Chapter 49: The Ruins of Hope

It took about 25 minutes to reach Poni Island from the Aether Paradise, as the Ponyville friends and Lillie all arrived, thanks to Gladion, "If you want to find the Sun Flute, you'll need to first talk to the Kahuna of this Island. They'll know where to find it," Gladion said, before he took off in his boat.

"Alright, but before we find the kahuna, we should go find Serenity and the Louds," Will said, as they ventured into the Village.

"Ahoy there!" a voice called out. From atop of one boats, a blonde woman that looked to be a hippy, covered in paint splatters all across her outfit. She leapt down off of the boat, and landed safely on the pier, "I don't think I've ever seen you guys here before," the woman said.

"We just arrived here a little bit ago. We're trying to find the Kahuna and some of our friends," Will said.

"Hmm. Why not try asking little Hapu about the Kahuna? She'll probably know something. I'm Mina, by the way," the woman introduced herself, before taking closer notice of Fluttershy, "Whoa.... pink!" she commented, looking at Fluttershy's hair.

"Well, it sounds like a good enough lead. We'll heal up our Pokémon, before we head out," Will suggested. Fluttershy awkwardly pardoned herself from Mina's gaze, as she and the others went on their way to the Pokémon Center, which wasn't terribly difficult to find. Another group, consisting of four boys and two girls, were also making their way towards the Pokémon Center. The Ponyville group went in first, followed by the six kids. The four trainers immediately went to the front counter.

"Hello, and welcome to the Pokémon Center," Nurse Joy greeted.

"Hello Nurse Joy. Could you take care of our Pokémon?" Will asked, as the four trainers gave her their Pokeballs.

"Of course. You can count on me," Nurse Joy replied, inserting each Pokeball into the healing machine.

"By the way, a large group of kids wouldn't have come in by any chance, would they? About maybe eleven? Ten girls, one of them having pink hair, and one boy with white hair?" Toby asked. This caught the attention of the six kids, that were sitting in the lobby.

"Why yes. They arrived last night. Though, the pink haired girl seemed a little skittish," Nurse Joy commented. No sooner than she said that, Serenity came out of the back, followed closely by the Louds.

"Serenity!" Fluttershy called out quietly, getting the attention of her daughter.

"M-Mommy" Serenity whispered, almost inaudibly, as she rushed over to her mother.

"Sorry we took long. We hit a few snags," Toby commented.

"Well, we have some time while your Pokémon are being healed. Why don't we find a place in the lounge so you can tell us what happened?" Lincoln suggested.

"While you're at it, why don't you tell us about what you've been up to, Lame-o?" a girl's voice asked, one that Lincoln and his sisters all recognized. They turned to see the group of kids, sitting in the lobby.

"Ronnie Anne?! Clyde?! Zach, Rusty, Liam and Girl Jordan too?! What are you guys doing here?!" Lincoln questioned, rushing to his friends.

"We got here the same way you and sisters did. Through some kind of portal," Clyde replied, giving a rather, untrusting look to his best friend's sisters.

"I assume these are some of your friends from Royal Woods, Lincoln?" Toby asked.

"Yeah. Guys, this is Toby Mason. I met him and his friends the first day we arrived in this world. Toby, these are my friends, Ronnie Anne Santiago, Clyde McBride, Zach Gurdle, Rusty Spokes, Girl Jordan, and Liam," Lincoln said, introducing his friends to one another. Toby then exchanged greetings with Lincoln's hometown friends, "So, you guys are all probably wondering where you are, right?" the white haired child asked his friends.

"Yeah. We kinda figured we weren't in Michigan anymore when we saw some kind of creature that had leaves growing out of it's back in a nearby field," Rusty replied. Lincoln then began to explain the kind of world they were in now, and that the creature they saw was called a "Pokémon".

"That's.... kind of a lot to take in, but you've been here longer, so, why question it?" Clyde asked.

"But that raises a question; what exactly is one of these 'Pokémon' things?" Zach asked.

"I can answer that. See, this world is inhabited by hundreds, if not, thousands of mysterious creatures with amazing powers," Will explained.

"I actually caught one here the other day," Lincoln said, releasing his Toxapex, who yawned lazily upon being released.

