move on to the semi finals! Trainers, send out your Pokemon, and begin!" the referee declared.

"Lucario, go!" Leo said, sending Lucario back out.

"Alright, maybe this one can do the job. Go, Kommo-o!" Nico said, sending out a Kommo-o.

"Lucario, use Ice Punch!" Leo instructed. Lucario then leapt into the air, with the intent of striking Kommo-o with Ice Punch.

"Kommo-o, intercept that with Sky Uppercut!" Nico instructed. Kommo-o then clashed upward, directly at Lucario, who was still able to land an Ice Punch. Some ice began forming on Kommo-o, "Uh oh," Nico commented.

"What's going on?" Rusty asked.

"It's a side effect of Ice Punch. It often inflicts frozen status on the opponent," Will replied, as Kommo-o became completely encased in ice.

"Alright Lucario, use Aura Sphere!" Leo instructed. Lucario then fired Aura Sphere at Kommo-o, which not only broke it out of the ice, but also knocked it out.

"Kommo-o is unable to battle, the winner is Lucario!" the referee declared, as Nico recalled her Pokemon, and got her next Pokeball out.

"Alright, Lucario has to be close to fainting by now, so Corviknight, let's try to make it happen!" Nico said, sending out her Corviknight.

"Lucario, knock that weakling out of the air with Aura Sphere!" Leo instructed. Lucario then fired Aura Sphere at Corviknight, who tanked the attack.

"Perfect. Now Corviknight, use Revenge!" Corviknight's body became enveloped in an aura energy, at it swooped down at Lucario, striking the Aura Pokemon, "Now, use Drill Peck!" Corviknight then started spinning, and charged beak first at Lucario.

"Use Aura Sphere, full power!" Leo instructed. Lucario then fired Aura Sphere, which was able to stop Drill Peck, "Now, finish it with another Aura Sphere!" Lucario did so, as it fired one last Aura Sphere at Corviknight, knocking it out.

"Corviknight is unable to battle, the winner is Lucario!" the referee declared, as Nico recalled the Raven Pokemon.

"Man, is there no end to this guy's winning streak?!" one spectator questioned.

"That Lucario is way too strong!" another added.

"Looks like it may be another win for Leo," another added.

"I'm not about to loose today! As long as I have my most trusted partner, anything is possible!" Nico said, gripping her last Pokeball.

"You talk as though having multiple Pokemon is something worth doing," Leo spat in disgust.

"We'll see about that! Now, Cinderace, let's go!" Nico exclaimed, sending out a rather athletic looking rabbit Pokemon, that looked to be wearing gym shorts, and knee high socks.

"Whoa, talk about cool!" Lincoln commented.

"Cinderace, the Striker Pokemon, a Fire Type. It's skilled in both offense and defense, and gets pumped up when cheered on. However, when it starts showboating, it can put it in a tough spot," Toby's Rotom Phone explained.

"Alright Cinderace, let's start off by Bulking Up!" Nico instructed. Cinderace then used Bulk Up, raising it's attack and defense power, "Now, use Blaze Kick!" With it's foot ignited, Cinderace then charged straight at Lucario, and delivered a powerful kick. This resulted in Lucario getting burnt.

"Lucario, use Bone Rush!" Leo instructed. Lucario then used Bone Rush, and chased after Cinderace, as it instinctively dodged each strike. However, one strike got in.

"We can't take any chances Cinderace! Let's finish this now!" Nico said, equipping a Firium Z to her Z Ring, and did the pose for Inferno Overdrive.

"This may defeat Lucario, once and for all!" Toby commented.

"Cinderace, use Inferno Overdrive!" Nico bellowed, as Cinderace then kicked the massive fire ball at Lucario, causing a massive explosion. When the smoke cleared, it appeared that Lucario was still standing, "N-no way," Nico was in disbelief.

"Heh, that's what happens when you rely on one trick to win! Now Lucario, use Aura Sphere!" Leo ordered. However, Lucario did not even move, "Lucario? Didn't you hear what I said?! Use Aura Sphere!" Leo demanded. The referee went over to look over Lucario, seeing that Lucario was unconscious.

"Lucario is unable to battle, the winner is Cinderace! Therefore, the final spot in the semi finals goes to NICO!" the referee declared.

