Chapter 68: Quarter Finals (Part 2)

Fluttershy and Busujima entered the arena, as the battlefield switched to a water battlefield. Both trainers, and the referee took their places, "Alright, the second match for the Alola Pokemon League Quarter Finals will now get underway! Both trainers will use all six of their Pokemon, and only when all of either side's Pokemon is deemed unable to battle will this battle end! Substitutions may be made at anytime! When three of either trainer's Pokemon can not continue, there will be a 15 minute intermission for a field change. Now then, trainers, choose your first Pokemon!" the referee proclaimed.

"Salazzle, get out here!" Busujima said, sending out his Salazzle.

"A Fire and Poison Type right off. Just as I expected of Busujima. In that case, Primarina, let's go!" Fluttershy said, sending out her Primarina.

"Alright, battle begin!" the referee declared.

"Primarina, dive into the water!" Fluttershy called out. Primarina did so, and began swimming around Salazzle, "This way, Busujima won't be able to find Primarina," Fluttershy commented.

"Salazzle, use Dragon Pulse on the water!" Busujima instructed. Salazzle then fired Dragon Pulse into the pool, which caused an explosion that drew out Primarina, "Now, use Toxic!" Salazzle then fired Toxic at Primarina, which badly poisoned the Soloist Pokemon, "Now, Venoshock!" Salazzle then fired Venoshock at Vaporeon, which was able to knock it out.

"Primarina is unable to battle, the winner is Salazzle!" the referee declared, as Fluttershy recalled Vaporeon.

"The battle just began, and Flora already lost one Pokemon!" Lynn exclaimed.

"Busujima must've done a lot of training with his Pokemon. A Fire Type like Salazzle should've been at a major disadvantage against Primarina. Then again, being a Fairy Type against a Poison Type, Primarina was also at a disadvantage," Lisa commented.

"Alright, for my next Pokemon, Toucannon, let's go!" Fluttershy said, sending out her Toucannon, "Alright Toucannon, use Beak Blast!" Fluttershy instructed. Toucannon's beak began to turn red.

"What's it doing?" Girl Jordan asked.

"Beak Blast is Toucannon's signature move. It heats up it's beak, and then fires a shot at it's opponent. What's more, if the opponent attacks directly, then they'll end up with Burn status. Though that's not really useful against Salazzle, being a Fire Type," Lincoln explained.

"Salazzle, return! Go, Muk!" Busujima said, recalling Salazzle, and sending out Muk. It was then that Toucannon fired Beak Blast, which Muk seemed to tank, "Use Sludge Bomb!" Muk then started firing Sludge Bomb, at Toucannon, who instinctively dodged.

"Toucannon, use Brave Bird!" Fluttershy instructed. Toucannon then surrounded itself in energy, as it divebombed at Muk.

"Use Poison Gas when it gets in close!" Busujima instructed. Muk waited until Toucannon was in close, before belching out Poison Gas right in Toucannon's face. Toucannon was poisoned, but was still able to hit Muk. However, it took recoil damage from Brave Bird, "Alright, now use Dark Pulse!" Muk then fired Dark Pulse, striking Toucannon.

"Not good. Toucannon, return!" Fluttershy said, recalled Toucannon.

"Good call. Toucannon took some damage from Brave Bird, on top of getting poisoned, so switching out Toucannon was a smart move," Will commented.

"Alright, go, Smeargle!" Fluttershy said, sending out Smeargle.

"I completely forgot she had one!" Silver Spoon commented.

"Smeargle, use Whirlpool!" Fluttershy instructed. Smeargle then summoned a tornado of water, and threw it into the water, trapping Muk in the water, as it spun around, "Now, use Discharge!" Smeargle then used Discharge, which electrified the pool, damaging Muk in the process.

"Muk, use Mud Bomb!" Busujima instructed. Muk then fired Mud Bomb at Smeargle, damaging the Painter Pokemon.

"Smeargle, use Discharge, once more!" Fluttershy instructed. Smeargle then fired Discharge into the pool, striking Muk, and knocking it out.

"Muk is unable to battle, the winner is Smeargle!" the referee declared, as Busujima recalled Muk, and readied his next Pokeball.

"Go, Kangaskhan!" Busujima said, sending out a Kangaskhan.

"Both Smeargle and Kangaskhan are Normal Types. It'll all depend on what types of moves both of them taught their Pokemon," Will commented.

"Smeargle, use Arm Thrust!" Fluttershy instructed. Smeargle then charged at Kangaskhan, then delivered several Arm Thrusts, which pushed Kangaskhan back.

"Heh, I had a feeling I would encounter someone with that kind of strategy, that's why I have a plan up my sleeve. Now Kangaskhan, use Counter!" Busujima instructed. Kangaskhan then delivered a powerful punch, that sent Smeargle back into the wall, knocked out.