"It's so.... spikey," Girl Jordan commented.

"This particular Pokémon's name is 'Toxapex'. An example of a Pokémon with a Poison and Water Typing. This one evolved from a Mareanie I caught," Lincoln explained.

"What do you mean 'evolve'?" Liam asked. Will then took the reigns and explained that Pokémon grow and evolve into even stronger forms as they battle.

"Ok, but isn't making animals fight illegal?" Clyde asked, wary of the thought of battling.

"Not at all. In fact, Pokémon Battles are among the most watched sporting events there is in this world. In fact, a big tournament is going to be opening up soon, where trainers from all over the Alola region are coming to compete for a shot to become the champion," Will explained. Clyde nodded, as the bell went off. The four trainers went to reclaim their Pokeballs.

"So, what kind of Pokémon do you all have?" Ronnie Anne asked.

"Here's some of mine," Toby replied, releasing Metang, Flareon, and Mawile.

"Oh cool, they all look really cool!" Rusty commented, looking at each of Toby's Pokémon.

"I like to mainly use Steel, Psychic, Fire, or Dragon Types," Toby replied, recalling his Pokémon, before heading over to the PC to switch out his Pokémon.

"Ok, so just to recap; We were transported to another dimension full of strange animals with superpowers that can be caught and tamed," Zach commented.

"Pretty much. Though, it would be worth it to stay here a while. This Alola place has a lot to offer," Lincoln replied.

"Y'know, maybe we will stay here. A nice tropical vacation would do us a lot good," Ronnie Anne replied, just as Toby came back.

"Alright, I changed up my team, so I'm ready," Toby commented.

"Alrighty then. We're heading out to Hapu's house, which is just past the field you guys say you saw that Pokémon," Will commented.

"We're leaving already?" Girl Jordan questioned.

"Yep. We've got a bit of a situation on our hands," Will replied, as the large group exited the Pokémon Center, and made their way north of the Village.

It was difficult traversing the uneven terrain of the Poni Island wilderness, but they were able to make it to what appeared to be a house made entirely of what looked to be sandstone. Behind it, a vast canyon, which also looked like sandstone. It was then that the Ponyville friends, Lillie, and the Louds saw a familiar sight, in the form of Mudsdale, who bellowed loudly at the sight of the large group, "Mudsdale! It's been a while since we've seen you," Lillie commented, getting nuzzled by the Draft Horse Pokémon.

"And where there's Mudsdale, Hapu can't be too far away," Toby commented, as the girl in question exited the house.

"Well, I haven't seen y'all in quite a while," Hapu commented, seeing Lincoln's friends from Royal Woods, "And I see ya have company," she commented.

"Ah, right. Hapu, these are some of my friends from Royal Woods; Clyde, Ronnie Anne, Liam, Rusty, Zach, and Girl Jordan. Guys, this is Hapu. We've encountered her a few times while travelling Alola," Lincoln introduced both sides.

"Pleased to meet y'all," Hapu said, before taking notice of Lillie, "Lillie? Is that you girl?" the little farm girl asked.

"Of course! Everyone's trying to do their best, which is what I'm going for too, in my Z Powered Mode!" Lillie declared.

"Well, ain't that nice? So, what brings y'all to Poni Island?" Hapu asked.

"We need to speak to the kahuna regarding the Legendary Pokémon. Do you know where we can find them?" Will asked.

"The kahuna? Afraid we don't have one on this island?" Hapu simply replied.

"WHAT?!" everyone, apart from Lincoln's friends, who were clueless as to what was going on, screeched.

"Well, I guess it's high time I get over to the Ruins of Hope. You can find it along the coast line, over there," Hapu said, as she and Mudsdale left for the coastline.

"While I want to complain about coming all the way out here for nothing, it sounds like Hapu must know something about the Legendary Pokémon," Lola commented.

"These 'Legendary Pokémon' you guys keep mentioning, are they that special that you're making a big fuss about?" Clyde asked.

"Of course, Clyde, was it? The Legendary Pokémon we're looking for is either the incarnation of the sun, Solgaleo, or the incarnation of the Moon, Lunala," Will explained.