"Man, all that stress was not good for my heart," Randy commented.

"Cinderace looks kind of cute, don't you think?" Serenity asked Fluttershy.

"Of course it does," Fluttershy replied.

"N-no, this.... this can't be! HOW COULD I LOOSE TO SOMEONE WITH MORE THAN ONE POKEMON!?!" Leo screamed, scratching his head furiously. He was then escorted out of the arena by security personnel, along with his Lucario.

"And with that, the quarterfinals have come to a dramatic close! Now, we have the semi finals to look forward to! As a refresher, here's who have earned their way into the final four! First up, there's Toby Mason from Mahogany Town! Next, there Busujima from Hau'oli City! Third trainer in the running is Will, another trainer from Mahogany Town. And finally, there's Nico of Turffield! The match ups for the semi finals will be announced later tonight, so stay tuned!" the announcer said, as everyone in the stands got up to leave.

"Who do you think will face who?" Leni asked, as they all walked.

"Well, there's a fifty-fifty chance of Toby and Will facing each other," Lisa commented.

"And I expect nothing less that the best out of you Toby," Will stated.

"R-right," Toby said, feeling a little pressured at the thought of battling his mentor.

"But there is also a chance that they can also face either Busujima or Nico," Lisa added.

"Well, I'd sure like to show Busujima just how far Incineroar and Tsareena have come since Melemele Island," Toby commented.

"And facing Nico would be a good opportunity to find out more about Pokemon from the Galar Region," Will added. He and the others noticed it was still broad day light, "Well, we have some time, how's about a little shopping spree?" he suggested.

"Sounds good to me," Silver Spoon commented. The others shared similar sentiments.

"We'll catch up with you guys later. We got to go see about something," Ross said, as he, and his brother and sisters left in a different direction.

"Wonder where they're going?" Lana asked.

"I think I have a good idea on where they're going," Lincoln commented, his calm tone suddenly turning sour. The group immediately knew what he was talking about.

"I guess you're not planning on forgiving the 'rents any time soon, huh bro?" Luna asked.

"I know I should be the bigger man and let bygones be bygones, but after everything they've put all eleven of us through, I don't know if I should," Lincoln replied, a tad harsher than he intended. The others flinched at his words, but could understand his anger.

"Well, why don't we leave this subject, and focus on some of the shops they have here?" Girl Jordan suggested, trying to ease her friend's anger.

"Yeah, that sounds good," Lincoln said, as they made their way to the shopping mall portion of the stadium.

Meanwhile, in the Stadium Jail,

Ross and his siblings arrived in front of their sister and brother in-law's cell, looking on at their incarcerated family, "So, have you two thought about what we talked about last time we were here?" Ross questioned.

"We have," Rita replied solemnly.

"And...?" Randy quizzed.

"You guys were right. Maybe we have been too hard on Lincoln," Lynn Sr. replied.

"That's right. You two could've prevent everything that happened to your family if you had acted like adults instead of relying on your daughters to make such a stupid and careless decision," Ross stated.

"You're right. We were acting foolish, and deserved everything we had coming," Rita replied.

"Good. Now that you understand, we'll try to coax Lincoln into trying to consider coming back to live with you guys. Though I wouldn't get my hopes up," Ross stated.

"We're willing to do anything to get him to see us as parental figureheads. He can even play Duel Monsters to his heart's content," Lynn Sr. declared.

"Well, while I think he'll appreciate that, it's probably going to take a lot more than merely bribing him to convince him," Rhonda commented.

"I'll talk to him about his demands, and bring them before you," Rachel added.

"So, until then, it'd probably be better if you guys stayed here," Ross decided.

"Probably for the best," Lynn Sr. replied.

"So, on an unrelated note, how's the tournament going?" Rita asked.

"Well, we're already down to the final four, consisting of some of your son's new friends he and his sisters made since they came here, along with a punk kid named Busujima, and a girl that goes by the name 'Nico'," Ross replied, as they all went into details about how the tournament progressed.

On Team Rocket's Carrier,

"So, have our troops been able to find any suitable recruits?" Giovanni asked a tall man, with silver hair, dressed in a tuxedo.

"Ah yes. We have two potential candidates. First being this punk kid Busujima. He battles ruthlessly, and his Salamence can use Mega Evolution," the man replied, showing footage of Busujima battling with Mega Salamence.