"Smeargle is unable to battle, the winner is Kangaskhan!" the referee declared, as Fluttershy recalled Smeargle.

"That Counter looked really powerful," Rhonda commented.

"Counter is a move that returns double the damage the user took, so getting hit by Arm Thrust, which attacks more than once, actually helped Busujima," Will replied.

"Alright, Gengar, go!" Fluttershy said, sending out her Gengar.

"Using a Ghost Pokemon won't help you against Kangaskhan," Busujima stated.

"And why is that?" Fluttershy questioned.

"Kangaskhan has the ability, Scrappy, which allows it to hit Ghost Type Pokemon with Normal and Fighting Type Moves," Busujima explained.

"Oh, well, that certainly does make this trickier," Fluttershy commented, 'Of course, an ability like that is only useful if the attacks hit. Gengar is great at evading attacks,' she thought.

"Kangaskhan, use Crush Claw!" Busujima ordered. Kangaskahn's claws became enveloped in energy, as it charged at Gengar, and slashed at the Shadow Pokemon.

"Gengar, quick, use Hypnosis!" Fluttershy instructed. Gengar then fired Hypnosis at point blank range, which put Kangaskhan to sleep, "Now, use Dream Eater!" Gengar then began to absorb a red energy from Kangaskhan.

"What's that?" Silver Spoon asked.

"It's Dream Eater. It's a move that allows the user to absorb energy from a sleeping opponent," Will replied.

"Use Sleep Talk," Busujima ordered. Kangaskhan got up, and then used Shadow Claw, damaging Gengar severely, "Some moves can only be used if a Pokemon is asleep, like Sleep Talk. Now, give them another taste of it!" he taunted. Kangaskhan then used Drain Punch, which added on to the damage from Shadow Claw, and knocked out Gengar.

"Gengar is unable to battle, the winner is Kangaskhan! Three of Flora's Pokemon are now unable to battle, so we'll take a brief intermission for a field change," the referee declared, as both trainers recalled their Pokemon. The battlefield then sunk into the ground.

"This is not looking good for Flora," Silver Spoon commented.

"Busujima only lost one Pokemon, while Flora is down by half of her team. Toucannon has Poison Status, and two of her Pokemon haven't battled yet," Lincoln commented.

"Well, let's hope things will go well for her in the second half," Will commented. Soon, Toby came in.

"Hey guys. How's Flora doing?" he asked.

"Not good. Busujima already took out three of her Pokemon, while he only lost one," Lynn replied.

"That doesn't sound good," Toby commented, as an Ice Battlefield rose up from the ground, and both trainers and the referee took their places again.

"Alright, from here on out, both of you will be trying to knock out the other trainer's remaining Pokemon. Now, choose your next Pokemon!" the referee declared.

"Salazzle, go!" Busujima said, sending out Salazzle.

"Steelix, I need you!" Fluttershy said, sending out Steelix.

"Alright, begin!" the referee declared.

"Steelix, use Earthquake!" Fluttershy instructed. Steelix then slammed the battlefield, sending a massive tremor that knocked out Salazzle.

"Salazzle is unable to battle, the winner is Steelix!" the referee declared, as Busujima recalled Salazzle.

"Salazzle is doubly vulnerable to Ground Type Moves, so Earthquake was a good move," Will commented.

"Alright, Pangoro, go!" Busujima said, sending out a large, panda like Pokemon with a bamboo sprig in it's mouth, "Pangoro, use Hammer Arm!" Pangoro then slammed it's fist into Steelix, sending it into the battlefield.

"Steelix, return!" Fluttershy said, recalling Steelix, "Alright, Toucannon go!" she said, sending out Toucannon, who was still ailing from Poison.

'Hope you're watching, Toby, because this is how a REAL trainer battles,' Busujima thought.

"Toucannon, can you use a Sky Attack?" Fluttershy asked. Toucannon then surrounded itself in a harsh light.

"Pangoro, at the last minute, use Thunder Punch!" Busujima ordered. Toucannon then swooped down at Pangoro, striking the Daunting Pokemon in the gut, but it couldn't pull away in time to avoid Thunder Punch, and both Pokemon fell to defeat.

"Both Pangoro and Toucannon are unable to battle!" the referee declared, as both trainers recalled their Pokemon.

"So far, Busujima has lost three of his Pokemon, while Flora only has two of her Pokemon. Two of Busujima's Pokemon haven't battled, while only one of Flora's hasn't. It'll be tough with just Steelix and her sixth Pokemon," Clyde commented.

"Alright, Kangaskhan, let's go!" Busujima said, sending out the still sleeping Kangaskhan.

"This could be my chance for a comeback. Now, Steelix, go!" Fluttershy said, sending out Steelix, "Steelix, quick, use Iron Head!" Steelix then charged headfirst at Kangaskhan.