"Apparently, those two are powerful enough to open Ultra Wormholes," Toby added, as they all went to follow Hapu, only to hear a voice.

"Before you go," an old woman said, appearing from behind a stone wall, startling the group, "Sorry for the scare, but would I be correct in assuming you all are friends with Hapu?" the old woman asked.

"Uh, yes. We've bumped into each other throughout Alola," Will replied.

"Well, I am her Grandmother, and I am grateful to all of you. Hapu has always lived a lonely life. Only her Pokémon were her friends. But now that she has so many wonderful friends. Here, let me give you something that'll help you out in your travels," Hapu's Grandmother said, taking each of the Ride Pagers. After a few moments, she gave back the Pagers, "I went and registered Machamp into each of your pagers. You can call upon Machamp to help shove large boulders out of the way and make new paths," she explained.

"Thank you for this. We are truly grateful," Will said, as they all ventured towards the coast line.

Walking through what the group could describe as a geyser field, they saw an opening along the wall. On the walkway, idols that the trainers recognized from their previous ventures to the other Ruins, "Well, I think we can find the Ruins of Hope down that way," Will commented, as they walked through the entrance. Soon, they came to an opening that looked like it should be at the bottom of the sea. They quickly took notice of Mudsdale.

"Mudsdale! I take it Hapu went inside the Ruins?" Lillie asked the massive Pokémon, who just bellowed.

"Why would Hapu go into some ruins?" Girl Jordan asked.

"My guess is Tapu Fini, the Island Guardian. You see, it's the Guardian Pokémon that chooses the Kahunas of each island. I read in a book that Tapu Fini can use mystical water to wash away impurities," Lillie replied.

"That sounds promising," Silver Spoon commented, as they descended the stairs. Eventually coming to the entrance.

"Well, here goes nothing," Will said, as he led them into the ruins. Inside, they saw several large boulders, blocking the way to the door on the far end of the room.

"Well, if it's just moving some giant boulders, this should be a cinch!" Lynn said, as she went to try and push one out of the way, only to slip and fall flat on her face, "Oof, these things must weigh a ton or fifty," she commented.

"We need a lot of muscle to move stone this big. And I think we have just that," Will said, pulling out his Ride Pager. He selected Machamp, and in moments, he found himself behind help bridal style by a massive, muscular Pokémon with four arms, in black briefs, held up by a golden belt, "Whoa, wasn't expecting this!" Will commented.

"So, what happens now?" Rusty asked.

"My guess is that Machamp is going to move all those boulders out of the way," Lincoln theorized.

"All on it's own?" Zach questioned.

"Let me explain! Machamp, the Superpower Pokémon, a Fighting Type. Machamp boasts incredible physical power. Though in terms of jobs that require precision, it's hands can get all tangled up," Rotom explained, as Machamp went over to the boulder Lynn tried to move. Placing it's other two hands on the rock, Machamp began to easily push the boulder out of the way, and into a hole. Everyone was amazed at how easy Machamp was making it look, as it moved the last block out of the way, clearing a path to the inner most chambers. Will was let down by Machamp, as it disappeared.

"Ok, that was impressive," Lisa commented, as they continued into the inner most room. inside, they saw that there was a wooden floor in the center of a stone floor. At the far end was an alter, where Hapu was standing in front of an idol, that was glowing.

"What's going on here?" Liam wondered.

"It's just as I told you. Tapu Fini must be crowning Hapu as the next Kahuna of Poni Island," Lillie replied, as a glowing Z Ring descended into Hapu's hands.

"I thank you for this blessing. As Kahuna, I will do my best for both people and Pokémon of Poni Island and all of Alola," Hapu said, as she descended the stairs, "Lillie, as the newly crowned Kahuna of Poni Island, I will tell you of the details surrounding the Legendary Pokémon," Hapu said, as they all exited the Ruins, and made their way back to the Seafolk Village.

When i finally get back to the Pokemon League Arc of this story, i plan on having the five Ponyville Friends trade with Nico for some of her Galarian Pokemon. I was thinking of having Toby recieve Hattarene as an example. Let me know what kind of Pokemon you want the others to recieve in exchange for one of their Pokemon.
