My previous statements on this came off as a little rude as I look back on them, and I wish to clarify.
While some people on this site might appreciate it when you comment on their page to thank them for favoriting their story, I do not believe that it is necessary to thank someone for doing that. I do not partake in this action myself, and I hope my page doesn't get cluttered with comments like that.
I know that this makes a difference, just putting this here, as I've had times where people have commented like crazy when I haven't had something like this as a buffer. Yet, when this is up, I get zero comments at all.
The reason behind this is that I see a profile's comment section as a place to start conversations with the author or ask them questions in a public forum or whatnot. It gets a little irritating, in my opinion, to just see "Thanks for favoriting! <3" followed by "No problem!" repeated ad infinitum.
It's just personally frustrating to me, as I get extremely excited to see that someone is commenting on my page, i.e. trying to get my attention for whatever reason, and it just turns out to be someone trying to thank me for enjoying something they did.
Seriously, there's no need to thank me at all. I read so much shit on this site that I will literally not have a comment section if everyone thanked me. I have, as of writing, 434 favorites with 283 unread chapters among them and 251 stories in my "Read Later" listing.
Quite frankly, I'm glad to see that you guys appreciate that I read your story or favorited or whatever, but if you really want to show your appreciation, I believe it's just better to write more, so us readers can enjoy more.