"Sleep Talk," Busujima said. Kangaskhan then used Drain Punch, which stopped Steelix, and knocked it out.

"Steelix is unable to battle, the winner is Kangaskhan!" the referee declared, as Fluttershy recalled Steelix.

"Alright, it's all up to you now. Absol, go!" Fluttershy said, sending out Absol, "And, just for a little extra boost, I'll do this!" Fluttershy said, tapping her Key Stone, which reacted to Absol's Absolite, "Now Absol, Mega Evolve!" Fluttershy declared, as Absol began to Mega Evolve. It's horn became like an axe, it's fur grew out, and formed wings, while also covering half of Absol's face.

"Whoa, Mega Absol!" Leni commented.

"Now Absol, use Night Slash!" Fluttershy instructed. Absol quickly dashed, and struck Kangaskhan, who woke up.

"Alright, now Kangaskhan, use Crush Claw!" Busujima ordered. Kangaskhan began slashing away at Absol, who skillfully dodged each strike.

"Absol, put some distance between you and Kangaskhan! Then use Swords Dance, then into Psycho Cut!" Fluttershy instructed. Absol then leapt away from Kangaskhan, and used Swords Dance to power up. It then fired Psycho Cut, which was able to finish off Kangaskhan.

"Kangaskhan is unable to battle, the winner is Absol!" the referee declared, as Busujima recalled Kangaskhan. But he was smiling, like he had a plan.

"I don't like that look on Busujima's face," Lana commented.

"Alright, Salamence, go!" Busujima said, sending out Salamence. As soon as he did, Absol glowed blue, as it seemed to cower at the sight of Salamence, "Salamence's Ability is Intimidate, which reduces the attack power of the opponent whenever Salamence appears. How are you going to deal with Salamence after this?" Busujima said, whipping out, to both Fluttershy's and her friend's shock, a Key Stone, which Busujima then tapped, "Alright Salamence, time to Mega Evolve!" he bellowed, as Salamence began to Mega Evolve. It's wings merged into one crescent shaped wing, and a harness like growth appears around it's legs, which Salamence then tucked it's legs into.

"This may determine the battle," Will commented.

"Absol, use Swords Dance, then use Psycho Cut!" Absol once again used the combo of Swords Dance and Psycho Cut, which did quite a bit of damage to Salamence, but it was still able to fight.

"Salamence, use Brick Break!" Busujima ordered. Salamence swooped in at blinding speeds, and delivered a powerful Brick Break, which sent Absol back, "Now, use Draco Meteor!" Salamence then fired an orange ball into the air, which then burst into smaller projectiles, that seemed to be falling directly at Absol. Salamence glowed blue afterwards.

"Absol, dodge it!" Fluttershy exclaimed. Absol then began to evade the meteors, only for Salamence to suddenly appear before Absol, just before taking off, allowing a meteor to strike Absol. This did a lot of damage to Absol, but it was still standing, "Alright, now, use Night Slash!" Absol's horn then began glowing purple, as it charged at Salamence.

"Finish it off with Giga Impact!" Busujima ordered. Salamence was then surrounded by spiraling energy, as it charged straight into Absol. The two attacks collided, which resulted in a massive explosion. No one knew what the outcome was, and everyone was tense. The smoke finally cleared, and Absol was revealed to have reverted back to normal, unconscious, while Salamence remained floated above it.

"Absol is unable to battle, the winner is Salamence! Therefore, moving on will be Busujima!" the referee declared, as Salamence reverted to normal. Busujima then recalled the Dragon Pokemon, while Fluttershy rushed to her Pokemon's side.

"Absol! Are you alright?" she asked. Absol woke up, and smiled at it's trainer, "You did great out there. Take a long rest," Fluttershy said, recalling Absol, before heading out of the arena.

"Man, that was brutal," Luna commented.

"I didn't expect Busujima to use Mega Evolution," Silver Spoon commented.

"Now he's more of a threat than ever," Lisa commented.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have just been handed an important notice. Due to circumstances he cannot avoid, Gladion has forfeited the tournament, so his opponent, Will, shall be moving on to the semi finals. Therefore, we will be moving on to the fourth and final matchup for the day, Nico vs Leo!" the announcer said.

"Huh, it's not like Gladion to just walk out on something that can make him stronger," Will commented, as the two trainers entered the arena. A grass battlefield then rose up.

"Which means something must've been really important if he had to leave in the middle of the tournament," Lola commented.

"I hope it's nothing bad," Serenity quietly commented, as the referee explained the rules, and both trainers sent out their first Pokemon, with Nico sending in a chandelier like Pokemon, while Leo went with his Lucario again. And with that, the battle for the final spot in the semi finals began.