"I see. Now, what of this other potential recruit?" Giovanni asked.

"Yes. Her name is Nico. She hails from the far off Galar Region, and battles with Pokemon that we don't have any sort of information in any of our data bases. She also managed to defeat another potential recruit that outshined that Busujima kid," the man replied.

"I see. Well Archer, just keep an eye on these two. If anything changes, inform me immediately," Giovanni instructed.

"Yes sir!" Archer replied.

"Good. You're dismissed now," Giovanni said. Archer turned to walk out of the room. Giovanni then turned on a monitor, which displayed Professor Nanba, "Professor, how are things with the Project?" the leader of Team Rocket asked.

"With the help of Xerosic, things are going quite smoothly. We should have the suit's compatibility with the Dark Balls ready if not tonight, then sometime tomorrow," Nanba replied.

"Hmm. As long as it's done before the finals of the Pokemon League," Giovanni replied.

"We aim to please, sir. And our programming is completely flawless," Nanba stated proudly.

"See that it stays that way," Giovanni growled, as he hung up, "Very soon, my ambitions will come to fruition at long last," Giovanni smirked.

Back at the Stadium,

Our heroes had all sat down for some dinner, while they were sharing stories of their travels in the other regions before joining to Region Promotion Fair, "And that's how we got out that mess in Eterna Forest," Mike said.

"That sounds crazy," Connor commented.

"It was," Mike replied.

"So, any idea on what strategy you'll be using for the semi finals?" Josh asked Toby.

"I'm kind of still working on that. I want to keep it under wraps in case I end up facing 'you know who'," Toby said, looking over at Will's table, as he was conversing with Lincoln's aunts and uncles.

"So that's how it's going to go down?" Will asked.

"Yep. Rachel and Lincoln will go over his demands to his parents, and if they agree to them, he'll try to let bygones be bygones," Ross replied, as they continued talking. Meanwhile, Fluttershy was eating her dinner with her friends.

"sorry about your loss Flora," Twilight said.

"It's fine, really. I got over it rather quickly," Fluttershy replied.

"That Busujima kid seemed more ornery than a rattler with a toothache," Applejack commented.

"And the fact he used Mega Evolution came as a shock too," Rarity added.

"Makes you wonder who he'll battle in the next round," Rainbow Dash added.

"Well, both he and Toby seem to have a sort of rivalry going on since they first met, and they don't really agree with the other's training methods," Fluttershy replied.

"Sound's like a real piece of work," Twilight commented. Just then, the PA System came on, and images of the final four trainers appeared on a TV screen.

"Looks like they're getting ready to make the final selection," Silver Spoon commented, as everyone turned their attention to the TV.

"Alright Pokemon fans, the wait is finally over, and the match ups for the semi finals are ready to be decided! And without further ado, our computer will now randomly choose the matchups!" the announcer said, as the pictures were getting shuffled around, before turning over to reveal the matchups, "For our first match, we have Toby VS Nico! Then after that, will be a battle between Will and Busujima! How will these battles turn out? You'll all just have to tune in and find out!" the announcer declared.

"So I'm going to be facing Nico," Toby commented, a tone on uncertainty in his voice.

"You'll do fine Toby," Josh said, reassuring his friend.

"Me against Busujima. This should be quite interesting," Will commented.

On Akala Island, at the Northern Motel,

Gladion was hurrying along, trying to get to the meeting place as soon as possible. He had gotten a call from Wicke about a development that Gladion couldn't ignore, even if he wanted to. He soon arrived at the motel, "Ah, so you've come back?" the worker questioned.

"I have a meeting with someone," Gladion replied, his tone ever so serious.

"Well, I was told to tell you to go to room Four," the worker replied, giving Gladion a key.

"Thank you," the edgy trainer said, as he went to the room. Once there, he saw Wicke, along with three other people he didn't recognize.

"Ah, so good of you to come, young master Gladion," Wicke greeted kindly.

"Hello Wicke. I take these people have something to do with why you called me here?" Gladion asked.

"Yes. Allow me to introduce Detectives Looker and Annabelle of the International Police, and N, a Trainer that Annabelle found while investigating what we're going to talk about," Wicke said, as Gladion closed the door behind him, as they began to discuss.
